Pema Pera: Has spring arrived in Helsinki?
Fael Illyar: Looks more like summer already :)
Pema Pera: oh, that's nice!
Susi Alcott: in Turku we have not spring; summer hits after winter
Fael Illyar: :)
Pema Pera: In Princeton we often have the same: a direct transition from winter to summer . . .
Fael Illyar: It's quite interesting :)
Fael Illyar: I've been remembering my visit from time to time :)
Fael Illyar: It really is a nice place there.
Pema Pera: yes, you came in a nice time of year, the best time really -- fall is always pleasant in Princeton
Pema Pera: summers are humid and too hot to be comfortable, and winters a bit too cold, mostly -- but perhaps not for you :)
Fael Illyar is used to winters where the usual temperature is around -20℃
Susi Alcott: many finnish ppl suffer for winter...
Fael Illyar: anything milder and it just feels warm :)
Pema Pera: do you think that that is related to the great interest in internet and general IT activities in Finland?
Susi Alcott: also the most hot time on July as it's been late years
Pema Pera: the long dark winters
Fael Illyar: could very well be :)
Susi Alcott: well; thinking that finnish ppl are specially curious
Susi Alcott: and more than willing to test and learn
Fael Illyar: I prefer staying inside the house during winter at least :)
Pema Pera: that's interesting, Susi, why do you think that is?
Susi Alcott: my french friend, who's teacher, told that in Finland there's the best learning in schools
Susi Alcott: well; observed much
Susi Alcott: but we sadly have much 'brain lost' cuz them ppl move abroad
Susi Alcott: as Finland is expensive country and not so good payments that on many other counties
Susi Alcott: we are so small nation
Susi Alcott: but yes; like children; willing to test 'everthing'
Susi Alcott: and there's even such word that nobody has been able to translate to any lanugage
Susi Alcott: 'sisu'
Fael Illyar: and big taxes on top of that.
Susi Alcott: yet
Susi Alcott: yes
Pema Pera: sisu?
Susi Alcott: in english that would be something like ppl use to say that somebody has 'balls'
Pema Pera: :)
Susi Alcott: but that's so mild word
Pema Pera: a bit like macho?
Fael Illyar: no, not macho
Susi Alcott: npe
Susi Alcott: nope
Susi Alcott: well; try to 'explane'
Susi Alcott: we are willing to stand on our own feet against even the whole wide world
Susi Alcott: but not the goverment we have chooced
Pema Pera: ah, that gives me some sense
Susi Alcott: and we prefer die that to be the slave
Susi Alcott: we fight against hard nature, but we love to take care of it too
Susi Alcott: 'never give up'....
Susi Alcott: that's 'sisu' :)
Fael Illyar: Well, it's a good thing not everyone uses that for everything ;)
Pema Pera: remarkable that such a short word has such rich implications :)
Susi Alcott: but yes; when we see the true need and that our help is fruitfull; we give our all
Susi Alcott: more there's explonations to our 'word' 'tä' :)
Pema Pera: even shorter!
Susi Alcott: only two letters, but it can mean sentencies
Susi Alcott: but very different kind ; depending on the tone of the way how to say it
Susi Alcott: that's something I've teached to many foreigne persons to use :)
Susi Alcott: btw; did you know that there's special love 'between' japanese ppl and finnish ppl ?
Pema Pera: really?
Susi Alcott: yes
Susi Alcott: there's also special unions for the 'interactivity' between Japan and Finland
Susi Alcott: well; there's much differencies...but like they would 'fill' each other
Fael Illyar: It's funny how I've been interested in Japanese culture and langauge (well, at least part of the culture) but never really found out about those.
Susi Alcott: like japanese ppl show there pride, but we let it to 'shine' into our self, and bend our head
Pema Pera: can you say a bit more about that, Susi?
Susi Alcott: as we have been 'alone' among he nature', but japanese ppl has been 'alone' in the crowd of ppl
Susi Alcott: as we are pride, very pride, but we keep that to be force to ourself; not feel that over other ppl
Susi Alcott: we dont want to use pride that way
Susi Alcott: to show it
Pema Pera: ah, I see.
Susi Alcott: but also japanese ppl want to hide there pain; just similarity
Pema Pera: I had never heard of that, but yes, it makes sense
Pema Pera: well, it is almost dinner time here, I'll have to move on
