The Guardian for this meeting was SophiaSharon Larnia. The comments are by SophiaSharon Larnia.
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Doug!
doug Sosa: hi.
SophiaSharon Larnia: how is your Saturday :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Wester
Wester Kiranov: hi sophia, doug
doug Sosa: well, not over. project stuff this morning, great books in educating children and getting potnt quotes, these get blown up on the wall for a small workshop on teaching chilren langauages.
SophiaSharon Larnia: lol at your tag Wester 'bookmoocher'
doug Sosa: how about you?
Wester Kiranov: it's a website to mooch books at, actually :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: oh wow, to both :) (is a big bookmoocher, and giver)
doug Sosa: is book mooching still going on afte amazon and google boks?
SophiaSharon Larnia: how does that work, they are on loan?
SophiaSharon Larnia: that's good Doug, a person in sl blasted me because Americans do not teach their children to be bilingual
Wester Kiranov: you list the books you are done with, then somebody asks for them, you send them off and you get points. with those points you can choose books from all available.
Wester Kiranov: you do not have to return them, you do not have to do direct swaps
SophiaSharon Larnia: ah, now I will have to look at that. I spend a bit on books
Wester Kiranov: be careful, it's addictive
SophiaSharon Larnia: rather recklessly, sometimes they're not what I'm looking for
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes I can see how :)
doug Sosa: there was a groip, forget name, that let books around, you picked oneup and i think emaild where, and when it will be done. then you let people know where you left it, something likethat>
doug Sosa: groip-group
Wester Kiranov: i think you mean bookcrossing
doug Sosa: that's it!
SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
Wester Kiranov: some people do both, some moochers hate bookcrossed books, and everything in between
Wester Kiranov: with bookmooch at least your books go to someone who really wants them
SophiaSharon Larnia: laughs at the distinction, i don't know what it would be
SophiaSharon Larnia: ah
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Sophia :)
Wester Kiranov: which is especially nice if you have weird book taste
sophia Placebo: hi :)
SophiaSharon Larnia points to self
doug Sosa: what sophia is your weird book taste?
doug Sosa: (i'll show you mine if..)
sophia Placebo: what do you mean ?
doug Sosa: you have weitd book taste?
doug Sosa: weird
Wester Kiranov: http://www.bookmooch.com/ and http://www.bookcrossing.com in case you want to check them out
SophiaSharon Larnia: well, i used to call myself a seeker, and searched for anything and everything related to spirituality, also very eclectic
doug Sosa: and now?
doug Sosa: (thanks wester)
SophiaSharon Larnia: thanks Wester
SophiaSharon Larnia: we were talking about books, Sophia
SophiaSharon Larnia: doug Sosa: well, not over. project stuff this morning, great books in educating children and getting potnt quotes, these get blown up on the wall for a small workshop on teaching chilren langauages.
SophiaSharon Larnia: I meant to get back to that!
doug Sosa: go ahead..
SophiaSharon Larnia: now, if its not escapists fiction, im not interested so much in reading, I am learning a lot of things online
doug Sosa: powerful quotes..
doug Sosa: escape, as in how?
Wester Kiranov: And these are books I have mooched, both to inform about my taste and the kind of books available http://www.bookmooch.com/m/mooched/wester
SophiaSharon Larnia: have you ever read a book and become immersed in that world
sophia Placebo: book mooch sounds like cool site
doug Sosa: food and ..
sophia Placebo: hello bert
doug Sosa: how do get a book?
SophiaSharon Larnia: ooh like the one on how the mind creates language
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Bertram :)
Bertram Jacobus: hello everybody ! :-)
SophiaSharon Larnia: wow a lot of great stuff in there Wester
doug Sosa: hi.
--BELL--
sophia Placebo: i like deep thoughts and future planning , critic essays , into litrature more than other books , some mild philosophy ,moderate psychology much neorology
SophiaSharon Larnia: The cook books are a bit lost on my, I don't cook, much ;)
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes Sophia...what's moderate psychology, and future planning, as in society?
sophia Placebo: yes i guess in society , im not much into peronal development books
SophiaSharon Larnia is having internet issues, sorry :)
sophia Placebo: doug disappear
Bertram Jacobus: yes. i noticedthat too
SophiaSharon Larnia: the more immersed I've become with mediation, the more my deep thinking type reading has decreased, I really hadn't noticed before :)
Bertram Jacobus: maybe he had connection problems
SophiaSharon Larnia: meditation*
SophiaSharon Larnia: and PaB for that matter, the 9 seconds seem to have relaxed a need to search all the time
sophia Placebo: really ? why you think thats happen ?
SophiaSharon Larnia: i read and had conversations where it was said, you are what you are looking for
SophiaSharon Larnia: it made a furhtur search superfluous
SophiaSharon Larnia: further*
SophiaSharon Larnia: less tense finding being, and more relaxed in just being it :) Or letting
SophiaSharon Larnia: does that make any sense?
sophia Placebo: sort of
sophia Placebo: what about finding the beauty in the beings , or in the self or the beauty of being ?
SophiaSharon Larnia: thats part of it :) Finding beauty in things that previously were not
Wester Kiranov: sorry guys, I'm pretty tiredand I still have to do the washing up :) See you all later.
sophia Placebo: see you later wester
Bertram Jacobus: bye wester
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Wester, thanks for the link :)
Bertram Jacobus: havea good time
Wester Kiranov: namaste
SophiaSharon Larnia: It's easy to love what we call beautiful 'things', but another matter to see beauty in things we have labeled less so, it is being too
SophiaSharon Larnia: maybe this is the appreciation that is spoken of here, Im not sure
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Eos :)
Bertram Jacobus: hey eos :-)
sophia Placebo: reading books can handle some of that , seeing the beauty of how human mind works , how human work for better tommorrow ,things like that
sophia Placebo: Helloe Eos
--BELL--
Eos Amaterasu: Hi Sophia, Sophias, Bertram
SophiaSharon Larnia: We are talking about books, searching, being, and beauty
SophiaSharon Larnia: Yes, Sophia, I see your point, but the angle some writers take point to their own opinions sometimes...... I read whatever I can get my hands on generally :)
sophia Placebo: im not much a reader anymore , though i was
SophiaSharon Larnia: mainly, i fear reading right now and changing the course of where my own thoughts will take me
Bertram Jacobus: hi ara:-)
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Arabella
sophia Placebo: Hi Ara
arabella Ella: Hiya!
Eos Amaterasu: Hi Ara
SophiaSharon Larnia: We are talking about books, searching, being, and beauty Arabella, jumping around
arabella Ella: ah
arabella Ella: i love books
sophia Placebo: but i can remmber the beauty of being totally immeresd in one book
arabella Ella: wish i had more time
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes theres that Arabella!
arabella Ella: yes too many work deadlines
arabella Ella: but i still enjoy reading novels when i find time mainly when travelling
arabella Ella: the last book i read is
arabella Ella: night train to Lisbon
arabella Ella: very interesting and thought provoking
arabella Ella: a novel
SophiaSharon Larnia: oh yes, a book is always necessary, in that case
arabella Ella: yes it helps me to unwind and de-stress
SophiaSharon Larnia: it keeps me from being bored and watching other people lol
arabella Ella: altho i guess on line reading has taken over quite a lot from real books
sophia Placebo nods
arabella Ella: but ... nothing wrong with people watching is there?
sophia Placebo: lol
SophiaSharon Larnia: laughs
Eos Amaterasu: people reading
arabella Ella nods
sophia Placebo: you can read what the others reading sometime
arabella Ella: wondering who they are where they are travelling and why
SophiaSharon Larnia: i dont really care for that when i feel it from others, so i dont do it, obviously, anyway
arabella Ella: as I am from the Mediterranean we have a different attitude to people watching i guess ... different from the States I mean
SophiaSharon Larnia: interesting
arabella Ella: if you go to a beach here for example ... and in italy or spain too ... everyone people watches ... or poses :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: it may just be me :))
arabella Ella: i dont think it is just you
arabella Ella: i think it is cultural more than anything else
arabella Ella: the way we are brought up and where
sophia Placebo nods
arabella Ella: if you take England for example
arabella Ella: it is considered rude to look a person in their eyes
SophiaSharon Larnia: hmm
arabella Ella: everyone always looks to the ground there when travelling for example
arabella Ella: here it is different
arabella Ella: it is not considered rude to look a stranger in the eyes
SophiaSharon Larnia: so its about personal space
arabella Ella: could be
arabella Ella: but in certain contexts like in a court of law one is still expected to look to the ground even here ... as a means of respect perhaps
sophia Placebo: in funerals
arabella Ella: yes
sophia Placebo: in exams :)
sophia Placebo: exam days i mean
SophiaSharon Larnia: it is very sad, to walk down the street in somewhere like philadelphia, or like where i work, no one looks at each other when passing each other, except very little
arabella Ella: yes
sophia Placebo: i dont know but t seems annoying
arabella Ella: could there be an element of fear too SophiaSharon?
arabella Ella: fear of invasiveness?
SophiaSharon Larnia: perhaps, but i havent thought of it that way
SophiaSharon Larnia: I have to leave after the bell, sorries :)
--BELL--
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye all, have a great day/night :))
sophia Placebo: bye !
arabella Ella: bye Sophia Sharon!
Bertram Jacobus: bye sophias :-)
Eos Amaterasu: Also leaving, bye all!
sophia Placebo: bye Eos
arabella Ella: bye Eos
Bertram Jacobus: byeeos
Bertram Jacobus: hello fox :-)
Fox Monacular: hello
sophia Placebo: Hello Fox
arabella Ella: Hiya Fox!
arabella Ella: hows things with you Sophia?
sophia Placebo: good thanks , you?
arabella Ella: very well thanks
arabella Ella: especially since i managed to go to the beach for a swim today as the weather was lovely here
sophia Placebo: mmm nothing like the beach
arabella Ella: yes i enjoy snorkeling and watching the fish too
sophia Placebo: been there 2 days ago , refreshing as nothing could be
arabella Ella: and enjoying the colours of the sea and sky
arabella Ella: yes
arabella Ella: Hiya Yaku
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey everyone
Fox Monacular: Hi Yakuzza
Bertram Jacobus: hey yaku
sophia Placebo: hi yak
sophia Placebo: ^^ see yuo later all
sophia Placebo: you *
arabella Ella: bye Sophia
arabella Ella: quiet here tonite
Bertram Jacobus: cusophia
Bertram Jacobus: yes
arabella Ella: quiet gives us more time to reflect :)
arabella Ella: a pause for peace in our lives
Bertram Jacobus: yes. that´s nice ...
arabella Ella: yes it is
Bertram Jacobus: verygood...
arabella Ella: have you guys been reading anything interesting recently?
Bertram Jacobus: and i have a quiet keyboard now too... :-)
arabella Ella: oh yes?
arabella Ella: how did you manage that?
arabella Ella is curious now ...
Bertram Jacobus: yes . i simly bought one :-)
arabella Ella: fantastic news :)
Bertram Jacobus: it´s made out of durex ! :-)
arabella Ella: careful there ... someone may censor that word :)
Bertram Jacobus: ups ? mydictonairygaveme that word ...
arabella Ella: what is the word in german then ... just curious?
Bertram Jacobus: gummi
--BELL--
arabella Ella: ok ... rubber
Bertram Jacobus: ok - ty :-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: i am experimenting with test to speech software right now since i really dislkie reading and i can even concentrate better to lectures then to a book
Yakuzza Lethecus: but text to speech software really isn´t very great in it´s pronounciation :P
arabella Ella: does it translate chat into speech Yaku?
Yakuzza Lethecus: no, and the chatnames are problematic
arabella Ella: yes
arabella Ella: is it for both English and German?
Yakuzza Lethecus: yeah
arabella Ella: cool
arabella Ella: so what are you using it on?
arabella Ella: wow cool
Yakuzza Lethecus: mostly for introduction texts for example for simulats session
Yakuzza Lethecus: or my real life philosophy class, since i am so lazy in reading
arabella Ella: oh is Sim giving sessions too?
Yakuzza Lethecus: discussions
arabella Ella: the Thothica ones you mean?
arabella Ella: ty very interesting!
Yakuzza Lethecus: i am still experimenting
arabella Ella: yes
arabella Ella: although in many cases it takes a bit of time and patience
Yakuzza Lethecus: for example i often have the habit not to read introducionary texts
Yakuzza Lethecus: and tts software is really on the edge of producing accaptable quality
arabella Ella: yes ... but
arabella Ella: why dont you enjoy reading introductory texts?
Bertram Jacobus: sry - i leave have a nicetime tillnext time
arabella Ella: bye Bert
Yakuzza Lethecus: good night bert
arabella Ella: good luck with ur new keyboard :)
arabella Ella: nite
Bertram Jacobus: bye andty:-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: i often just don´t have the patience
Bertram Jacobus: it´s wonderful ! ;-)
arabella Ella: :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: can you roll it ?
Yakuzza Lethecus: ah already gone
arabella Ella: it is probably one of those you can roll they are interesting and practical
arabella Ella: i have been doing philosophy for years and often have to use introductory texts
Yakuzza Lethecus: i still try to get a perspective on philosophy
Yakuzza Lethecus: or on other humanitys
arabella Ella: yes
Yakuzza Lethecus: but phil connects them all thats why its interesting
arabella Ella: yes
Yakuzza Lethecus: from saussures structuralism to kuhns paradigm paradigm
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey qt :)
arabella Ella: yes
--BELL--
arabella Ella: Hiya Qt
Qt Core: \so, what nice topic i lost in this session ? ;-)
arabella Ella: it was quiet tonite
arabella Ella: did you watch Affari Tuoi Qt?
arabella Ella: I just saw the last part
arabella Ella: he he
Qt Core: no, and i have even doubts i know what it is
arabella Ella: the show where they open boxes ... and stretch it out ...
arabella Ella: with Max as presenter
Qt Core: oh, yes, i avoid it like the plague ;-)
arabella Ella: he he
arabella Ella: i only like to watch the last part when there are only two or three boxes
Qt Core: when it become really slow and boring ?
arabella Ella: but i only watch that bit by chance
arabella Ella: he he
arabella Ella: when you want to know ... curious ... whether they won anything or not
Qt Core: if i'm not wrong there is this saturday evening new version with couples as player
arabella Ella: they had a couple on today
arabella Ella: but i only got the end bit
Qt Core: and it is even the program tied to the national lottery
arabella Ella: and the couple are getting married in 15 days time
arabella Ella: yes it is
arabella Ella: they won Euro.44,000
arabella Ella: and in their box there was Euro.150,000
Yakuzza Lethecus: are you all watching italian tv on malta ? :)
arabella Ella: but they were very practical and did well to play safe
arabella Ella: but it is funny
Qt Core: yes, they do to remember why they are better then us italians ;-)
arabella Ella: this was the italian show i watched
arabella Ella: we have it here too but with much lower prize money
Qt Core: do you watch italians tv on normal antennae or via satellite ?
arabella Ella: via cable
Qt Core: (i'm wondering about the future change to digital tv broadcasting coming here in italy, full change in 2012)
arabella Ella: yes i heard
arabella Ella: do you think it will change much?
Qt Core: several refion are already on digital
arabella Ella: and hey did you hear the news
arabella Ella: the pope and berlusconi met at ciampino today
arabella Ella: berlusconi arrived from USA
arabella Ella: and pope was leaving to somewhere else
Qt Core: yes, like friends just lucky meeting
arabella Ella: so berlusconi got his photo opportunity with the Pope
arabella Ella: how funny
Qt Core: just trying to imagine the pope faking not seeing im and going away ;-)
arabella Ella: well it is unusual for people to meet like that but i guess they both used the VIP lounge
arabella Ella: and i guess it may have been a bit of luck for B and a bit embarrasing for P
arabella Ella: following recent events i mean
Qt Core: i think they are to high even for vip lounges, probably the airplanes wait for them, not viceversa
arabella Ella: he he
arabella Ella: probably
arabella Ella: but they may need the VIP Lounge to meet the press for photos
Qt Core: (just think the mess their combined presence did to the usual airport procedures/security
arabella Ella: i can just imagine
arabella Ella: although
arabella Ella: i am a bit of a skeptic
arabella Ella: like St. Thomas :)
arabella Ella: so what crosses my mind is
arabella Ella: who knows whether it was all planned deliberately to make it look as though it was just a coincidence?
arabella Ella: would be convenient for both that way
--BELL--
Qt Core: plausible
Qt Core: (even if a little sad)
arabella Ella: I would bet on anything Qt that B knew that P would be leaving that time and he probably planned his arrival to make a meeting which P could not get out of easily making it look like a coincidence
arabella Ella: and Yaku ... you have elections tomorrow don't you?
Yakuzza Lethecus: yes we do
Yakuzza Lethecus: i think i know what i will vote for but i am not certain if it´s useful to do that
arabella Ella: well angela does not seem to be worried at all
Yakuzza Lethecus: no she can´t be at least according to my vote
arabella Ella: :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: but i don´t vote for the cdu itself
arabella Ella: yes
arabella Ella: so you think nothing drastic will happen ... just continuation of present more or less?
Yakuzza Lethecus: i just hope that the quickfixes in the financialcrises turn out as real quickfixes without persistence....
Yakuzza Lethecus: won´t
arabella Ella: yes but we must remember it is a global issue
arabella Ella: not just local
arabella Ella: like dominoes
arabella Ella: or a chain all interlinked
Yakuzza Lethecus: is playmobil still on malta ?
arabella Ella: yes they are
arabella Ella: i know the people there
arabella Ella: have been to their place many times
arabella Ella: we used to have around 45 different german factories here
arabella Ella: big names
arabella Ella: all gone ... except for very few
arabella Ella: most gone to tunisia, romania or china
Yakuzza Lethecus: 90% of the global toys are from china
Yakuzza Lethecus: and most of them in a delta there
arabella Ella: yes
arabella Ella: mainly due to cheap labour
arabella Ella: but how long will that cheap labour last for?
Yakuzza Lethecus: they have cheap workers on the coutryside
arabella Ella: yes but things in china will change
Yakuzza Lethecus: if there are 300million industrialized so they have still enough people to bring to an higher level
arabella Ella: and costs of production will go up
arabella Ella: my prediction is that manufacturing will eventually move to africa for cheap labour
Yakuzza Lethecus: at least gdp ppp is already 20% to europe if it would be equally over the people
arabella Ella: yes
Qt Core: i've heard about a medium term idea from china... send 300000000 chinese living in africa in next decades
Yakuzza Lethecus: *counting zero´s* :)
Qt Core: 300 million ;-)
arabella Ella: well at one time they seemed to be going to invade this little island
arabella Ella: it was where they had opened their first western embassy in 70s
arabella Ella: and they helped with some infrastructure and manufacturing projects
Yakuzza Lethecus: hehe the african´s already try to get to malta/italy :)
Qt Core: and implanted surveillance systems for all the mediterranean sea i suppose ;-)
arabella Ella: yes Yaku we will soon be at loggerheads with Italy on that
Qt Core: sadly little malta is much more easy to miss tnan italy ;-)
arabella Ella: as a small island with 400K population how can we sustain 2K immigrants for 18 months detention with no help ... and no one wants to help us even though it is a euorpen problem
arabella Ella: but Qt ... you know it is all organised
arabella Ella: so they often deliberately come here
Qt Core: yes, jk
arabella Ella: as they have a good life here after the 18 months detention
Yakuzza Lethecus: send them over to france, they just let them settle without any help near calais :P
arabella Ella: they just destroyed the camp near calais didnt they?
--BELL--
Yakuzza Lethecus: yeah, sure ur right :)
arabella Ella: and we tried to get other european countries to take some but no one wants to
Yakuzza Lethecus: thats why it just came back to mind
arabella Ella: :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: i need to sleep, i got so tired and i don´t even use the couch otherwise i would have been long asleep already i guess
Yakuzza Lethecus: good night you both :)
arabella Ella: nite Yaku
arabella Ella: i must go too now
Qt Core: sleep well yakuzza
arabella Ella: nite to Qt and Yaku
Qt Core: 'night ara
