Bleu Oleander: 's current display-name is "Bleu".
    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: 's current display-name is "Eliza".
Catrinamonblue Resident: 's current display-name is "Catrinamonblue".
    Eliza Madrigal: Mornin' ladies
Bleu Oleander: hi Eliza, Cat :)
    Catrinamonblue Resident: morning :)
Bleu Oleander: how are u both?
Eliza Madrigal: slowly waking, drinking grapefruit juice
    Eliza Madrigal: you?
    Catrinamonblue Resident: well enough :)
Bleu Oleander: same only coffee :)
    Bleu Oleander: early here
Eliza Madrigal: normally I've been up for a few hours by this time but slept in :)
Bleu Oleander: never have the luxury of sleeping in :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: :) slept in here as well, lazy morning
Bleu Oleander: pups wake up same time EVERY day
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Catrinamonblue Resident: that's why I have cats :)
    Bleu Oleander: good reason!
Eliza Madrigal: actually my cat acts as an alarm clock quite often... panics if everyone isn't up for school
Catrinamonblue Resident: though they tend to have a routine as well but can be ignored to a certain amount
Eliza Madrigal: starts coming to the doors
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Bleu Oleander: we have an interesting speaker coming to talk at ASU
    Bleu Oleander: Donna Haraway
    Bleu Oleander: on multispecies relationships
    Eliza Madrigal: whoa cool
    Catrinamonblue Resident: googling
    Bleu Oleander: multispecies attachment
Eliza Madrigal: can you say a bit more about it?
    Bleu Oleander: intra-patience
Bleu Oleander: general human ignorance about other species
Bleu Oleander: i'm not well versed in the subject
Bleu Oleander: so looking forward to her lecture
Bleu Oleander: I think its really a new field of interest
Eliza Madrigal: look forward to what you may share
Bleu Oleander: coming up march 5
    Catrinamonblue Resident: looks interesting
Eliza Madrigal: I see she is also interested in technology so including "cyborg" in "other species?"
Bleu Oleander: she has a book "When Species Meet"
    Bleu Oleander: yes cyborgs too
Eliza Madrigal: Sociologists and academics from around the world have taken her lead and come to the same conclusion about themselves. In terms of the general shift from thinking of individuals as isolated from the "world" to thinking of them as nodes on networks, the 1990s may well be remembered as the beginning of the cyborg era.
Eliza Madrigal: will read the whole article http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/5...ffharaway.html
    Bleu Oleander: ty!
Bleu Oleander: professor of the history of consciousness - sounds like an interesting area of study!
    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: seems many are working on making that shift from thinking in terms of isolated selves :)
Bleu Oleander: so this conversation is in keeping with this week's theme :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bleu Oleander: other in terms of species
Bleu Oleander: it's interesting to think about how we divide beings into species
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Bleu Oleander: when you consider that at no time was an offspring substantially different than it's parents
Eliza Madrigal: and that we don't seem to do it without also assigning 'value' which maybe we're rethinking (in terms of society)
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Eliza Madrigal: that's why I'm enjoying Andrew Solomon's "Far From the Tree" book
Bleu Oleander: any ideas you can share from it?
Eliza Madrigal: his focus is families who DO have a child very different from them, whether in terms of abilities or sexuality/gender etc
Eliza Madrigal: and he highlighs people/families who have come through sometimes hard processes to accept diversities as that and keep love and connection
Bleu Oleander: it's our culture that makes those differences greater than they are perhaps?
    Eliza Madrigal: exactly
Eliza Madrigal: many parents have difficulty accepting their kids not because of they themselves but their fears about that child's future in society
    Bleu Oleander: yes
    Catrinamonblue Resident: nods
Bleu Oleander: perhaps live to closely through their children
Eliza Madrigal: yes... one of the hardest angles he comes from is that of a parent whose child commits a terrible crime
    Bleu Oleander: ah yes
Eliza Madrigal: and how the parent is seen as responsible for their child's behavior
Bleu Oleander: although many factors involved, parents do play a role
Eliza Madrigal: the factors... there are just so many
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Catrinamonblue Resident: it is hard to have a child that you feel is going to have a hard time when they grow up because society is what it is.
Bleu Oleander: society is very fluid though
Eliza Madrigal: yes - maybe we are changing though - not quickly, but changing
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Bleu Oleander: we tend to see things as static sometimes
    Bleu Oleander: even ourselves
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes society is changing and this child will have an easier time than his father who is similar in temperament
Bleu Oleander: more fluidity than we can handle perhaps?
Eliza Madrigal: more than we can take in, yes... and there is a processing time delay - also between the rate at which we accept our own changes vs accept changes in others :)

Bleu Oleander: btw, i'm reading a fascinating book, "Louder than words"
Bleu Oleander: how the mind makes meaning
    Bleu Oleander: about embodied simulation
    --BELL--

Bleu Oleander: I mention this because it is interesting how people communicate
Bleu Oleander: he ties our thoughts to much older brain systems
Bleu Oleander: shows how our thoughts are created from our individual experiences in the world
Bleu Oleander: so hard to know if your thoughts can be successfully transferred to another
Bleu Oleander: fascinating to think about
    Catrinamonblue Resident: smiles
Bleu Oleander: so parents try to communicate with their children
Bleu Oleander: their children have a dif set of experiences
Catrinamonblue Resident: ha not so easy with teenagers :)
Eliza Madrigal: even side by side in the same house
    Bleu Oleander: yes!
Eliza Madrigal: wildly different views of what is going on and why
    Bleu Oleander: yes
    Catrinamonblue Resident: yes
Bleu Oleander: but interesting to think that our physical experiences in the world impact our thoughts
Bleu Oleander: how our language uses our relationships of our body to the world to create meaning
Eliza Madrigal: yesterday we touched on architecture's effects on mindset
    Bleu Oleander: oh yes
Bleu Oleander: even virtual architecture does
    Bleu Oleander: hi Wol
Eliza Madrigal: movement does affect thoughts, which seems logical, but when you SEE it - amazing
    Catrinamonblue Resident: morning Wol :)
Wol Euler: afternoon all, sorry I'
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Wol, timely - hah
    Wol Euler: I'm late
Eliza Madrigal: wol in a flowy dress! you look lovely
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Bleu Oleander: yes!
    Wol Euler: thank you
Catrinamonblue Resident: movement - rocking a baby to sleep
Catrinamonblue Resident: has an effect on the mother too
    Eliza Madrigal: mmmm
Eliza Madrigal takes time to process changes in Wol ;-)
    Wol Euler smiles.
Eliza Madrigal: peeked at an article this morning about the attraction of beauty - not really anything new but the way we're genetically drawn to spirals
    Wol Euler: hmmmm
Eliza Madrigal: that seems underlying movement we aren't seeing AS movement when we look at it?
Bleu Oleander: spirals seem more like movement to me than not
    Wol Euler nods.
Eliza Madrigal: well in the article it was sort of about being drawn to spirals we don't see as spirals when being attracted
    Wol Euler: secret spirals?
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Bleu Oleander: so attracted subconsciously?
    Bleu Oleander: to the movement?
    --BELL--

    Eliza Madrigal: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/17/op...me&ref=general
Xirana Oximoxi: 's current display-name is "Xirana".
Eliza Madrigal: yes - fractals and such
    Xirana Oximoxi: hello everyone:)
    Bleu Oleander: hi Xiri :)
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Xiri
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Xiri :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
Bleu Oleander: ty Eliza will read later :)
Eliza Madrigal: so much to read - apologies :))
Bleu Oleander: yes one could easily fill up many days with all the interesting things to read!
    Wol Euler: hello xir
Xirana Oximoxi: I've won a full Art House...witn 'thousands' of amazing works of SL artists (I am so happy that just wanted to share it :))
    Eliza Madrigal: what?!
    Wol Euler: oh congratulations
    Xirana Oximoxi: ty:)
    Eliza Madrigal: Congratulations Xiri!
    Bleu Oleander: wow congrats
Eliza Madrigal: what is Art House?
    Bleu Oleander: yes?
    Catrinamonblue Resident: congrats Xiri
Xirana Oximoxi: it was a kind of auction to collect money to help children...http://www.pfh.org/artc/ a lot of artists donate a works and then one person gets it all :)..I've bought some numbers, and I've won :)
    Bleu Oleander: wow
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
    Eliza Madrigal: wow, that's wonderful
Bleu Oleander: so when is the party?
    Wol Euler grins.
Xirana Oximoxi: I've rented a piece of land to show it...if you want I give you the LM
    Wol Euler: please
    Catrinamonblue Resident: please
    Bleu Oleander: great ty!
    Wol Euler: ty
    Eliza Madrigal: ty Xiri
    Xirana Oximoxi: yw:)
Xirana Oximoxi: some works I did buy before...
Bleu Oleander: would love to have a tour sometime
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
Bleu Oleander: when you get settled in :)
Xirana Oximoxi: I've rented for a week....:)
    Eliza Madrigal: oh :)
Bleu Oleander: you should come to the beach and buy some land there near us :)
Xirana Oximoxi: well..it would be nice to build a kind of museum.... maybe I'll do one day
Eliza Madrigal: the beach is so nice... been forever since I've been over there
Bleu Oleander: several of us still there :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Xirana Oximoxi: where is the beach...do they also rent land?
    Agatha Macbeth: The beach eh?
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Agatha!
    Xirana Oximoxi: hello AGA :)
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Agatha
Wol Euler: I am selling a large block of land (will subdivide) at teh seaside in Mugunghwa
    Agatha Macbeth: Sandy shores?
Wol Euler: where the PaB village was first established
    Wol Euler: hello aggers
Agatha Macbeth: How much of Mugunghwa is left now?
Bleu Oleander: would be nice to keep it in the PaB family Wol
Wol Euler: in my hands? a half
Agatha Macbeth: Oh, not so bad
Wol Euler: well, I am willing to give it to anyone who will take it
Bleu Oleander: I will take some and I think Paradise will too
    Wol Euler: great!
Bleu Oleander: so let us know
Xirana Oximoxi: to buy land one must have a premium account, I think..I have not
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Wol Euler: well consider this the formal notice!
Wol Euler: tell me what you want
Eliza Madrigal: I like the idea of that but the timing isn't that great for me now
Eliza Madrigal: also not a premium member :)
Bleu Oleander: ok maybe after this session?
    Wol Euler: ure
    Wol Euler: *sure
    Agatha Macbeth: Midge?
    Wol Euler: ultravox!
    Agatha Macbeth: Yay!!
Bleu Oleander: maybe some other PaBers would be interested?
    Wol Euler grins.
Agatha Macbeth: Never forget the exclamation mark
Wol Euler: I'll ask again in the mail group, Bleu, but last time I asked there was very little response
Bleu Oleander: maybe we should have a party there
Agatha Macbeth: Selling more land Wollie?
Wol Euler: selling all of it
    Agatha Macbeth: All?
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh nooo
Wol Euler: I'll keep my own parcel at the waterfront, that is free under my premium account anyway
Bleu Oleander: are all the sublets leaving too?
Agatha Macbeth: Even your beach house?
Wol Euler: no, keping the beach house
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah, good
Wol Euler: I spoke to Gaya, she has left SL in all but name. She hasn't even got the viewer software any more
Wol Euler: Corvi is as good as never here.
    Agatha Macbeth: :(((
    Bleu Oleander: Storm?
Eliza Madrigal: it was fun those days we went to your place from here after session Bleu... with Boxy and his car that said "Sorry" if one ran into it with a horse
Wol Euler: Adams is buying her piece, the owner of the Vox skybox store is buying hers
    Bleu Oleander: :)
    --BELL--

Wol Euler: haven't heard what Storm and Jobe want to do
Agatha Macbeth: I think stormy did mention something about giving up his place there yes
Bleu Oleander: wow will be lonely :(
Wol Euler: it hurts to give that up
Wol Euler: I became quite attached to "my land" over the years
    Bleu Oleander: yes
    Bleu Oleander: haha me too
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
Agatha Macbeth: You'll still have Adams yes?
Wol Euler: adams is buying her lot plus some adjacent ground
Bleu Oleander: so how will that impact your sl experience?
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh good :)
    Wol Euler: negatively, bleu
    Bleu Oleander: I can imagine
Agatha Macbeth: And Salina's still there
Wol Euler: even if the new owners don't want to level it and put up porn stores
Bleu Oleander: well you can hang out at my place hehe
Wol Euler: I'm keeping my own plot :) but thanks
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Agatha Macbeth: The discreet charms of the bourgoisie eh?
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Eliza Madrigal: you don't really build a lot in SL Wol, right? so what is the attachment to the place?
    Wol Euler: "mine-ness" :)
Bleu Oleander: attachment to place ....
    Wol Euler: just that :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: :))
Bleu Oleander: power in some sense
Agatha Macbeth: I'm attatched to it, and it isn't even mine :p
Wol Euler: hard to put it in words, really
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
    Eliza Madrigal nods
    Agatha Macbeth understands
Bleu Oleander: avatar land barons hehe
Wol Euler: I may feel this more strongly than you because I rent in RL, and always have done
    Eliza Madrigal: virtual ownership, hm
Bleu Oleander: once you have it hard to part with it
Wol Euler: this is the only time and place that I've owned land
    Bleu Oleander: ah very interesting
Wol Euler: apartments have very low "mine-ness"
Bleu Oleander: also there is a sense for me that I couldn't afford beachfront property in rl but can in sl
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes that makes sense
Agatha Macbeth: Can relate to that Wollie
    Wol Euler nods.
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Bleu Oleander: it's also interesting that sl property isn't that interesting unless others visit you there ... for me anyway
Eliza Madrigal: sometimes I've thought of having a place but I always attach it to building
Bleu Oleander: don't need to build
Xirana Oximoxi: yes... I agree Bleu :)
    Wol Euler nods.
Bleu Oleander: but hard to resist doing that
Wol Euler: I put up my beach house on the first week or so that I rented, before buying even
Eliza Madrigal: :) 'others' bring the place to life
Wol Euler: and haven't really built anything since
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Xirana Oximoxi: I do like to build a little and to put plants , flowers, ...snow etc.
    Agatha Macbeth: Mmm
Bleu Oleander: i've re-build dozens of times
Eliza Madrigal: I feel attached to the tea hut so I shouldn't be so quick to question anything :)
Bleu Oleander: fun to clear and start over
Wol Euler: I just looked it up, I bought the land from Pema in September 2009
Bleu Oleander: wish I could do that in rl
Agatha Macbeth: Same month I arrived!
    Wol Euler: heheh
Eliza Madrigal imagines living next door to Bleu in Rl and seeing new house transformations
Bleu Oleander: I remember Storm first walking me over to the beach area
Wol Euler: "coincidence? I think not!"
    Agatha Macbeth: Indeed
Bleu Oleander: ha! only in imagination Eliza
    Eliza Madrigal: heheh
Wol Euler: yeah, RL is harder to re-do
Agatha Macbeth: Especially if you get it wrong...
Eliza Madrigal: the village used to spread through a forest also... which was a sweet area
Bleu Oleander: would love to put rl back into inventory hehe
Xirana Oximoxi: yes...very different in rl :)
    Eliza Madrigal: haha Bleu
    Wol Euler nods.
Eliza Madrigal: you've got the reincarnation thing down, lol
Bleu Oleander: but then my rl inventory would look as cluttered as my sl inventory ha!
Wol Euler: heh, putting our bodies back into inventory and changing avatar
    Eliza Madrigal: hehehe
    Bleu Oleander: yes
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Erk
Catrinamonblue Resident: gtg time to get moving here in RL :)
    Catrinamonblue Resident: bye all
    Bleu Oleander: ok bye Cat
    Bleu Oleander: take care
Eliza Madrigal: bye Catrina, have a nice day
Xirana Oximoxi: I'm a powerful art colecter now...I feel like theBaronesa Tiissen :))
    Bleu Oleander: haha!
    Wol Euler cheers!
    Eliza Madrigal surrounded by moguls
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
    Bleu Oleander: hehe
Wol Euler: oh, didn't see cat leaveing
Xirana Oximoxi: me either, bye bye Cat :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Bye Cat
    Agatha Macbeth: ^.^
Xirana Oximoxi: ok...I'll go to see my propieties for a while....if you want to come:)
    Bleu Oleander: sure
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Agatha Macbeth: Everybody's doing it :p
Eliza Madrigal: then will sign off to ready for picnic with friend's puppy today
    Wol Euler: great idea
Wol Euler: even better idea! heheh
    --BELL--

Xirana Oximoxi: let's go then :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
    Bleu Oleander: ok
    Eliza Madrigal: thanks Bleu
Eliza Madrigal: see you all at Xiri's
Wol Euler: aggers, we are going to see xir's new art collection, I'
    Wol Euler: I
    Bleu Oleander: thanks everyone
