Wol Euler was guardian for this session.
Hana Furlough: Hey Wol
Wol Euler: hello Hana!
Wol Euler: good morning
Wol Euler: where are you? back in Kyoto?
Hana Furlough: good morning to you as well! how is your weekend treating you>
Hana Furlough: yes, i'm back in kyoto as of last night but with a mean cold
Wol Euler: awwww, airplanes are unhealthy places
Wol Euler: and congratulations!
Wol Euler: Dr. Hana.
Hana Furlough: yes they are
Hana Furlough: thank you!
Hana Furlough: haha yes
--BELL--
Wol Euler: how does it feel to be finished? (I assume you are "finished" in some meaningful way :)
Hana Furlough: it feels really good
Hana Furlough: there are a few changes to be made to the introduction, and of course updates for what will become the book, but i am pretty much done
Hana Furlough: how are things with you?
Wol Euler: not as exciting as that :) slow weekend, mostly indoors keeping warm
Wol Euler: it's winter again :/
Hana Furlough: oh dear
Wol Euler: this has been the craziest weather
Hana Furlough: what happened with the flowers?
Wol Euler: that's a good question, I don't know
Wol Euler: there was snow on the ground end of the week, I'll have a look on Monday
Hana Furlough: oh wow
Hana Furlough: it does indeed sound like winter again
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: the temperature was well below freezing for a few days, I had to get out my boots again
Hana Furlough: goodbye spring (for now at least)
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: I'm sure it will return eventually
Hana Furlough: yes, lucky that way
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: I'm excited for you about the book
Wol Euler: I knew you were writing a thesis, but I somehow didn't take the next step of thinking of it as a book to be published :)
Hana Furlough: thank you!
Hana Furlough: a lot of people end up turning it into a book, others make it into articles
Hana Furlough: i'm not sure how long it will take, but eventually i want to go with the former
Hana Furlough: have things picked up at all at work?
Wol Euler: expressions of interest but no new projects
Wol Euler: but we do have a competition to do! Another pool/health complex, due in mid-July
Wol Euler: it'
Wol Euler: it's not income, the opposite of income in fact, but it will keep us busy and might be a paying project
Hana Furlough: oh good, well that sounds somehow promising
Hana Furlough: i'll continue hoping that things get better
--BELL--
Wol Euler: thank you :)
Wol Euler: we have a small house in the works, the building drawings and tender docs for that will keep us busy (and paid) for 15 weeks
Wol Euler: so we are fed and not-idle until say end of August
Hana Furlough: oh good
Hana Furlough: that must be a relief
Wol Euler ponders.
Wol Euler: actually I'm not that worried about the long-term. We do have projects in the pipeline, it will get better long-term.
Wol Euler: short-term is going to be tight, but that's a limited horizon
Hana Furlough: i see
Hana Furlough: that is very hard, though
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: it would of course be easier if we had a lot of work on, yes
Hana Furlough: for sure
Wol Euler: actually I'm enjoying the reduced hours
Wol Euler: it's nice to walk home in daylight
Hana Furlough: haha
Hana Furlough: i can relate
Wol Euler smiles.
Hana Furlough: so you're able to walk to work?
Wol Euler: mmhmm
Wol Euler: it's a nice aspect of living here, the city is very dense, one can walk everywhere
Wol Euler: given enough energy - it's also very hilly
Hana Furlough: nice
Wol Euler: even at the last place, I used to take the bus to work (uphill) and walk the half-hour downhill home each evening
Hana Furlough: yeah the uphill walking can be a little tiresome
Hana Furlough: i'm also taking the bus uphill to work right now, too
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: the biggest problem with uphill is that one arrives sweaty (in summer at least)
Hana Furlough: yes! for sure
Wol Euler: and so few workplaces have showers
Hana Furlough: also hard for us ladies to walk in heels
Hana Furlough: : )
Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: one of the advantages of SL :)
Wol Euler: along with the eternal good weather and optional gravity
Hana Furlough: yes! for sure
--BELL--
Qt Core: Hi Wol, Hana
Wol Euler: good morning, qt
Hana Furlough: hi qt
Hana Furlough: i should get going
Hana Furlough: have nice day, wol and qt
Wol Euler: welcome home, hana. now get some sleep :)
Hana Furlough: haha thank you : )
Qt Core: you too Hana, bye
Hana Furlough: until next time!
Wol Euler waves.
Wol Euler: how are you today, qt?
Qt Core: strangely awake
Qt Core: you ?
Wol Euler: normally awake :)
Wol Euler: heheheh
Wol Euler: what is strange about your awake-ness?
Qt Core: with my constant lack of sleep it doesn't happen often, but maybe sleeping away all saturday afternoon helped ;-)
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: I can think of few better uses of a saturday afternoon!
Qt Core: me neither
Wol Euler: I had a nap yesterday too, but only 45 minutes
Qt Core: to be honest yesterday was still sunny enough to be a "do some walking day" while today is rainy enough to be a book and chocolate one
Wol Euler smiles.
--BELL--
Wol Euler: or book and nap, perhaps? :)
Qt Core: maybe, but then i would find a book that would not keep me interested
Wol Euler: it's such a pity that one cannot "save up" sleep, as one can store food in the cellar
Qt Core: at least we can save up books in bookshelves ;-)
Wol Euler: heheheh, yes
Wol Euler: and to be honest in little piles at the foot of the bookcase too
Wol Euler: and in the bedroom
Qt Core: or hd or clouds nowadays
Wol Euler: and in the kitchen
Wol Euler nods.
Qt Core: we renounced to a sitting room for a library room but it expanded a little outside itself, obviously
Wol Euler nods.
Qt Core: speaking about books... a few days ago i almost thought about rereading Infinite Jest
Spoiler warning: be careful of the reviews.
Qt Core: but then i remembered how it (does not) ends ;-)
Wol Euler: hehehehehe
Wol Euler: but that is the best aspect of it :)
Wol Euler: I've read it three times and may do so again this summer
Qt Core: i almost went violent with the poor book, after all those pages...
Wol Euler giggles.
Qt Core: maybe an electronic format would me a easier read, only if with easy access to the "little" footnotes"
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: I just kept two bookmarks in it :)
Wol Euler: have you read his "Pale King" yet?
Wol Euler: it's so obviously just a manuscript, not nearly a finished book, but it is very good
--BELL--
Qt Core: no, infinite jest is his only work i've read... to be honest i'm a little scared of his work now ;-)
Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: I can see that, sure.
Qt Core: but maybe i'll try something
Qt Core: i thought again about infinite jest as for some reasin i tried to explain the general plot and the Incadenza family to my mother... it took all dinner and a while
Wol Euler listens.
Qt Core: got many "huh ?" as reactions
Qt Core: and bored my sister to death too
Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: it is a hard one to explain, granted
Wol Euler: actually, did you find that trying to explain helped you to understand it yourself?
Qt Core: wondering how many movies it'll need
Qt Core: no as i didn't do it just after reading it
Qt Core: to much time has gone, maybe i even modified it ;-)
Wol Euler nods.
Qt Core: another job for peter jackson ?
Wol Euler: ha!
Wol Euler: he has the stamina for it
Qt Core: i'd like to see someone do something good with Asimov foundation series... or something i've never read to make me
Wol Euler: it's surprising that nobody has, now that you mention it
--BELL--
Qt Core: too long and too brainy (if you want to follow all strands)
Qt Core: for something spectacular and violent (good movie material) the Chtorr saga would be good too
Wol Euler: hmm, don't know that one
Qt Core: an alien invasion, but ecological more than military, by a planet way ahead of us in evolution
Wol Euler: I'l look that up
Qt Core: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_War...nst_the_Chtorr (awaiting for the next novel for years)
Wol Euler: reading .....
Wol Euler: fascinating. I wonder why I never heard of it
Qt Core: i'm reading the article too... and now i wonder about having read the "censored" editions...may have to find the second editions.... probably in english
Qt Core: i have a hate/love relationship with waiting for next books in a series ;-)
Wol Euler: heheh, yes
Wol Euler: I am waiting for the next Game of Thrones installment too
Qt Core: i know about it but haven't read it... too many series around nowadays
Wol Euler nods
--BELL--
Wol Euler: I hadn't really expected to enjoy it this much
Qt Core: even if there is never enough books, only too little space/money/time for them
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: anyway, qt, I must head off to other places
Wol Euler: lovely to see you again
Qt Core: me too, just being called
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: enjoy the day
Qt Core: have fun then
