The Guardian for this meeting was Eliza Madrigal. The comments are by Eliza Madrigal.
Eliza Madrigal: Hello Catrina :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: hello
Eliza Madrigal: All well today?
Catrinamonblue Resident: today has been a day of shedding saddness
Eliza Madrigal: as in letting it go?
Catrinamonblue Resident: trying to at any rate, it's tiring though
Eliza Madrigal: sorry to hear that it feels like work rather than lightening
Catrinamonblue Resident: it's in the middle still, there is light at the end I think, I hope
Eliza Madrigal: how are you working with it, if not too personal to share...
Catrinamonblue Resident: just letting it happen as it happens, not holding it in, there is much pain right now and it needs to be allowed acknowledgment, release
Catrinamonblue Resident: saying yes it hurts but this too shall pass
Eliza Madrigal nods... time healing...
Catrinamonblue Resident: time yes but some days time feels like an enemy there has not been enough time yet between the cause of the pain and here and now
Eliza Madrigal: ah, I see.... a situation you are very much 'in' then?
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Wol :)
Wol Euler: hello eliza, catrina, sorry I'm late
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Wol
Eliza Madrigal: cute sweater
Wol Euler: hello kore
Korel Laloix: Heya
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Kori :)
Wol Euler: +l
Eliza Madrigal: this may seem unrelated but this morning, as I was waking, I saw myself begin to plan the day out in a certain way, with expected tasks in blocks, then realized I didn't have to do that... grieving or shedding sadness may have some similarities...
Eliza Madrigal: that there can seem a way it is supposed to go
Eliza Madrigal: but that isn't necessarily true
Catrinamonblue Resident: listening
Wol Euler listens, wondering what she missed.
Korel Laloix: I do think greiving is a process.
Wol Euler nods.
Korel Laloix: Possibly instincual at some levels.
Eliza Madrigal: yes, interesting
Korel Laloix: And trying to fight it can be counterproductive in some schools of thought.
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes
Eliza Madrigal: I'm not one who believes in resolve
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: What you mean my reslove?
Eliza Madrigal: hm... well, not that I don't think things that are painful can be let go of but that, as you say, trying to seek that is more painful
Korel Laloix: OK, I think I understand you.
Korel Laloix: I think we do have a number of emotional processes though.
Korel Laloix: Not just for greiving.
Korel Laloix: For love, sex, mourning, organizing, etc.
Eliza Madrigal: biological responses, nods... can see that...
Korel Laloix: And you don't have to do it the "normal"ish way, but it can make the process more simple.
Catrinamonblue Resident: pain is not simple
Korel Laloix: But a lot of biological processes are emotional.
Eliza Madrigal: one thing I see with conversations with friends at times, is that there is an expectation of process being similar to one another, but though there are instincts there is also so much room
Korel Laloix: Yes, right and left bounderies of "normal"ish process.
Eliza Madrigal nods
Korel Laloix: And deeling with people outside those bounds can be unsetteling.
Eliza Madrigal: I like thinking of emotions as part of body... is that the accepted wisdom now
Eliza Madrigal: ?
Catrinamonblue Resident: i think them that way
Wol Euler: I've heard that, yes
Korel Laloix: Hard to seperate mind and body in so many ways.
Catrinamonblue Resident: but why seperate them?
Eliza Madrigal: well for myself if I see emotions as mental I try to think my way out of them :)
Eliza Madrigal: or think them in various directions
Korel Laloix: There can be power in analysing different dimensions of any problem set indepedantly, but you don't get the whole picture that way.
Eliza Madrigal: I love the feeling of a great film that captivates entirely and one forgets their troubles - putting one's mind off of them is like stopping the tampering
Eliza Madrigal: sometimes has to be a damn good film ^^
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Wol Euler grins.
Korel Laloix: sometimes a film can be so bad it can achieve the same effect though... smiles
Eliza Madrigal: hahaha
Eliza Madrigal: true :) that's when I pull out Xanadu
Catrinamonblue Resident: LOVE Xanadu
Korel Laloix: Thinks back at being coercerd into wathing Buckaroo Banzi and Titanic.
Eliza Madrigal giggles
Korel Laloix looks up Xanadu
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, Titanic I have had a tumultuous time with - first hating then liking parts
Eliza Madrigal: now I can see the whole of it and appreciate it more
Eliza Madrigal: but still think Leo and Kate didn't quite match chemistry wise :P
Korel Laloix: O my word.
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Catrinamonblue Resident: gong to have to go, sorry
Korel Laloix: Take care.
Eliza Madrigal: OK Catrina, wish you well today
Eliza Madrigal: (((( )))))
Catrinamonblue Resident: thanks
Korel Laloix: THe thing about that Titanic movie was that there was no suspense.
--BELL--
Wol Euler: bye catrina, sorry I missed her
Korel Laloix: 17 hours later, the ship still sinks, and you know that before it starts.... I soooo want that day of my life back.
Eliza Madrigal: :) well... in terms of our lives... it is sort of profound...
Eliza Madrigal: we know the ship sinks at the end
Wol Euler: we know that almost every film has a happy ending, but we still go to see them. The should-be-lovers will get togehter, justice will prevail etc etc
Wol Euler: I haven'
Korel Laloix: Yes, but in a normal movie, you don't know the main plot device ahead of time... smiles
Wol Euler: haven't seen Titanic, I had an overdose of Titanic stuff from working for a year on an exhibition about it
Korel Laloix: And besides, I am missing that part of my brain that should let me appraciate chickflicks.
Wol Euler grins.
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: what is your favorite film Kori?
Korel Laloix: Be thankful you missed it.
Korel Laloix: Ooo... very hard to say.
Korel Laloix: Mood dependant really.
Korel Laloix: I watch Koyaanisqatsi regularly.
Korel Laloix: Or at least half watch it.
Eliza Madrigal: hmmm :::googles::::
Korel Laloix: A Beautiful Mind was nice.
Eliza Madrigal: looks amazing
Korel Laloix: There are a coupld of westerns I liked, but can't remember the names.
Eliza Madrigal: A Beautiful Mind is wonderful
Korel Laloix: There are three movies in the series.. the first one if by far the best.
Wol Euler: yes, loved that
Eliza Madrigal: what about you Wol?
Wol Euler: (beautiful mind)
Wol Euler: oh, so many :)
Wol Euler: I was reminded of a favourite last night, by the music
Wol Euler: Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid
Korel Laloix: I guess if I had to chose one favee movie it would be Mulholland Drive.
Wol Euler: Dylan's song "Knocking on Heaven
Wol Euler: heaven's door"
Wol Euler: is so moving
Eliza Madrigal: mmmm have not seen either...
Wol Euler: oh you must
Wol Euler: both :)
Wol Euler: heheheh
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Wol Euler: very different
Korel Laloix: Mulholland Drive is an exquisitly twisted film... and beutiful.
Wol Euler: PG&BtK is similar to the Third Man
Wol Euler: both are about betrayal and the loss of friendship
Eliza Madrigal: oh wow... feel good flicks... :)
Wol Euler: hehehehehe,. really :)
Wol Euler: so perhaps save them for a not-rainy day
Eliza Madrigal: I guess 'favorite' is never a fair question
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: hard to answer fairly
Wol Euler: as Korel said, the answer depends on mood
Eliza Madrigal: agree
Wol Euler: I loved Tarkovsky's "Sacrifice", wonderful film, but I don't really need to see it again
Wol Euler: whereas I do need to see Billy the Kid
Eliza Madrigal: ah, yes some films do fall into those categories...
Eliza Madrigal: I rented Shindler's List about 10 times before I could watch it
Eliza Madrigal: just kept renting it and sending it back
Wol Euler nods.
Korel Laloix: I have not tried to watch it.
Wol Euler: nor I
Eliza Madrigal: powerful medium
Wol Euler: what did you think of it, when you finally saw the film?
--BELL--
Wol Euler: in view of your hesitation
Korel Laloix: Just watched I Can't THink Straight.
Korel Laloix: That was interesting.
Korel Laloix: The Mission with DeNearo wa an amazing flim as well.
Eliza Madrigal: I felt that it was important to have watched
Eliza Madrigal: and to have listened and been there in that way...
Wol Euler nods.
Eliza Madrigal: it was beautiful, which is such a horrific thing to say...
Eliza Madrigal: but the way that light was worked with
Korel Laloix: And La Otra Conquista is another one.
Wol Euler listens.
Eliza Madrigal: complexity at times, humanity - hard to talk about really
Eliza Madrigal: I feel like I haven't seen many films right now... hah... but I know that isn't so
Wol Euler nods thoughtfully. Perhaps I will have to see it after all.
Eliza Madrigal: Life is Beautiful is the same... rented it many times
Wol Euler: oh yes, lovely film
Eliza Madrigal nods
Korel Laloix: Don't know that one... looking up.
Wol Euler: highly recommended, korel
Eliza Madrigal: quite a film
Eliza Madrigal: my son watched that in school a few years ago... hm, 3rd grade actually
Wol Euler: huh
Eliza Madrigal: the teacher gained permission from the parents
Wol Euler: good :)
Eliza Madrigal: and explained very eloquently why she wanted to do so and how she would talk with them and listen to them
Eliza Madrigal: rare bird of a teacher :) ::stops to nod thanks in ether:::
Eliza Madrigal: :))
Wol Euler smiles.
Korel Laloix: I had to do a paper on Tulio Levi-Chivita.
Korel Laloix: So learned a bit about how Jews were treated in Italy in WWII.
Korel Laloix: Was very interesting.
Wol Euler: who is that, korel?
Eliza Madrigal listens
Korel Laloix: one sec.
Wol Euler: hmmmm
Wol Euler: thank you, korel
Korel Laloix: Had a lot wrtten corespondance with Einstein about his math.
Wol Euler: indeed - corrected errors in Einstein's math :)
Korel Laloix: Good chats about Tensors in physics that I have no idea about.
Korel Laloix: yes
Eliza Madrigal: ah, perhaps wiki entry could be added to :))
Korel Laloix: Yes.
Eliza Madrigal: btw Kori I hated to miss your talk Saturday
Eliza Madrigal: will it be posted?
Wol Euler: oh, no, what was that?
Korel Laloix: Most of it.
Eliza Madrigal: in I-Ching
Korel Laloix: THere are parts I want cut out.
Korel Laloix: But I can talk to you about that in IM if you want...
Korel Laloix: I just don't want parts posted.
Eliza Madrigal: thank you
Eliza Madrigal: I'll read what is posted then pester you for missing pieces :)
Wol Euler grins.
Korel Laloix: OK... smiles
Wol Euler: oh, okay
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: It was an interesting talk.
Korel Laloix: TUlio saved all of Alberts letters, but Albert through away most of Tulio's evidently... So the record of the conversation is only half there.
Eliza Madrigal: I wonder how much Einstein made those decisions... re keeping and losing...
Eliza Madrigal: have heard that his secretary kept the world for him
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: a veyr disorganized person
Wol Euler: distracted, one might politely say
Wol Euler: (apparently)
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eliza Madrigal: sort of comforting
Korel Laloix: I wish I remembered my physics classes a little.
Korel Laloix: But just brain dumped it all right after the final.
Wol Euler: yes, eliza
Eliza Madrigal: ::long sigh::::
Eliza Madrigal: time to go
Eliza Madrigal: :) this has been nice, thank you both
Eliza Madrigal: hope Catrina will be OK, and that we'll see our Boxy robot again soon :)
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: tahnk you, eliza, and enjoy the day
Korel Laloix: Ciao
Eliza Madrigal waves warmly
Wol Euler: I dumped a lot of classes too, and forgot much of the rest over the decades
Wol Euler: are you curious about physics?
Korel Laloix: The math part interests me.
Korel Laloix: Some statistical issues.
Korel Laloix: But in general... had very bad teachers.
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: science is easy to teach badly :(
Korel Laloix: Just not bad teaching.. just apathy to students.
Korel Laloix: That was the really bad part... could not even get extra help if I wanted.
Wol Euler: that's terrible
Korel Laloix: But I did learn some good math things out of it.
Korel Laloix: So not a complete loss..
Wol Euler smiles.
Korel Laloix: I have had such a mix of teachers....
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: brb
Korel Laloix: Back.
Wol Euler: wb
Korel Laloix: But you do learn from bad teachers as well.
Korel Laloix: My philosophy teachers are the best example.
Wol Euler grins.
Korel Laloix: Was just a joke.. but seeing that it was a joke was a big thing for me.
Wol Euler: somebody who wants to learn will do so despite their environment, in my experience
Wol Euler: as you did
Korel Laloix: And as we were talking about recenttly... art apprciation class.. wow.
Korel Laloix: Just one big self reinforcing dilusion.
Wol Euler: just a sec, cd player is going mad
Korel Laloix: NO worries.
Korel Laloix: Need to get mor motrin in my system.
Wol Euler: odd, I think the CD is rotting.
Korel Laloix smiles
Wol Euler: looks and feels odd, and the machine can't read it
Korel Laloix: As in the content or the actual disk?..
Wol Euler: yes, the plastic itself is degrading
Korel Laloix: Is it dirty?
Wol Euler: turning yellow
Wol Euler: no ,clean
Wol Euler: I'll try it in a computer, see if I can at least save the music off it
Korel Laloix: YOu may not want to do that.
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: If the CD is deteriorating, it might dirty your lens.
Korel Laloix: Just a thought.
Wol Euler: oh I don't think parts are falling off it
Wol Euler: but I will check that, thanks
Korel Laloix: I don't really buy to many CDs.. prefffer to just download.
Korel Laloix: But having a cope is nice sometimes.
Wol Euler: yep
Wol Euler: I haven't really bought a CD (other than as a present) in ages
Wol Euler: I buy single songs on iTunes these days
Wol Euler: and sometimes albums too, virtually
Korel Laloix: That is the easiest way really.
Korel Laloix: But you can colllect a lot of junk though.
Korel Laloix: Just like SL inventory.
Wol Euler: yep :)
Wol Euler: but on the whole, I haven't. There is probably less crap in my iTunes collection than in my physical CDs
Korel Laloix: OH OK.
Korel Laloix: I don't collect a lot of that stuff anyway.
Korel Laloix: I have sort of a need to keep things simple.
Wol Euler: like your inventory :)
Wol Euler smiles.
Korel Laloix: yes... smiles
Korel Laloix: But sort of that way RL as well.
Wol Euler nods.
Korel Laloix: br
Korel Laloix: brb
Wol Euler: all right, it's time for me to move on towards bed
Wol Euler: ah
Wol Euler: perfect timing :)
Korel Laloix: Take care.. thanks for the chat.
Wol Euler: you too! take care
Korel Laloix: Ciao bella

Through a jeweled lens
The ship sinks
Before she sails
And the wealth is
Washed away before
It is stolen
To build a vessel
An iceberg is disaster
Bought by the privileged
From a catalog
So let us justify
The parts we play
In time
Lingering
Dressing in fineries
But keeping the blessed
In-jokes
Of the servant-class
