    Deep questions.

Mellie McMinnar: 's current display-name is "Mellie".
    Mellie McMinnar: Hi
DR42 Resident: 's current display-name is "Maude - Marjorie Chardin".
Jacob Neutron: 's current display-name is "Jack".
    Storm Nordwind: Hello
    DR42 Resident: ηαмαѕтє
    Jacob Neutron: hello
Jacob Neutron: i can't stay long, but i could not say no to Mellie :)
Mellie McMinnar: so, using as many special characters as you can.... I see
Storm Nordwind: Why, what did she ask of you?
Jacob Neutron: to follow her here
Jacob Neutron: as many special character as you can ?
Mellie McMinnar: you claimed to be deep.... so I took you to a deep place :) you can ask your questions here
Jacob Neutron: i never claimed i was deep
Jacob Neutron: i just said i searched for "philosophy"
Jacob Neutron: anyone who claims to be deep is not deep to begin with
Storm Nordwind: Have you not been here before Jack?
Jacob Neutron: not that i remember storm
Storm Nordwind: Ah. We record and publish conversations made here. Are you willing for your presence and words to be published?
    Jacob Neutron: published ?
Jacob Neutron: you mean in rl?
    DR42 Resident: I am.
Storm Nordwind: They appear on our wiki
Storm Nordwind: It is here: https://wiki.playasbeing.org
Mellie McMinnar: Jack I took you here because this is your chance to ask a really deep question..... you wanted that
    Jacob Neutron: thank you Mellie
Jacob Neutron: but I really have no deep questions to ask, but
Jacob Neutron: i have to say
Jacob Neutron: i like the idea of the discussions and the wiki
Jacob Neutron: quite original, in many ways
Storm Nordwind: So you are willing to be included in that wiki?
Storm Nordwind: It's our normal practice to ask newcomers :)
Jacob Neutron: by being included you mean adding Jack Neutron to the list of people who come here and record what he says ?
    Storm Nordwind: yes.
Mellie McMinnar: he already said yes.... but i am curious.... shat would you do if someone said "no"?
    --BELL--
Storm Nordwind: I haven't heard Jack say yes yet.
Jacob Neutron: yes, of course, no problem
Storm Nordwind: Thank you Jack. :)
Jacob Neutron: but as I said when i got here, rl is calling and I need to go
Storm Nordwind: We hold meetings here every six hours
Storm Nordwind: Please return another tme if you so wish. :)
Jacob Neutron: yes, I saw that on the wiki
    Jacob Neutron: I will return
Mellie McMinnar: but sometimes there is nobody here
Storm Nordwind: I am here at this time every week. But there are many others!
Storm Nordwind: And some vacant times, yes
Jacob Neutron: and if there's nobody I will ask myself easy questions, so I will feel good about being able to answer
Storm Nordwind: After five years of running these sessions, sometimes people need a break! ;-)
Mellie McMinnar: Jack, this is your chance to ask a really deep question
Jacob Neutron: Mellie, darling, there are no such things as deep questions
Jacob Neutron: deep as well as difficult or shallow or easy, it is a matter of perception
    Mellie McMinnar: meh
Jacob Neutron: but we can talk about it some other time
Mellie McMinnar: there are deep questions
Storm Nordwind: Bye for now Jack. :)
Jacob Neutron: bye Storm, thank you for welcoming me here
    Storm Nordwind: My pleasure.
Jacob Neutron: Hopefully, we will meet soon
    Storm Nordwind nods and smiles

    Mellie is angry.

Mellie McMinnar: I am a bit angry
Mellie McMinnar: I showed him Svarga, Trolex Island and this place.... because he didn't know much about SL.... and now he went away (he isn't offline) and he thanked YOU
Mellie McMinnar: I am nice to everybody and I help if I can.... Am I a bad person for wanting to get some thanks?
Storm Nordwind: No. No one is judging you as good or bad here. Though it appears to me that you are not happy.
    Mellie McMinnar: I am not
    --BELL--
DR42 Resident: You are not bad because you expressed your emotions. If anything, you might reflect upon your expectations and consider adjusting them.
DR42 Resident: Well, that is what I would do. You are you.
Mellie McMinnar: it's my experience..... I brought him here because he told me that he liked deep thoughts..... I met people who told me that I am their "best friend".... and then I never heard of them again...... this is SL
DR42 Resident: In SL, most social norms do not apply, or so some people think.
Mellie McMinnar: " or so some people think"? --- no..... it's the norm
DR42 Resident: In the parts of SL that I visit, polite matters.
Mellie McMinnar: we are all just graphics and telling someone that they are your best friend, is like a click in a video game

    What is friendship?

Storm Nordwind: People hide behind their screens and often act in ways online that they would not elsewhere. On the other hand, I've always believed that, for me at least, courtesy costs nothing - though that doesn't mean it's worth nothing! :)
Mellie McMinnar: anf friendship meand nothing
DR42 Resident: One of the groups I am part of in SL has a secret Facebook group, and we share our RL names. I have made a number of RL friends fron that group.
Storm Nordwind: What would you like friendship to mean, Mellie?
Storm Nordwind: Yes that can work sometimes, Maude, when trust builds up. :)
Mellie McMinnar: Storm: if I went offline for some month, I would expect "friends" to ask me what is wrong
Storm Nordwind: How would you feel if they didn't?
    --BELL--
Mellie McMinnar: they didn't and that is where my conclusion comes from
DR42 Resident: How would you like to see the norm change?
Mellie McMinnar: to be more into eachother
Mellie McMinnar: ok, I have to go to sleep now....--- and you two will log off too
Storm Nordwind: I can't speak for Maude, but I probably will, yes!
DR42 Resident: Do you think that is a reasonable expectation? The insular behaviour on the net existed long before SL, or even the Internet. It goes back to ArpaNet.
DR42 Resident: It's 11 AM and I have chores to do.
Mellie McMinnar: so you are totally smart and you have to go now? what I said
    Mellie McMinnar: bye you two
DR42 Resident: I'll sit here as long as you do.
    Storm Nordwind: Bye Mellie
    DR42 Resident: Bye.

    We sit mostly quietly.

DR42 Resident: This is only my third time here. How long does recording continue for?
Storm Nordwind: It continues until the last guardian leaves. Or the hosting guardian switches off the recorder. It's automatic with manual override.
    DR42 Resident: OK.
Storm Nordwind: (Actually I think till the attendee leaves. But I forget the trigger. I usually stay!)
    --BELL--
Storm Nordwind looks at Maude's tag and recalls he hasn't coded in Algol for 40 years! :)
DR42 Resident: Well, it was Algol 60 for me, not 68.
    Storm Nordwind: Me too
DR42 Resident: Time for me to depart. Bye.
Storm Nordwind: Bye Maude. Nice to see you :)
DR42 Resident: I will return. Hopefully we will have interesting disacussione some timer.
