Eliza Madrigal: Good Morning, Samúð :))
    oO0Oo Resident: Maxine :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Maxine :))
Maxine Walden: hi, Eliza, and O :)
Maxine Walden: Happy New Year to you both!
    Maxine Walden: Hi, Santo
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi San :)
    Santoshima Resident: good morning!
Eliza Madrigal: a very Happy New Year too :)
    oO0Oo Resident: Happy New Year
    Eliza Madrigal: restful?
Maxine Walden: The New Year was restful for me....you?

    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: after visiting family for Christmas, New Year was wonderful recovery, hah
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Pema :)
    Maxine Walden: :))
    Maxine Walden: hi, Pema!
    Santoshima Resident: hello Pema :)
    oO0Oo Resident: Pema! Bleu! :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bleu :)
    Bleu Oleander: hi everyone :)
    Maxine Walden: hi, Bleu
    Santoshima Resident: greetings Bleu :)
Pema Pera: greetings to all assembled!

    RR_2012-01-06_MaxineWhalden-3 hands.jpg

Maxine Walden: Wanting to apologize for the email mixup which left many 'out of the loop' in terms of our ongoing discussions!
Maxine Walden: Pema and Eliza just traced that down a few hours ago...after I had inadvertently begun to send email threads to an old 'time' group and then just kept doing so....
Maxine Walden: and that slippage occurred way back in October!

    RR_2012-01-06_MaxineWhalden-6 mid.jpg

Eliza Madrigal: Yikes, but at least sessions are posted >whew< :)
    oO0Oo Resident: No Worries :)
Santoshima Resident: yeah, glad you figured it out ~
Pema Pera: it was an easy mistake to make, and a very hard one to catch
Pema Pera: given that it took us three months to do so!

    RR_2012-01-06_ElizaMadrigal-2 cu.jpg

Maxine Walden: It brought to mind how very vulnerable I/we are in ways which we are unaware of: imagining we are going in one direction and completely unaware that we are actually going in another...
Eliza Madrigal: nods, took a Pema eye
Maxine Walden: yes, the key to recovery seems to be a very attentive eye...thanks again, Pema
Bleu Oleander: like living in our own reality
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pema Pera thinks it was just a very clever zen master like trick by Maxine to show us directly how to "regard reality"!
    Maxine Walden: exactly bleu!

    RR_2012-01-06_Bleu Oleander-6 full.jpg

    oO0Oo Resident: :)
    Maxine Walden: :))
    oO0Oo Resident: Walden Roshi
    Pema Pera: yeah!
    Pema Pera: whack!!
    oO0Oo Resident: lol
    Eliza Madrigal laughs

Maxine Walden: Thought we might at least fold into our talk today this notion of vulnerability, how easily, as bleu suggests, we can slip into our own reality while imagining it is everyone's reality
Bleu Oleander: aren't we always in our own reality?
oO0Oo Resident: When not. possibly no subject of vulnerability?
Maxine Walden: agree, bleu, but sometimes we might be imagining we are in a wider reality (shared) than becomes apparent
Bleu Oleander: more often than not :)
Pema Pera: some inhabit more island realities, others perhaps more river realities or even ocean realities -- they may come in many forms :)
    Pema Pera nods at Maxine
    oO0Oo Resident: Dali Pema
Bleu Oleander: of course "my" reality is the "right" reality
Pema Pera: it reminds me of that saying "we judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their actions" :-)
    oO0Oo Resident: Dalai*
Pema Pera: I like the Dali part :)

Maxine Walden: and we may envision ourselves in an ocean reality when it really is a tiny island in the river reality....(know from personal experience :))
    oO0Oo Resident: I'm a little surreal today
    Pema Pera: :-)
    Pema Pera: hi Wester!
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Wester :)
    oO0Oo Resident: Wester :)
    Bleu Oleander: hi Wester
Maxine Walden: yes, bleu, that is such a vulnerability: that 'my reality' is THE RIGHT one
    Wester Kiranov: hi all
    Maxine Walden: hi, Wester
Bleu Oleander: feels right to me :)
    oO0Oo Resident: I'll send a notecard Wester :)

    RR_2012-01-06_WesterKiranov-3 mid.jpg

Maxine Walden: Just before coming here today, waking up I felt gripped by dread and tried to figure out why:
Maxine Walden: seemed that I was not yet feeling attentive in the way I hope to much of the time.
Maxine Walden: And it cleared very quickly when I just reconnected with that sense of quiet attention which can be so cohereing
Maxine Walden: And perhaps that quality of quiet attention is key (at least for me) in terms of being in touch with a wider reality, or one

    --BELL--

Maxine Walden: that is not deceptive

Bleu Oleander: can we ever be sure that our connection with reality is not deceptive?
    Maxine Walden: good question, bleu
Maxine Walden: maybe others have thoughts about this...

    RR_2012-01-06_Bleu Oleander-9 cu-up.jpg

    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Zen
    Zen Arado: Hi all
    Bleu Oleander: hi Zen
    Maxine Walden: hi, Zen
Wester Kiranov: i think the best we can do is actively pay attention to the ways our connection could be deceptive

    RR_2012-01-06_ElizaMadrigal-7 mid-backview.jpg

    Pema Pera: greetings, Zen!
    Wester Kiranov: hi zen
Wester Kiranov: not try to be right, but look for all ways we could be wrong
oO0Oo Resident: Maybe following that quality of attention you mentioned Maxine.. training the mind.. but I don't see people in the world holding up their hand saying "I'm enlightened now"
Eliza Madrigal: one way [added: to be wrong] might be to project that no one could possibly understand/share 'our' reality
    oO0Oo Resident: Zen :)

Bleu Oleander: I like to think that shared aspects of reality are possible
    Eliza Madrigal: nice phrasing, nods
    Wester Kiranov: possible, for sure
Wester Kiranov: what else are we doing here?
    Pema Pera: :-)
    Bleu Oleander: :)

Pema Pera: there is "real" in the sense of "direct" and "real" in the sense of "frozen"
    oO0Oo Resident: :)
Zen Arado: I notice myself defining myself to others
Zen Arado: why do I need to do that?
Wester Kiranov: I like that distinction, pema
Eliza Madrigal: :) well, from my own experience I can be somewhere but not as available as possible, in some sense... but guess that's the 'coming back'
Bleu Oleander: say more about real in the sense of frozen Pema?

    RR_2012-01-06_Bleu Oleander-12+ cu-up.jpg

Pema Pera: taken for granted, as "this is how it is"
Pema Pera: ignoring the flexibility of (views of) reality
Bleu Oleander: in the mind frozen?
    oO0Oo Resident: Island vs River?
Pema Pera: frozen as in fixed

Pema Pera: the real reality is inexhaustible
Pema Pera: so no set of words can ever catch it fully
Pema Pera: any description has to remain tentative, I think
    Pema Pera: (really!)

    Zen Arado: inexplicable, indefinable?
    Eliza Madrigal: moving target :)

Wester Kiranov: parts of it are explicable and definnable, i think
Wester Kiranov: just not the whole

    RR_2012-01-06_WesterKiranov-1.jpg

Maxine Walden: and the notion that we can capture or describe reality in words is deceptive, tho comforting to consider
Maxine Walden: It is intriguing to me that at times I unconsiously 'must' be right or Right. That is a frozen state, due more to my terror that I am wrong or rather lost inside and don't know it...
Zen Arado: something that is always changing is hard to capture

Pema Pera: perhaps we can share without capturing . . .
Pema Pera: sharing the sight of a bird for example

Bleu Oleander: like catching fire flys

    RR_2012-01-06_MaxineWhalden-4 cu.jpg

    Zen Arado: share our not-knowingness?
Zen Arado: sharing whet we see
Santoshima Resident: shared knowledge of our vulnerabilty
Maxine Walden: connecting with a quiet attention in such sharing perhaps
Eliza Madrigal: amazing exercise to try to take pictures of butterflies or birds
Wester Kiranov: showing thing to each other, and then checking if we see the same thing (and why not)
    oO0Oo Resident: :)

    RR_2012-01-06_MaxineWhalden-5 cu.jpg

    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: (confirmed by my just trying to capture a shot of Bleu holding firefly jar, and missed ) :D
    Maxine Walden: :))
    Bleu Oleander: hehe
    Pema Pera: :-)
Maxine Walden: the brief disappointment when those moments pass, Eliza
Maxine Walden: one firefly not 'captured' in mind...
Eliza Madrigal: indeed, times one throws their hands to the sky and wants someone to have seen what 'just happened'
Maxine Walden: but looks like another chance...

    RR_2012-01-06_ElizaMadrigal-6 cu.jpg

    bleu 02.png

    Eliza Madrigal: TY Bleu :))
    Bleu Oleander: :) yw
Maxine Walden: the sharing of those moments more than doubles their pleasure/value
Maxine Walden: perhaps that's part of the yearning to 'share reality'
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Bleu Oleander: connection as sharing reality
    Maxine Walden: yes
    Pema Pera: weaving reality together?
    Bleu Oleander: like collaborative art
Maxine Walden: yes, Pema, like that image of weaving

Pema Pera: reality is partly made in interactions -- a positive aspect perhaps of what Zen pointed out as us changing in the presence of others
Wester Kiranov: we all take our little threads and connect them together into a pattern?
Pema Pera: reality appreciation like art appreciation :-)
Zen Arado: I think I was 'solidifying' myself to tohers
Zen Arado: not allowing myself freedom to just be whatever I am in each moment

Pema Pera thinks about cooking recipes
Pema Pera: stir more, change temperature
    Maxine Walden: :)
    Bleu Oleander: reality soup
Zen Arado: yet I notice others doing this and still do it to myself
Zen Arado: am doing it now maybe :)
Pema Pera: so you're not fully perfect yet, Zen? :-)
Maxine Walden: our inner constraints do hold us up sometimes
Wester Kiranov: *imagines a nicely cooked tapestry*
    Zen Arado: :)
    Eliza Madrigal: hehehe
    Maxine Walden: :), wester
Zen Arado: maybe need to throw any ideas of who or what I am?
Eliza Madrigal: I just throw things out on the counter and see what wants to be picked up

Pema Pera: just wearing them lightly will do, I think, Zen :-)
    Zen Arado: wb Sam :)
    Wester Kiranov: well said pema
    Zen Arado: detachable concepts
    Zen Arado: :)
Wester Kiranov: they actually never really get attached
    Pema Pera: :-)
Wester Kiranov: you just think they are :)
Pema Pera: like the concept of a "you" :-)
    Zen Arado: a mind fastening
Maxine Walden: and when we need a very firm attachment/definition, maybe that's when things become frozen
Zen Arado: very tenacious ones :)
Wester Kiranov: pemas favourite non-concept ;)

    RR_2012-01-06_WesterKiranov-2 mid.jpg

Bleu Oleander: use velcro not gorilla glue :)
    Maxine Walden: hahaha
    Zen Arado: :)
    Eliza Madrigal grins
    Wester Kiranov: :)
    Pema Pera: :-)
    oO0Oo Resident: :)

    --BELL--

    RR_2012-01-06_WesterKiranov-4 mid.jpg

Pema Pera: any interesting dreams lately, Maxine?
    Zen Arado: slips away..bye
    Maxine Walden: :), Pema.
    Bleu Oleander: bye Zen
    Pema Pera: time slip . . . zen slip . . .
    Eliza Madrigal waves and listens
    oO0Oo Resident: Bye Zen
Maxine Walden: I've actually been having some chaotic dreams, which I think have to do with exploring that sense of feeling lost...
Maxine Walden: Re the book, the more I read the less I know....
Bleu Oleander: can identify with that!
Maxine Walden: because new thoughts emerge and take me in all sorts of divergent directions...
    Pema Pera happily co-identifies :)

Maxine Walden: And partly too, these discussions trigger new thoughts with similar outcomes
Bleu Oleander: so no talking and no reading :))
Wester Kiranov: co-identification here as well :-)

Pema Pera: I'm glad we can all help you getting more chaotic, Maxine :)
Maxine Walden: Sooo, am trying to wear lightly the 'goal' of 'getting a book written'
    Wester Kiranov: :-)
Maxine Walden: in a certain timeframe
    Maxine Walden: :)

Pema Pera: creativity at the edge of chaos?
    Maxine Walden: yes, yes, Pema
    Bleu Oleander: yes!
Maxine Walden: and maybe the slip in the email group is a part of that!! Had not thought of that before

oO0Oo Resident thinks of a wide open sky

Pema Pera: reality sends us its best regards :)

Maxine Walden: I had been wondering before today whether these discussions, or rather the interest in these discussions was winding down. It is important to ask that question. But right now I am seeing that my 'getting lost' without fully realizing that it could be creative has been an issue
Eliza Madrigal: wonderful when things come forward to be known, some missing ingredient that unlocks the whole thing
Eliza Madrigal: or next part :)
Bleu Oleander: ceaseless creativity as we explore the adjacent possible

    Pema Pera: regarding reality . . . guarding reality . . . loosing one's guard . . . re-guarding reality . . . lost & found . . . freezing and thawing . . .

oO0Oo Resident: No matter how lost or found.. or however that might be measured. I know I would want to attend meetings with you Maxine.
Maxine Walden: :)), Pema, your thread of thought just now 'captures' the essence...
Maxine Walden: Ah, O, good to hear...(am feeling more 'found' as we share just now)

Pema Pera: we're all fond of finding you feeling more found, Maxine :)
Maxine Walden: OK, from lost to found, or maybe for the moment. :)
Pema Pera: until next week perhaps?
Eliza Madrigal: available for capturing, hah
Bleu Oleander: for the moment is all we can ask for
    Pema Pera: :)

    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Multi
    Multiverse1 Resident: Hello all
    Wester Kiranov: hi multi
    Bleu Oleander: hi Multi
    Pema Pera: hi Multi
    oO0Oo Resident: Multi !
Multiverse1 Resident: is there an echo in here?

    --BELL--

    Wester Kiranov: hi lucinda
Pema Pera: midnight here, time to catch some sleep
Maxine Walden: Yes, yes, until next week. And will be careful about the email. Maybe over the week to try to send some of the threads from the 'old' email to the current one ...just to help reknit the sleeve of thought
    oO0Oo Resident: Luci !
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Luci :)
Maxine Walden: yes, time to go for me too
Eliza Madrigal: Thanks for a lovely session everyone
Multiverse1 Resident: hi and bye pema
    Wester Kiranov: bye all
    Maxine Walden: thanks all.
    Bleu Oleander: thanks Maxine :)
    Santoshima Resident: ty
    Maxine Walden: bye for now
Pema Pera: thank you Maxine for guarding and guiding us!
Bleu Oleander: bye all, take care
    oO0Oo Resident: TY Maxine
