The Guardian for this meeting was Myna Maven. The comments are by Myna Maven.

A meandering path of conversation glancing on  subjects such as food, farms and the Great Depression, the annoyance of spring forward/fall back, the Buddhist/Benedictine monk exchange, Gethsemani Abbey, and eventually the enormous undertaking of the PaB Chronicles, a work being pursued by Adams Rubble and Corvuscorva Nightfire.

"I am trying to get a flavor of the month. Not sure it will work yet," Adams said.

"PaB flavor of the month!" replied Pema.

BB Zardak supplied a subplot entrenched in suspence of being unable to take a seat and everyone gamely trying to assist.

Myna Maven: Hey, Pila. Nice to see you.
    Pila Mulligan: hi Myna
    Pila Mulligan: how are you?
Myna Maven: I am eating some of my husband's good cooking.
Myna Maven: Kind of a dirty rice.
    Pila Mulligan: sound slik efun
    Pila Mulligan: like fun*
Pila Mulligan: like a stir fry?
Myna Maven: It's good. He's a great cook.
    Myna Maven: Hi Adelene.
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Adelene Dawner: Hiyo ^.^
    Pila Mulligan: hi Ade
    Adelene Dawner: ^.^
Pila Mulligan: Myna's having some of her husband's rice, and I'm curious about what is in it
    Adelene Dawner: Ah :)
Myna Maven: OK, what's in it. Andouille sausage, lot of celery, bell pepper, yellow onion, a couple of tomatoes (not much presence, intentionally). Chicken.
    Myna Maven: Seasoned with tabasco.
    Myna Maven: Worcestershire.
    Pila Mulligan: wow
Pila Mulligan: it is cooked like fried rice? all together
Myna Maven: No. The rice goes in last and just simmers for a few minutes.
    Pila Mulligan: ahh, sounds nice
Adelene Dawner contemplates food... Is it breakfast or dinner when it's 10pm and you've just woken up?
    Pila Mulligan: hi Pema
Myna Maven: He makes a fabulous gumbo too. Some of the infulences from Louisiana, Alabama gulf relatives.
    Myna Maven: Hi Pema.
    Adelene Dawner: Hiya Pem ^.^
Pema Pera: Hi Myna, Pila, Adelene!
Pila Mulligan: I like such foods, Myna
Pema Pera: gumbo is seafood (guessing :)
Pila Mulligan: Myna was describing the rice meal her husband made
Myna Maven: Pema, there are things my husband puts in his gumbo that he wouldn't tell me about for years.
    Pema Pera: hahaha
    Myna Maven: :)
Pila Mulligan: it is like a stew
    Pila Mulligan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumbo
Pema Pera: like haggis in Scotland?
    Pema Pera: http://www.gumbopages.com/food/scottish/haggis.html
Pema Pera: how's that for a combination web site -- gumbo and haggis!
Pila Mulligan: cajun food also can be hot
Pema Pera: so it does have seafood in it!
Myna Maven: Man, what does he put in his gumbo. Same base as the dirty rice but garlic and a major mix of seafood. Oh, and tons of okra.
Myna Maven: Well, garlic goes in everything.
Myna Maven: I've never had haggis.
Pema Pera: neither do I, but my co-author on a book I wrote on astronomy swears by it
Pema Pera: but then again, he is Scottish . . .
Pila Mulligan: haggis looks mor elike a suagae than a stew -- had not seen it before
    Pila Mulligan: sausage*
    Pema Pera: yes
Pema Pera: I went not with the stew but "what the hell went into this?" bit :-)
    Pila Mulligan: :0
    Myna Maven: :)
Pila Mulligan: well, I'm going to make some rice soon to have with a homemade soyburger, so ingredient ideas are timely
Pila Mulligan: thanks for mentioning the US time change Pema
    Pila Mulligan: in your emial
Pila Mulligan: i always forget it
    Pema Pera: :)
Pila Mulligan: we don't have the time change in Hawaii and it is easy to overlook it
Pema Pera: astronomers used to be time keepers . . . .
    Pila Mulligan: :0
    Adelene Dawner: ^.^
Pema Pera: and no, stars don't jump by an hour either tomorrow . . .
Pila Mulligan: the Naval Obrservatory still does, for the US
Pema Pera: I wish they would stop shifting the hours around -- we can do without daylight saving
Pila Mulligan: and what does that make the complement, daylight wasting?
    Pema Pera: :-)
Myna Maven: A lot of people wish it would be stopped.
    Pema Pera: daylight borrowing?
Pila Mulligan: it was needed whn famrers did ordinary farm work, I suppose
    Pema Pera: yup
Pila Mulligan: are there any such farms left in the US?
Pila Mulligan: not many, I'm afraid
Myna Maven: I was talking to my dad, today, about when he was a child his going to visits his grandparents on a working farm.
Myna Maven: The next generation it was no longer enough to support the family and as people had to take jobs there was less man power to put into keeping the working farm going.
Pila Mulligan: yep, Wendell Berry has written movingly about the demise of family farms
Pila Mulligan: concentration of eceonomic power is not always helpful, he said
Pila Mulligan: seems to be proving true, these days
Myna Maven: That's what got us talking about the old farm.
Pila Mulligan: by the late 1920's there had just been a large migration from farms to urban areas ...
Pila Mulligan: after the Depression began, most of those folks could go back to their family farms
    Pila Mulligan: and did
Myna Maven: That's when the shift in his family took place.
Myna Maven: Those who were on the farms were largely unaffected (I hear) in his family.
Myna Maven: But this was midwest and I know these were dust bowl times as well.
Myna Maven: I'm surprised taht didn't hurt their farms.
Pila Mulligan: well, it was farm forclosures relating to the drought that set off the bank failures, as I recall -- but for the farms unaffected by it it must have been growing as usual
    Adelene Dawner: Hiya Stim :)
    Myna Maven: Hello Stim.
    Pila Mulligan: hi Stim
    Pema Pera: Hi Stim!
    Stim Morane: Hi!
    Pila Mulligan: how are you?
Stim Morane: Tired ... it's a retreat weekend, so I've been dealing with that since yesterday evening
    Pila Mulligan: ahh
Pema Pera: what is the theme this weekend, Stim?
    Stim Morane: none
    Pema Pera: none at all?
    Stim Morane: no, just practice
Pema Pera: And the last few weekends?
    Adelene Dawner: Hiya Steve ^.^
Stim Morane: We're mostly just sitting
    Myna Maven: Hi Steven, BB.
Pema Pera: Hi Steve and BB
    Pila Mulligan: hi Steve, BB
Myna Maven: I'm liking the slippers.
    BB Zadark: hi
    stevenaia Michinaga: grins
Pema Pera: Hi BB, good to see you again, do you remember how to sit down?
    Myna Maven: :)
Pema Pera: right click on a cushion and choose "sit"
Pema Pera: from the pie diagram
Pema Pera: mouse right click that is
stevenaia Michinaga: Pema, nice meeting this morning. looking forward to the posted log
Myna Maven: What was the discussion?
stevenaia Michinaga: Geo and Pema were discussing the Buddiest and Benedictine monks exchange
Myna Maven: OK. I've listened to some podcasts on that.
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
stevenaia Michinaga: there is also a web page
    Myna Maven: Hey Corvi.
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Corvi
    Pila Mulligan: hi Corvi
Myna Maven: BB, I feel kind of helpless here watching you try to sit down.
BB Zadark: sitting is a problem tonight even with p 34 and your help--i'm slow
stevenaia Michinaga: better background than I can give aside from the log (which is not up yet)
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://www.monasticdialog.com/
Pema Pera: feel free to ask us questions, BB, we have all gone through the process!
Myna Maven: THanks for the link Steven.
Pema Pera: and we all had to ask others
Myna Maven: (Am reading Steven's link.)
Pema Pera: BB, did you see my IM messages?
Pila Mulligan: oh, Steve's web link says they will have a ocnference at Gethsemani Abbey -- I've always wanted to visit there -- it was Thomas Merton's place
Myna Maven: Then I'm not surprised they'd have a conference there. :)
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: Hiya, Adams!
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Adams
    Myna Maven: Hi Adams.
Adams Rubble: Hi Corvi, Steve, Myna, everyone :)
stevenaia Michinaga: where do you shop?
    BB Zadark: yes
    Pila Mulligan: hi Adams
    Pema Pera: hi Adams!
Corvuscorva Nightfire: Oh Adams..that orange is lovely on you.
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
    Adams Rubble: Hi Pema :)
    Adams Rubble blushes
    Myna Maven: :)
Myna Maven: (Am looking at pics of Gethsemani Abbey in Kentucky. Kentucky?)
Pila Mulligan: just to the left of Touch is Sit Here, BB
Pila Mulligan: it is in rurla Kentucky
Pila Mulligan: and they *had* conferences there, not will have :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://www.monks.org/gallery/1/med/Monastery_071707_001.htm
Pila Mulligan: they welcome contemplative guests and have a beautiful environment
Adams Rubble: are we trying to bring the retreat to the east coast?
    Adams Rubble: hehe
stevenaia Michinaga: as usual I distracted the group... grins
Pila Mulligan: it might avoid Storm's concern, Adams :)
    Adams Rubble nods
Myna Maven: Was reading about that.
stevenaia Michinaga: and bring up others
Pila Mulligan: something about conflict -- it can be ubiquitous
    Pila Mulligan: hi Rain
    Rain Rappaport: Hello :)
    Pema Pera: Hi Rain!
    Myna Maven: Hi rain.
    Adams Rubble: Hello Rain
Pema Pera: Hve you been here before, Rain?
    Rain Rappaport: Nope
Myna Maven: I"m sending you a notecard. Just a minute.
    Rain Rappaport: ok
Pila Mulligan: nice profile, Rain: 'buddhist by day, and vampire by nite' :)
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: Hi Three
    Adams Rubble: Hello Threedee :)
Pema Pera: Hi Threedee! Long time no see :)
    Pila Mulligan: hi Threedee
Myna Maven: The conversations are recorded, if you don't mind.
    Rain Rappaport: lol thnx Pila
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Myna Maven: Hi Three.
Threedee Shepherd: I was oon ten day vacation
    Pila Mulligan: welcome back :)
    Threedee Shepherd: hi all
    Pila Mulligan: you look refreshed
Adams Rubble: Good to have you back :)
Myna Maven: I hope you're nice and refreshed.
Pema Pera: ten day vacation without internet?
Pila Mulligan: must have gone to Mane
    Corvuscorva Nightfire snickers.
    Adams Rubble: hehe
Pema Pera dreaming about such an idea . . . and horrified about the backlog afterwards
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: that was awful!
Pila Mulligan: yes, Corvi, mea culpa
    Threedee Shepherd: no Phoenix
Myna Maven: Y'know Pila, that was awful.
    Myna Maven: I second Corvi.
Threedee Shepherd: I did e-maiol daily
Myna Maven: Used to have relatives in Phoenix. Nice place.
Corvuscorva Nightfire dies....oh god, Three...that was worse!
Pila Mulligan: Phoenix, the pride of Arizona (better?)
    Corvuscorva Nightfire laughs....
Myna Maven: Well, I liked it. I'm a sucker for cactus and palm trees.
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: only a little.
Threedee Shepherd: Steve, I took the tour at Teliesin West in Scottsdale
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
    Myna Maven: We did too!
    Adams Rubble: oh neat
    Myna Maven: Twice.
stevenaia Michinaga: a formar classmate is the foundation's facilities architect, any complaints?
    Threedee Shepherd: nope
    Adams Rubble: :)
Myna Maven: None. Zero complaints. We had a great time, each time.
stevenaia Michinaga: lovely, should ahve been quite inspirational, now you can build in in SL?
    BB Zadark: thanks
Threedee Shepherd: You, not rectangular boxes allowed
    Threedee Shepherd: Yes
    Threedee Shepherd: , no ...
    stevenaia Michinaga: got it
    Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: Good night all :)
Pema Pera: Adams, how is it going with
    Pema Pera: oops
    stevenaia Michinaga: night adams
    Myna Maven: G'nite Adams.
    Pema Pera: okay, goodnight :-)
    Adams Rubble: whoops
    Rain Rappaport: nite :)
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: g'night, Adams.
    Adams Rubble: with?
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: sleep good
    Pema Pera: ah, just curious
Pema Pera: about the chronicles writing :)
Pema Pera: seems like you're doing a wonderful job
Adams Rubble: I am into October
Adams Rubble: There must 1500 logs to read :)
    Pila Mulligan: bye Adams
stevenaia Michinaga: you read all the logs, Adams?
Pema Pera: I presume you don't read them all?
    Adams Rubble: /'me is beary-eyed
    Pema Pera: hahaha
    Adams Rubble: bleary
Stim Morane: I won't be able to stay long. since I'm still on retreat time.
Pema Pera: does everyone know about the chronicle project?
stevenaia Michinaga: I;m about to, tell us
Adams Rubble: Corvi is helping me
Stim Morane: I'll have to leave in another couple of minutes
    Adams Rubble: bye Stim :)
Pema Pera: Adams volunteered (or was volunteered) to write a history of the first year of Play as Being
stevenaia Michinaga: good seeing you Stim
    Pema Pera: bye Stim!
    Adams Rubble: hmmm
    Myna Maven: Bye Stim.
Pila Mulligan: bye Stim, have a good retreat
Myna Maven: Adams, that's an undertaking.
Pema Pera: and Adam and Corvi are doing a great job
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: Adam
Pema Pera: interviewing oldtimers and newtimers
Corvuscorva Nightfire: I haven't done a single interview, yet.
    stevenaia Michinaga: why by "month"
    Adams Rubble: good question Steve
Adams Rubble: Had to chop it up somehow :)
    Adams Rubble: into readable pieces
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
Adams Rubble: but it creates problems
    stevenaia Michinaga: not by people?
Adams Rubble: ah. I am inserting people
    Adams Rubble: in different places
Adams Rubble: I am trying to get a flavor of each month. Not sure it will work yet
Pema Pera: the PaB flavor of the month!
Adams Rubble: Maybe I should reread Joyce :)
Adams Rubble: well now I must go, please do not say goodbye again :)
    Adams Rubble: :)
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: ha!
    stevenaia Michinaga: laughs
    Myna Maven: :)
    Pema Pera: btw, Adams
    Pema Pera: (heheheh)
    Pema Pera: (joke)
Adelene Dawner didn't say goodbye before, so: Bye, Adams. ^.^
    Pila Mulligan: hi Adams
Adelene Dawner giggles at Pila. ^.^
    Myna Maven: brb
Pila Mulligan: try that one BB
    Myna Maven: (back)
Pema Pera: in what way is that different, Pila?
Pila Mulligan: I'm not sure, it is a generic cushion
Pila Mulligan: but I feel a need to do something to try to help BB gat a seat :)
Pema Pera: it seems that for BB there is no pie diagram popping up
Myna Maven: I keep feeling like he deserves a comfit or something.
Pema Pera: Perhaps relogging could help
Pema Pera: logging out and logging back in again?
Pila Mulligan: hmm, do you get a pie diagram with the thicker brown cushion?
Pema Pera: are you talking to BB, Pila?
    Pila Mulligan: yes
Pema Pera: BB, on the round cushion in front of you "meditate" is the word to click on
stevenaia Michinaga: maybe he likes to stand?
Pema Pera: ah, BB on a Mac, right click means "Command click"
Myna Maven: He keeps trying to sit but has been having problems.
stevenaia Michinaga: How did you find this group Rain?
Pema Pera: hold down the command key and then click
Rain Rappaport: Sidd Fonds at Itsari mentioned it awhile ago
    Pila Mulligan: yes
    Myna Maven: Yea!!!
    Pema Pera: yeah!
    Pila Mulligan: it worked
    stevenaia Michinaga: claping
    BB Zadark: that worked!
    Rain Rappaport: Fonda^
Pema Pera: it must be a relief to sit, after all that standing, BB :)
Adelene Dawner: If we run into this again, the cushions from the cushion pile don't require right-clicking, they're set as click-to-sit.
    BB Zadark: my knees hurt:)
    Pema Pera: :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: soon you won;t even feel your knees
    Myna Maven: Ha.
BB Zadark: is that a good thing?
    Myna Maven: lol
Stim Morane: Gotta go. Bye everyone
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: bye, Stim
    Myna Maven: Bye
    Adelene Dawner: cya, Stim :)
    Pila Mulligan: bye Stim
    Pema Pera: bye Stim!
    Rain Rappaport: bye
    BB Zadark: bye
Stim Morane: have a good evening!
Pema Pera: did you get a chance to read a bit about SL in your book, BB?
    BB Zadark: not yet
Pema Pera: I found it useful at first to read a bit here and there
Pema Pera: but most of us I guess just tried by hit and by miss
Pema Pera: how did you get started, Steve?
    stevenaia Michinaga: started?
BB Zadark: just the sitting instructions but my mouse was fiddle with this week and did not work
Pema Pera: yes, I heard from Stim
Pema Pera: on a Mac, if you have not set the right click correct it doesn't work
stevenaia Michinaga: listened to you, Pema
Pema Pera: so it as not a SL problem but a Mac problem :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I thought it was pre-set
Pema Pera: started with SL, Steve
    BB Zadark: right!
Pema Pera: I mean how did you learn to sit and use your cameras and all that
stevenaia Michinaga: rigth click is COMMAND+Click
Pema Pera: from others or from a book or from a tour?
stevenaia Michinaga: someone told me, jsut like we jsut did w/ BB
    Pila Mulligan: use your cameras?
stevenaia Michinaga: the command key is the "cloverleaf" key on older macs
Pema Pera: camera control I meant, Pila
    stevenaia Michinaga: option key
Pema Pera: no not option key
Pema Pera: ah, for camera control, yes
    Pema Pera: sorry :)
stevenaia Michinaga: it;s what I use
stevenaia Michinaga: it can be confusing Pema... snickers
Pema Pera: everything is confusing here, Steve
Pila Mulligan wonders if he has done cameras yet
Pema Pera: but we are used to it :)
Myna Maven: Just tried the camera for the first time.
stevenaia Michinaga: I see they put "alt" on that key now as well
BB Zadark: thanks all for your help...time to go
Pema Pera: nice to see you again, BB
    Myna Maven: Bye BB.
    Pila Mulligan: bye BB
    Rain Rappaport: bye BB :)
stevenaia Michinaga: guess they needed it now that MAc's run Windows as well
    BB Zadark: good night
Pila Mulligan: well, don't laugh, but I just did camers for the first time :)
Pila Mulligan: thanks for mentioning it, its cool
Pema Pera: there is so much to learn about all the many options in SL . . .
Pema Pera: well, time for me to go too
Pema Pera: see y'all soon again!
    Myna Maven: Bye Pema.
    Pila Mulligan: bye Pema
    stevenaia Michinaga: bye Pema
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: bye, Pema!
    Adelene Dawner: 'night, Pem. ^.^
    Rain Rappaport: bye Pema :)
stevenaia Michinaga: so what was the topic before I digressed
Myna Maven: The spiritual benefits of a good hot gumbo.
    stevenaia Michinaga: mmm, how tastie
Pila Mulligan: rice, gumbo, farming, food and time
    Corvuscorva Nightfire nods
Pila Mulligan: but mostly the spiritual benefits of a good hot gumbo
    stevenaia Michinaga: what are they?
Rain Rappaport: well all I do have to go myself, but I will try and come back soon :)
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: bye Rain
stevenaia Michinaga: we will be here :)
    Pila Mulligan: bye Rain
    Rain Rappaport: bye everyone :)
Myna Maven: Bye Rain. Every meeting seems to be different. :)
Pila Mulligan: have a happy vampy evening
    stevenaia Michinaga: lol
Pila Mulligan: Rain's profile: 'buddhist by day, and vampire by nite'
Myna Maven: What are the spiritual benefits of a good hot gumbo? Well-tended in the mundane, a nice radiant heat that feeds the soul.
    Myna Maven: :)
    Pila Mulligan: amen
    stevenaia Michinaga: that's a real pot-full of a theory
Pila Mulligan: similar to spiritual benefits of a good hot curry :0
    Myna Maven: :)
Pila Mulligan: well, my appetite is whetted -- time make some rice for dinner :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: enjoy dinner Pila
Myna Maven: Have a good dinner, Pila.
Pila Mulligan: thanks -- bye friends
    Adelene Dawner: Enjoy, Pila. ^.^
    Myna Maven: Bye. :)
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: bye
    stevenaia Michinaga: thanks Myna
stevenaia Michinaga: I msut be off
    Threedee Shepherd: bye
Myna Maven: Bye Steve. Til later.
    Adelene Dawner: 'night Steve :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: wb Three
