Fael was the guardian for this morning. She sent me the following log with her comments.
I was waiting at the new meeting house. Pema was the first to arrive. Soon followed by Pia. Looks like SL was having slight problems again.
Fael Illyar: Hi Pema :)
Fael Illyar: Hi Pia :)
Pia Iger: Hi, Fael,
Pema Pera: Hi Fael and Pia!
Pema Pera: Had some trouble coming here — got diverted to a nearby welcome area
Pema Pera: where I did not feel very welcome
Pema Pera: amidst a few dozen avatars packed on top of each other
Pema Pera: like sardines in a can
Pia Iger: me too.
Pia Iger: they are all grey.
Pema Pera: yes
Fael Illyar: SL having problems again … how come I’m not surprised :)
We spend some time wondering about systems that’d actually work.
Pema Pera: haha yes
Pema Pera: well, some day they’ll get serious competition
Pema Pera: and they’ll have to shape up
Pema Pera: may not be that far in the future
Pia Iger: I hope so. It should be like that.
Fael Illyar: I’d like to think they’re working at it even though it works badly now :)
Pia Iger: to encourage improvement.
Fael Illyar: They’re themselves opening the server too so … if nothing else, that will get some sort of competition
Pema Pera: Oh, I’m sure they’re working on it, but at the same time they are adding features . . . . not clear whether the net effect is making things better or worse.
Fael Illyar: haha, yes :)
Pema Pera: yes, indeed, Fael
Pia Iger: Fred mention the other day, Sun is doing something new of virtual world.
Pema Pera: As I mentioned recently, I’m talking with various people involved in these things, and it’s fascinating to get a flavor of the complexities
Pema Pera: yes, Pia, Wonderland
Pema Pera: online massively multi-player 3D virtual worlds are among the most complex pieces of software, I’m sure
Moon arrives.
Fael Illyar: Especially those that are built by users :)
Fael Illyar: Hi Moon :)
Pema Pera: or by companies in a hurry . . . .
Pema Pera: HI Moon!
Moon Fargis: hi pema, hi everyone
Pema Pera: I once heard Philip Rosedale use a wonderful image to describe how they were improving SL
Pia Iger: Hi, Moon,
Pema Pera: “like switching engines on a Boeing 747 in mid flight”
Pema has a wonderful quote that gives a nice idea of the difficulty of keeping SL running and stable. The only thing the quote is missing is that this particular Boeing 747 would be gaining weight all the time.
Faenik: なるほど^^
Fael Illyar: Yes, I get the feeling it’s a bit like that :)
Pia Iger: very proper image:
Pia Iger: Moon, is our bell here?
Pema Pera: btw, I put up a lot of new blog entries, and even one with 12 photos!
Pema Pera: http://playasbeing.wordpress.com/200...ges-and-moves/
Pema Pera: you see, Pia, after you handed me one photo
Moon Fargis: pia: yes
Pema Pera: I learned and learned . . .
Pema Pera: and finally I got fluent :)
Pema Pera: thanks for letting me know that two of your photos were missing
Fael Illyar: and now you’re taking snapshots left and right :)
Pia Iger: 12 is a dozen:)
Pema Pera: that’s corrected now
Pema Pera: yes
Pia Iger: a lot.
Pema Pera: like the number of cushions here in the circle
Pema Pera: I just thought it would be nice to give the reader a sense of the new place
Pema Pera: it was the evening we had our first (second half) lengthy sit here
Pema Pera: the evening before Moon’s neon sign
Pema Pera: Don’t have many pictures of that
Pema Pera: Moon, did you take pics?
Moon Fargis: hehe
Moon Fargis: no
Pema Pera: or were you too busy making trouble?
Pema Pera: thought so :)
Pema Pera: well, I have some
Moon Fargis: im always busy making trubble
Pema Pera: will put them up later today
Pema Pera: hehe
Moon Fargis: btw got the 1pm log from yesterdays talk ?
Moon Fargis: its is quiet.. funny :-)
Pia Iger: BTW, we don’t have roof in the center?
We move to talking about difficulties dealing with time in SL. Especially with regards to RL.
Pema Pera: yesterday is which date?
Pia Iger: haha
Moon Fargis: hum
Pema Pera is always puzzled with the date line
Pema Pera: 1 pm June 20 you mean?
Moon Fargis: 3 meetings before this one
Pia Iger: funny reference
Pema Pera: yes
Pema Pera: what session in the reign of the new pavillion ?
Moon Fargis: eh our next meeting is at 1 PM then substract 24 hours
Pema Pera: I think I got it: Solo send June 20, 4 pm
Pema Pera: he must have meant that
Pema Pera: so yes, I guess
Pema Pera: ah, time is trouble in SL !!!!
Pema Pera: space drops away
Pema Pera: and time is a humongous pain
Moon Fargis: absolutley
Fael Illyar: timezones :)
Faenik: なるほど^^
Pema Pera: we should all switch to GMT, Universal Time
Moon Fargis: hehe
Pema Pera: like the Chinese, they all have Beijing time
Fael Illyar: I could talk in GMT if I wanted to but when things relate to SL, it’s better to use SL time :)
Pema Pera: Well, if the Chinese concur the world, all our time problems will be solve!
Moon Fargis: well..
Pia Iger: :)
Pema Pera: Yes, Fael, but my neighbors in RL won’t understand SLT . . ..
Moon Fargis: meh
Moon Fargis: :)
Pema Pera: meh?
Fael Illyar: Ah, yes, that they won’t :)
Moon Fargis: yes meh! :)
Pema Pera: so we need a regulation mechanism in RL first
Pema Pera: meh!
Moon Fargis: you will understand this when you read the log :)
Pema Pera: Chinese are more likely to regulate than the Indians
Pema Pera: which “the log” ?:)
Pema Pera: how many sessions ago?
Moon Fargis: 1pm log 3 sessions
Moon Fargis: brb need a relogin
Moon leaves for a moment…
Pema Pera attempted a sneak preview, only to realize the log is in @#$%&* microsoft word Fael Illyar: …
… and returns.
Faenik: indeed?
Pema Pera heroically jumping through hopes in conversion until reaching emacs and unix
Pia Iger: sorry to say, nobody think cusion is too big?
Fael Illyar: something wrong with big cushions?
Moon Fargis: hehe emacs is cool
Pia Iger: I feel AV swallowed by cusion.
Moon Fargis: used memacs here on my amiga sometimes
Pia Iger: and visually they dominated the view of the room.
Pema Pera: Yes, they are quite big, Pia
Pema Pera: good for takling a nap perhaps :-)
Pema Pera: *taking
Pia Iger: just being frank, I’d like them to be a bit smaller and less puffy.
Pema Pera: We need a cat posture
Pema Pera: curling up
Pema Pera: well, Dakini will read this blog
Moon Fargis: hehe
Pema Pera: so saying it may result in them shrinking
Pema Pera: you never know
Pema Pera: wait a couple days till the blog is up :-)
Pia Iger: color is righ what I imagined though, orange:)
Fael Illyar: Well we do have edit rights to these by the way :)
Pema Pera: okay, Fael, do you want to shrink wrap Pia’s cushion?
why not
Fael Illyar: oh… apparently can’t resize
Pema Pera: Moon discovers relativity theory
Pema Pera: either make cushion smaller
Pema Pera: or self bigger
Pia Iger: true:)
Moon Fargis: one second please brb
Moon leaves for a moment again.
Faenik: ah :)
Pema Pera: no fun — wanted to take a picture — and he went poof
Pema Pera: life of a blogger . . . ah!
Wikis are brought up once again.
Pia Iger: I look forward to new wiki setup.
Pema Pera: yes, it should be fun with all of us able to contribute
Pema Pera: so much energy here — then it doesn’t have to be all funneled through me :-)
Fael Illyar: :)
Pia Iger: overwhelming for one person.
Pia Iger: I can say I read most blog entries
Pia Iger: so many gems inside
Pia Iger: I like to have a list of links mentioned.
Pia Iger: like mindfulness bell, zen stories, etc
Faenik loves wells!
Fael Illyar: I do tend to read them all, although might be becoming a once a week thing :)
Pema Pera: wow!
Pema Pera: once a week 28 entries?
Pia Iger: I can’t do that, a lot of reading.
Fael Illyar: Well, I tend to spread it all over the day, maybe two :P
Pema Pera: ah, I see
Pema Pera: like walking in a drizzle :)
Pema Pera: unfortunately, I have to go
Pema Pera: before Moon returns
Pema Pera: This time is my turn to be a type of “guardian” in our astronomy organization
Pia Iger: double duties.
Pema Pera: we call them “barristas” for our coffee time there
Pema Pera: yeah.
Pia Iger: bye, Barrista
Fael Illyar: Ok, see you Barrista :)
Pema Pera: haha
Pema is leaving, Moon returns.
Pema Pera: you’re all welcoem to drop by any time at the astro meetings if you like
Pema Pera: every morning, 7:30 to 8:00 am SLT
Moon Fargis: ah here i am again
Fael Illyar: wb Moon :)

Moon Fargis: oh already want to go?
Moon Fargis purrzzzzzzzzz
Pia Iger: cushion is right size for you now, Moon
Fael Illyar: :)
Moon Fargis: yes
Moon Fargis purrzzzzzzzzz
Red Japanese Poof: Script trying to stop animations but PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION permission not set
Fael Illyar: there, made it smaller :)

Moon Fargis: bye bye everyone

Pia Iger: Fael, I have little experience outside PaB group.
Faenik: なるほど^^
Fael Illyar: yes?
Pia Iger: most ppl here has been freindly
Pia Iger: not knowing ppl outside
Pia Iger: can be very various
Fael Illyar: you can find all kinds of people in SL
Faenik: なるほど^^
Pia Iger: ppl come here often are special, somehow
Fael Illyar: Yes, I’ve noticed.
Pia Iger: do you have new finds from meditation?
Pia Iger: maybe it is late now.
Fael Illyar: At least, none that I can remember.
Pia Iger: ok. I am coming for 1pm.
Pia Iger: maybe see you then.
Pia Iger: bye for now.
Fael Illyar: Ok, see you Pia :)
This meeting concluded here.
