The guardian for this session was Storm Nordwind. The comments are Storm's.

Wol was alone in the pavilion when I arrived... to find out something interesting about myself!

Wol Euler smiles. I guessed it was you Storm.
Wol's translator: / me sonríe. Supuse que era la tormenta.
    Storm Nordwind smiles
    Storm Nordwind: From what?
Wol Euler: well, I don't know who else flies in rather tha TPing :)
Storm Nordwind: It's part of the fun
Storm Nordwind: Perhaps related to why I have a pilot's licence
    Wol Euler: heheheh
    Wol Euler: could well be.
    Wol Euler: mick!
    Wol Euler: you are Ruthed!
Storm Nordwind: Whoa - I didn't think that happened any more

Ruthed means that your avatar looks like Ruth, the old default avatar seen when still loading. But I'd though this has been replaced in all circumstances by a fuzzy white particle cloud. See here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Ruth

Mickorod Renard: something said that i was downloaded wierd

Play as Being 15 minute bell: Thank you.

Wol Euler: haven't seen that in quite a while
    Mickorod Renard: still,,never mind
Wol Euler: stand up, go into the appearance editor, switch to male, quit
Wol Euler: or leave it, yes. See if anyone notices
Storm Nordwind: there are whole sims near here devoted to that stuff
    Wol Euler grins
    Mickorod Renard: he he
Storm Nordwind: What are you doing to the pool?
Mickorod Renard: tryin to click on myself
Wol Euler: to edit yourself? Use the menu command, it'S easier

Today is supposed to be another in the wonderful series of dialogues between Fefonz and Pema about Being Seeing, except (unusually) neither of them are here yet. And in fact no one else is. Odd. Then I get a message from Pema that he is still in the Kira Cafe surrounded by 8 Dutch speakers for the Dutch evening. This is such a turn of fortunes that I encourage him to stay, explaining that Fefonz is still missing.

Storm Nordwind: Pema says he will be here soon
    Wol Euler smiles.
Storm Nordwind: He is entertaining 9 Dutch speakers - a record!
    Wol Euler: wow
Wol Euler: the poor German evenings struggle, he was alone last time as I was still at work
Storm Nordwind: Dutch evening suddenly has critical mass
Storm Nordwind: Yes. And French died. But Japanese goes from strength to strength
Storm Nordwind: But they have talks EVERY week! :)
    Storm Nordwind: and presentations
Wol Euler nods. That may be a significat point of difference, the German evenings are talky salons (so far)
Wol Euler: no theme, no ... special content
Wol Euler: we've been talking about how to revise taht, to get more attention
Storm Nordwind: Yes. But this time people just turned up for Dutch - and Pema was late, stuck in traffic!
    Wol Euler: :)

I got an email from Fefonz who could not get into Second Life. Perhaps this was a widespread problem. I passed this message onto Pema in the Cafe too.

Storm Nordwind: Fefonz has emailed me saying problems getting inworld
Wol Euler nods, I couldn't get on for a while either
Storm Nordwind: Net problem I think, not necessarily SL
Storm Nordwind: I couldn't access localendar either
Storm Nordwind: That's what provides our events board
    Wol Euler: ooh.
Wol Euler: perhaps cornfickr has come alive?
    Storm Nordwind shrugs
Storm Nordwind: I can see the events board now. It's come back
Storm Nordwind: http://www.localendar.com/public/The...itute?style=D2 is the feed I use for the Cafe
Storm Nordwind: Take out the "style" for the Kira website version
Wol Euler: works OK for me ...
Storm Nordwind: Was down before. OK for me now
Storm Nordwind: perhaps connectivity problems somewhere that included LL too
    Wol Euler nods

The previous evening, or rather morning for us here in Europe, it had been the climax of the Play as Being 1 year anniversary celebrations. Wol had mentioned about possibly joining them but the event had, sadly, been Wol-less.

Storm Nordwind: So your alarm clock did not go off last night then? :)
    Wol Euler sighs.
Wol Euler: it did, but I was just too tired. I bitterly regret it now, but at the time I was just knackered
    Wol Euler: were there fireworks?

Play as Being 15 minute bell: Conversations here are recorded when ON AIR. Please see http://playasbeing.wik.is/
Play as Being 15 minute bell: Please observe 90 seconds of silence.

Play as Being 15 minute bell: Thank you.

Storm Nordwind: Fireworks, absinthe, onigokko, dancing in the mist, lots of special effect, party drinks and hats and acrobatics... just like normal really
    Wol Euler: awwww :(
Wol Euler: I knew I should have had that afternoon nap :(
Storm Nordwind: I knew I couldn't go to bed.
Storm Nordwind: I just stayed up till 4am
Wol Euler: heheheh, that might have been a solution!
Wol Euler: I should have done that, yes
Storm Nordwind: Somehow the energy kept me awake
Storm Nordwind: Or was it the caffeine
Wol Euler: could you sleep after, with coffee in you?
    Storm Nordwind: Woke at 11am
    Wol Euler: wow
Storm Nordwind: Special times. Won't be doing that too often!
    Wol Euler nods.
Storm Nordwind: Looks like Pema is keeping all the PaBers to himself, talking Dutch!
    Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: do you have a translator?

I didn't. Meanwhile I had been in private chat with Pema in the Cafe.

Storm Nordwind: No one else can access it seems
Wol Euler: we could go there ... if we can TP
Storm Nordwind: I think Pema could do with some English ;)
Storm Nordwind: I suggested he bring them over here
Storm Nordwind: Wester and Quen are there
    Wol Euler: ah!
    Wol Euler: wb mick
    Storm Nordwind: Mick welcome back
    Mickorod Renard: Hi guys
Storm Nordwind: And in the form we know and love!
    Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: your bearded Ruth was quite endearing though.
    Mickorod Renard: ;)
Storm Nordwind: Your Ruthing was general connectivity problems. Fefonz can't get in
Mickorod Renard: yea,,i had a job re loggin

I had suggested that Pema bring the Dutch speaking crowd from the Kira Cafe over to the Play as Being pavilion. Presently we were joined by the unruly lively group! (Storm Nordwind refuses to use the word "momentarily", which is used incorrectly instead of "presently" by many Americans, including the safety video on Continental Airline flights.) Don't ask me to translate what follows!

    Mickorod Renard: Hiya Pema
    Pema Pera: Hi there!
    Mickorod Renard: ty storm
    Wol Euler: hello pema
Pema Pera: I've sent tp's to the Dutch contingent
    Storm Nordwind: Welcome Pema
    Wol Euler: and hello ara
    Mickorod Renard: Hiya Ara
    arabella Ella: Hiya
Pema Pera: Hi Emmi and Elma and Quen -- you can speak either Dutch or English here :)

Elma Serrao: ga eens door he
Wol Euler: hello emmi, elma, welcome to PaB
arabella Ella: Hiya Pema hope i do not sit on anyone again today ... smile
quen Oh: mmm little bit wet
Pema Pera: I couldnt' tp Alain Preminger
    Mickorod Renard: hi Quen

    Pema Pera: ah!
    quen Oh: just done it
    Pema Pera: hehehe
    Mickorod Renard: Hi wendy
Pema Pera: So Wol and Storm thought they had a quiet meeting . . . .
Wol Euler: so far, we did!
Wol's translator: tot nu toe, we hebben!
    Pema Pera: hahaha
     hahaha
     Pema's translator: hahaha
quen Oh: hehe that is gone now Wol en Storm
    Werner Hird: haah
Wol Euler: oh dear, there's a feedback loop betzween our translators!
Wol's translator: Oh nee, er is een terugkoppelcircuit betzween onze vertalers!
Pema Pera: from two to eleven!
Werner Hird: zitten allemaal hetzefde pfffffffffff
    Storm Nordwind: Inundated

Indeed our numbers had grown substantially.

Wol Euler: hello alain, werner, wendy
Pema's translator: I am getting tired translating into Dutch
    Werner Hird: hello
    quen Oh: lol
    Emmi Writer: dat betekent hallo
    Mickorod Renard: Hi Werna
    Pema Pera: hahaha
quen Oh: especially since Pema can do that perfectly himself!
Pema Pera: ja we zijn nu in de meerderheid, he
    Wol Euler: indeed!
    Emmi Writer: precies
    Alain Preminger: Hi allemaal
Pema's translator: wir koennen auch Deutsch plappern, gel
Storm Nordwind 's eyes go glazed
Wol Euler: mir würde es helfen! Storm und Mick weniger so
    Emmi Writer: richtig schon doch
    arabella Ella: jawol
    Wol Euler: sorry guys!
    arabella Ella: ich verstehe alles
Pema's translator for Wol: that would be great for me, less so for Storm and Mick

I realised there was one other person present who also was as lost as I was.

Storm Nordwind: Never mind the Brits, we'll just drink quietly in a corner
    Emmi Writer: as always
Wol Euler: never lost for a solution!
quen Oh: warum nicht, aber dass is nicht ganz einfach fuer Storm und Gilles

Play as Being 15 minute bell: Conversations here are recorded when ON AIR. Please see http://playasbeing.wik.is/
Play as Being 15 minute bell: Please observe 90 seconds of silence.

Gilles Kuhn: Por el sangre del Rey y porque nada nunca en castellano ?
Emmi Writer: kijk uit tegen wie je 't hebt quen
quen Oh: would chatting and typing be a disturbance of silence?
    quen Oh: hehe
Pema Pera: (yeah, this is a new habit)
Pema Pera: (90 seconds instead of 9 sec, while here in SL)
quen Oh: si Gilles, I would like another rioja
    quen Oh grins
    arabella Ella: manjana gilles
Gilles Kuhn: en seguida quen ya lo tienes !

Play as Being 15 minute bell: Thank you.

Pema explains the new bell strategy.

    Pema Pera: Sorry, to explain:
Emmi Writer: what is the bell for?
Pema Pera: Play as Being uses a 9 sec break in RL every 15 minutes
Pema Pera: a kind of 1 % time tax
Pema Pera: but here during these sessions
Pema Pera: we pause for 90 seconds these days, every 15 minutes
    Storm Nordwind: Rioja for madam
Pema Pera: starting and ending with a bell
Pema Pera: and during that time the pond gets misty
quen Oh: the bell asks for 90 seconds Pema
    Wendy Chaplin: hello wol
    Pema Pera: yes
    quen Oh: ah ok
Wol Euler raises her glass. thanks storm!

Storm explains the new bottle strategy.

Werner Hird: why is there a bottle wine next to me? :)
Beck's Beer Mug : Ice Cold Draught mmmmm!
    Storm Nordwind: quen wanted Rioja
    Wol Euler: good karma?
Gilles Kuhn: storm she had i assure you....
Storm Nordwind laughs at Wol's nice comment!
quen Oh: ah thank you Storm, even though it is french, I appreciate it ;-)
quen Oh: and I appreciate the rioja too
Pema Pera: it's a warm day in NYC, so I prefer beer now
quen Oh: it was warm here too! finally first day out without a coat
quen Oh: spend time on the balcony even
quen Oh: well not very much
    Emmi Writer: but windy
Wol Euler nods. here too! 19° this afternoon.
    quen Oh: nice!
    Emmi Writer: stormy really
Alain Preminger: Then you should drink a "Duvel"
quen Oh: not here Emmi ;-)
Emmi Writer: well, holland is a big country
Gilles Kuhn: i have do ne that ths afternoon alain
    quen Oh: veeeerrrrryyy big!
    quen Oh: huge in fact
    Pema Pera loves Duvel
quen Oh: if you hvae to walk from one side to another
    arabella Ella: what is Duvel?
quen Oh: it is a belgian beer ara
    Emmi Writer: it's huge
Alain Preminger: You have a good taste!
    arabella Ella: oh ok
    Storm Nordwind: Duvel mmmmmmm
Gilles Kuhn: a strong blonde low fermentation belgian beer
arabella Ella: sounds good to me
Pema Pera: I love most trapist beers
    Storm Nordwind: Chimay blue.... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Wendy Chaplin: yes we have more than 350 different beers in belgium
    arabella Ella: cool
glass of red wine whispers: Ah! Red Wine!
Werner Hird: like wine more then beer
    Werner Hird: :)
quen Oh: I can appreciate both, but preferably not at once
Wendy Chaplin: yes me too i prefere wine
    Wol Euler: :)
Gilles Kuhn: Louis the XIV destroyed all belgian vines.....
Pema Pera: In Japan we drink beer and sake, intermixed . . . .
Storm Nordwind: I prefer making beer to wine
Gilles Kuhn: (sorry spanish mode not off ;-) )
quen Oh: what is that like Pema??
quen Oh: never much liked Sake
Alain Preminger: Gilles, from what I can see from your profile we have similar tastes
Pema Pera: oh, goes well together!
Gilles Kuhn: lol alain nice !
Pema Pera: Did Gilles list all his favorite wines in his profile ?!?!?
Mickorod Renard accepted your inventory offer.
    quen Oh: you didn't Pema???
    Pema Pera: :)
quen Oh: or perhaps list all the nice old traditional Dutch treats you like?
quen Oh: no one will recognise in US
    Pema Pera: trick or treats?
    quen Oh: hehe

I was wondering whether we were going to have to abandon our dialogue this week... when Fefonz showed up!

Storm Nordwind suspects that our Being Seeing theme session is a figment of imagination this week
Pema Pera: oh, Being is seeing,no doubt . . .
Gilles Kuhn: not enough place in profile for all my favorite wines !
quen Oh: and seeing is being?
    quen Oh: fleeing..
    Pema Pera: :)
    Pema Pera: hey, Fefonz!
    quen Oh: hi Fefonz
Wol Euler: ((btw message from the SL status blog: Inventory Database has died and is being rotated. Don't buy anything or rez no-copy items for the time being))
    Pema Pera: (not yet)
    Pema Pera: (on his way)
    Pema Pera: reincarnated?
    Wol Euler: hello fefonz
    quen Oh: there he is
Pema Pera: Will we be rotated when we die?
    Fefonz Quan: Hello all :)
Alain Preminger: No he didn't but I assume he will not refuse a Nuits St.George or say a Gevrey Chambertin.
    arabella Ella: Hiya Fef
    Pema Pera: hi Fef!
Wol Euler: they do talk about people "turning in their graves"...
quen Oh: cremated or buried, but why rotated PEma?
    quen Oh: lol Wol
Pema Pera: hahaha, lol Wol, that's a good one!!
Storm Nordwind recalls it is many years since he had a good Nuits St.George
    Mickorod Renard: hiya Fef
Gilles Kuhn: nice Bourgogne et saint André ! A notre bon Duc !
Pema Pera: today's session has all the traits of an after-birthday birthday party!
    Wol Euler: heheheh
Fefonz Quan: according to the glasses i see the parties are on !

I still wondered whether we'd have time for the programmed event! It seemed not.

Storm Nordwind: So we have barely a quarter hour left of our allocated slot for our Theme Discussion. (There is a workshop at the hour.)
Pema Pera: Not all of you may know that yesterday we had our first birthday of Play as Being
Wol Euler: perhaps the theme today is Party?
Pema Pera: Fef, wanna kick off?
    Pema Pera: Being?
Storm Nordwind: Sounds good to me
Alain Preminger: We're going to have a lot of Whining.
Fefonz Quan: (who should i kick?)
Storm Nordwind: (Alain, by the sound of it)
Gilles Kuhn: hell if party is not part of being i will then really seek nirvana very quickly !
Emmi Writer: Should being be a party?
Fefonz Quan: its a seek nirvana you are talking about Gilles ;_)
    Pema Pera: well, we'll start with a 90 seconds silence . . . . .
quen Oh is a party being

Play as Being 15 minute bell: Conversations here are recorded when ON AIR. Please see http://playasbeing.wik.is/
Play as Being 15 minute bell: Please observe 90 seconds of silence.

Play as Being 15 minute bell: Thank you.

Gilles Kuhn: post jucundam juventuttem !
Gilles Kuhn: juvenes dum sumus !
    Pema Pera: et tu Gilles
    Fefonz Quan: damn good Humus...
Gilles Kuhn: post molestam senectutem nos habebit humus !
Alain Preminger: What ik it would have been the hour of the wolf instead of 90"
arabella Ella: careful Gilles we will ask you to sing with voice soon :)
Gilles Kuhn: i can do that but you really dont widh it i sing awfully wrong !
    arabella Ella smiles
arabella Ella: me too ... so I wont join you in a duet

    arabella Ella: translation someone pls?
Pema Pera: we should instate a Latin Evening in the Kira Cafe!
Gilles Kuhn: rejoice dus as we are young....
Wol Euler: sorry, my simbolic doesn't do latin :( A surprising omission
Alain Preminger: Seems wine lead us to a bottleneck.
Gilles Kuhn: after the joy of youth after the pain of old age the earth will have us all
    Wol Euler: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaudeamus_igitur
Wendy Chaplin: very nice words Giles
    Wendy Chaplin: gilles
Fefonz Quan: the inventor of the gitur?
Alain Preminger: or the more complete Carmina Burana?
Wendy Chaplin: i like the music from Carmina Burana
Gilles Kuhn: hildegarde von bingen didnt use the gaudeamus his orgin are in bologna and in paris XI czentury
Pema Pera is wondering whether to bring his beer to Stim's session . . . .
Fefonz Quan: it might steam things up
Storm Nordwind: Stim can get his own in the Cafe if he's thirsty
Mickorod Renard: yes,,this guiness is too good to leave
Gilles Kuhn: contemplation without beer is scorned upon even by st benedictus rules.....
    Mickorod Renard: he he he
Wendy Chaplin: sorry i must leave you now bye and good night
    Mickorod Renard: bye Wendy
    Storm Nordwind waves to Wendy

Storm Nordwind: Bye for now guys
Wol Euler: take care, bye for now
Fefonz Quan: See you all , namaste
    Storm Nordwind: Namaste

We went to the Kira Cafe.

P.S. If you've got this far and wondered at the title "1688 and all that", it's a reference to (a) the parody of English history "1066 and all that" (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1066_and_All_That), (b) the last dialogue, which was called "2009.03.26 13:00 - Dialogue Fefonz-Pema #4: Being, and all that", and (c) an allusion to a certain Dutch invasion.
