PaB Celebration

Pema Pera: Thanks, Adams, for your suggestions concerning the PaB celebrations, one and a half week from now

Pema Pera: well, I got a crazy idea myself . . . .
Adams Rubble: I think it would be nice for the newer guardians to get a taste of the teahouse

Pema Pera: . . . . I would like to attend all 28 sessions, for a full week, during the last week of the first year of PaB :)

Adams Rubble: Yes. I have read a good number of the sessions through December

Adams Rubble: it takes me two days for a month if I can spend about 8 hours on it

Pema Pera: oh no, not slow at all: a month has well over a hundred sessions! So typically more than a hundred hours of chatting; and even though we can read much faster than we can type, I would guess that speed up things by a factor of five or so -- leaving still twenty hours
Pema Pera: So 16 hours with the heavy lifting is fast!
Pema Pera is very impressed, contemplating Adams with a candle and a laptop, working away in an attic somewhere . . . .
Adams Rubble: I have not been able to see too much in the way of general patterns

Pema Pera: the funny thing is, we've never advertised our existence in any particular way
Pema Pera: it has all been word to mouth

Pema Pera: For Kira, in contrast, we do send out notices, lots of them

Qt Core: so even if people don't like it they wont disrupt it in respect of their friend, good policy
Pema Pera: yes, generally people who don't quite fit in here either don't come back after a few visits, or they adapt to the atmosphere
Pema Pera: remarkably, that has worked well for a whole year now!
Pema Pera: apart from a few very obvious grievers, with loud music etc, we never had to send anyone away
Qt Core: me too, i think i'm a little less ingrained in the meditative things but i like here nonetheless
Pema Pera: yes, not everybody here is particularly involved with contemplation or meditation
Pema Pera: in fact, starting with science is a great angle too
Pema Pera: and enough in itself
Qt Core: but i'm interested in talking about mind and how to use it (or at least mine), so not very different

Qt Core: i think i already do something like that when i stop for a moment to work and regroup ideas, not just the work ones

Qt Core: i;m a programmer so having some control of my mind is quite needed

Adams Rubble: Some people have said that is like meditation
Qt Core: when nobody interrupt you and you can focus yes
Adams Rubble: I have only did a little and for me it was just stressful :)
Qt Core: for me the stress is not doing it ;-)

Qt Core: like writing docs, teaching to colleagues, and such
Qt Core: don't know, i only think i give it more mental resources
Qt Core: i think that especially now that i have some family problems and i feel i'm less productive

Adams Rubble: I am a believer in the idea we must exercise all parts of our brain and I think programming sits in an unused part of mine

Qt Core: many human activities reqiore planning and programming is just one of them, even cooking has the same issues

Qt Core: (i had to choose between programming and cooking as a study path and career)
Adams Rubble: interesting choice :)
Adams Rubble: I would be in trouble with that one myself because I am not good at either
Qt Core: i was egoist and i chose programming (i don't like the idea of cooking and don't eat it)
Adams Rubble: I am good at the eating part. hehe
Adams Rubble: It is not the prganizational part of programming that is the problem for me
Qt Core: mmm, i just realized that i never checled if there are places and resources about cooking here in sl
Adams Rubble: I am sure there are many :)
Qt Core: oh yes, i have yet to find something not present in sl ;-)

Adams Rubble: I have experienced the feeling of some tasks being like meditation but then I find I still need to stop from them to or I start to burn myself out

Qt Core: i thinks in many cases is just being incredulous that something could be done so easy
Qt Core: and thinking about all the thinks that need to happen to do it
