DR42 Resident: Not the spy folks, Culinary Institute of America
Korel Laloix: lol.. smiles.. I was wondering?.. smiles.. but what did you do to your knees?
DR42 Resident: Fell, landed the wrong way. Both have been operated on. I cannot stand in a working kitchen long enough.
Korel Laloix: oo.. sounds painful.. hope things are as Ok as they can be.
DR42 Resident: Yea, they are. I just had to give up my career as an olympic skier. (Not)
Korel Laloix: Skiing sounds many shades of unfun anyway.
DR42 Resident: No dreams last night for me. I managed to not sleep.
    Korel Laloix: http://www2.ciachef.edu
DR42 Resident: I have never even tried to ski.
Korel Laloix: Me neither.. well snow skiing at least.

DR42 Resident: That was the place...
DR42 Resident: I have taken a few classes there, back when they weren't real expensive.
Korel Laloix: Making me hungry looking at the website though...
    Bleu Oleander: haha!
    --BELL--
Korel Laloix: I put some enchiladas in the micro to heat up.. yumm.. the perfect breakfast.... smiles
    Bleu Oleander: that you made?
DR42 Resident: One of my friends got the clue that I was a foodie when they visited and found that I had 5 different kinds of paprika in my spice cabinet, which is actually 3 cabinets.
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Korel Laloix: Yes... smiles... even made the tortillas...
    Bleu Oleander impressed!
DR42 Resident: Awesome. Scratch cooking is really healthy.
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Korel Laloix: Only if you do it wrong...
    Korel Laloix: lol
Korel Laloix: When I make comfort food, I want comfort food... smiles
    Bleu Oleander: hehe
Bleu Oleander: funny phrase "comfort food"
Bleu Oleander: what do we really mean by that?
DR42 Resident: Stuffed baked potatoes can be healthy, but I add too much butter and sour cream.
Korel Laloix: Food that I just want to sit down and stuff myself with because I am depressed or moody.
Bleu Oleander: and does it help?
Korel Laloix: (not that that ever happens)
    Korel Laloix: Wonderfully.
DR42 Resident: Ben and Jerry;s "Cherries garcia", or meatloaf.
Korel Laloix: But yes, when I do want something nice and light, I like to go from scratch and with minimal processing.
    DR42 Resident: Bangers and mash.
Korel Laloix: I can't have icecream raelly.. at least good icecream.
Bleu Oleander: often times comfort food has some guilt associated with it ... so often makes me feel worse afterwards
Korel Laloix: But I do love meatloaf.
Bleu Oleander: never have found a meatloaf I could like lol
DR42 Resident: I have a meatloaf cookbook. 52 different recipes.
Bleu Oleander: I can imagine there are as many recipes of meatloaf as there are people making it :)
Korel Laloix: Well, the name is not really appetizing to start off with.
    Bleu Oleander: exactly haha
Catrinamonblue Resident: 's current display-name is "Catrinamonblue".
DR42 Resident: "bubble and squeak" isn;'t either, but it is comfort food for many.
    Bleu Oleander: hiya Cat

DR42 Resident: Mostly, I do Asian and Indian food. The hotter the better.
Korel Laloix: Would love to get back down that direction on a nother bike trip.
Bleu Oleander: I love Indian food
chabbasharma Resident: 's current display-name is "chabbasharma".
Catrinamonblue Resident: I'm not one for cooking, I avoid it as much as I can. Although I can cook anything from a recipe

    Bleu Oleander: hi chab
    Korel Laloix: Heya

    Catrinamonblue Resident: HI Chab
    chabbasharma Resident: yeah once
chabbasharma Resident: y dont ya guys come on voice?

Bleu Oleander: we've been talking about cooking, meatloaf and cooking schools Zen
Zen Arado: oh not my cup of tes :)
    Zen Arado: tea
Korel Laloix: Are there tea schools?
DR42 Resident: I wonder how much the cusine of an area affects the culture and thought?
    Korel Laloix: Or the reverse.
Bleu Oleander: I think it is very reflective of the culture
DR42 Resident: There is a tea shop near me that does classes.
Bleu Oleander: yes one near me also
Bleu Oleander: probably the reverse as well
Bleu Oleander: was just reading an article on how much our environment creates who we are
Eliza Madrigal: 's current display-name is "Eliza".
    Zen Arado: Hi Eliza
    Bleu Oleander: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/16/op...f=opinion&_r=0
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Eliza
    Bleu Oleander: hi Eliza
    Eliza Madrigal: Hello everyone :)
Zen Arado: everything creates who we are doesn't it?
Bleu Oleander: we're talking about food and culture
    Bleu Oleander: and meatloaf haha
    Eliza Madrigal: great!
    Eliza Madrigal: er..
    Eliza Madrigal: lol
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Bleu Oleander: [07:36] -- Maude -- (dr42): I wonder how much the cusine of an area affects the culture and thought?
Zen Arado: I have a headache from trying to work with music creation programs
    Zen Arado: they are incomprehensible
Eliza Madrigal: food and culture seems very intertwined... defined by geography until rather recently
DR42 Resident: I think environment (climate) has an impact on cusine. Places that have hot temps tend to use spicy dishes, due to spoilage.
Korel Laloix: Another sad casualty of globalization.
Zen Arado: yes and people eat more fat in cold climates
Eliza Madrigal nods... and whether one is near the sea etc
Bleu Oleander: I think that's how cuisines started although no longer true perhaps
Bleu Oleander: we have lots of great fish in AZ ha!
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
    Bleu Oleander: flown in fresh
Zen Arado: we rely on transport so much for food
Eliza Madrigal: there are many efforts to preserve food cultures
Bleu Oleander: movement though to eat local
DR42 Resident: Zen, what programs are you using?
Bleu Oleander: trying to do that more often
Zen Arado: I have just tried four
Zen Arado: mix craft, Lmms, FL Studio and Reaper
    Bleu Oleander: I use garageband
Bleu Oleander: found it pretty easy to use
Zen Arado: you can't use on Windows
    Bleu Oleander: right
Zen Arado: mix craft is easy but it limits what you can do
    --BELL--
Korel Laloix: (going to go clean up.. take care all)
    Zen Arado: byee Kori
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Bye Korel
    Zen Arado: Hi Sunji :)
Bleu Oleander: btw, very interesting conversation that included some thoughts on music here: http://bloggingheads.tv/videos/19057...tv+%28video%29
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Sun
Bleu Oleander: bye Kori .... hi Sunji
szavanna Resident: 's current display-name is "Sunshine".

Zen Arado: I was just telling them I have a headache from trying to figure out Reaper
DR42 Resident: I found one on sourceforge, iirc, that was OK. Cannot remember the name, however.
szavanna Resident: ahh so I am at the music end?
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Zen Arado: I think my basic computer literacy weaknesses show up
    szavanna Resident: :)
Zen Arado: it's like they start to speak in a foreign language I have never learned
    DR42 Resident: http://musescore.org/
Zen Arado: I don't think I could face another one Aaude
    Zen Arado: Maude
Zen Arado: not at the moment :-)
szavanna Resident: Zenji - are you still busy with FL Studio?
Zen Arado: know I was just saying I have been working with Reaper for two days
    szavanna Resident: wow
    szavanna Resident: so its complex?
Zen Arado: and haven't produced a note yet
szavanna Resident: Juni said its really advanced
szavanna Resident: aww you need to be brave for these programs
Zen Arado: I can't even get the sample to run because it's the wrong file or something
szavanna Resident: not easy to get though the basics
Zen Arado: you need to have a lots of perseverance
    szavanna Resident: ah ;(
szavanna Resident: you must try fl studio :)
Zen Arado: I did try it last
Zen Arado: I was getting somewhere with it I think
szavanna Resident: and how was it?
    szavanna Resident: yay
Bleu Oleander: you might look here: http://www.lynda.com/REAPER-tutorial...ducttypeid%3a2
Bleu Oleander: I find their courses very good
Zen Arado: yes that's what I was working with Bleu
    Bleu Oleander: with Lynda?
DR42 Resident: musescore is very different. You score the work, assign voices, and it will play it for you.
Zen Arado: it didn't get me up and running though :-)
    Bleu Oleander: awww
    szavanna Resident: takes time
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Zen Arado: it's like they're speaking English and suddenly switch to some computer geek language
szavanna Resident: but once you know it ...its easy
Bleu Oleander: I find I have no patience with computer programs
Bleu Oleander: want to be an expert right away lol
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
szavanna Resident: I am doing well with the FL Studio tutorials on youtube
DR42 Resident: Too many times, they only way to use some programs is to learn to think like the author(s).
Zen Arado: I don't even know what DAW means
Zen Arado: digital audio something I guess
    szavanna Resident: hmm dunno :)
Eliza Madrigal: will see you guys in the village hall in a few minutes :) Maude, please feel free to come, hugs and thanks
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
    Bleu Oleander: digital audio workstation
Zen Arado: and the manual is out of date because the controls have changed
Zen Arado: ah yes but it is full of terminology like that
    DR42 Resident: Digital Audio Workstations
    szavanna Resident: ah is it
    Zen Arado: Asio4 all drivers
Zen Arado: just to get my external soundcard to work isn't easy
Zen Arado: I don't understand all of these ports and things
Bleu Oleander: perhaps we should make our way to the Hall ...
Zen Arado: and what settings to use
Bleu Oleander: thanks for the conversation today
    Bleu Oleander: c u there
szavanna Resident: ok see you all there °͜° ty Bleuji :)
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
    Zen Arado: bye Bleu
