The Guardian for this meeting was Gaya Ethaniel. The comments are by Gaya Ethaniel.
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Scath and Hana :)
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Bertram :)
Scathach Rhiadra: Hello gaya, Hana, Bertram:)
Hana Furlough: hello bertram, gaya and scathach
Bertram Jacobus: searching for symmetry ... ;-)
Hana Furlough: lol aren't we all?
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello SophiaSharon :)
Scathach Rhiadra: :)
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Scathach Rhiadra: Hello SophiaSharon
Bertram Jacobus: may be. nice idea. but ... don't some look for asymmetry perhaps, too ?
Hana Furlough: hi sophias
Bertram Jacobus: lol
Bertram Jacobus: and hi sophias ... :-)
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Everyone :)
Bertram Jacobus: hello pila ... :-)
Hana Furlough: hi pila~
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Pila :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: HI Pila :)
Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Pila
Pila Mulligan: greetings :)
Bertram Jacobus: hello eliza ... :-)
Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Eliza
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Eliza :)
Pila Mulligan: hi Eliza
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Eliza :)
Hana Furlough: hello eliza
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bertram, Scah, Gaya, Pila, SophiaSharon, Hana :)
Eliza Madrigal: Everyone is rezzing slowly for me today
Pila Mulligan: yes, laggy and not very smooth for me also, Eliza
SophiaSharon Larnia: me too, most are gray, thought I'd have to relog
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, then it isn't just me
Bertram Jacobus: and here ... since i have a new computer, most things run always great (!) ...
SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
Bertram Jacobus: hello mickorod ... :-)
Pila Mulligan: hi Mick
Eliza Madrigal: Pila, you are entirely gray, and Bertram in a gray suit! :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Mick
Hana Furlough: hi mick
Gaya Ethaniel: I'm lagging a lot here as well ... missing quite a bit on the chat.
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Mickorod
Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Mick
Bertram Jacobus: lol eliza ... ;-)
Mickorod Renard: Hi Guys
Bertram Jacobus: I had very big problems with my old computer here ...
Pila Mulligan: may I ask what kind of graphics card your new one has, Bert?
Bertram Jacobus: also may be there are some viruses on it and so on ...
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes, I came to sl at first on a laptop with a bad graphic card ;p
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Mick :)
Mickorod Renard: ;-)
Pila Mulligan: I'm considering getting a new one
Bertram Jacobus: but the new one now I use only for very few things
Bertram Jacobus: the old one is for all the others ...
SophiaSharon Larnia: it's like a different world Pila haha
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pila Mulligan: :)
Bertram Jacobus: sure - sorry read it only now : its a nvidia 9800 gt
Pila Mulligan: thanks :)
Eliza Madrigal: Your doorway to illumination maybe, Pila
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pila Mulligan: well, some people say the graphics card is the secret of SL working
Bertram Jacobus: yes I guess so
Pila Mulligan: The Secret of the Golden Graphics Card?
Eliza Madrigal: heheh
Bertram Jacobus: and the ram should be not too small they say sometimes ...
Gaya Ethaniel: Will relog ... brb
SophiaSharon Larnia: thanks for the mindful bell Eliza, it works great, it changes everything
Pila Mulligan: hi arabella
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Ara
Mickorod Renard: Hi Ara
Pila Mulligan: welceom back Gaya
Bertram Jacobus: hi arabella ... :-)
SophiaSharon Larnia: H Arabella :)
arabella Ella: Hiya everyone!
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, you're more than welcome SophiaSharon, the link to it is in the PaB pages :))
Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Ara
SophiaSharon Larnia: ah, missed it somehow
Gaya Ethaniel: ty :) I'm always relogging at 1 pm sessions.
Eliza Madrigal: yes, it is a little hidden
Hana Furlough: hi arabella~
Mickorod Renard: I think its virtual memory that's important, not sure though
--BELL--
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello arabella :)
arabella Ella: Hiya Gaya, Hana!
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Bertram Jacobus: today I made my first (!) experiences with the 9 seconds method and I found it a bit exhausting ... ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: Exhausting?
arabella Ella: tell us more Bertram ...
Gaya Ethaniel listens.
Mickorod Renard: I have never managed it yet, I must have that attention disorder
Bertram Jacobus: yes, may be because I tried it while working and most of my work is driving a car ... ;-)
Hana Furlough: what did it feel like?
arabella Ella smiles
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hey Mick, I know a way to help with that... hehhe... only takes 9 seconds
Bertram Jacobus: and also setting my phone every 15 minutes ...
Eliza Madrigal: hahha
arabella Ella: he he
Bertram Jacobus: was not that comfortable ...
arabella Ella: did you set an alarm?
Bertram Jacobus: yes
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, do you mean that you had to take time to reset the phone each time Bertram?
Bertram Jacobus: exactly
Eliza Madrigal: yes that would be exhausting
Eliza Madrigal: tedious
Scathach Rhiadra: it certainly would:)
Bertram Jacobus: that was the exhausting aspect - I guess ;-)
arabella Ella: did you find it difficult to drive while letting your thoughts arise during the 9 secs?
Bertram Jacobus: but I had no idea how I could have it done in a other way ... hm
Hana Furlough: how many miles do you drive in 15 minutes?
arabella Ella: maybe ... each time you stop at a red light?
Gaya Ethaniel: hm ... yes I only know an alarm clock to use on computers, not mobile phones.
Bertram Jacobus: no. nothing seems difficult while the seconds of letting go, but - the letting go did not always work. then I did it some seconds later
Pila Mulligan: it seems to me the benefit is more from the pause itself than from the precise clock schedule of the pause
Eliza Madrigal: yes maybe it is helpful to connect stopping with something that comes up continually. Red lights are a good idea, Ara
Bertram Jacobus: would be nice to have a device which gives a signal every 15 minutes ...
Mickorod Renard: thats a good idea eliza
Bertram Jacobus: hello shyama ... :-)
Pila Mulligan: hi Shyama
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Shyama
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Shyama :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Shy :)
Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Shyama
Mickorod Renard: hi Shy
arabella Ella: hiya Shyama
Hana Furlough: hi shyama
Gaya Ethaniel nods.
Eliza Madrigal: In the car, I generally try to just notice breathing as I'm driving.... almost like being continual rather than every 15 minutes?
SophiaSharon Larnia: me too Eliza
Hana Furlough: yeah I try to just let go every time I remember to do so
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi sophia :)
Pila Mulligan: hi Sophia
Mickorod Renard: funnily enough I have been noticing the opposite
sophia Placebo: Hi sophia
Bertram Jacobus: hi sophia ... :-)
sophia Placebo: hi pila all
Mickorod Renard: Hi Sophia
sophia Placebo: hi bert
Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Sophia
Mickorod Renard: I have been going work on motorbike
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Sophia :) Wow, nearly a full circle today
Mickorod Renard: and noticed how I stop breathing for long periods
Hana Furlough: hi sophia!
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello sophia :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: wow Mick
arabella Ella: hiya sophia
Shyama Sheryffe: hi sophia
Pila Mulligan: are you driving under water Mick?
Mickorod Renard: I think it's when I am subconsciously terrified
Gaya Ethaniel: You mean breathing shallow or not breathing at all Mick?
Mickorod Renard: like just on the edge
Mickorod Renard: so it must be the opposite to what we are trying to do
Pila Mulligan: you need to hold your breath underwater, otherwise it is usually not too helpful
Shyama Sheryffe: why under water ?
Mickorod Renard: I never tried the 9 sec thing underwater yet..will try it in the bath next
SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Eliza Madrigal: hehe
Bertram Jacobus: and my work is very bustling also ... one more aspect why there the 15 minutes practice is not so easy ...
Pila Mulligan: well, breathing under water is definitely unhealthy (without scuba, at least)
arabella Ella: I use a snorkel Pila so with the pipe I can breathe underwater too :)
Pila Mulligan: :) ah, yes, exceptions are the rule :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: me too Bertrum, my work place is not a place where I can think about this at all
--BELL--
Bertram Jacobus: may be, the practise is not possible everywhere ?
Shyama Sheryffe: well I meant is tehre difference holding ur breath underwater or above water..lol
Eliza Madrigal: The idea is to weave the pauses throughout the day. Paying attention to the 15 minutes when you can is a good start, then maybe you begin to look for other ways to incorporate when it seems difficult?
sophia Placebo smiles re shayama
Pila Mulligan: usually, I see Shyama, Mick was referring to stopping regular breathing, by the time you notice what Mick noticed, that your berating is shallow, or just on the edge, it is after the fact -- you've already stopped regular breathing, for whatever reason
Pila Mulligan: then you need to resume regular breathing -- so the idea is to notice you have stopped
Mickorod Renard: I too found when I was driving to work in car was a good time to Apa
Gaya Ethaniel nods. Noticing itself is a positive fact.
Mickorod Renard: like you Bertrum
Bertram Jacobus: yes eliza ... much text today here ... :-)
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bertram Jacobus: but sorry : bertrum seems to be another guy ? ... ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: Speaking for myself, when I see how much smoother things go I begin to look for time kind of instinctively?
Mickorod Renard: I found doing the appreciation thing took the stress outta the trip
Hana Furlough: yes it does become instinctive
sophia Placebo: work place brings with it a lot of habits that seem as part and necessity of the quality of the work ,re bert
Bertram Jacobus: yes ...
Eliza Madrigal: Not at first though. At first it felt like something 'else' to keep track of, I admit :)
Bertram Jacobus: have to cancel the silly yes gesture ;o)
Eliza Madrigal: heheh
Gaya Ethaniel: I'd be interested to hear about your appreciation practices during the trips Mick if you're willing.
arabella Ella: :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes me too Mick
Mickorod Renard: sometimes I go to work with the great expectation of doing a 9 second thing, and then I realise the day is over and I have not had ! second
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ... I know what you mean. That happens.
Mickorod Renard: well, I have been using my bike for a while now, but I did get stressed at the congestion and now I totally chill and just let light flood in and enjoy the observations
SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Hana Furlough: wow so nice~
arabella Ella: :)
Mickorod Renard: it's amazing how much you miss when consumed with other thoughts
arabella Ella: and the smells and sounds etc ...
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Mickorod Renard: yes, I have to open windows
Mickorod Renard: otherwise it gets very smelly in the car
Bertram Jacobus: it's really astonishing, how distracted one (me) can be ...
SophiaSharon Larnia: brb
Mickorod Renard: tell us more Bertrum
Bertram Jacobus: from these first experiences today i was nearly shocked how often I was in very strange ... fields of thinkin away, not here and now ... and that although I learned my first meditations in 1973 ... the 15 minute practise is really special ...
Mickorod Renard: why do you think that Bertram, just so I can try and do it myself?
SophiaSharon Larnia: I think I know what you mean Bertram
Bertram Jacobus: sorry - I did not get that : try and do what by my or yourself please ?
arabella Ella: would be nice to hear how and why you found the 15 min practice special bert?
Mickorod Renard: no, I want to do it, and was wondering what you found so special
sophia Placebo: 1973....
Mickorod Renard: a good year for some
Bertram Jacobus: I think, the idea to write some notices in relation to the practise experiences can give more precision. I'll try to do that the next days ...
Mickorod Renard: thanks bertram
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Visitor :)
arabella Ella: do you mean to write about your experience Bert?
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Visitor
Bertram Jacobus: ah. the special thing for me is that this practise fills in some kind all the time (!) ...
arabella Ella: hiya Visitor
Shyama Sheryffe: hi Visitor
Mickorod Renard: where will you post them Bert?
Gaya Ethaniel: Please feel free to join us Visitor.
Bertram Jacobus: hello Visitor ... :-)
--BELL--
Hana Furlough: hello Visitor~
Mickorod Renard: Hi Visitor
Mickorod Renard: oops
Gaya Ethaniel: Bye Visitor :)
Eliza Madrigal: Sometimes the pause is just noticing that you were 'away', and didn't know it. I imagine that the cumulative effect of doing that all day long can be very powerful.
Gaya Ethaniel: Indeed :)
Bertram Jacobus: and other meditations I experienced more punctual unless the idea that they also naturally shall enrich the whole live more and more ...
Bertram Jacobus: and post mickorod ... I don't know ... I thought to tell a bit about that here in the meetings ? ...
Mickorod Renard: wow, yes please
Hana Furlough: I need to get going
Hana Furlough: have a wonderful day everyone!
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Hana :)
Gaya Ethaniel: Bye Hana :)
sophia Placebo: bye hana
Eliza Madrigal: Nice to see you Hana. Bye for now
Bertram Jacobus: as soon I have some notices . I promise :-)
arabella Ella: bye Hana
Eliza Madrigal: Either way Bertram. You know there are guardian contribution pages also on the wiki.
Mickorod Renard: does anyone use an alarm or some watch type thing to remind onself?
Shyama Sheryffe: we should have our pc on all day telling every 15 min to stop..lol
Mickorod Renard: bye Hana
Pila Mulligan: bye Hana
arabella Ella: great idea Shyama
Shyama Sheryffe: bye Hana
Pila Mulligan: this 9 second exercise seems not so much a meditation as a method of noticing things -- staying in touch with yourself
Mickorod Renard: I dart about from room to room
Eliza Madrigal: I used the computer bell for quite a while, and sometimes go back to it.
Bertram Jacobus: yes eliza. but in some web aspects I'm a bit silly and learn only slow. may be because it's mostly English too. another barrier for me ...
Gaya Ethaniel: The frequency eventually got to me so to speak. It is very helpful in that sense.
SophiaSharon Larnia: the 9 sec does pass so quickly, I've only been able to see a stone drop from my hand and fall to the bottom of a stream bed, I see the water move and the light reflection and the 9 sec is over. :)
Bertram Jacobus: but noticing and staying or getting in touch seems to me to be the center of all meditations too in the end ... (?)
Mickorod Renard: very nice
Eliza Madrigal: Oh SophiaSharon, what a nice image :)
Gaya Ethaniel: That's beautiful SophiaSharon :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: well, it is the same one
SophiaSharon Larnia: in slow mo :))
SophiaSharon Larnia: but when I do it all day, I do get a panic like reaction, still
Eliza Madrigal: Hm
Gaya Ethaniel: Why panic?
sophia Placebo: panic?
Bertram Jacobus: but yes. really nice picture ... I agree ... ty ! ... :-)
Mickorod Renard: mmm odd?
SophiaSharon Larnia: shrugs
SophiaSharon Larnia: the 15 minutes come so fast
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ...
Bertram Jacobus: really fast !
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes
SophiaSharon Larnia: a reminder of time
Mickorod Renard: I see
Bertram Jacobus: and so often ! ;-)
SophiaSharon Larnia: I stretch out of it and try different images but go back to the one :)
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Bertram Jacobus: you always see this one imagination ?
Mickorod Renard: sounds like I must try harder
SophiaSharon Larnia: no, but it what i go back to over and over
SophiaSharon Larnia: can almost smell the water
Bertram Jacobus: oh I see
Eliza Madrigal: Some things we work with a long time before we realize why :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: variants of dropping
Mickorod Renard: that's an angle
Pila Mulligan: so something(s) about the experience and its remembered image impressed you, then SophiaSharon
SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles
Pila Mulligan: maybe you can contemplate what those things are that impressed you and why
Bertram Jacobus: but ... isn't to see a picture again and again also a kind of being stucked to something ?
SophiaSharon Larnia: I thought so
Bertram Jacobus: and now you don't think that anymore ?
SophiaSharon Larnia: like Pila said maybe it is a doorway
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bertram Jacobus: nice sight ! ... :-)
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Restless, welcome :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Restless
Mickorod Renard: Hi Restless
SophiaSharon Larnia: I think he is out of chat range still
Gaya Ethaniel: Have you been to one of PlayasBeing sessions before Restless?
Shyama Sheryffe: hi restless
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi restless
Bertram Jacobus: yes. wehello restless ... :-)
Restless Roizman: erm nope I don't believe I have
Restless Roizman: hello
Bertram Jacobus: - we lol sry
Restless Roizman: I was flying by and came down to take a look
Mickorod Renard: Sophia, do you think the reoccurring nature means you still need to drop something,,or do you see the dropping and then move into another mode?
SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, welcome :)
Gaya Ethaniel: We meet here 4 times a day to discuss meditation, nature of reality among many other topics. Our discussions are recorded on our wiki http://playasbeing.wik.is/
--BELL--
Gaya Ethaniel: Are you ok with your name and comments recorded Restless?
Restless Roizman: I am fine with it
Gaya Ethaniel: Thank you :)
sophia Placebo: night all
Eliza Madrigal: Night Sophia :)
Mickorod Renard: nite Sophia
Shyama Sheryffe: nite sophia
Scathach Rhiadra: good night Sophia
Restless Roizman: night
Gaya Ethaniel: Currently we are observing 90 seconds break/silence but please feel free to ask questions Restless.
Pila Mulligan: bye Sophia
Gaya Ethaniel: Good night sophia :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye sophia :)
Eliza Madrigal: If we think about the nature of a recurring dream. It floats up until you pay attention.
SophiaSharon Larnia: I definately need to drop a lot of things, fear being one of them. When i move into another mode, as you say (like regular meditation) I tend to trance out and don't think of anything useful, I don't think.
Scathach Rhiadra: good night all, Namaste!
Gaya Ethaniel: Good night Scath :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Scathach
Eliza Madrigal: Night Scath. Namaste' :)
Restless Roizman: good night
Bertram Jacobus: puh. sometimes it's exhausting to observe such a 90 second break lol ;o)
Pila Mulligan: bye Scathach
Mickorod Renard: nite scatyh
Mickorod Renard: that sounds complicated Sophia S
Gaya Ethaniel: What do you mean by 'trance out' SophiaSharon?
Gaya Ethaniel: Would be helpful if you could describe that a bit.
Mickorod Renard: how long are your regular sessions?
SophiaSharon Larnia: well, i used to meditate years ago and had the same problem, just think of nothing, like on the edge of sleep
Bertram Jacobus: (changing the symmetry again a bit) ... ;-)
SophiaSharon Larnia: half awake/asleep
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ... ok
Mickorod Renard: not lucid dreaming?
Shyama Sheryffe: nods to sophia
SophiaSharon Larnia: not lucid, no
SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles, that freaks me out
Gaya Ethaniel: Sounds like you are easily spooked like me SophiaSharon :)
Bertram Jacobus: I did not try that because I feared that sophias ... :-9
Shyama Sheryffe: I feel peace in that state
Eliza Madrigal smiles.
SophiaSharon Larnia: it is peaceful, for me like blanking out like a bulb, but am working on intention
Bertram Jacobus: in which way or direction do you work on that may i ask sophias ?
Shyama Sheryffe: yes how ?
arabella Ella: working on intention? what do you mean?
Eliza Madrigal: brb
Restless Roizman: good day to you ladies and gentlemen thank you for allowing me to participate
SophiaSharon Larnia: well, I recognised the value in the 9 sec. from the beginning, it is hard to keep that up all of the time
Gaya Ethaniel: I must get to bed :) Nice to see you all again.
Bertram Jacobus: same to you restless
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Gaya
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye restless
Restless Roizman: bye
Pila Mulligan: bye
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Gaya, Restless
arabella Ella: bye Gaya
Bertram Jacobus: and have a nice sleep gaya
Shyama Sheryffe: nye
Gaya Ethaniel: Bye Restless :)
Shyama Sheryffe: bye..lol
Eliza Madrigal: Funny about the 9 seconds. I don't observe it all the time, but feel like I do, because it is part of my rhythm now. Someone else might observe it more but worry makes it seem less.
Mickorod Renard: bye Gaya
Mickorod Renard: I need the rhythm
Eliza Madrigal: If we think "Oh no, didn't do it" and are kind of ungentle with ourselves
Eliza Madrigal: then it is a burden
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes Eliza :)
Shyama Sheryffe: how often u do the 9 sec ? every 15 min ?
SophiaSharon Larnia: I can't do it when I work, my work place is a bit of a zoo
Eliza Madrigal: yes, that's the idea Shyama
Mickorod Renard: work with kids then?
SophiaSharon Larnia: me?
SophiaSharon Larnia: no I work in an inner city hospital
Mickorod Renard: a joke
SophiaSharon Larnia: lol
Eliza Madrigal: Sophia, some days are like that and then we do the best we can :)
Mickorod Renard: grin
Mickorod Renard: ok folks, I am going home
Pila Mulligan: bye Mick
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes, but I work I feel like I need to be super beta brain state, even gamma, like front line a center, even if I am tired, and not allowed to have a bad day
arabella Ella: bye Mick
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Mick :)
Shyama Sheryffe: isn't the goal that u should do it all the time ?
Mickorod Renard: thank you for the chat
Shyama Sheryffe: bye Mick
Bertram Jacobus: bye mickorod ... :-)
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Mick :))
Eliza Madrigal nods. It does sound like you do need to be Sophia!
SophiaSharon Larnia: I'm sick of it actually :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: finally
Pila Mulligan: stress
Eliza Madrigal: Maybe the same issue of it being easy to escape in meditation is part of that too.
SophiaSharon Larnia: it is not my natural personality
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes I think so Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: When you are able to stop and 'center' and be 'more' present and more attentive that way... will be a breakthrough. :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes I go lay down in the grass in backyard sometimes ;p
Pila Mulligan: consciousness is an essential idea in practices like yoga, meditation, tai chi, etc. -- each has its own specific methods yet they all involve regular breathing :)
Eliza Madrigal: Ohhh nice :)
Pila Mulligan: the 9 second pause also helps you notice your breathing, however often you do it -- the peaceful sense and the breathing are related -- stress can affect your breathing and your peaceful sense
Bertram Jacobus: shayama - may be it's like it was said before here already once today : that the goal may be to become aware or something like that, in which way ever ? ...
SophiaSharon Larnia: at work I do not have a body
Eliza Madrigal nods... wow yes
SophiaSharon Larnia: so you can see the problem
Pila Mulligan: maybe the stone dropping to the water is part of your finding your body
SophiaSharon Larnia: grins
arabella Ella nods
SophiaSharon Larnia: hmm never thought of that
Eliza Madrigal smiles, yes.
Eliza Madrigal: I need to go for a few minutes. If you all go before I get back, have a lovely day/evening, etc. :)
--BELL--
Pila Mulligan: bye ELiza
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Eliza
arabella Ella: i must go now too
arabella Ella: bye everyone
Pila Mulligan: bye arabella
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Arabella
Shyama Sheryffe: bye
Bertram Jacobus: "okay" - I'll leave too. ty very much for the talk ! ...
Shyama Sheryffe: getting late, I must go to bed
Pila Mulligan: bye Bertram
Shyama Sheryffe: bye all
Pila Mulligan: bye Shyama
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Bertram :) Bye Shyama
Bertram Jacobus: bye all - have a great time
SophiaSharon Larnia: Pila you are still gray :)
Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: joke: that was several years ago, now my hair is mostly white :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles
Pila Mulligan: my graphics card is doing goofing things with SL
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes
Pila Mulligan: all kinds of geometric shapes drifting around
SophiaSharon Larnia: I have noticed more gray in my hair and I honestly have to say, I don't mind
SophiaSharon Larnia: oh really??
Pila Mulligan: I worked at a legal aid office for several years, sophiaSharon, I remember the feeling of being caught up in constant crisis
Pila Mulligan: that was when my hair turned gray :0
Pila Mulligan: it is not so bad :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes, and I suspect it is not your personality too
Pila Mulligan: I like the laid back life -- but I also liked helping people
SophiaSharon Larnia: I become different people
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes me too
Pila Mulligan: just too much stress
SophiaSharon Larnia: its like putting on a different avi
SophiaSharon Larnia: all the time
Pila Mulligan: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: and I have to say, I am at my wits end
Pila Mulligan: I felt that way sometimes too
Pila Mulligan: almost hit the director one day when he was being sarcastic about it -- that is *really* not my personality
SophiaSharon Larnia: I think being here, and doing the 9 sec may have helped me see it
Pila Mulligan: but it will work itself out
SophiaSharon Larnia: oh my
Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: I was trying to tell him that the stress level was unhealthy for the staff and that things could be done to help reduce the stress and improve the help provided clients
Pila Mulligan: he got sarcastic about my purpose
SophiaSharon Larnia: all the philosophical discussion in the world, and meditative practice doesn't mean anything if your life is fractured
Pila Mulligan: well, they actually do help
SophiaSharon Larnia: oh, he was not hearing you at all
Pila Mulligan: no, he was avoiding the subject too
Pila Mulligan: last week I read an article about the Dalai Lama (in the New York Times) quoting his comments on happiness ...
Pila Mulligan: ... given the premise that the world is full of suffering, it seems the paradox is to be happy in a world full of suffering
SophiaSharon Larnia: paradox, yes
Pila Mulligan: it really is ironic that it is even possible :)
Pila Mulligan: but it is possible
Pila Mulligan: you just need to find the place where you are happy and stay there as best you can, however best suits you
Pila Mulligan: brb -- phone
SophiaSharon Larnia: ok
Pila Mulligan: this is a complex phone call, SophiaSharon -- I'd better go
SophiaSharon Larnia: ok take care :))
Pila Mulligan: bye for now :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: nice to see you
Pila Mulligan: same here -- aloha
