Wol Euler was guardian for this session.
Wol Euler: hello cat
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Wol :)
Wol Euler: how's life?
Catrinamonblue Resident: up and down as per usual;-/
Wol Euler: ah well :(
Catrinamonblue Resident: it is what it is acceptance is manditory sometimes
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: the usefulness of beating one's head against a wall is known to be low
Catrinamonblue Resident: and really there is always a silver lining to be found
Wol Euler: that too :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: lol been there done that with the wall :) tired now
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: hello eliza
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Eliza :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi :)
Wol Euler: you are both very spring-like, I feel underdressed
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Eliza Madrigal: like a band...we're your back up
Catrinamonblue Resident: smiles
Wol Euler: let me see what I can do about this .....
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Aggers :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Agatha
Eliza Madrigal: bardo
Eliza Madrigal: oui
Eliza Madrigal grins at Wol
Agatha Macbeth: Need to be in NO for that i guess
Wol Euler: hello aggers
Agatha Macbeth: Yo Wollage
Agatha Macbeth: I see you with lots of grey stuff on
Wol Euler: give it time :)
Eliza Madrigal: fantastic... what else is SL for but to wear things such as that
Wol Euler beams
Catrinamonblue Resident: flowers?
Agatha Macbeth: Very true that Liz
Wol Euler: mmhmm
Agatha Macbeth: Ah, floral Wollie
Catrinamonblue Resident: wow Wol that is seriously an awesome outfit!!!
Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: thank you
--BELL--
Agatha Macbeth: Actually it's one of her quieter ones :p
Catrinamonblue Resident: love the butterflies flying around you :)
Wol Euler: :)
Eliza Madrigal: took many butterflies to dream of Wol
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Wol Euler: perhaps one must dream of being a flock of butterflies
Wol Euler: or whatever the plural noun is
Agatha Macbeth: Flutterbies
Agatha Macbeth: Hm greenery seems in vogue today
Wol Euler: they started it :) and I felt left out, so put on this
Eliza Madrigal: st patricks hangover... we've not gone home yet
Eliza Madrigal: :P
Agatha Macbeth: Ha
Agatha Macbeth: Aww, and I took mine off :(
Eliza Madrigal: you have green fives on
Catrinamonblue Resident: for me it was in defiance of the 20 cm of snow we are supposed to get tomorrow
Agatha Macbeth: Yeh, true
Wol Euler: wow
Eliza Madrigal likes that... defiance of the weather.. SL protest
Wol Euler nods.
Catrinamonblue Resident: I'm so done with winter
Agatha Macbeth: Are you on the west side or east cat?
Catrinamonblue Resident: near Ottawa
Agatha Macbeth: Ah, right
Catrinamonblue Resident: http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/caon0757
Catrinamonblue Resident: what they are saying :)
Agatha Macbeth: Look on the bright side, at least it's not Hudson's Bay :p
Eliza Madrigal would think it would be fun to hunker down :)
Agatha Macbeth: Like penguins?
Wol Euler: heh, yes
Eliza Madrigal: ^.^ sure
Catrinamonblue Resident: sure if I didn't have to go anywhere but have appt in Cornwall an hour drive away
Wol Euler: :(
Agatha Macbeth loves penguins
Wol Euler: good luck with that, cat
Eliza Madrigal: ack... yes that does make a difference
Wol Euler: (not sarcastic)
Catrinamonblue Resident: :) I know thanks guys
Wol Euler smiles.
Agatha Macbeth: Remember to take a shovel
Catrinamonblue Resident: may not go depends on how bad it looks at the time we have to teave
Eliza Madrigal nods
Eliza Madrigal: seems wise
Agatha Macbeth: Love is like a butterfly
Wol Euler: cats chase it?
Agatha Macbeth: Or Val Doonican?
Catrinamonblue Resident: soft and delicate and strong as steel?
Eliza Madrigal: flighty?
Wol Euler: Love is like Val Doonican? you'll have to explain that
Agatha Macbeth: Don't be concerned
Agatha Macbeth: It will not harm you
Agatha Macbeth: it's only me
Eliza Madrigal: wreaks havoc with slight flappings?
Agatha Macbeth: Persuing something I'm not sure of
Agatha Macbeth: Etc
Eliza Madrigal listens
Agatha Macbeth: That's it :p
Wol Euler grins.
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Agatha Macbeth: You don't know that song?
Wol Euler: nope
Agatha Macbeth: Mon dieu
Wol Euler: sorry
Wol Euler is sad.
Agatha Macbeth: You really have led a sheltered life Wollie
Wol Euler: apparently.
Catrinamonblue Resident: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FF0m-580B4
Catrinamonblue Resident: never heard of either
Agatha Macbeth: I thought everyone knew Val Doonican's whole repertoire
Agatha Macbeth: Ah well
Catrinamonblue Resident: well now we know and can explore yes? :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: he has a nice voice
Agatha Macbeth: Indeed
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, I do know this!
Agatha Macbeth: Go for it
Wol Euler: hmmm, new to me. Thank you!
Agatha Macbeth smiles
Wol Euler: I only know him as a name, I was aware of him but never knowingly heard any of his songs.
Eliza Madrigal: maybe I've heard it once or twice... nice lyrics
Agatha Macbeth: You must have seen his jumpers
Wol Euler: "the long-abandoned ruins of someone I used to be" nice.
Agatha Macbeth: Yes
--BELL--
Agatha Macbeth: Oh dear, did i totally kill the conversation?
Wol Euler: we are all mellowed-out on that song
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Agatha Macbeth: Aww
Eliza Madrigal: must be it
Agatha Macbeth: 'Follow that' :p
Eliza Madrigal: we could all write our pab poems :)
Agatha Macbeth: Hm, think I need suggestions
Eliza Madrigal: it is an odd thing, but I was working on the note for my project out of SL and it didn't work at all
Eliza Madrigal: when I came in, then the connections flowed easily
Agatha Macbeth: Nice
Eliza Madrigal: and I remembered a session... "five ways of PaB"
Wol Euler smiles.
Eliza Madrigal: in it Pema also mentioned Tilopa's outline... which I'll likely post one day during the retreat pages
Agatha Macbeth: Did she have a nice outline?
Wol Euler: http://wiki.playasbeing.org/Chat_Logs/2010/01/2010.01.16_07%3a00_-The_Five_Ways_of_PaB
Eliza Madrigal: ty :) And here is Tilopa's wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilopa
Catrinamonblue Resident: Wol ws faster tan me :)
Eliza Madrigal: the "six words of advice" is what I was pointing to
Wol Euler: :)
Eliza Madrigal: heheh. thanks for gesture too
Eliza Madrigal: I read that outline nearly each day when I was beginning to meditate.. maybe should go back to that cause I still don't know how :P
Agatha Macbeth: Hmm
Catrinamonblue Resident: looking at them, hard to do
Eliza Madrigal: yes
Wol Euler smiles.
Eliza Madrigal: Pema said the way to look at it is that all the other advice nests in the bottom line
Eliza Madrigal: "rest"
Wol Euler: “The problem is not enjoyment; the problem is attachment.” <- yes
Agatha Macbeth: Pema seems to read everything backwards :p
Eliza Madrigal: hehehe
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe he's been in Japan too long
Wol Euler: hehehe
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eliza Madrigal: well he reads it bottom to top
Eliza Madrigal: like a picture, so yes... Japan influence likely
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Agatha Macbeth: We're back to 'open other end' it seems
Wol Euler smiles.
Eliza Madrigal: still love that :)
Wol Euler: agreed
Agatha Macbeth: YW :)
Agatha Macbeth: I have my moments it seems
Eliza Madrigal: you do
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Agatha Macbeth: :)
Eliza Madrigal: somehow it makes me think too, of reaching for a box... like, cereal... and the bottom being out ofit
Agatha Macbeth: Erk
Agatha Macbeth: Lots of cleaning up to do
Eliza Madrigal: but that being a kind of relief because I shouldn't be eating that sugary stuff anyway
Agatha Macbeth: No sugar in corn flakes is there?
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: nothing but sugar
Agatha Macbeth: Oh
Wol Euler: in almost all packaged food
Wol Euler: and the tricks the manufacturers play to make it look less so. I bought a box of what called itself low-sugar cereal, and the blurb on the back talks about what a tiny amount of sugar there is in a 40 gram serving.
Wol Euler: Well, I was curious about that so I checked. My serving was 109 grams.
Wol Euler: and I did not eat out of a bucket
--BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: :))
Wol Euler: 40 grams is barely an espresso cup full
Catrinamonblue Resident: typical of the food manufacturers
Wol Euler: to me htat is close to fraudulent, it understates by nearly two-thirds the amount of sugar one is eating
Eliza Madrigal nods
Agatha Macbeth: What about salt is there much of that?
Wol Euler: hmmm, I'd have to check
Catrinamonblue Resident: I eat oatmeal for breakfast, quick oats with a bit of maple syrup :)
Wol Euler: that is probably safe, cat :)
Eliza Madrigal: what is allowed in the way of food labeling is amazing - I romanticize the idea of having a container garden and shopping for little one day
Wol Euler nods.
Catrinamonblue Resident: I have this dream of having a hobby farm :)
Agatha Macbeth: The good life
Catrinamonblue Resident: I do have a small garden :)
Eliza Madrigal: simple life :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes?
Catrinamonblue Resident: grow lots of tomatoes, peas, carrots, rhubarb, raspberries,
Wol Euler: coming from farming ancestors, and knowing my farming cousins, I am somewhat skeptical about the simple life of food growing :)
Eliza Madrigal: fantastic... make pie?
Agatha Macbeth: Oo arr
Catrinamonblue Resident: I love roasting tomatoes with onions and garlic in the oven
Catrinamonblue Resident: splash of olive iol
Catrinamonblue Resident: oil
Eliza Madrigal: well... I don't romanticize "being a farmer"
Agatha Macbeth can smell it now
Wol Euler: which is not to say that you shouldn't do it! by all means do!
Wol Euler: any non-industrial food in your diet is good!
Catrinamonblue Resident: so yummy as spaghetti sauce
Wol Euler: hello qt
Qt Core: hi all
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Qt :)
Eliza Madrigal: love that too Cat... slow roasting?
Agatha Macbeth: Buona sera QT
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Qt!
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes :)
Eliza Madrigal: I have grown a few things before... impossible not to do okay with peppers for instance but only so many things one can make with peppers :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: Wol I have friends who have a hobby farm so I'm under no illusions as to the amount of work required to keep animals
Qt Core: spaghetti... an interesting topic ;-)
Eliza Madrigal grins at Qt
Agatha Macbeth: Thing is, if our ancestors didn't eat all this stuff how come we live so much longer than they did?
Eliza Madrigal: we don't exert ourselves the way they did surely
Catrinamonblue Resident: scientific advancement in health and hygiene
Eliza Madrigal: hygiene, nods
Agatha Macbeth ponders
Qt Core: and not fighting with wolves and lions
Wol Euler: and also simply more food
Wol Euler: refrigeration
Eliza Madrigal: not the same kinds of wolves & lions anyway
Wol Euler: they ate a lot of bad, rotting, food simply because they had nothing else
Catrinamonblue Resident: nods
Wol Euler: that is why the spice trade was so important
Agatha Macbeth: Poor dears
Qt Core: and they just didn't eat for days at once
Agatha Macbeth: Guess we're pretty lucky
Catrinamonblue Resident: yees
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: yesterday had a poetry reading... can I share one of the blessings we read?
Agatha Macbeth: Go for it!
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes please :)
Wol Euler: please do
Qt Core: yes
Eliza Madrigal plunders inventory
Eliza Madrigal:
For Longing
Blessed be the longing that brought you here
And quickens your soul with wonder.
May you have the courage to listen to the voice of desire
That disturbs you when you have settled for something safe.
May you have the wisdom to enter generously into your own unease
To discover the new direction your longing wants you to take.
May the forms of your belonging – in love, creativity and friendship
Be equal to the grandeur and the call of your soul.
May the one you long for long for you.
May your dreams gradually reveal the destination of your desire.
May a secret Providence guide your thought and nurture your feeling.
May your mind inhabit your life with the sureness with which your body inhabits the world.
May your heart never be haunted by ghost-structures of old damage.
May you come to accept your longing as divine urgency.
May you know the urgency with which God longs for you.
From John O’Donohue’s Benedictus
Eliza Madrigal: (sorry to make you rapidly open chat windows) :)) we read several like these... John O'Donohue is lovely
Catrinamonblue Resident: Oh Eliza there are tears i my eyes, thank you for that, something I really needed today
Wol Euler: lovely! thank you
Eliza Madrigal: (((((Cat))))) most welcome... he died just a few years ago.. but was so... hm, close to earth and rhythms..
Qt Core: some lines struck quite near , ty
Eliza Madrigal smiles, happy
Eliza Madrigal: now have tutoring... hm, nice to be with you all for a while
Qt Core: bye Eliza
Catrinamonblue Resident: Bye Eliza :)
Agatha Macbeth: Bye Liz, tutor well
Wol Euler: bye eliza, thank you and tutor well
Eliza Madrigal: bye, hugs :) ty
Agatha Macbeth: Snap
Eliza Madrigal: <--sits in car and reads while son is in tutoring place
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Wol Euler: nice too :)
Agatha Macbeth: Don't park illegaly
--BELL--
Catrinamonblue Resident: I too must be going :)
Agatha Macbeth: Actually, think I'll move on too
Agatha Macbeth: All this talk of food has made me hungry
Catrinamonblue Resident: bye everyone have a nice evening/day :)
Qt Core: bye Cat, Agatha
Agatha Macbeth: Bye for now folks, tc
Wol Euler: hheheeh, bon appetit
Wol Euler: bye agggers, bye cat
Wol Euler: take care
Qt Core: i'm wondering if all this spring attire i saw is to exorcize the hellish winter days we still have
Wol Euler: heheheh, yes something like that
Wol Euler: showing Nature what to do
Wol Euler: "come on, look, it's easy"
Qt Core: got 5cm of wet snow around here
Wol Euler: wow
Qt Core: and i now realize i forgot american dst :-)
Wol Euler: heheheh
Wol Euler: one more week, then we are in sync again
Qt Core: 2 weeks, on easter
Wol Euler: ah, yes, quite right. I can't count
Qt Core: wondering how hungry old fashioned priest are about that
Qt Core: angry...
Wol Euler: because of the midnight mass?
Wol Euler: the change is at 2am, technically
Qt Core: no, just for the state messing with easter night
Wol Euler: ah
Wol Euler: that is bad planning, come to think of it. They could have put it a week either side
Wol Euler: actually, now that I think of it, I wonder who "they" is?
Wol Euler: who decides when the time changes?
Qt Core: it is just the last sunday of march, or pc would go crazy (or crazier)
Wol Euler: is it always that? odd, my impression was that it was more variable
Wol Euler: if that is the case, then I guess Easter has to suffer
Qt Core: and then dst will be a hot topic on easter big lunches
Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: how many will be late? ;)
Qt Core: smartphones to the help
Wol Euler grins.
Qt Core: and almost anyone i know has radio-adjusted alarms nowadays
Wol Euler: not me :) but the computers know it, so I figure out fairly quickly
--BELL--
Wol Euler: actually, heh, I do own a self-adjusting radio-guided alarm, I just never got around to unpacking it
Qt Core: mine aren't radio-guided, only one misteriously know about dst (until the rules change i think) but thinking back at the phone/pc clocks it is nice to know they are always right
Qt Core: i more then once thought about buying a self adjusting wristwatch
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: it's a great idea, but I am too attached to my analog wristwatch.
Qt Core: i was attached to my wristwatch when i used public transportation (on school days) i had one woth many alarms for the different days
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: very practical
Qt Core: so i could await in a nearby bar ;-)
Wol Euler: extremely practical :)
Wol Euler: one of the signs of holiday to me is leaving the watch off :) it feels really odd for a few days
Qt Core: in last years i wore my watch only at the gym... as i take off my glasses there wall clock are useless ;-)
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: I read somewhere that young people (late teen to mid-twenties) aren't wearing watches any more, because they hate single-function devices
Wol Euler: I always forget to look around to see whether that's true here or not
Qt Core: well, i owned pretty complex (but still cheap) watches, like one that was able to read data from my pc.... via something like barcodes on my monitor
Wol Euler: wow :)
Qt Core: some say that Apple will present a iWatch phone next
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: I read that too, yes. Interesting idea, but why? I guess the key will be what extra functions they tie into it, like the iPhone
Qt Core: wondering how it will deliver sound... all peope borg-ized with bluetooth headset ?
Wol Euler: if it were say a GPS watch, yes with bluetooth sound
--BELL--
Qt Core: and you'll have to unwear it every night forgetting it on the morning ? i like the idea (or i would not wear a trek commbadge)...but i'll skip a generation or two before getting one
Qt Core: unwear it to recharge it
Qt Core: most of the time i forgot my phone at home is as it is recharging
Wol Euler: well, I take my watch off every night too :) and I do tend to leave it in the same place overnight
Wol Euler: but yes, I do that too, and it is a risk
Wol Euler: though I wonder why ... why is it harder to remember my phone on the kitchen table than my watch on the dresser?
Qt Core: surgical implants then, recharging with microturbine in our blood vessel then
Qt Core: it's interesting and scary how many times i end up to the put a wifi antenna in my skull, please
Wol Euler grins.
Qt Core: thinking about tech progress, a few years ago it was a usb port, before that a ethernet cable and preistorically it was a serial port...
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: and the size of data storage decreases too, from the 300 Mb hard disk that was the size of a shoe box, to hundreds of gigabytes on a thing the size (but not thinness) of a credit card
Wol Euler: data storage capacity has gone from being a criterion and a crisis, to being trivial, "just buy another external drive"
Wol Euler: you can buy a terabyte now for a tenth of what I paid for thirty megabytes
Qt Core: a couple weeks ago i showed my mother a 32 Gb usb stick... she used to tell me tales about punched cards, magnetic tapes and the supermodern new 5mb hd
Wol Euler smiles.
Qt Core: a thing sized like a dishwasher
Wol Euler: it probably cost as much as a small car
Qt Core: it was the newst tech she worked with before leaving programming for something with more human worktimes as she married
--BELL--
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler sighs.
Wol Euler: qt, I am going to head off, it's getting to bedtime
Qt Core: i agree
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: goodnight, sweet dreams
Qt Core: sleep well, bye
