stevenaia Michinaga: in the middle of a backup so I may be lagging a bit
Pema Pera: yes, I just noticed that. No idea what that is
Pema Pera: yes, I just noticed that. No idea what that is
I later figured it out: it had to do with the wifi firewall being too strict, in my hotel in Paris.
    Pila Mulligan: an echo
Pema Pera: let me log out and in again, to see whether that repairs things
Pema Pera: let me log out and in again, to see whether that repairs things

    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: Pema is the GoC
Pila Mulligan: I have never seen it, ever, in SL or elsewhere
Pila Mulligan: have you offended any government ig shots? space aliens? Lindens?
    Pila Mulligan: big hsots*
    Pila Mulligan: shots*
    Pila Mulligan: ok
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Pila Mulligan: Steve, did you notice the Obamas went to a show in NYC tonite
stevenaia Michinaga: no, this was in the afternoon, Price William was in town as well and we avioded running into him too
Pila Mulligan: auspicious day for shows
stevenaia Michinaga: the weather was perfect
Pila Mulligan: they went to see 'Joe Turner’s Come and Gone'
    Pila Mulligan: phone call
stevenaia Michinaga: uppose they jsut flew in for the show... ok
    Pila Mulligan: and dinner
    stevenaia Michinaga: enjoy
stevenaia Michinaga: I would ahve loves to see Saki's presentation today, if it gets posted to the web, please forward it to te group, Pema
Pila Mulligan: I watched it live, it was good
Pema Pera: I presume the Metaverse U will put up the whole meeting on its web site soon
Pema Pera: I presume the Metaverse U will put up the whole meeting on its web site soon
Pila Mulligan: I spent part of the afternoon violating my ethical preferences -- spraying Roundup
Pila Mulligan: I've never liked using poisons
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, it requires careful consideration, what derserved its wrath?
Pila Mulligan: grass that encroaches into the gravel drveway
stevenaia Michinaga: I have issues with poisen Ivy
Pila Mulligan: need to od it about every 8 or 9 months
Pila Mulligan: yep, I'd spray poison ivya also
Pila Mulligan: if you let the grass go here it eventually turns the driveway into mud
stevenaia Michinaga: we do treat our lawn with things a bit more friendly, so says the service that takes care of it
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: I'd be curious ti hear what they use
    Pila Mulligan: to*
I head come back, but was still trying this and that, so was silent for a while.
    stevenaia Michinaga: speak Pema
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Pila Mulligan: hello hello
    Pila Mulligan: :) :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: hmm
Pila Mulligan: no that is odd
    Pila Mulligan: now*
    Pila Mulligan: yes
stevenaia Michinaga: and then it returned
stevenaia Michinaga: what did yiou do?
Pila Mulligan: yes, how did you get the first one to be okay?
Pila Mulligan: whatever, he's gonme off to do it som emore it seems
stevenaia Michinaga: did you notice the chime doesn;t chime in on the 1/4 hour tonight?
Pila Mulligan: can Pema approach singularity?
    stevenaia Michinaga: speak Pema
    stevenaia Michinaga: nope
    Pila Mulligan: not yet
stevenaia Michinaga: have you ever had a studder Pema?
Pila Mulligan: have you gotten any help yet?
    Pila Mulligan: they would :)
Pila Mulligan: then try hopping on one foot, rubbing your belly and patting your head
    stevenaia Michinaga: works for me
Pila Mulligan: yes, but you do tai chi Steve :)
    Pila Mulligan: test x2
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, a slow but relaxing process
    stevenaia Michinaga: learning :)
Pila Mulligan: from a forum pema: "Multiple chat lines appear only when using VPN. Obiously additional open ports pass the same messages in excess. Without VPN activated SL works just fine."
    Pila Mulligan: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-1201
    Pila Mulligan: also https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-4201
Pila Mulligan: "The symptoms suggests this is related to packet loss in your network/internet connection: * If you are on a wireless connection, try a wired connection to see if it solves your problem. * Reduce/lower the bandwidth setting in Edit -> Preferences -> Network"
Pila Mulligan: "Ursa. I have bad news for you. This issue has no solution provided by LL or any other. I had the same problem for about two months. No packet loss, decent cable connection, no hardware or software changes... It just appeared. I tried many things to resolve it. Including usage of proxy servers and negotiating freeing up a channel with ISP. No results. Then after 8 or so weeks it disappeared as suddunly as it appeared. It appears that this issue has something to do with network architecture and nothing can be done until LL do something about their software. Pila Mulligan: also: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-154
stevenaia Michinaga: kind of like an infection
Pila Mulligan: so it seems this is not a new SL problem
    Pila Mulligan: something, yep
stevenaia Michinaga: just one that they aren't ging to fix
    stevenaia Michinaga: indeed
Pila Mulligan: Regretable Echo Disorder - RED
stevenaia Michinaga: but it does drive any point you are making home
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: it would not seem to belikely to happen if Pema logged i from adifferent system
Pila Mulligan: do they have a business room where you can log in with their PC?
    Pila Mulligan: the hotel?
stevenaia Michinaga: or a public network in the lobby?
Pila Mulligan: yes, I was just seeing that Pema
    Pila Mulligan: how odd
Pila Mulligan: maybe it is also a volume thing
Pila Mulligan: it appears only at a lower number of words
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: we may be the dog chasing its tail :)
Pila Mulligan: not that it isn't fn :)
    Pila Mulligan: fun*
Pila Mulligan: try pasting the chat with Brandon again, to see if it shows only once
Pila Mulligan: ... oh well, too late
Pila Mulligan: thanks Pema, have a nioce Parisian day
Oddly, it seems the autologger didn't preserve my double speak here. The second time I came in, my words were suppressed completely!  In any case, I said goodbye, and I will leave the rest of the chat below without comment.
stevenaia Michinaga: he doesn;t log off twice :)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: now it does twice, before it di only once
    Pila Mulligan: too odd
Pila Mulligan: bfn x 4 then
    stevenaia Michinaga: lol
Pila Mulligan: Pema seems to like the idea of and experiment with PaB in a real life session
    Pila Mulligan: an*
stevenaia Michinaga: if I were in Paris, I don;t think I would really mind
Pila Mulligan: yes, how true, Steve
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, it seems like a very intensive move
Pila Mulligan: well, thinking about it, in retrospect, trying PaB on a small rl scale is asensible step
stevenaia Michinaga: the convenience of "here" may not work so well in RL
Pila Mulligan: yes, there will be scedhuling differences, and other factors too
Pila Mulligan: but giving it try is senisble
Pila Mulligan: and see what happens
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, I read about it, then thought of the time that would be involved on someone's part aside from the particiapents
Pila Mulligan: if there were two or three guardians I tihnk having one schdeuled session every day would work
Pila Mulligan: maybe no one would come ot half of them
Pila Mulligan: maybe some would overflow
Pila Mulligan: but here the consancy is important
    Pila Mulligan: constancy
Pila Mulligan: Saki made that point today
stevenaia Michinaga: Pema does have a good way of explaining the approach that is hard to duplicate w/o him
Pila Mulligan: yes, that is the biggest hazard in myopinion
Pila Mulligan: Pema's the foundation of the theory
Pila Mulligan: but the practice is not at risk in that regard
stevenaia Michinaga: the "energy" here seems to wax and wane with time
Pila Mulligan: just doing the 9 seconds and talking about it
Pila Mulligan: yes, all things go in cycles :)
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, that is fundamental
Pila Mulligan: and Saki was giving more emphasis today to the 'after scinece then what' apscet
    Pila Mulligan: aspect*
    stevenaia Michinaga: was it affective?
    Pila Mulligan: she did well
Pila Mulligan: the audience seemed quite familair with SL
    Pila Mulligan: already
Pila Mulligan: one question she got was how she felt about text vs voice
Pila Mulligan: in her answer she touched on the missing element of presence, but otherwise it was not an easy question to address
stevenaia Michinaga: voice is hard to "log" and then replay, scaning the content in text is improtant from a time to review the logs standpoint
Pila Mulligan: personal presence that is
Pila Mulligan: yes, I agree entirely
Pila Mulligan: also, the resources for voice are hard for some (such as Pila)
stevenaia Michinaga: voice to text tranlators are quite possible
    Pila Mulligan: yes, nice idea
Pila Mulligan: especially with typo fixing
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
Pila Mulligan: well, not to drag out your lovely day at the theater to much ...
    Pila Mulligan: are you tired?
stevenaia Michinaga: no, it;s a short drive, all things considered, 90 minutes each way
    Pila Mulligan: ahh
Pila Mulligan: like me driving to other side of the island here
Pila Mulligan: where Costco is :)
    Pila Mulligan: and Lowes
Pila Mulligan: and nice beaches and restaurants :)
stevenaia Michinaga: we have 3 within an hour or 90 minutes, but no Costco closer for some annoying reason
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: a shared inconvenience then
stevenaia Michinaga: we love Coasto Miracles
Pila Mulligan: what are tney, not familiar with them
Pila Mulligan: I aven't been there recently
    stevenaia Michinaga: Costco Miracles?
    Pila Mulligan: yes
stevenaia Michinaga: jsut amazing how good and inexpensive some of the things they sell are
    stevenaia Michinaga: nothing in particular
Pila Mulligan: ah, I tohuhgt maybe it was a pizza or something
stevenaia Michinaga: they are amazing to :)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: I like buying in bulk
Pila Mulligan: but it is easy to spend more than you expected
stevenaia Michinaga: for one person it may be a bit much
Pila Mulligan: well, I can stock up for half a year's worth of paper goods, pasts sauce, etc
    Pila Mulligan: in one visit
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
    Pila Mulligan: olive oil
Pila Mulligan: oh -- you meant the pizza -- yes, it is more than I can eat at once, but pizza is good the next day
stevenaia Michinaga: one final thing, related to Tai Chi, I am finding that since the yang style I am being taugh does not appear to be the same as any other form, the only way to continue is to be taught in person.. wonders other than a video from the teacher , there is no other way exceot to attend class
stevenaia Michinaga: required a plesent continued patience
Pila Mulligan: yes, but once you get comfortable with the fundamentals it will probably be more eaisly transferrable
Pila Mulligan: I've practiced with several teachers and even within the same style there are always variations
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
Pila Mulligan: if you want, you can find a good book and learn another style from it, after you have gotten the benfit of this teacher in person
stevenaia Michinaga: very easy to leave class and forget a key point, I think I;ll talk to her about a video, she jsut set up a sit to allow her students to log on and lost comments
    Pila Mulligan: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: one of her students set it up
Pila Mulligan: it is actually a real effort to make a tai chi video
Pila Mulligan: a commercial quality tai chi video, that is -- it can be very time consuming getting it right
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, but I would be the one watching...smiles
Pila Mulligan: she also could more easily do breif videos of key points
Pila Mulligan: for a web site (and You Tube)
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, or on her site
    Pila Mulligan: yep
Pila Mulligan: if she has the bandwidth :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: or for downloading
Pila Mulligan: that's the nice thing about You Tube, your video, their resource
Pila Mulligan: their web resources, that is -- servers
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
Pila Mulligan: I had a most remarkable expereince today, actually
Pila Mulligan: I was back blading with the tractor in some dirt around the house, landscaping
Pila Mulligan: and as I finished one pass I onticed two eyes looking up out of the pile of dirt I had just finished
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Paradise
Pila Mulligan: a middle size toad had gotten caught up int he dirrt -- and not squished
Pila Mulligan: it just hoppee awayd
    Pila Mulligan: hi Paradsie
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: a good sign
    Pila Mulligan: I was happy
Pila Mulligan: I went ove rto see if it was hurt and it wasn't
Pila Mulligan: how are you Paradise?
Paradise Tennant: very well thanks .. I am giving a friend a tour of second life .. she has never seen it before :))

    Pila Mulligan: hey Fran
    Paradise Tennant: yes
    stevenaia Michinaga: waves to Fran
Pila Mulligan: any thougths about reality, Fran?
Pila Mulligan: that's what we do here, think about reality :)
    Pila Mulligan: sometimes
Paradise Tennant: she is waving back .. :))
Paradise Tennant: yes a place for very good conversation and contemplation :))
stevenaia Michinaga: it;s all about reality, but reality and little reality
    Pila Mulligan: indeed
    stevenaia Michinaga: big, rather
    Pila Mulligan: Reality and reality?
    stevenaia Michinaga: the difference being?
    Pila Mulligan: Being and being
    stevenaia Michinaga: awww

Pila Mulligan: yes, like adjacent puzzle pieces
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, a remarkable thing how it works as well as how it does not for some other people
Paradise Tennant: yes just like chemical elements :))
Pila Mulligan: now some would say you may have been freinds for many lifetimes
Paradise Tennant: Fran is saying she thinks you are right !
stevenaia Michinaga: if we only knew how we knew
Pila Mulligan: someone once asked Ravi Shankar how long he had been playing the sitar, and he said "for 24 consecutive lifetimes" :)
Pila Mulligan: you don't really need the details, just enjoy the situation :)
Paradise Tennant: yes sometimes you meet some one and you can hear the click wow no wonder he is so good :))

    Pila Mulligan: her
    kenji Pookes: her
Pila Mulligan: she ison the cushion next to you :)
Pila Mulligan: but she is invisble
kenji Pookes: That makes it difficult to see her.
kenji Pookes: Glad I didn't sit on her.
    Paradise Tennant: :))
    stevenaia Michinaga: lol
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Paradise Tennant: lol

kenji Pookes: Why would anyone want to go to Houston?
Pila Mulligan: and for baseball there's always the Toronto.BlueJays
kenji Pookes: I'm a REd Sox fan, so not much interested in the Jays, unless they lose.
Paradise Tennant: yes I live very near the skydome great baseball here the red sox played today

    Paradise Tennant: lololol
    Pila Mulligan: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/31/sp...ll/31bats.html
kenji Pookes: So why does your friend want to go to Houston? It's a horrid place.
kenji Pookes: Austin is far more pleasant.
Pila Mulligan: "Alex Rios had four hits and drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on Saturday, leading Brian Tallet and the Blue Jays to a 5-3 victory over the slumping Red Sox in Toronto."
Paradise Tennant: she says she has always wanted to go to texas
kenji Pookes: OK, ok, ok. I got it.
Paradise Tennant: she is not saying the why though ..much laugher
Pila Mulligan: Austin is better, I've heard
kenji Pookes: Austin is incomparable to Houston.
Paradise Tennant: horseback .things you see in the movies .. good cowboy boots!
kenji Pookes: Houston is vast, ugly, and lacks even the slightest bit of charm.
Paradise Tennant: kk makes note .. no houston :))
kenji Pookes: Um, it isn't much like that anymore in Texas--at least not around Austin.
    Paradise Tennant: sigh
kenji Pookes: We actually have cars here now.
    Paradise Tennant: lol
kenji Pookes: But you do see cowboy hats pretty often.
    kenji Pookes: and boots
Paradise Tennant: ahh there you go .. love the boots ..not so keen on the hats :))
    Pila Mulligan: in basketball shoes
    Pila Mulligan: Houston Cowboys Basketball
    Pila Mulligan: nic cow Steve

    Paradise Tennant: lolololololololololololololol
kenji Pookes: Do you know that the mascot for the University of Texas is a cow?
Pila Mulligan: would PETA approve of this Steve?
Paradise Tennant: :))) fun laughter ..very good meditative tools to keep you right in the moment :)))
Paradise Tennant: lovely steve .. you had us in tears :))
stevenaia Michinaga: on thing about SL, the cow never gets tired
    Paradise Tennant: lololololo
    Pila Mulligan: or even wet
Paradise Tennant: easier to keep as a house pet too !
    Pila Mulligan: nice moo, too
kenji Pookes: Kind of odd looking cow, though.
Pila Mulligan: for the record, Steve has just finished an extesnive dance with a cow, with backgounrd music and mooing
kenji Pookes: Are there cowboys in Canad?
    kenji Pookes: Canada
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)

kenji Pookes: Where are you from, Steve?
    stevenaia Michinaga: PA
    kenji Pookes: Western?
    stevenaia Michinaga: no near NJ
kenji Pookes: I used to ive in Pittsburgh.
    kenji Pookes: live
kenji Pookes: Pittsburgh is a fantastic city.
Paradise Tennant: hmm would not have thought that
    kenji Pookes: WHy not?
Paradise Tennant: what is indianapolis like I am going there next weekend for a music jam
kenji Pookes: Never been to Indy.
Paradise Tennant: hmm i guess just the image of steel mill ..
Paradise Tennant: industry sort of rust belt kind of picture in my head
kenji Pookes: Steel mills are all gone. The city is all cleaned up and has much going for it. Not real big, but big city things--like a great symphony orchestra, museums, and very fine universities. Also the architecture is wonderful.
    Paradise Tennant: nice
kenji Pookes: I did my PhD at the University of Pittsburgh, which has a 42 story gothic building at the center of its campus.
stevenaia Michinaga: our Steel plant turned into a Sands Casino that opened last week
Paradise Tennant: we have a great symphony which I do not get out to as much as I should . took my mom a couple of weeks ago and sat there wondering why .. I did not go more often
    Paradise Tennant: nice
    Paradise Tennant: wow
Paradise Tennant: creative use of the bricks :)
    kenji Pookes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_of_Learning
kenji Pookes: It's quite amazing inside. Ther are rooms called nationality rooms, which are classrooms designed to match the architectural style of contries of immigrants to Pittsburgh.
stevenaia Michinaga: what was your PhD degree in?
kenji Pookes: The rooms are beautiful.
kenji Pookes: PhD is in anthropology
Paradise Tennant: what a lovely idea :)
kenji Pookes: THe immigrant groups in the city each have raised the money for each room, so it generates a sense of community involvement in the university.
    kenji Pookes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationality_Rooms
kenji Pookes: What is really amazing is that the rooms are used as regualr classrooms. I had several classes in the nationality rooms when I was there.
Paradise Tennant: I bet it changes the way those classes function on some levels .. makes them more interesting :)
Pila Mulligan has dinner on his mind and slips out to read some recipes :) -- bye Paradise, Fran, Kenji, Steve amd Cow
kenji Pookes: It does, because each room is designed in a unique way and the rooms to not always follow the traditional classroom structure. The chinese room, for exampe, has a large round table in the middle.
    kenji Pookes: See ya
    stevenaia Michinaga: bye Pila
    Pila Mulligan: bye bye
    stevenaia Michinaga: enjoy dinner
Paradise Tennant: nite nite pila :))
Paradise Tennant: well I think I will excuse myself too .. and show Fran more of sl .. maybe even do a wee bit of flying and falling :))
Paradise Tennant: be well all :)))
kenji Pookes: Yes, me too. Good night.
