Aphrodite Macbain: Hiya
Korel Laloix smiles
Korel Laloix: Heya
Aphrodite Macbain: I think Cal is crashing
Aphrodite Macbain: how are you?
Korel Laloix: Having an intersting weekend.. but relaxing.
Aphrodite Macbain: how interesting?
Aphrodite Macbain: what have u been up to?
Korel Laloix: Well, I mentioned before, my gf is half Argentine and heavily Catholic... so her and her family are sort of in a frenzy right now...
Korel Laloix: So just watching that and being swept up into it is interesting.
Ewan Bonham: 's current display-name is "Ewan".
Aphrodite Macbain: where do they lve?
Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Ewan
Korel Laloix: Her parents live in north west Oklahoma.. but not up in the panhandle.
Korel Laloix: Heya
Ewan Bonham: hi folks..
Aphrodite Macbain: are her parents in Argentina?
Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Cal
Korel Laloix: No, OK... her dad is from there, her mom is Commanche
Korel Laloix: hyea
Aphrodite Macbain: Hi CalHow are things Ewan? glad you made it.
Ewan Bonham: ty..always nice to be here...
Aphrodite Macbain: Dont they approve Kori?
Korel Laloix: Very much so.
Korel Laloix: Probably too much.
Aphrodite Macbain: Oh good
Aphrodite Macbain: ?
Korel Laloix: Reading about some of the controversies around him.
Korel Laloix: Seems people have issues with him becuase he was not one of the 150 preists murdered during a certain period in Argentine history.
Ewan Bonham: Who are you speaking about?
Aphrodite Macbain: Do they wish he had been mirdered?
Korel Laloix: So I guess the theory is... if he did not get killed, he must be bad.
Korel Laloix: or was complicit.
Korel Laloix: Talking about the new Pope.
Aphrodite Macbain: somewhat simplistic
Korel Laloix: I dont' know enough about the subject to make an educated talk on it though.
Korel Laloix: But Reeba is beside herself.
Ewan Bonham: The new Pope involved in murder?
Korel Laloix: Some people think that since he survived, he must be dirty.
Aphrodite Macbain: He is accused of looking away rather than doing any thing
Korel Laloix: I do not have the details.
Aphrodite Macbain: During the terrible times in Argentina when people were disaopeared
Korel Laloix: But will look it up.
Aphrodite Macbain: a very right wing military government ran the show and killled many dissdent
Aphrodite Macbain: s
Korel Laloix: Regardless, Reeb'as family is really enjoyhing the moment.
Korel Laloix: So happy for them all.
Aphrodite Macbain: and they accuse the church of not doing anything about it
--BELL--
Ewan Bonham: How does one get elected Pope with all that baggage?
Aphrodite Macbain: Who knows. I think it is b/c the majority of Catholics in the world live in S America.
Korel Laloix: Is it baggage or just people hating?
Aphrodite Macbain: No idea.
Korel Laloix: Hating survivors seems to be a popular past time.
Aphrodite Macbain: Perhaps neither
Ewan Bonham: I guess I would think there would be cleaner candidates... but perhaps npot..
Aphrodite Macbain: noone is "clean"
Korel Laloix: And who is to say he is not clean?
Ewan Bonham: Perhaps like annything else, it isstrictly cut throat political..
Calvino Rabeni: Let those who are without ...
Aphrodite Macbain: I think it was political - first pope not from Europe
Korel Laloix: There have been a few not from Europe.
Aphrodite Macbain: and representing the majority of catholics
Aphrodite Macbain: who KOri?
Korel Laloix: Syria, Egypt and one other country so i understand.
Korel Laloix: But long ago.
Aphrodite Macbain: Ah didnt know that
Korel Laloix: Will look it up.. now I am interested.
Korel Laloix: Just going on what Reeba has told me.
Aphrodite Macbain: It was a major news item for about 5 days on Canadian news
Aphrodite Macbain: watching people waiting for white smoke
Korel Laloix: I think it is intersting.
Aphrodite Macbain: It is
Aphrodite Macbain: not sure whether it should dominate the news for 5 days
Aphrodite Macbain: How was Australia's respnse Cal?
Korel Laloix: Well, there are 1.2 billion of them.
Calvino Rabeni: Anything can dominate the news that long regardless of importance :)
Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
Ewan Bonham: Well why not... other unimportant stuff has... get mileage from it....
Aphrodite Macbain: I got tired of tuning in and just watching crowds wait
Calvino Rabeni: White smoke or black smoke .. I wonder what they were smoking?
Korel Laloix: Lots of Popes from AFrica, Syria and Isreal/Palistine and one from what is probably moder n day Iran.
Aphrodite Macbain: me too! It seems like such a mystical ancient ritual.
Korel Laloix: And many don't have known birth places.
Calvino Rabeni: Yes I like that about it
Aphrodite Macbain: cool
Korel Laloix: Evidently..
Korel Laloix: ABout the smoke.
Korel Laloix: If there is no decision, they burn the ballots.
Korel Laloix: So the smoke is black.
Aphrodite Macbain: what makes it white?
Korel Laloix: If there is a decisions, the ballots are kept and something else is burned to make white smoke.
Korel Laloix: No idea what that is.
Korel Laloix: Will look it up.. smiles
Aphrodite Macbain: go to Google when in doubt
Korel Laloix: Dogpile.
Korel Laloix: Google sucks.
Aphrodite Macbain: amazing names
Aphrodite Macbain: the theme this week is appreciating the appearance of being...
Aphrodite Macbain: we took it apart at the 1pm session
Calvino Rabeni: That's "Mr. Google" to the children at Lucinda's preschool
Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
Calvino Rabeni: I hope someone remembered how to put it back together again :)
Ewan Bonham: Lol
Aphrodite Macbain: :-) we decided it simply meant "see things as they are"
Calvino Rabeni: Learned "take it apart" at 4, but the next year, figured out the reverse might be a good way to stay out of trouble :)
Aphrodite Macbain: Pema likes to make things complicatedly playful!
Korel Laloix: That is a good thing I think.. smiles
Aphrodite Macbain: humpty dumpty syndrome
Korel Laloix: What does that mean?
Aphrodite Macbain: humpty dumpty sat on a wall
Aphrodite Macbain: humpty dumpty had a great fall
Aphrodite Macbain: all the kings horses and all the kings men
Korel Laloix is looking it up
Aphrodite Macbain: couldn't put humpty together again
--BELL--
Aphrodite Macbain: whispers- off to eat dinner
Korel Laloix: Potasium Chloride for white smoke I think..
Korel Laloix: Looked up Humpty Dumpty... had heard that before, but reget looking it up now.... smiles
Calvino Rabeni: Some say those kids rhymes are actually secret coded political messages
Korel Laloix: Oh do tell.
Calvino Rabeni: so perhaps I would regret it too
Korel Laloix: I just looked up the youtube vids.
Calvino Rabeni: A way to say things publically without losing one's head
Ewan Bonham: Hmmm...what did they say?
Korel Laloix: I do wonder about their origions.
Korel Laloix: But not enough to actually look it up... smiles
Calvino Rabeni: Ring around the rosie .. .. ashes ashes all fall down ..
Calvino Rabeni: may have been about the black plague
Calvino Rabeni: or so rumor has it
Korel Laloix: We do read about the Ring Around the Rosey one in Epidemiology classes.
Korel Laloix: Very grim to think of.
Calvino Rabeni: it is a mark of infection I suppose
Korel Laloix: But think about it this way, if you lived in a plagued place in Europe five hundred years ago, one in five people you knew would dye of it on averge.
Calvino Rabeni: Funny that is the one that I thought of .. you being knowlegable in that area
Korel Laloix: Or there is evidence that entire First American tribes were whiped out by Small Pox or Plague.
Ewan Bonham: Yes, when the Spanish first landed..
Calvino Rabeni: I wish there were some accurate numbers for the population of first nations
Korel Laloix: Different insertion points.
Korel Laloix: Spanish south.
Korel Laloix: English, Dutch, French, Portuquese as well.
Korel Laloix: So different strains and different diseases.
Calvino Rabeni: I haven't heard the figures but somehow I wouldn't be surprised to know that the land was fully inhabited near its carrying capacity
Korel Laloix: It probably was not.. very low birth rates, lots of wars.
Korel Laloix: And some of the Americas are just not inhabitable without technology of some sort.
Calvino Rabeni: I see, other factors were limits?
Ewan Bonham: Yes, indeed..
Calvino Rabeni: the southwest had long term changes in rainfall
Korel Laloix: We have statistically low birth rates.
Calvino Rabeni: I found Chaco Canyon impressive, but don't remember if it was really known why it was abandoned
Korel Laloix: So the idea that people that breed faster than you should enjoy more of the words is offensive to us.
Calvino Rabeni: that makes sense
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: We were pushed out of our traditional lands by peopel that bred a lot fasther than we did back in the expansionist Eupean Americas days..
Korel Laloix: And now peopel want to do it again.
Korel Laloix: They see our lands that are not overun, overcrowded and over developed and want to take them away ...again.
Calvino Rabeni: The habit or ability of breeding and developing isn't a good basis for moral rights
Korel Laloix: Oh I agree.
Calvino Rabeni: It seems people conflict from what they want and forget everything beyond that
Korel Laloix: Breeding might makes right is the version of morals these days.
Korel Laloix: But that is my rant.
Ewan Bonham: Lol...breeding...interesting if that is physical or breeding of thoughts..
Korel Laloix: Making population your cultural resources can not sustain.
Korel Laloix: But that is another arguement.
Calvino Rabeni: going out on a limb with eyes closed
Korel Laloix: It is a touchy subject for sure.
Korel Laloix: Anyway, Iam off for a bit of shopping.
Korel Laloix: Take care all
Korel Laloix: Thanks for teh chat.
Calvino Rabeni: touchy yes
Calvino Rabeni: yw Korel
Calvino Rabeni: I have a bit of shopping too
Korel Laloix: Ciao
Calvino Rabeni: Bye Ewan
