Calvino Rabeni: OK, the holiday season is a little over-stimulating
Calvino Rabeni: I like it but find it a bit tiring
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes. I'm glad it's over . I'm looking forward to getting home again
Calvino Rabeni: the social events, parties, and so on make it a busy time of year
Calvino Rabeni: are you away?
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes I've been just outside Ottawa for about 16 days. My fathr died on the 10th and I've been living with my mother
Aphrodite Macbain: Sad and stressful
Aphrodite Macbain: Christmas plus funeral...
Calvino Rabeni sighs yes having those together ... whew
Aphrodite Macbain: Hard to keep cheerful
Aphrodite Macbain: Despite turkey and trimmings
Calvino Rabeni: I can imagine
Aphrodite Macbain: I feel badly about leaving but I feel i need to get back to my bed and my kitchen
Aphrodite Macbain: and my own spac

Aphrodite Macbain: Are both your parents alive?
Calvino Rabeni: Yes but they've been out of relationship my whole life (nearly)
Calvino Rabeni: So they never come as a pair
Aphrodite Macbain: I don't know if that is good or bad!
Aphrodite Macbain: Do you have a good relationship with each of them separately?
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, it's more positive than negative all things considered.
Aphrodite Macbain: good
Calvino Rabeni: When I hear others' stories, sometimes I feel envious, sometimes thankful for what I have

Calvino Rabeni: Today I went to (I think it was) a Boxing Day party
Calvino Rabeni: The food theme was Beets
Aphrodite Macbain: as in beetroot?
Calvino Rabeni: there was beet salad, beet soup, beet cake, and beet wine
Aphrodite Macbain: beet wine?
Aphrodite Macbain: :-(
Calvino Rabeni: Yes those root vegetables reddish or purple
Aphrodite Macbain: yes, cant imagine beet wine
Calvino Rabeni: Have you had carrot cake?
Calvino Rabeni: beet cake seems about the same
Aphrodite Macbain: very nourishing!
Aphrodite Macbain: what did you bring?
Calvino Rabeni: Nothing, it wasn't requested and there was too much food as you can imagine
Aphrodite Macbain: nice change from turkey and cranberry sauce
Aphrodite Macbain: sounds vegetrarian
Calvino Rabeni: The day before we saw the movie The Tourist which is a kind of caper romance  starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp
Calvino Rabeni: Hitchcockian in style
Aphrodite Macbain: oh right! god?
Calvino Rabeni: Set in Venice, a bit of a travelogue
Aphrodite Macbain: good
Calvino Rabeni: Reminded me of an old Cary Grant movie
Calvino Rabeni: or some classic movie
Calvino Rabeni: Rather retro
Aphrodite Macbain: hmmm Venice. I'll try and see it. perfect for holiday viewing
Aphrodite Macbain: I like to two actors
Calvino Rabeni: Not very violent either
Calvino Rabeni: Some great chase scenes along the canal
Calvino Rabeni: a little mild and stylish romance
Calvino Rabeni: I'll be interested to hear the review of the film critic Anthony Lane
Aphrodite Macbain: I have just finished the first 2 books by Steig Larsson and wonder whether I should see the flicks

Aphrodite Macbain: I'm dying for anything right now- all I've been seeing is the news chanel- it's the only thng my mother can watch right now
Calvino Rabeni: I don't know, I usually stay away from dark or violent films

Tess Aristocrat: some brought side dishes so that was cool

Tess Aristocrat: I gave my dogs some big bones wrapped in christmas paper and they grabbed them up and walked straight to the door..haha
Paradise Tennant: smiles it is a wonderful opportunity to bond the whole food eating cooking thing

Tess Aristocrat: so I unwrapped them and gave them to them and they all went out in different directions to hide them..
