I entered to find Threedee and Adelene.

Threedee Shepherd: yes, here too, in Colorado. Fall is the nicest time of year, IMHO

genesis Zhangsun: it is hard to "not do" more than "doing"

Threedee Shepherd: yes, Zen masters will say that's why it takes all that time sitting and practicing.....

Threedee Shepherd: OK, another revision: "Take a deep breath. Let the process evolve a bit longer. Trust the process."
genesis Zhangsun: for me its not difficult to sit for 1 hour even 2
genesis Zhangsun: but if people are all around me demanding things of me or anyway it appears that way I start to lose this "cool"
genesis Zhangsun: taking the benefits of the sitting into the rest of the day is challenging
Threedee Shepherd: gen, for me sitting quietly wa measures in 10s of seconds. Since starting the 9-sec it has increases to a few minutes.

Threedee Shepherd: perhaps *mentally* as much if not more than physically.
Adelene Dawner: Interesting contrast - it sounds like your drive to 'go do something' is internal - mine's almost always more external, a worry that I'm *expected* to go do stuff, and that 'just sitting' will get me into trouble.

genesis Zhangsun: perhaps though the restless voice in the head of someone like Threedee is the voice of the expectation of others
genesis Zhangsun: ?
genesis Zhangsun: could be interpreted as your own but hard to separate your own voice sometimes from the voice of others
genesis Zhangsun: by "voice" I don't mean hearing voices

Threedee Shepherd: yes, I wondered that. AND, I get pleasure from knowing/learning. So, perhaps some of both?
genesis Zhangsun: to clarify then when you are sitting you feel you should be more actively knowing/learning?
Threedee Shepherd: no shoulds. It's more like my *mind* (used colloquially) keeps seeking
Adelene Dawner: For me, when I'm sitting... thoughts arise, of course, that seems unavoidable. But I don't encourage them, and I often quite literally don't remember later what I was thinking about.
Adelene Dawner: (And the stuff I *do* remember, from those sessions, is usually really deep and useful.)

genesis Zhangsun: the notes "the parts" you remember stand out
genesis Zhangsun: beautiful between the moments of deep silence

genesis Zhangsun: there is just so much "noise" often in daily life or in sitting
genesis Zhangsun: that drowns out the silence that makes the music
genesis Zhangsun: until you relax and don't do and then noise turns into a complex symphony
Adelene Dawner chuckles. "What's the difference? Music's just noise by another name."

Threedee Shepherd: I think for primates/humans a purring equivalent is "relaxed posture" which actually communicates physically when monkeys groom
