Wol Euler was guardian for this session, filling in for Scathach.

    Wol Euler: good morning calvino

Wol Euler: are you still in Thailand?

Calvino Rabeni: Ahh,,, hello Wol, I am there now

    Wol Euler smiles

Wol Euler: hence your "slow link" title, I guess

Calvino Rabeni: :) is is thus

    Wol Euler: how is Thailand?

Calvino Rabeni: WIth te slowlink ad slow computr Im pleased it works atall

    Wol Euler nods

Wol Euler: are you hanging out at the beach?

Calvino Rabeni: Travel hint - don't bother to pack socks for your trip to the tropics

Calvino Rabeni: No, I have not been to the beach

    Wol Euler: heheheh

Calvino Rabeni: :) It is a place with lots of hot sun and a gritty substance known as "sand"

    Wol Euler: yeeeeeeeesss.

Wol Euler: that does fit the generally acknowledged definition

Calvino Rabeni: I think it would be fun to go out there a night, but this is an urban area - various dicey things go on there at that time

    Wol Euler: mmhmm

Calvino Rabeni: In a couple days I will take a boat tripp to remote iislands, and get the "Beach" experience as known to travel postcards :)

    --BELL--

    Wol Euler: sounds good

Calvino Rabeni: It occurred to me, I can have the "urban retreat" experience here as easily as it is going to be had in SF next week

    Wol Euler: :)

Wol Euler: sure, retreating is an inner experience not a place

Calvino Rabeni: Hint - make sure to take a nap in the afternoon, then the bedlam at night will be easier to tolerate or even blend in with

    Wol Euler: :))))

Wol Euler: er, was that about SF or about Thailand?

    Wol Euler: good morning yaku

Calvino Rabeni: EIther :) As in, appreciating the appearance of Being in "nightlife"

    Yakuzza Lethecus: morning

Calvino Rabeni: In tropical places the night is when everyone hits the street - the early-to-bed types will zig when life there zags

Yakuzza Lethecus: any updates on the appearance of dust in the atmosphere ?

    Calvino Rabeni: Good morning Yakusan

Wol Euler: there's still plenty of it.

    Wol Euler: buongiorno qt

    Qt Core: Hi all

    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey qt

    Wol Euler: hello crusty

    Yakuzza Lethecus: crutsy

    Qt Core: Hi Crusty

Crusty Goldshark: hi guys - sorry I am early for the next session - ok late for this one oops

Crusty Goldshark: are we doing emergency fountain staring again?

    Calvino Rabeni: Heh

Calvino Rabeni: Doing "bits coming from thailand" routine

Calvino Rabeni: By the way, anyone know where to get buddhist robes in SL?

    Crusty Goldshark: ah ok

    Calvino Rabeni: I feel overdressed

Wol Euler: there is a store near the Zen Retreat place, some are even free

Wol Euler: but I don't have a LM

Crusty Goldshark: good plan I would wear them

    Calvino Rabeni: TY Wol

Crusty Goldshark: zen retreat reuil? OK goona find some clothes

    Wol Euler: that's the one.

Calvino Rabeni: I keep getting asked on the street "are you from Sweden"? Apparently I have that look to people, a fact previously unbeknownst to me

    Wol Euler: heheheh

    Wol Euler: your ancestry, perhaps?

Calvino Rabeni: No, no such known ancestry.

    Wol Euler: well, it

Wol Euler: it's a wise child that knows what its great-grandmother got up to :)

Calvino Rabeni: Relationship terms vary over the world - perhaps they could be defined mathematically?

Calvino Rabeni: Then your brother would be your 0th cousin

    --BELL--

    Calvino Rabeni: ping -t 216.82.5.46

    Wol Euler rubs her elbow.

Calvino Rabeni: :) oops, wrong window!

    Yakuzza Lethecus: :)

Wol Euler: ah, so your laptop is either Linux or Mac OSX :)

    Yakuzza Lethecus: Ping wird ausgeführt für 216.82.5.46 mit 32 Bytes Daten: Antwort von 216.82.5.46: Bytes=32 Zeit=1219ms TTL=51 Antwort von 216.82.5.46: Bytes=32 Zeit=1133ms TTL=51 Antwort von 216.82.5.46: Bytes=32 Zeit=1158ms TTL=51 Antwort von 216.82.5.46: Bytes=32 Zeit=1143ms TTL=51

Qt Core: you can't even imagine how hard is not to do a nslookup for that ;-)

Wol Euler laughs. What a bunch of geeks we are.

Calvino Rabeni: No, it's a gateway light netbook running Windows 7

Calvino Rabeni: A suitable piece of traveling gear

Wol Euler: oh, w7 has a "ping" command? Well well, live and learn.

Yakuzza Lethecus: you never lost the console in windows

Calvino Rabeni: Nice and light. Actually "sort of" does SL

Yakuzza Lethecus: but nobody knows how to script and use the console anymore

Qt Core: i think all windows have it

    Qt Core: (ping i mean)

Wol Euler: maybe I mis-remember. I thought XP had that functionality but not a *command* by that name, I remember it being in the network services app

Calvino Rabeni: RIght Wol, maybe a "theme session" on IP would be in order?

    Wol Euler: :)

Qt Core: every time i have to type more than a couple command on windows console i swear i will install cgywin ;-)

Calvino Rabeni: Well it *is* part of Being

    Wol Euler: definitely.

Yakuzza Lethecus: at least one of the appearancs

Wol Euler: even if a mostly-hidden-from-view part

Calvino Rabeni: Instead of the TSK big body exercise, imagine your body being broken down into packets, then bytes, then bits, sent every which way, and reassembled in half a dozen places

    Wol Euler grins

Calvino Rabeni: Before making its appearance as a manifest avatar

Qt Core: now that is multi.... being?

Wol Euler: this explains why your shoe sometimes gets attached to your arse instead of your foot!

Calvino Rabeni: Its a genetic code - something left out, then the assembly process goes awry

    Wol Euler nods.

Qt Core: a couple days ago i had a revelation/weird feeling

    Wol Euler: mmmm?

Qt Core: i tried to use another editor to code and felt i had to push my mind into the code

Qt Core: while when i was back to my beloved Vi/Vim the code was coming into my mind

    --BELL--

Calvino Rabeni: Calvino Rabeni is now operating on battery due to a neighborhood power outage

    Wol Euler: oh wow

Calvino Rabeni: How odd, the routers still work

Wol Euler: "all part of Life's rich tapestry" as they say.

Calvino Rabeni: Even if the air conditioning is out

Wol Euler: perhaps the hotel has its own generator?

Calvino Rabeni: Which seems like a proper priority to me :)

    Wol Euler: absolutely :)

    Wol Euler: wb crusty

Calvino Rabeni: My AC and lights are out

    Qt Core: re-hi crusty

Calvino Rabeni: Power out, but data lives on - thus the world is in order :)

Crusty Goldshark: hi guys - found robes

Wol Euler: but didn't wear them?

Qt Core: wonder in wich mode the AC was this time of the year, warm or cold ?

Crusty Goldshark: however efforts to wear resulted in me wearing the message board they came on . . .

Wol Euler grins and points to the concept of "un-boxing"

Calvino Rabeni: 36 degrees outside - here inside a thick cement uilding it doesn't take long to seep inside

Wol Euler: has a literal meaning as well as the philosophical/metaphorical one

    Calvino Rabeni: Un-boxing - a non-violent thing to do with fists ?

    Wol Euler: mmhmm

Calvino Rabeni: Calvino Rabeni thinks of the song "Don't Fence Me In" updated

Wol Euler places her fist slowly and very gently against your lips. Like that :)

Crusty Goldshark: just getting phone in rl

Crusty Goldshark: I will try the wu wei of unboxing - many thanks

    Wol Euler: :)

Calvino Rabeni: I got that set up yesterday - 2 cell phones that work here

    Calvino Rabeni: Addicted I suppose

Wol Euler: let's back up a moment, I would like to hear more of Qt's editor revelation

    Calvino Rabeni: Yes *must*

Qt Core: i have to understand if there is something about it or just my ancient ways of coding (the new editor was Eclipse, quite different from Vi)

Qt Core: probably it is only an aftereffect of the many years of Vi use

Calvino Rabeni: What you say makes sense to me Qt

    Wol Euler nods.

Wol Euler: our tools affect our thinking, there's no doubt about that

Calvino Rabeni: As with such editors the characters are placed there by your intimate actions

Qt Core: i may have to find a plug-in that would make vi commands avaiable in eclipse

Wol Euler: having to pick up a new tool pushes us out of the "flow" state, because we have to look at and think about the *tool* not about what we want to use it for

Calvino Rabeni: While with Eclipse you are confronted with a wall of text and images

Calvino Rabeni: I'd say it is partly the "too many windows" phenomenon

Qt Core: and the to few inches phenomenon too (this phrase has to be read only in context ;-) )

    Wol Euler raises an eyebrow.

Qt Core: (i tried eclipse on a 15 inches monitor, that's claustrophobic)

    --BELL--

Wol Euler: bye qt, enjoy your coding despite eclipse

Qt Core: rl calls, bye all (and i should love it if only for its name ;-) )

Crusty Goldshark: guys gonna try wear these robs - - do't wish to be eclipsed

Calvino Rabeni: I will try the robes yes

Wol Euler has just realized why an old Laurie Anderson song is running through her head this morning :)

Crusty Goldshark: robs= robes - do not want bad karma from stealing from virtual monks . . .

Calvino Rabeni: Ah, then I will need to take the vows

Calvino Rabeni: Ah, Wol, if I look back on my chhat log, all 7 Meg of it, I see many "Wol EUler raises an eyebrow" but never "Wol Euler lowers eyebrow" - it must be pretty high by now, or you have some invisible eyes

Crusty Goldshark: I have not used SL in a while - new sidebar interface is doing my head in

Wol Euler: it's halfway down my back by now.

    Calvino Rabeni: :)

Crusty Goldshark: good plan I will take virtual precepts too

Wol Euler: oh, I loathe and despise the sidebar

Wol Euler: I'm sticking with emerald

Calvino Rabeni: Is emerald available on WIndows

Crusty Goldshark: whatever emaralsd is I mitght just use the menu for now . . .

Wol Euler: yep, and linux too

    Calvino Rabeni: Never tried it.

    Wol Euler: http://modularsystems.sl/downloads.html

Crusty Goldshark: who thought we would have to learn getting dressed again . . .

Crusty Goldshark: okdownloading that emerald thing now

    Wol Euler grins.

Crusty Goldshark: many thanks wol - I am using Ubuntu - normally I use Puppy Linux - so a lot of new things for me

Crusty Goldshark: must have rl breakfast

    Crusty Goldshark: brain slowly disintegrating . . .;

Wol Euler: oops, calvino's router died after all.

Crusty Goldshark: I have broadband - without proper connection it must be - not fun :(

    Wol Euler: yep

Wol Euler: to be honest, I was surprised that it worked at all.

    Crusty Goldshark: People are resourceful

Yakuzza Lethecus: where do you live crusty ?

Crusty Goldshark: listen - I am gonna go and strip off in some secluded spot - or whatever I do to get dressed

Crusty Goldshark: thanks gus - CU again

    Yakuzza Lethecus: bye crusty

Wol Euler: bye crusty, take care

    Crusty Goldshark: :)

Wol Euler: so, yaku, gibt's was neues bei dir?

Yakuzza Lethecus: Oh, gestern abend mit Pila und Gaya I Ching Münzen ausprobiert :).

    Wol Euler: ah :)

Yakuzza Lethecus: Sonst eigentlich nicht viel substanziell neues.

Yakuzza Lethecus: Ich 2 neue nette Kontakte aufgebaut diese Woche in SL.

    Wol Euler: schön

Yakuzza Lethecus: Australien und China bzw. Irland.

Wol Euler: drei länder für 2 kontakte?

    --BELL--

    Wol Euler: ach so :)

Wol Euler: giftige Zusatzstoffe in Kinderkleider zB

Wol Euler: neulich von Markt zurückgezogen

Yakuzza Lethecus: Jep, man denke an Mattell

    Wol Euler: mmhmm

Yakuzza Lethecus: Die ganzen Spielzeuge mit den Giftstoffen letzes Jahr.

    Wol Euler: yep

    Wol Euler: heheheheheh

    Wol Euler: zweimal!

    --BELL--

Yakuzza Lethecus: Was bist du aktuell am lesen ?

Wol Euler: huh, wegen überarbeit lese ich leider wenig

Wol Euler: das Handbuch zu Dragon Age: Origins :)))

    Wol Euler: Terry Pratchett, "Truth"

Yakuzza Lethecus: lol, hast du Dragon Age gespielt ?

    Yakuzza Lethecus: DA ?

    Yakuzza Lethecus: BBC ?

    Wol Euler: Dragon Age

    Wol Euler: Battlefield Bad Company

    Yakuzza Lethecus: Bad company

    Wol Euler: ty

Yakuzza Lethecus: Schaust du Doctor Who ?

    Yakuzza Lethecus: http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldu...ig-976231.html

    --BELL--

    Yakuzza Lethecus: ok, take care

Wol Euler: you too, enjoy the weekend

Yakuzza Lethecus: and i wish you clear information on ur flight

    Wol Euler: ty :)
