The Guardian for this meeting was Eliza Madrigal. The comments are by Eliza. :)
A fun and interesting session which spilled over from the "Magic of Time" session at 6AM SLT...
Eden Haiku: "Avec le temps va tout s'en va..."
SophiaSharon Larnia: hi everyone hahah
Darren Islar: is it only hot in Holland, or is that everywhere ?
Pema Pera: I have to think about the hot stove, seeing Darren in the water :-)
Eliza Madrigal: time often seems like the characters in the 'hidden picture' puzzles....
Darren Islar: pssshhhhhhhhhhh
Pema Pera: :-)
Eden Haiku: Heat wave here too ;)
SophiaSharon Larnia: yup here, too, and the rain made it worse :)
Eliza Madrigal: having a heat wave... a tropical heat wave.... ::singing::::
Eliza Madrigal: We're usually having a heat wave so what do I know :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
Darren Islar: I only complain about weather when there is a heat wave
Darren Islar: I don't mind rain
Darren Islar: but heat and humidity!!!!
Bleu Oleander: used to heat here .... no big deal
Eden Haiku: Always in the heat hehe Eliza :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes... so I only guage the breezes...
Bleu Oleander: but it's a "dry heat"
SophiaSharon Larnia: still hot tho
SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
Darren Islar: it is very humid here, without any wind
Eden Haiku: In French same word for time and temperature...:)
Maxine Walden: hot here too, record yesterday
Lucinda Lavender: dry like an oven
Eliza Madrigal: Oh Eden?
Darren Islar: temp
Pema Pera: nice, Eden!
Maxine Walden: :)
Eden Haiku: Le temps and le temps....
Eliza Madrigal: ah, of course... nice
Darren Islar: ah.... with an s
Lucinda Lavender: has anyone had an interesting dream with the heat I am musing...
Maxine Walden: interesting...
Pema Pera: So the song "le temps de vivre" by George Moustaki can be read in two ways, Eden?
Darren Islar: wa moving tonight and needed to do a lot of cleaning
Eliza Madrigal: the temperature of life...?
Maxine Walden: hahah
Darren Islar: heheh
Eden Haiku: No, usually the context give away the meaning...Singing "Avec le temps va tout s'en va" by Leo Ferre
Pema Pera: :-)
Pema Pera imagining saying in English: "I had the temperature of my life"
Eden Haiku: Temperature of life... giggles...
Maxine Walden: :))
Eliza Madrigal: maybe we take time's temp every day... we wake and think "How far will this go today"
Darren Islar: :)
Eden Haiku: ;)
Darren Islar: time's temp, I like that
Eden Haiku: Time's temp...hehe
Maxine Walden: musing about the state of mind which uses same word for time and temperature...intriguing to think of the linkage
SophiaSharon Larnia: cold or hot time
Eden Haiku: Yes, Maxine, I'm asking myself the same question...
Darren Islar: well, I'm afraid the one on the other side of the screen is still hot :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: slow and fast
Darren Islar: and I need to go now
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Darren :)
Darren Islar: have a good time everyone
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Darren, be cool :)
Darren Islar: :)
Lucinda Lavender: by Darren:)
Pema Pera: bye Darren!
Maxine Walden: perhaps intuiting different aspects of the 'medium' of time, including temperature
Eden Haiku: Talking about it with my boyfriend who is familiar with French in France, and it seems it is Quebecers only who assimilate both.
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, yes.... when you say that... and still lingering with 'engagement' a bit, I think of dipping into a pool or bath tub... of time.... (funny phrases but playing)
Maxine Walden: hmm
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, @ Maxine not Eden. Hahahha
SophiaSharon Larnia: excitability of time, whatever its made of
Pema Pera: because Quebec is so cold in winter?
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pema Pera: hibernation is stopping of time?
Maxine Walden: :)?
SophiaSharon Larnia: as Bruce pointed out, time stops at the speed of light, opposite of hibernation
Lucinda Lavender: slowing of energy used?
SophiaSharon Larnia: ?
Bleu Oleander: "stopping of time" .....
Eden Haiku: Wondering...it is certainly one of our favorite subjects:" le temps". Snowstorms, icestorms, hail, and heat waves and so on :))
Eliza Madrigal: When I felt panic about time, I felt the only response was to take a nap to 'reset'
Maxine Walden: actually that is interesting, Pema. I believe the North Coast Indians felt that different times pertained to summer and winter months, winter a time when they withdrew into stories and myth making, summer when they were out in the world, fishing etc
SophiaSharon Larnia: nods at Eliza
Pema Pera: and yes, Sharon, for moving light time does not move
Pema Pera: like the English "tempest" @ Eden
Pema Pera: and "temper" connected to both time and emotional temperature?
Maxine Walden: nice, Pema!
Eden Haiku: Ah yes, temper, tempest, temperature...
--BELL--
Lucinda Lavender: time and energy...
SophiaSharon Larnia: I have to go, thank you all!
Pema Pera: bye Sharon!
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Sharon :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye for now :))
Bleu Oleander: bye Sharon
Eden Haiku: Bye SSL
Lucinda Lavender: Bye Sharon:)
Maxine Walden: I should go, nice discussion. Bye for now
Pema Pera: bye Maxine!
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Maxine, Thanks :)
Lucinda Lavender: bye Maxine:)
Maxine Walden: bye all
Eden Haiku: Bye Maxine :) Have a nice day.
Bleu Oleander: bye Maxine
Bleu Oleander: need to go too .... looking forward to our next session Pema :)
Bleu Oleander: bye all .... have a great day!
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Bleu :))
Eden Haiku: Stretching in front of the computer,,, Bye Bleu.
Eliza Madrigal: You too
Lucinda Lavender: thanks Bleu, you too
Eliza Madrigal: One interesting I notice in these conversations, is that the very slowing/pausing to notice, makes time available. Of course ewan started talking about mindfulness and I guess its the same... perception...
Pema Pera: bye Bleu!
Eliza Madrigal: but sometimes we say 'perception' in a mental arena...
Pema Pera: yes, time is very nonlinear . . . .
Pema Pera: we tend to overlook that when we get trained too much to become clock animals
Eden Haiku: Nonlinerait
Eliza Madrigal: or maybe just I do that... think of 'mindfulness' as a mental doing
Eliza Madrigal: clock animals! what a phrase!
Lucinda Lavender: can you say more?pema
Pema Pera: well, we think in terms of neatly divided bits of time
Eden Haiku: Non-linearity is a very important aspect of Great Time. Fundamental notion. We tend to forget that...
Pema Pera: as hours, each with 60 minutes, each with 60 seconds, all in a nicely linear way
Pema Pera: but we can experience time in very non-linear ways
Pema Pera: as I think Bruce and others mentioned
Lucinda Lavender: as a flowing thing?
Pema Pera: flowing, or shimmering, or jumping or floating
Pema Pera: or peacefully residing
Pema Pera: or just being present
Lucinda Lavender: yes...
Pema Pera: or simply beyond any words
Eliza Madrigal: yes I love that feeling Eden conveys in floating... sensing now as sort of, hm... all times possibly...
Eden Haiku: When my mother was dying and I was opening a window so she could breath fresh air, I was reminded how she told me some many "time" how she would let me sleep outside all warpped up in blankets in my stroller when I was a baby. Times of my early days and her lasts were connecting very strongly. In my mind I suppose but it felt circular.
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, Eden.
Pema Pera: how beautiful, Eden!
Yakuzza Lethecus: :(
Eliza Madrigal pauses...
Eden Haiku: I wasthen the mother and she the child.
Lucinda Lavender: beautiful...
Pema Pera: yes, role reversal
Pema Pera: and perhaps this can inspire us to reverse roles with time too . . . .
Eliza Madrigal: more fluid than our labels suggest
Eden Haiku: Isn't time that gives of our sense of self too ?
Eliza Madrigal: :) yes...
Pema Pera: for me the greatest discovery, time wise, was the possibility to switch roles -- instead of me trying to work with time, subtly trying to control time, I started to play with letting time speak to me, giving time free reign . . . .
Pema Pera: become the child of time . . . instead of the parent or boss
Eden Haiku: How would you do that Pema?
Pema Pera: starting by listening
Lucinda Lavender: :)
Pema Pera: as in the 9 sec for example
Pema Pera: but I see an idea coming up for the next time chapter :-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: :)
Eden Haiku: Ah, like an opening to time...
Pema Pera: answering your question as best I can Eden
Pema Pera: yes
Eden Haiku: Yes, it would be helpful if you could find a way to give us an handle in doing that. It seems a key.
Eliza Madrigal: this approach seems to give a real invitation for allowing Being to play....
Pema Pera: yes & yes!
Eden Haiku: Rememebering from a previous log Pema. An image you had when about 8 years old.
Eliza Madrigal: funny that I'm realizing that I've had an approach of trying to 'distract' myself in order to allow Being to play... when hm... engagement/attention is more the point perhaps...
--BELL--
Eden Haiku: One hand towars the ground, the other hand over your head. Soemthing like that.
Lucinda Lavender: connecting the ground and the sky..
Eliza Madrigal listens
Eden Haiku: Spelling 11h25 or 4h55 on a clock. At least that is the image I had when I read that. The firts card of the Tarot came to mind: the Magician, connecting earth and sky.
Lucinda Lavender: was thinking the same
Eden Haiku: Do you remember what you said Pema?
Pema Pera: yes, helping to let go, both actively and passively, in order to get beyond the duality of active/passive
Lucinda Lavender: energy coming in and going out
Pema Pera: about my dream, Eden, at 8 years old?
Eden Haiku: Ah, a dream, yes. Care to share it again?
Pema Pera: hmmm, about trying to reach a point with a line, which I didn't succeed in doing -- that one?
Eden Haiku: Yes, and you described the lines you were trying to draw..
Pema Pera: that was a very unusual dream: all other dreams I remember from that time are concrete situation; that was the only was that was totally abstract, mathematical
Pema Pera: I saw a kind of graph space, with a point in the upper left
Pema Pera: and a point in the lower right
Pema Pera: and I had to draw a line from the lower right point to the upper left
Pema Pera: at first everything went fine
Pema Pera: but the closer I came to the upper left point the harder it got
Pema Pera: the line started to wiggle and whatever I tried I couldn't get closer
Pema Pera: it felt symbolic, like a koan
Pema Pera: at the same time a kind of calling and also a kind of struggling with an angel, in biblical terms
Pema Pera: if I were to try to find a meaning now, fifty years later
Eden Haiku: I find this image very powerful.
Eliza Madrigal nods
Pema Pera: I would say: I was trying to find a solution in terms of the context in which the problem was given
Lucinda Lavender: same for me
Pema Pera: while the answer is to drop the context
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pema Pera: and the problem disappears
Pema Pera: so there are three ways of dealing with a knot
Pema Pera: 1) slowly unravel
Pema Pera: 2) cut through the knot
Pema Pera: 3) see there never has been a knot
Eden Haiku: It brings to mind the Magician Trump Card
Eliza Madrigal: #3 seems the way to do 1,2
Pema Pera: yes, 3) is the path of appearance
Pema Pera: in which 1) and 2) are free to appear too
Eden Haiku: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magician_(Tarot_card)
Pema Pera: 1) and 2) are two ways of dealing with (mistaken notions of) existence
Pema Pera: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mag...8Tarot_card%29
Eden Haiku: Ah thanks, that's the one.
Eliza Madrigal: yes... which sounds so simple except that when I write 3 is 'the way to' I'm already off.... Simple is tricky...
Pema Pera: peutetre je suis le bateleur, Eden :-)
Eden Haiku: I have a feeling its is still this problem you are trying to solve in PaB and in the Time Sessions...
Lucinda Lavender: or play with and listen to...
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pema Pera: yes, we can never solve anything . . . . but we can appreciate that fact
Eden Haiku: Tarot Cards crypts very powerful knowledge from past civilizations way way back in Time. :)))
Eden Haiku: I thought you were the Fool Pema :)))
Eliza Madrigal has always been fascinated by tarot but has never had a reading... maybe some day :)
Pema Pera: oh, I like to have it both ways, typically, Eden :-)
Pema Pera: a fool playing as magician and the other way around
Eden Haiku: Ah ah!
Eden Haiku: Typical yes :))
Eden Haiku: If I can find a turban in my inventory I can give you a reading Eliza :)) With a turban I can even read tea leaves :))
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Pema Pera: :)
Pema Pera: Eden the dancing derwish . . .
Lucinda Lavender: I keep wanting to understand where fundementalism comes in...for some future discussion perhaps...
--BELL--
Eden Haiku: Would need a sufi script...
Pema Pera: hehehe
Pema Pera: beats onigokko . . . .
Lucinda Lavender: yes
Eliza Madrigal: Lucinda, you wrote a line earlier about energy....
Lucinda Lavender: thanks Eden:)
Eliza Madrigal: It made me think of:
Eliza Madrigal: As Rinzai said:
``In this five-foot lump of red flesh there is a true
person of no rank always coming in and going out;
if you have not seen it yet, see it now!''
. . . It is always coming and going in and out of our body.
When it goes out, if we see a flower, we become a flower;
when we hear a beautiful bird's song, we become a singing bird.
When we go within, we are hungry, sleepy, hot, and cold.
There is a true master like that within each of us.
We see a river and we are flowing without pause.
We see the sky full of stars and we become it all.
We dive into the suffering of all people, into society's miseries.
Within this is a true person of no rank.
Shodo Harada (1940 -- )
Eden passes around a great dancing script...
Eliza Madrigal giggles at Pema... speaking of energy
Pema Pera: :-)
Pema Pera: As Harada said: "we are flowing without pause" hehehe
Yakuzza Lethecus: harada ?
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eliza Madrigal: Oh,, there is music...
Eliza Madrigal: didn't hear it before
Pema Pera: yes!
Pema Pera: (comes and goes for me)
Lucinda Lavender: hard to get going here..
Eliza Madrigal: "there were birds... in the sky.... but I never heard them singing..."
Pema Pera: did you click on the gesture, Lucinda?
Eden Haiku: Beautiful poem Eliza :)
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, beautiful beatles :)
Lucinda Lavender: love the poem
Eliza Madrigal: Oh... but the other...
Eliza Madrigal: something pema's often shared
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, the dance music is 20s, 30s....
Eden Haiku: Yes, Amélie Poulain soundtrack...
Eliza Madrigal finds it difficult to type and dance ( hehehe )
Eliza Madrigal: Oooh!
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pema Pera: in my dream!
Lucinda Lavender: I had best got going to organize myself in the rL world.
Lucinda Lavender: dance on!
Pema Pera: bye Lucinda!
Eliza Madrigal smiles @ Lucinda
Eden Haiku: Bye Lucinda, have a nice day!
Eliza Madrigal: this must resemble your classes :)
Pema Pera: nothing is real . . .
Lucinda Lavender: some days for sure...
Eliza Madrigal: haha, Bye for now
Pema Pera: but it all works out . . . .
Eden Haiku: I love strwberry field. The scene with that song in the movie "Across the Unverse" is wonderful...
Pema Pera: (hard to explain all this in the chat log comments)
Eliza Madrigal: Oooh yes Eden!
Eliza Madrigal: (yes and I won't even try-hehe)
Eliza Madrigal: you know I know when its a dream :)
Pema Pera: yes, but it's all wrong :-)
Pema Pera: I'm going soon . . . .
Yakuzza Lethecus: sleep well pema
Eliza Madrigal: what dreams may come after this session....
Pema Pera wonders . . . .
Eden Haiku: Me too :) We can sit down...
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pema Pera: can we?
Pema Pera: :-)
Pema Pera: well, goodnight/day everybody
Eliza Madrigal: Night Pema
Yakuzza Lethecus: pema: dancer in the dark
Eliza Madrigal: haha.... he shot up and then poofed
Eden Haiku: Goodnite Pema, thank you again..Hey he is flying through the roof!
Eliza Madrigal: like dumbledore, giggles
Yakuzza Lethecus: dream
Yakuzza Lethecus: breaking the habits and allow to dream
Eden Haiku: Dancer in the Dark, giggles...
Eliza Madrigal: Ah.... wow what a nice phrase Ya
Eliza Madrigal: allowing the dreams to flow... in a way....
Yakuzza Lethecus: dancer in the dark is a byörk album ?
Yakuzza Lethecus: or movie
Eden Haiku: Our own Dumbledore yes, aren't we lucky :)))
Yakuzza Lethecus: gosh

--BELL--
