Bruce Mowbray: 4 "elements": air, water, earth, fire (Blub has a preference for Air).

Pema Pera: So we postpone judgment. We observe, we reflect, we explore and experiment, but we don't jump to conclusions. While we do all that, we don't carry along a belief in existence as being fundamental and we don't carry along a belief in appearance as being fundamental. In addition, we don't disbelieve that existance may be fundamental and we don't disbelieve that appearance may be fundamental. In short, we refrain from any fundamentalist attitude, while keeping open the possibility that one or the other of these two fundamentalist attitudes just may be true.

Hana Furlough: hmmmm.... i find that testing sometimes involves a kind of essential skepticism
Pema Pera: skepticism is good, denial is very bad

Eliza Madrigal: so you may have to trust that you 'can' let it go ... before you put it on...
Hana Furlough: but i think there are things that don't manifest in the face of skepticism

Bruce Mowbray: In order to "see" magic - one must suspend one's disbelief that magic is not possible. So, "Time as Magic" requires a similar suspension of disbelief, perhaps.

Bruce Mowbray: I think that in order to understand the fundamentalist mind-set one has to "be there" with fundamentalists for a while.

Bruce Mowbray: That way of "framing" one's experience is present in EVERY religion, political system, and mental discipline - including science, of course.

Bruce Mowbray: It shocked me when I first encountered fundamentalist Buddhists -- so contradictory, I thought -- Then I reqalized that I was being a fundie by seeing them in that way, myself.

Pema Pera: I personally prefer working with hypthesis rather than dogma, but if somebody else lives a happy and deep live based on dogma, why not? As long as they don't use their dogma to hit others with, that's often the rub
