Zen Arado: how do you differentiate a cold from flu?

Korel Laloix: You can probably take a lot of them off.. but hard to figure that out.
Korel Laloix: Don't feel like it.
Zen (zen.arado): I usually do distance learning
Zen (zen.arado): so I'm used to it
Korel Laloix: I am alrady done with most of the homework for the term.
Korel Laloix: Just writing and reading now.
Zen (zen.arado): we have RL tutorials but I sometimes don't bother going
Zen (zen.arado): doing an MA makes you self disciplined
Zen (zen.arado): you have to be for that
Zen (zen.arado): what are you studying?
Korel Laloix: Epidemiology and biostatistics.
Zen (zen.arado): I actually know what epidemiology is :)
Zen (zen.arado): study of population stats
Zen (zen.arado): I did a little of it one time
Korel Laloix: Doing a double masters.. painful, but weill set me up well I hope.
Zen (zen.arado): wow hard work
Zen (zen.arado): but in related subjects?

Korel Laloix: About 60% overlap..
Korel Laloix: But I still have to do a second thesis.
Zen (zen.arado): yeh..how many words?
Korel Laloix: Till the subject is done.
Korel Laloix: Negotiable with my review board.
Zen (zen.arado): I see
Korel Laloix: Not sure how much it will be as of yet... I turn in my first draft in a couple of weeks.
Zen (zen.arado): I had to write 18000 for philosophy MA
Zen (zen.arado): and had to keep submitting 5000 word drafts
Zen (zen.arado): it is coming up with ideas that;s the hardest
Zen (zen.arado): focused freewriting was my saviour
Zen (zen.arado): I would ask myself a question and then just write and write
Korel Laloix: I had to submit my proposal first.
Korel Laloix: Then an overall outline.
Zen (zen.arado): wrote at leats 500 words every day
Korel Laloix: Then a detailed on.
Zen (zen.arado): yes we had to do that
Korel Laloix: Part of the writing class.
Zen (zen.arado): but it changed as I worked on it
Zen (zen.arado): that happens they say
Korel Laloix: That is for sure.
Zen (zen.arado): mine turned out very differently from original porposal
Zen (zen.arado): nobody told me about freewriting until second year of MA
Zen (zen.arado): wish I had known about it years earlier
Zen (zen.arado): it would have helped me with assignments so much
Zen (zen.arado): I was always too self critical
Zen (zen.arado): cuts off creativity
Zen (zen.arado): I am more of a creative than logical thinker
Zen (zen.arado): I hate grammar and things like computer programming
Zen (zen.arado): so tedious
Korel Laloix: I at least get some extra time and consideration as ESL.
Korel Laloix: So I use that for sure.

Korel Laloix: English as a second Language
Zen (zen.arado): ah
Zen (zen.arado): they gave me extra time for exams
Zen (zen.arado): because I write so slowly
Korel Laloix: I just have to look up words for meaning and spelling a bit.
Korel Laloix: Not fun, but it works.
Korel Laloix: But writing at home is easy.
Korel Laloix: And they have some people to help review our papers for grammar and the like.

Zen (zen.arado): they are very strict on that in my creative writing course
Korel Laloix: The final products they are strickt on, but the ESL really helps on that.
Korel Laloix: I have learned so much from SL on English really.
Korel Laloix: FOrces me to think about it.
Zen (zen.arado): I help a guy with an English class in SL
Zen (zen.arado): he is from Morocco but lives in Paris
Zen (zen.arado): he prefers American English though
Zen (zen.arado): lots of differences from British English
Zen (zen.arado): both spelling and pronuncialtion
Zen (zen.arado): I learn French
Zen (zen.arado): at Intermediate level just about
Korel Laloix: I did like my one semester of French.. I did like it.
Korel Laloix: Hard though.

Zen (zen.arado): idioms are difficult
Zen (zen.arado): interesting one I learned the other day..the time 'entre chien et loup'
Zen (zen.arado): literally between the dog and the wolf
Zen (zen.arado): but it actually means dusk
Zen (zen.arado): when it is hard to tell between a dog and a wolf

Zen (zen.arado): I tried to learn French many times and gave up
