The Guardian for this meeting was stevenaia Michinaga. The comments are by stevenaia Michinaga.
Vajra Radikal and I were together for the meeting tonight talking about culture, architecture and spirituality.
stevenaia Michinaga: hello
Vajra Radikal: hi there steve
stevenaia Michinaga: thank for joining me, Sunday nights (for me here) can be rather quiet
Vajra Radikal: same here except that in rl they are not that quiet
Vajra Radikal: trying to get the girls 2 sleep :)
stevenaia Michinaga: you have 2 daughters?
Vajra Radikal: yep 4 and 8
Vajra Radikal: and they can be a handful sometimes
stevenaia Michinaga: my 18 yr old is finally old enough to ignore me
stevenaia Michinaga: ignore
Vajra Radikal: around here they still listen but i know adolescence is not far away
Vajra Radikal: the good thing is that with daughters at least here u never lose them
Vajra Radikal: they stay in the family
stevenaia Michinaga: where is here (I forget)
Vajra Radikal: mexico
stevenaia Michinaga: right, I did write it down, forgot to look
Vajra Radikal: this is still a family oriented society
Vajra Radikal: not much of a ME culture
Vajra Radikal: however it is changing rapidly
Vajra Radikal: you r from the states right?
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, eastern Pennsylvania
Vajra Radikal: its weird when you are from another culture, you probably can't notice it as much but we are reaching some sort of single global culture
Vajra Radikal: mass media and the net generating a single world view
--BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: unfortunately yes
stevenaia Michinaga: similarly with food
stevenaia Michinaga: part of that corporate uniformity
stevenaia Michinaga: a new colonialism of sorts
Vajra Radikal: not really doesn't feel as imposed
Vajra Radikal: i find it dangerous though
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, they are good
Vajra Radikal: sort of the cultural equivalent of losing+
Vajra Radikal: bio diversity
stevenaia Michinaga: you don't even know it
Vajra Radikal: that the worrisome part people buy into it
Vajra Radikal: the prob is the world wont be able to stand it
Vajra Radikal: there are problems in large numbers
stevenaia Michinaga: they count on it, advertising doesn;t sell if you if many don;t believe it
Vajra Radikal: 4 example can u imagine what would happen if china bought into the american dream?
Vajra Radikal: there are probably not enough natural resources to withstand it
stevenaia Michinaga: well there is the "Blade Runner" view of the future, a mixture of everything
Vajra Radikal: yep, big fan of Phillip k Dick myself
Vajra Radikal: is it usually this slow on sundays?
stevenaia Michinaga: this summer it has been, unless you are from down under, then it;s this winter, isn;t it
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Vajra Radikal: how long have u been a guardian
stevenaia Michinaga: it;s strange enough that time is now different everywhere, but season's as well
stevenaia Michinaga: I think over a year now
stevenaia Michinaga: I rely on the my scribe interview to remember even my history here
Vajra Radikal: hehe
stevenaia Michinaga: chronicles, rather
Vajra Radikal: pardon my asking, you are a buddhist? your profile is filled with dharma and buddhism
stevenaia Michinaga: Dharma is actually a friend's name who introduced me to Pema
stevenaia Michinaga: I knew little of Buddhism before second life
stevenaia Michinaga: I am learning more and more abut many beliefs ere
stevenaia Michinaga: especially my own
Vajra Radikal: and are you an architect?
stevenaia Michinaga: yes
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Vajra Radikal: have you translated your new found spirituality into your work
Vajra Radikal: ?
stevenaia Michinaga: I;m not sure I can say that, but what I have found is that certain philosophies seem to be more in alignment with how I view my work and life
stevenaia Michinaga: so I am understanding my self more, in that sense
Vajra Radikal: the thing is that i have always perceived architecture as an art
Vajra Radikal: thus it can help you express a whole cosmo vision
stevenaia Michinaga: a large part of it is
--BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, it can reflect much of the universe
stevenaia Michinaga: and ideally it does
stevenaia Michinaga: it's the nature of the process
Vajra Radikal: like 4 example albert schpeer(sp?) used to love to reflect how small the individual was vs the power of the group
Vajra Radikal: probably was that that made the nazi love him
Vajra Radikal: him
stevenaia Michinaga: interesting choice
Vajra Radikal: i was the obvious
Vajra Radikal: it was architecture as statement
stevenaia Michinaga: as Hitler was an artist in his own mind
Vajra Radikal: religious architecture on the other hand especially in the west had to do with showing the power and mystery of god
Vajra Radikal: yet it was still an architectural statement
Vajra Radikal: one thing i never have seen is a true buddhist architecture
stevenaia Michinaga: what religion in the east or west hasn't, have you seen Adam's exhibit on Sacred Architecture?
Vajra Radikal: nope
Vajra Radikal: a rl exhibit
Vajra Radikal: or a sl one
stevenaia Michinaga: Sl, comparing all religion's architectures in SL and RL
stevenaia Michinaga: let me see if I have the link, it may still be up
I gave Vajra a ,ink to the Hall of Appearances where the exhibit was
Vajra Radikal: i do love architecture it is a human way of conforming reality to our expectations of it
stevenaia Michinaga: if it is up, is should be at that landmark
stevenaia Michinaga: I see Adams just signed off too
Vajra Radikal: ty will check it out later today
Vajra Radikal: i don't believe i have met her yet is he a part of PaB?
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, she was part of those who did the guardian Chronicles
stevenaia Michinaga: http://playasbeing.wik.is/PaB_Chroni...n/D._Stevenaia
Vajra Radikal: ok definitely a must read then :)
stevenaia Michinaga: http://playasbeing.wik.is/PaB_Chronicles
stevenaia Michinaga: on moment Adams just logged on
Vajra Radikal: it would be great if she could join us to deepen the discussion
Vajra Radikal: or to at least tell us if his exhibit is still on
Vajra Radikal: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: it;s late for her and she is not answering my IM
Vajra Radikal: 2bad
Vajra Radikal: in any case i will go have a look l8r
stevenaia Michinaga: no, signed she off, try the landmark
stevenaia Michinaga: brb for a moment
Vajra Radikal: no prob
--BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: my spouse broke her ankle today and is a bit inconvenienced
Vajra Radikal: sorry 2 hear that
stevenaia Michinaga: so is she
Vajra Radikal: do you wish to go with her
Vajra Radikal: i can keep guard here
stevenaia Michinaga: I just tended to her
stevenaia Michinaga: I;m fine
Vajra Radikal: ok then. I will drop you here in order to look 4 the exhibit
Vajra Radikal: c u l8r
Vajra Radikal: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: enjoy
stevenaia Michinaga: see you soon
Vajra Radikal: namaste
