Eliza Madrigal: I used to fast, not for a particular day, but just as a thing to do... seemed to help me figure out things somehow. Then it became a kind of formula to resort to.. so dropped it
Eliza Madrigal: but I get why people do it. Sometimes people do it to remind themselves of people being hungry in the world, too...

Wol Euler: I did a good deed today, and had a bit of interspecies contact :)

Wol Euler: Persuaded a hawk that had got trapped between a wire fence and a thorn bush to free itself.
Wol Euler: Ever seen a hawk up close? They're huge.
Wol Euler: Beautiful and vicious

Wol Euler: it was caught where the bush grew out over a downward slope against the fence, at the end of a garden
Wol Euler: I couldn't figure out why it didn't just back up and walk out, so I stood and looked at it for a while
Wol Euler: and it looked back :)
Bertram Jacobus: did it come free ?
Wol Euler: I realized that birds can't back up, their feathers are too delicate
Wol Euler: they have to go forwards
Wol Euler: and their way to solve problems is by flying from them. They start to fly by jumping - forward
Wol Euler: the hawk didn't want to go into the dark under the bush, so he kept jumping against hte fence
Wol Euler: trying to move away from me, I went right so he went left :)
Wol Euler: I figured out that I could move him around by positioning myself, as liontamers do.
Wol Euler: and I eventually got him turned halfway around
Wol Euler: then stepped up very close to the fence, making him walk into the dark under the bush to get away from me
Wol Euler: I stepped closer still (but not right up to the fence, his beak and claws could have got through the mesh)
Wol Euler: and he walked forward until he was clear of the bush, and free.
Wol Euler: I stepped far back then, and stood still to let him rest.
Bertram Jacobus: what a nice story and experience ! :-)
Wol Euler: after a few seconds, he shook himself out and flew off to a treetop.
Wol Euler: it was a real APAPB moment
