Friedrich Ochsenhorn: 25 years…. i hope that preserving archival photos is our biggest concern

Pema Pera: for example, our Kira web site is still up, after more than 10 years
Pema Pera: but by far most web sites of ten years ago aren’t
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: at times, i argue that we are embarking on an era I call “the end of forgetting”
Sylectra Darwin: It might be argued that this group grows every day and today’s info is not relevant to tomorrow. We must live in the moment, so to speak.
Pema Pera: Steve, you can’t answer such a question but you can think about it and do what you can to improve the odds :-)

Friedrich Ochsenhorn: well, depends on how much they give us access to. there is the superficial backup, of just the html, and the database backup, if we wanted to run the site elsewhere on the same software
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: mediawiki is a fine peice of software if you want to run one wiki, but its not easy for an isp to run lots of instances off the same codebase. That’s what I meant by “off of”

Nash Fraenkel: i suppose it doesn’t take much to remind oneself that we view the world through a prism of rules called civilization that has little to do with reality.
