The Guardian for this meeting was Bruce Mowbray. The comments are by Bruce Mowbray.
Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Catrina!
Catrinamonblue Resident: hi Bruce
Bruce Mowbray: You've been here before, haven't you . . . I remember, I think.
Korel Laloix: Heya
Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Kori!
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes thank you :)
Korel Laloix: Once or twice...smiles
Bruce Mowbray: kk, just thought I should check, since I'm a-wash with Ohio State's win over Michigan today.
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Korel Laloix: What game?
Bruce Mowbray: "THE Game," Kori. . .
Korel Laloix: I mean, what sport? Football?
Bruce Mowbray: OSU vs. Michigan. . . . yeah, football. But nevermind.
Korel Laloix: OK.... smiles
Korel Laloix: Shows how much I pay attention to that....
Bruce Mowbray: In other words, we can "dopr" it, since that's this week's theme.....
--BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: also, "drop" it . . . --- heh heh
Korel Laloix: dopr it?
Korel Laloix smiles
Eliza Madrigal: hard not to laugh when Bruce does
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Korel Laloix: I have had a couple of glasses of wine, so might be a bit on the tipsy side of things.
Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Eliza!
Korel Laloix: Bozho
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Eliza
Bruce Mowbray: No problem, Kori.
Eliza Madrigal: nice to see you all, boozing it up or not ;-)
Bruce Mowbray looks for wine glass....
Eliza Madrigal grins
Catrinamonblue Resident: wine sounds like a good idea, wish I had some here :)
Korel Laloix: Just pulling the last of my turkey enchiladas out of the oven... lovely smell the whole house.
Bruce Mowbray: Oh -- wonderful, Kori!
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Eliza Madrigal: whilst I am watching the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice, for the nth time
Korel Laloix: One of the best things about Thanksgiving culinary abuse.
Eliza Madrigal: hah...
Korel Laloix: Pride Prejudice and Zombies?
Korel Laloix smiles
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: :) my daughter has read that
Catrinamonblue Resident: my daughter as well :)
Korel Laloix: Erin tried to get me to read it.
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Korel Laloix: I resisted.
Eliza Madrigal: the cover is brilliant.. was tempted
Eliza Madrigal: but resisted
Korel Laloix: But Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter was surprisingly not horrible.
Bruce Mowbray: http://www.amazon.com/Pride-Prejudice-Zombies-Classic-Ultraviolent/dp/1594743347
Korel Laloix: I might sit through a movie version if they make it.
Korel Laloix: Can't wait till these cool down a bit.
Bruce Mowbray: I have to drive 50 miles each way to see any movies.... so I try to be sure I REALLY want to see them before I go.
Bruce Mowbray: What is that new one.... "Cloud Atlas"????
Eliza Madrigal: yes :)
Korel Laloix: I make two batches... ones for general consumption and one batch only insane people like to eat as they are so hot.
Korel Laloix: I heard that was not so good.
Eliza Madrigal: I liked it...
Bruce Mowbray: Oh -- I thought you meant the movies needed to "cool down a bit" -- haha
Korel Laloix: But.... I also heard, see it in a theatre due to how beautiful it is.
Bruce Mowbray: "Cloud Atlas," Eliza?
Korel Laloix: Don't wait for the rental.
Eliza Madrigal: there was a lot not good about it, but it was also wonderful
Bruce Mowbray: Then I shall definitely make the journey....
Eliza Madrigal: some cannot follow the plotlines...
Eliza Madrigal: and indeed it is twisty
Eliza Madrigal: and woven
Bruce Mowbray: There are at least four of them -- plotlines, I mean ...
Eliza Madrigal: my son did okay
Korel Laloix: I did not like the Lord of the Rings movies... but they were wonderful to see on a big screen.
Eliza Madrigal: there is often something to appreciate, but sometimes takes an angle shift
Korel Laloix: I will probably try and go see Cloud Atlas if Reeba is up for it.
Bruce Mowbray: I think it takes a special sort of intelligence to follow four different plotlines simultaneously.
Eliza Madrigal: I came away feeling the film was very meaningful and interesting that they were able to play with these insights
Eliza Madrigal: and like it was a bunch of films in one
Eliza Madrigal: but I can't disagree with criticisms either
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: "Lincoln" is worth seeing too... if one doesn't mind teachy films :)
Korel Laloix: I have been told by more than one person that "Vampire Hunter" was better and more thought provoking than the Lincoln film....
Korel Laloix: But then again, a lot of my friends consider him a genocidal psychopath.
Bruce Mowbray: He did have bouts of depression. . .
Korel Laloix: And mass murder.
Eliza Madrigal: melancholia...
Bruce Mowbray: Yeah, possibly bi-polar.... before that condition had been named.
Korel Laloix: And genocide.
Korel Laloix: And warmongering.
Korel Laloix: etc.
Eliza Madrigal: well interestingly the film didn't gloss over the idea that he might have ended the war sooner than he did
Bruce Mowbray: Hiya, Zon!
Eliza Madrigal: though generally the view was that of Team of Rivals
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Zon :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: HI Zon
Korel Laloix: Heya
Zon Kwan: hi wise ones
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bruce Mowbray: In vino veritas -- but sophia, not not so much!
Zon Kwan: which film eliza ?
--BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: How has the "dropping" theme gone this week? New insights and/or experiences?
Eliza Madrigal: "Lincoln," Zon
Zon Kwan: new film ?
Eliza Madrigal nods
Eliza Madrigal: it is well done but a bit teachy :)
Eliza Madrigal: enjoyed reading this morning's session... breathe in/breathe out (dropping/filling)
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, we were talking about recent films -- and "Cloud Atlas" and "Lincoln" were both mentioned.
Eliza Madrigal: Hello Aph ^^
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Aph!
Aphrodite Macbain: Hi
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Aph
Aphrodite Macbain: How is everyone?
Eliza Madrigal: fairly well aph, you?
Korel Laloix: Tipsy and hungry.
Zon Kwan: hi aph
Bruce Mowbray: EXCELLENT -- Ohio State just finished a perfect football season by beating Michigan!!!
Aphrodite Macbain: smiles. could be better
Eliza Madrigal: congrats Bruce :)
Bruce Mowbray: ty.
Bruce Mowbray: (but I had little - if anything - to do with it).
Bruce Mowbray: San! Hello!
Eliza Madrigal: sorry to hear aph
Aphrodite Macbain: nothing wrong with a little home team pride
Santoshima Resident: hello Bruce and everyone :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi San :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: hi San
Korel Laloix: So if I read you right Bruce, if Ohio State had ONLY beaten Michigan and lost all the other games, it still would have been a perfect season?
Eliza Madrigal: you are so colorful today San ^^
Bruce Mowbray: Well, this was the BIG GAME -- but OSU went 12-0 for the season . . .
Bruce Mowbray: and this is only the sixth time in history for that! A big deal for the brand new coach.
Bruce Mowbray: How are you today, San?
Zon Kwan: hi san
Santoshima Resident: really well, thanks ~ just finished work, sun is shining
Santoshima Resident: blue sky after days of raining
Bruce Mowbray: AHHHH! Great!
Santoshima Resident: tea soon, all is well
Santoshima Resident: you?
Bruce Mowbray: happy happy happy!
Korel Laloix: Happy Happy Joy Joy?
Korel Laloix: Wish I had an animation for that one.
Bruce Mowbray: Well, mine is just the passing happiness of a brief football victory -- not actually the "Joy" thing.
Bruce Mowbray: Also sort of sad for the Michigan folks,
Bruce Mowbray: . . . who now have to go back home feeling "defeated...."
Zon Kwan: happiness is in little things
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Bruce Mowbray: which, of course, they are NOT really defeated. . . except in one teensy game.
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, happiness in little things.
Santoshima Resident: heard TafelmusiK last night, and am still on a sonic cloud from that
Santoshima Resident: http://www.tafelmusik.org/media-room/galileo-project/galileo-overview
Bruce Mowbray: (but I needed the lift....)
Santoshima Resident: football just as good :)
Bruce Mowbray: Oh my!
Bruce Mowbray: "Music of the Spheres" . . .
Santoshima Resident: there's a little film clip i think in there
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I am watching the video now....
Bruce Mowbray: and listening -- It is heavenly!
Catrinamonblue Resident: beautiful
Eliza Madrigal listens
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Mick!
Mickorod Renard: hi Guys
Santoshima Resident: hi Mick :)
Zon Kwan: mickey!
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Mick :)
Mickorod Renard: hiya
Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Mick
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hello
Mickorod Renard: :) hello
Bruce Mowbray: Was this a live concert, San?
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Lukey :)
Korel Laloix: What is that string instrument he is holding?
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Lukey!
Lukey Woodget: Hi
Santoshima Resident: a lute
Zon Kwan: hi Lukey
Korel Laloix looks it up
Santoshima Resident: { thinking you mean the one held against the chest, Korel}
Santoshima Resident: yes, live, Bruce
Korel Laloix: Yes.
Bruce Mowbray: Is that a lute -- or a mandolin?
Korel Laloix: I think I can ID the rest from my music class.
Santoshima Resident: lute
Bruce Mowbray: http://www.tafelmusik.org/media-room/galileo-project/galileo-overview
Bruce Mowbray: Lute it is!
Zon Kwan: waves
Santoshima Resident: ciao Zon
Bruce Mowbray: Bye, Zon!
Mickorod Renard: bye zon
--BELL--
Eliza Madrigal waves to Zon
Lukey Woodget: Mickorod
Mickorod Renard: :)
Santoshima Resident: hi Lukey
Santoshima Resident: gtsy
Bruce Mowbray wonders where this concert was performed. . . .
Santoshima Resident: that one, in Banff ~ the one I saw, in West Vancouver
Bruce Mowbray: Wonderful, San!
Lukey Woodget: you got a rat crawled up your bum Mickorod
Lukey Woodget: between you and me
Mickorod Renard: I feel like it too
Bruce Mowbray: I don't see anything in their schedule until December 5th. . . on the website.
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Raffi :)
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Raffi!
Raffila Millgrove greets everyone.
Santoshima Resident: greetings Raffi
Catrinamonblue Resident: hello :)
Lukey Woodget: hi Raff
Mickorod Renard: hi raff
Lukey Woodget: what we talking about today
Bruce Mowbray ponders emptying himself of "noise" and "filling" himself with baroque chamber music....
Bruce Mowbray: Emptying and filling, I think.
Bruce Mowbray looks over at the schedule board....
Lukey Woodget: what like eating and weeing
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bruce Mowbray: Dropping and filling up?
Korel Laloix: That really was not hard to listen to. Thanks... smiles
Santoshima Resident: :)
Bruce Mowbray: There are physiological manifestations, yes. . . .
Bruce Mowbray: Fascinating - - - that to one person baroque music is heavenly - and to another it might be hard to listen to.....
Eliza Madrigal: maybe we could share our best dropping techniques - one of mine is getting really lost in something for a while... a piece of music can do that
Catrinamonblue Resident: walking in the woods
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, Eliza, and thanks for the suggestion and the example from your own experience.
Korel Laloix: walking in an open field.
Lukey Woodget: I like looking for mushrooms in the woods
Lukey Woodget: its too cold now though
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Lukey Woodget: they have all gone
Eliza Madrigal: :) love to spot the bright pink and orange ones
Korel Laloix: Can you eat those?
Eliza Madrigal: I don't.... but not sure :)
Bruce Mowbray: I love staring at the Milky Way -- on a summer's night.... from the middle of the farm's field.
Lukey Woodget: I don't know - mushrooms are very deadly
Lukey Woodget: they kill you in 3 days if you get it wrong
Korel Laloix: At least you get three days.
Lukey Woodget: and by the time you know, it's too late
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Mickorod Renard: can't think of anything positive at the moment
Bruce Mowbray: When I walked across America in 1977, I found a wilderness family in Idaho -- and we collected a whole lot of mushrooms and ate them. . .
Korel Laloix: Not read anything about fungus toxicology... might look that up.
Bruce Mowbray: and I was SICK SICK SICK for three days afterward.
Lukey Woodget: oh that sounds great fun
Mickorod Renard: :)
Bruce Mowbray: yes, it was an interesting experience.
Korel Laloix: Did you keep the recipes?
Lukey Woodget: maybe it's just that you were not used to it
Bruce Mowbray: But generally I really LOVE mushrooms.
Bruce Mowbray: They were morels.
Lukey Woodget: so many different types
Bruce Mowbray: and we cooked them in butter..
Eliza Madrigal: me too.. it is a nice 'idea' to forage
Bruce Mowbray: absolutely delicious!
Bruce Mowbray: I probably ate too many of them.
Korel Laloix: The button mushrooms you get all the time that crow on horse poop are not very good.
Lukey Woodget: i'm always foraging
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Korel Laloix: But there are great ones.
Lukey Woodget: you can grow them at home
Lukey Woodget: you can get spores on ebay
Bruce Mowbray: Really?
Catrinamonblue Resident: neat :)
Lukey Woodget: it's not too hard - you just need the right humidity and temperature
Bruce Mowbray: Mushrooms like darkness, right?
Lukey Woodget: yes
Korel Laloix: Never tried growing mushrooms.. might give it a go.
Lukey Woodget: they grow in the dark
Korel Laloix: http://thegreatmorel.com/index.shtml
Lukey Woodget: you can get a lot of different types of spores
Bruce Mowbray: Yes! Those are the ones we gathered - morels.
Lukey Woodget: strange looking thing
--BELL--
Lukey Woodget: I always wanted to try giant puff balls
Lukey Woodget: but have not yet
Lukey Woodget: I have had magic mushrooms
Santoshima Resident: Paul Stamets interview is very interesting, but quite long, worth having a look some time >
Lukey Woodget: they are really cool
Santoshima Resident: http://www.ted.com/talks/paul_stamets_on_6_ways_mushrooms_can_save_the_world.html
Santoshima Resident: and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xqdWPlramQ
Mickorod Renard: I tried some once, they were funny, all the animals everywhere were shagging each other
Lukey Woodget: TED is such a great channel
Bruce Mowbray bookmarks the TED vid on 6 ways mushrooms can save the world.
Lukey Woodget: mycelium is the biggest organism on earth i think?
Aphrodite Macbain: Me- prefer truffles - especially on pasta!
Eliza Madrigal: deep foraging
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: he he
Santoshima Resident: :)
Lukey Woodget: they are really expensive though
Lukey Woodget: i never had truffles
Eliza Madrigal: not if you have a good snout
Eliza Madrigal grins
Aphrodite Macbain: I met a truffle dog called Dick - he worked in Umbria and made a lot of money for his master.
Santoshima Resident: true!
Santoshima Resident: true, eliza
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bruce Mowbray: Three hundred MILES of mycelium!
Aphrodite Macbain: they rarely use pigs any more- I gather they tend to eat the truffles
Bruce Mowbray: Extended neurological membranes. . . .
Lukey Woodget: people are so lost to the food machine we lose so much
Aphrodite Macbain: I think I'll go outside and take advantage of dry weather.
Aphrodite Macbain: Bye all
Catrinamonblue Resident: bye Aph
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Aph - enjoy the day :)
Lukey Woodget: is it sunny there
Santoshima Resident: bye Aph
Bruce Mowbray: Have a good time out there, Aph.
Aphrodite Macbain: yes- between the clouds
Mickorod Renard: bye aph
Aphrodite Macbain: thanks
Korel Laloix: ciao
Raffila Millgrove: bye Aphro
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Lukey Woodget: she is going to look for mushrooms i bet
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: Best time for that is in the early spring.
Eliza Madrigal: must be, Lukey
Santoshima Resident: good day for it, like spring here
Mickorod Renard: i saw lots on my lawn the other day
Bruce Mowbray: Hmmmm.
Lukey Woodget: it's winter here
Lukey Woodget: whipping up a storm
Bruce Mowbray wishes he were in Vancouver. . . .
Lukey Woodget: I love seeing things like that in the garden
Eliza Madrigal: resources everywhere
Santoshima Resident: yes
Lukey Woodget: does anybody watch doomsday preppers on tv?
Bruce Mowbray: The largest organism in the world is in eastern Oregon . . . (the TED vid says). . . .
Bruce Mowbray: Tell us more, Lukey.
Mickorod Renard: i cant be doin with weird stuff these days
Eliza Madrigal: sound a little on edge Mick
Lukey Woodget: it's people who prep for if there is a disaster
Mickorod Renard: yea
Lukey Woodget: its quite interesting
Lukey Woodget: its on National Geographic
Mickorod Renard: i wondered about stocking a few bags of rice
Eliza Madrigal: will look for that ... probably a lot of people in the NE who will watch that show more closely now
Eliza Madrigal: (New England, US)
Catrinamonblue Resident: bye all
Bruce Mowbray: I also have trouble with the apocalyptic mind-set. . . . but if you want to save your family, I can understand it.
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Catrina :)
Mickorod Renard: i wondered how long a supply i would need before everyone else was dead
Lukey Woodget: well in Japan when that disaster struck the supermarket shelves where cleared in 3 days
Eliza Madrigal: well how are you cooking the rice Mick?
Santoshima Resident: bye Cat ~ take good care
Raffila Millgrove: bye Catrina
Bruce Mowbray: Bye, Cat!
Mickorod Renard: i would stash some water too
Eliza Madrigal: yes... Hurricane Andrew was the same... amazing even when time to prepare things run out fast
Eliza Madrigal: we just don't realize
Eliza Madrigal: how fragile it all is
Eliza Madrigal: I look around and everything looks quite sturdy ...
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Lukey Woodget: If the supply of goods broke down we would be just a few meals away from starving
Raffila Millgrove waves goodbye to all. Have a great weekend everyone.
Mickorod Renard: for sure
Eliza Madrigal: Nice to see you Raffi
Santoshima Resident: bye raffi
Mickorod Renard: bye raff
Bruce Mowbray: Bye, Raffi!
Eliza Madrigal: time for me to move on too actually
Eliza Madrigal: but nice to see you all
Bruce Mowbray: Good to see you, Eliza!
Eliza Madrigal waves

Mickorod Renard: bye San
Bruce Mowbray: Bye, san!
Mickorod Renard: I should go too, I am not so well at the mom
