The Guardian for this meeting was Eos Amaterasu. The comments are by Eos Amaterasu.
Eos Amaterasu: Hi Storm
Eos Amaterasu: and Raffie
Storm Nordwind: Hi Eos, Raffi
Raffila Millgrove: hi Eos, Storm.
Eos Amaterasu: & Stevenaia
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Eos Amaterasu: This is a nice place to come to....
Raffila Millgrove: Hi Steve
Eos Amaterasu: I must say :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, Storm it is a great work
Storm Nordwind: You're very kind to say so. I am happily amazed it has lasted more than three years with almost no change.
Eos Amaterasu: it is itself a type of sally :-)
Storm Nordwind smiles
Eos Amaterasu: living lab / cathedral
stevenaia Michinaga: I saw a miniture of the playgoto in the sandbox, are you considering changes
Storm Nordwind: Ah no... that was for a sense of scale on quite a different project.
Storm Nordwind: I shall take that away soon. But it's like the model in the Museum of Sacred Art - except with more detail
Eos Amaterasu: all the exact details together create space
Storm Nordwind: Yes... to me, here, it never feels too cluttered nor too open; always inviting and comforting. But perhaps that's just me!
Eos Amaterasu: It's a model for one kind of public space
Eos Amaterasu: how to contain and how to keep open
Raffila Millgrove: I mentioned before to you.. that you chose a lot of the very best plants.. in SL. timeless.
stevenaia Michinaga: how much and how little defines it
Storm Nordwind blushes violently :)
Eos Amaterasu: a good example of how a sally, if this is indeed an extended sally, creates on ongoing opening space
Eos Amaterasu: kind of interesting re not so much dropping, as picking up
--BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: bedtime for me, night all
stevenaia Michinaga: see you tomorrow
Eos Amaterasu: 'night Stevie
Raffila Millgrove: bye Steve sleep well
Storm Nordwind: Bye!
Eos Amaterasu thinks of that net.... :-)
Raffila Millgrove: I've got to run along as well. take care.
Eos Amaterasu: Bye Raffie!
Storm Nordwind: Bye Raffi!
Storm Nordwind: Ah yes... the net! ;-)
Eos Amaterasu: When I first heard Pema and Lia talking about sallies, and also those, like Maxine, and Eliza, who work with dreams
Eos Amaterasu: I found it a very different approach than the more "dropping" or "letting go" or "unattached" modes I'd become very familiar with
Storm Nordwind nods
Eos Amaterasu: Ie, using active imagination as a way to "contemplatively", experimentally, study mind
Storm Nordwind: I found your notion of sallies was interesting Eos, if only because I've been around people who did it and I worked very differently from them. They seem to follow an imaginative analog of a journey, and I never do.
Storm Nordwind: I once worked a lot with pagans who do a meditative exercise called pathworking.
Eos Amaterasu listens
Storm Nordwind: And a friend - a doctor at an English university - who studies the old Heathen art of seidh
Storm Nordwind: And endeavored to practice it herself.
Eos Amaterasu: (seidh?)
Storm Nordwind: And all involved a journey, whose reality was linear, sometimes defined, sometimes exploratory, and whether they went to "real" places is of course open to discussion.
Storm Nordwind: Seidh - or more properly "Seiðr" - was a kind of Old Norse magic, a shamanic practice. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seidh
Storm Nordwind: I used to accompany my friend on her journey as a protector.
Eos Amaterasu: hmm, good
Storm Nordwind: And it was interesting because I could go from node to node (as it were) of the journey at will, without travelling the intermediate lanes and avenues.
Storm Nordwind: That is the way I work... extend will and arrive immediately. Not sure it that counts as a "sally", but it sure helped protect others!
Eos Amaterasu: Well, if you were both in the same "places" then that's good....
--BELL--
Storm Nordwind: That was the idea. Be there with her, but let her do the work she needed to do "there", protect her from whatever else was there, and pull her out if she got into trouble, as quickly but as gently as possible.
Eos Amaterasu: Hmm, in a way that's the role played by a shaman/guide
Eos Amaterasu: or by KuanYin :-)
Storm Nordwind: Yes. And that I did. Though ostensibly she was the shaman! Though it was obvious - without any disrespect to her work - that I was achieving what she achieved but without all the traditional shamanic palaver ;-)
Eos Amaterasu: Different journeys for different types, I guess.
Eos Amaterasu: The danger of sallies is that you could fixate on their content, so to speak
Eos Amaterasu: but the danger for the purely dropping crowd is that you fixate on the emptiness, and separate manifestation from ..... it :-)
Storm Nordwind: She was researching whether ancient techniques worked - and they did - but she fixated on the method rather than the content. It validated her research but the same practical results could have been achieved in a faster safer way. Practical results for others that is, as it was supposed to be a technique to bring back wisdom for others, though her journey and the mode of her journey may have been more important to her.
Eos Amaterasu: Daydreaming as a Way to Wisdom : I can just see the book :-) (re the Lia style of sally)
Storm Nordwind: Yes!
Eos Amaterasu: Very much like Jung in the Red Book
Eos Amaterasu: but you can easily get lost in the enchanted forest :-)
Storm Nordwind: Seiðr (incidentally, pronounced "saythe") is supposed to access sources of wisdom and bring it to others who need it, rather than for self. I rather think I recall Lia's style benefited the journeyer, rather than others. Or do I remember incorrectly?
Eos Amaterasu: Well, I don't know if they have either intention, really: they seem to me to be more exploratory
Storm Nordwind nods
Eos Amaterasu: but the group sallies start having some of that sense
Eos Amaterasu: but there's been very little experience with that
Eos Amaterasu: I like the notion that "stories sculpt reality", as Fefonz said
Storm Nordwind: Yes!
Storm Nordwind: My experience is that is - to some extent - a reality that can (in some circumstances) be objectively shared, at least between some.
Storm Nordwind notes rather a lot of "some"s in that, obviously adding a lot of tentative qualifications ;)
Eos Amaterasu: that's magic when that happens?
Storm Nordwind: Depends on your definition of magic. :)
Eos Amaterasu: the true magic
--BELL--
Storm Nordwind: Magic for some is effecting change through will
Storm Nordwind: But is it is a social science
Storm Nordwind: And what it does is affect probabilities, rather than something more definite like a natural science!
Eos Amaterasu: if you're completely in tune you command coincidence
Storm Nordwind: Command is a stroong word. But under those circumstances, there is no difference between "command" and "letting go" :)
Eos Amaterasu: yes :-)
Eos Amaterasu: who's commanding who?
Storm Nordwind smiles
Eos Amaterasu: but what is that sense of "will" you speak of?
Storm Nordwind: For me it's completely normal to find jointly inhabitable non-physical spaces. Not magic at all. Though some will variously classify it as imagination or insanity! ;)
Storm Nordwind: "Will" has a bad rep with many. Implies force and effort, whereas true will is effortless
Storm Nordwind: It is about being
Storm Nordwind: And Being
Eos Amaterasu: words like intention and wind come to mind
Eos Amaterasu: again, sense of sally :-)
Eos Amaterasu: "energy fools the magician" - Brian Eno
Storm Nordwind: Intention is different in this particular case, for that is a "why" rather than "how". Will is even more than "how". It is "is".
Eos Amaterasu: is-ing
Storm Nordwind smiles
Eos Amaterasu: "fundamental knowing resolve onto the essence of Being" - metaphysics according to Heidegger
Eos Amaterasu: but also that same kind of resolve can be in daily detail of life
Eos Amaterasu: re jointly inhabiting non-physical spaces, is that how you can have a relationship with a "deity", so to speak?
Storm Nordwind: Yes, I guess that would be a fair description. Certainly in Vajrayana such spaces are visualized,
Storm Nordwind: But it's not limited to Buddhist deities. Works for many from many pantheons I've found.
Eos Amaterasu: hmm, yes, like the space you consider your identity, or will even
Storm Nordwind: At some times, my "identity" - such a difficult word! - has been pure awareness. But prior to that, it was common for me for it simply to be pure will.
Eos Amaterasu: What is that purity?
Storm Nordwind smiles
--BELL--
Storm Nordwind: How can one describe it? Better teachers than me have tried. They have not failed, indeed they have succeeded - often - for the people of their own time. But I am not in their league! :)
Eos Amaterasu: It's good enough just to acknowledge that
Eos Amaterasu: bow to it
Storm Nordwind nods
Eos Amaterasu: On that note, I should go to bed
Storm Nordwind: Sleep well dear friend :)
Eos Amaterasu: Thank you for the conversation,Storm
Storm Nordwind: You too
