The Guardian for this meeting was Xirana Oximoxi. The comments are by Xirana Oximoxi.
Xirana Oximoxi: 's current display-name is "Xirana".
Eliza Madrigal: 's current display-name is "Eliza".
--BELL--
Xirana Oximoxi: hello Eliza! :-)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Xiri :) How's the day so far?
Xirana Oximoxi: it's fine, thank you:) and yours?
Eliza Madrigal: Just waking actually... slept in... wild dreams
Eliza Madrigal sipping coffee
Xirana Oximoxi: ahh:)) 'wild' in what sense??
Xirana Oximoxi: :-)
Eliza Madrigal: just the feeling of them... outdoorsy, unkempt, lots of rough - cracked or decaying materials
Xirana Oximoxi: oh..then it seems not fun
Eliza Madrigal: it wasn't scary or unfun... but had its own texture for sure
Eliza Madrigal: no real plot that I recall, but as dreams do, it is fading away already leaving just a few impressions :)
Xirana Oximoxi: yes...it usually happens to me too...not easy to remember, but the feeelings are longer
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Xirana Oximoxi: I've been reading a book ' The Storyteller' ..it's related to Holocaust and I've been having 'hard' dreams to...even if I just remember some images....
Eliza Madrigal: listening
Xirana Oximoxi: my dreams..if I try to find out..usually are very related to some things I've read or seen in TV..the day before
Eliza Madrigal nods often like a soup of images
Eliza Madrigal: or ideas
Xirana Oximoxi: yes
Eliza Madrigal: yet we can come to surprising insights like that too, even using familiar images
Xirana Oximoxi: I can not explain my dreams like they were a 'story'...and most of the time I don't remember them at all
Eliza Madrigal: a few days ago, I made a vegetable stew early in the morning, then went back to bed...
Eliza Madrigal: I dreamt that there was a party and a storm (there was a storm going on outside) and the party was interrupted, scattering people everywhere
Eliza Madrigal: but I was hungry....
Zen Arado: 's current display-name is "Zen".
Eliza Madrigal: so in the dream I snuck into the kitchen, but the kitchen was also a bedroom with a couple sleeping in it....
Eliza Madrigal: and he woke up, and said "she's trying to have some stew..."
Xirana Oximoxi: :)
Xirana Oximoxi: hello Zen:)
Eliza Madrigal giggles.... so I realized my subconscious is a couple
Xirana Oximoxi: we are talking about dreams today
Zen Arado: Hi Xirana and Eliza :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Zen :)
Eliza Madrigal: I wanted to keep sleeping, and I wanted to have stew
Eliza Madrigal: so strange.... the way mind represented that guarding against waking up with the couple in bed
Xirana Oximoxi: yes...did you find an explanation? or try to find why?
Zen Arado: ty Xiri but it's blank
Xirana Oximoxi: ohh sorry
Eliza Madrigal: Oh no... in the dream I left the stew alone and then slowly woke up
Zen Arado: :)
Zen Arado: like me :)
Eliza Madrigal: :P
Zen Arado: kk better
Xirana Oximoxi: do you use dreams into your writings Zen?
Eliza Madrigal: "thoughts as things"
Zen Arado: hmm not really
Xirana Oximoxi: the drawings I did about 'thoughts' are a kind of materialisation of thoughts...maybe :))
--BELL--
Zen Arado: I tend to dream about things that are happening in RL
Eliza Madrigal: when we wake it is hard to believe the thoughts we were having and touching and feeling were not real things
Xirana Oximoxi: maybe the feelings were real
Eliza Madrigal: I love those drawings Xiri... the ones I am thinking of that are like ink...?
Xirana Oximoxi: are real
Eliza Madrigal: True
Xirana Oximoxi: yes...the ink ones
Eliza Madrigal: so playful
Eliza Madrigal: poignant too but I can't say why
Eliza Madrigal: Can you tell me a bit about "The Storyteller" Xiri?
Xirana Oximoxi: it's the story of a girl that finds out that an 'old friend of her was a SS nazi... and she is a jew.. ..it's a complex story about how afront this knowledge when her grandmother had been in a concentration 'camp'
Eliza Madrigal: this is a recently written book?
Xirana Oximoxi: http://jodipicoult.com/the-storyteller.html
Xirana Oximoxi: yes
Zen Arado: I'm going to try a new approach to abstracts
Eliza Madrigal: tough subject... there are layers of feelings like what one thinks they 'should' feel, and what they do feel, and what they want to feel....
Xirana Oximoxi: a friend recommended the book and it's very well written
Eliza Madrigal: thanks
Xirana Oximoxi: you're welcome :)
Xirana Oximoxi: good Zen.. I like your abstracts paintings very much
Eliza Madrigal: new materials Zen?
Zen Arado: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater
Zen Arado: Gerhard Richter
Zen Arado: from blurred photos
Zen Arado: going to try that
Eliza Madrigal: " Richter has stated that abstract paintings ‘visualise a reality which we can neither see nor describe but which we may nevertheless conclude to exist’.” (tate.org.uk) "
Xirana Oximoxi: I can't wait to see yours :))
Zen Arado: I haven't painted for ages
Eliza Madrigal: it is beautiful... evocative of tree bark but also scrubbed metal...
Zen Arado: but will finish writing course soon
Xirana Oximoxi: I am thinking lately..that abstract paintings can 'say' much more than realistic ones...
Eliza Madrigal: maybe that is due to fashion of the time in some sense.... in between abstract and realism there is also the surreal
Zen Arado: I like the painting but can't say why
Zen Arado: it seems like reflections
Eliza Madrigal: It would probably look quite different "live"
Eliza Madrigal: I wonder
Zen Arado: it's large
Zen Arado: very large
Xirana Oximoxi: we have been talking a little about 'isms' in our French chat...and in my view, they are useful to study the Art history... but there have been surrealistic or abstract painters all long of the art history..
Zen Arado: 350 cm = 10 feet and more
Xirana Oximoxi: yes...very large
Zen Arado: Elinor asked me for a subject but I don't know what to say
Eliza Madrigal: what is the earliest you can think of, re early abstract artists?
--BELL--
Zen Arado: perhaps art history again?
Xirana Oximoxi: ahhh the prehistoric painting in Altamira are 'abstract paintings for me:)
Xirana Oximoxi: simbolic too
Zen Arado: I did a module in an art history course called 'The Avant Garde'
Zen Arado: they started with Courbet
Xirana Oximoxi: http://www.españaalacarta.com/img/pa.../altamira6.jpg
Zen Arado: then Manet
Eliza Madrigal: ah, of course (though link not working for me)
Xirana Oximoxi: oh! moment
Zen Arado: heh Duchamp
Xirana Oximoxi: http://www.españaalacarta.com/img/pa.../altamira6.jpg
Xirana Oximoxi: http://www.españaalacarta.com/patrim...-rupestre.html
Xirana Oximoxi: I was trying to send the first foto
Eliza Madrigal: maybe it is an issue of country, not able to open :(
Xirana Oximoxi: noo..me either...can you try last link?
Eliza Madrigal: still :(
Xirana Oximoxi: ohh so strange
Zen Arado: moi non plus
Xirana Oximoxi: https://www.google.es/search?q=altam...w=1920&bih=950
Xirana Oximoxi: this one is google
Xirana Oximoxi: I hope it works:)
Eliza Madrigal: there, perfect
Zen Arado: Gauguin is interesting
Zen Arado: perhaps we can study him?
Xirana Oximoxi: oui:)
Zen Arado: he has early work in Brittany I remember before he went to south seas
Zen Arado: Yellow Christ
Zen Arado: http://www.artbible.info/art/large/790.html
Eliza Madrigal: "The painting seems to exist out of compartments with a single colour, heavily outlined. The technique is called cloissonism, after a French word for compartments".
Eliza Madrigal: suppose same root as cloister
Eliza Madrigal: (sorry, the wordy in me starts tracing...hah)
Zen Arado: cluster
Zen Arado: :)
Zen Arado: I have a fascination with words too
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Xirana Oximoxi: :)...you are a writer:) and Eliza too:)
Zen Arado: art history is all -isms
Eliza Madrigal: I've been packing paintings and throwing some out... taking pictures of the ones I want to remember but not keep....
Eliza Madrigal: years ago I used to paint simple things for fun... this is the front of the house I've moving out of now, when we first moved in
Zen Arado: did you paint that Eliza?
Eliza Madrigal: mhm
Xirana Oximoxi: don't throw them out!!...you can use it to paint over..I usually do:)
Zen Arado: nice
Zen Arado: me too
Xirana Oximoxi: very nice
Eliza Madrigal: well right now I just need to be ruthless
Zen Arado: have 4 paintings on each canvas :)
Eliza Madrigal: about paring down, although I was amazed to find out how long oil paints last
Eliza Madrigal: my daughter though, said she would be really happy if I went back to that
Zen Arado: pastels last longer they say
Xirana Oximoxi: hehe yes...me too...and sometimes I like to have the 'texture' below...it gives more 'personality to the paitning
Zen Arado: less binder more pigment
Zen Arado: yes
Eliza Madrigal: :) Bleu says she paints all her canvases red first
Zen Arado: I have to sandpaper them sometimes
Zen Arado: great for landscapes
Zen Arado: helps the green
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Zen Arado: I took a photo in a checkout in a supermarket and blurred it
Zen Arado: going to use that to paint from
Eliza Madrigal: great idea
Xirana Oximoxi: I also like to have a backgound colour...but never tried with red
--BELL--
Xirana Oximoxi: always new possibilities to explore
Eliza Madrigal: :) indeed
Eliza Madrigal keeps waiting for Zen's picture to rezz... giggle
Zen Arado: it's portrait format from iPhone
Xirana Oximoxi: hehe it is 'blurred' Eliza:))
Zen Arado: so much colour in supermarkets
Eliza Madrigal: ^^
Eliza Madrigal: I think I see Zen the avie standing at the check out talking with a woman at a register
Archmage Atlantis: 's current display-name is "Arch".
Xirana Oximoxi: hehe yes!! :-)
Eliza Madrigal: (the blurred photo lets one read into images so much)
Zen Arado: nope I am sitting electric wheelchair taking photo
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: have you decided what you will do with stories yet Zen?
Zen Arado: no
Zen Arado: have to polish them
Eliza Madrigal: someone recently started posting chapters from an old blog on FB to share with friends
Eliza Madrigal: have really enjoyed reading them
Zen Arado: blogs feel more raw
Archmage Atlantis: 's current display-name is "Arch".
Zen Arado: just thoughts really
Zen Arado: not sure I want to put stories on one
Zen Arado: after all that work
Eliza Madrigal nods... suppose it will come clear to you
Zen Arado: not that important
Eliza Madrigal: I'm supersitious - feel that if I don't share things inspiration won't continue to flow
Zen Arado: it's the doing is the fun
Zen Arado: I'm never was great at self promotion
Xirana Oximoxi: the process is really important... where we have real challenges
Xirana Oximoxi: when it's finished... well...quick to look for more stories :)
