[19:05] Paradise Tennant: The Quiet World

In an effort to get people to look into each other's eyes more,
and also to appease the mutes,
the government has decided to allot each person
exactly one hundred and sixty-seven words, per day.

When the phone rings, I put it to my ear without saying hello.

In the restaurant I point at chicken noodle soup.
I am adjusting well to the new way.

Late at night, I call my long distance lover,
proudly say I only used fifty-nine today. I saved the rest for you.

When she doesn't respond, I know she's used up all her words,
so I slowly whisper I love you thirty-two and a third times.

After that, we just sit on the line and listen to each other breathe.
    Jeffrey McDaniel

[19:05] Paradise Tennant: it is quiet tonight so I am posting poems about quiet :)

    [19:06] Paradise Tennant:
    Poetry By Pablo Neruda

    Keeping Quiet

Now we will count to twelve
and we will all keep still.
This one time upon the earth,
    let's not speak any language,
    let's stop for one second,
and not move our arms so much.

It would be a delicious moment,
    without hurry,
    without locomotives,
all of us would be together
    in a sudden uneasiness.

The fishermen in the cold sea
would do no harm to the whales
    and the peasant gathering salt
would look at his torn hands.

    Those who prepare green wars,
wars of gas, wars of fire,
    victories without survivors,
    would put on clean clothing
    and would walk alongside
    their brothers in the shade,
    without doing a thing.

What I want shouldn't be confused
    with final inactivity:
    life alone is what matters,
I want nothing to do with death.

    If we weren't unanimous
    about keeping our lives
    so much in motion,
if we could do nothing for once,
    perhaps a great silence
    would interrupt this sadness,
    this never un
    derstanding ourselves
    and threatening ourselves with death,
perhaps the earth is teaching us
when everything seems to be dead
    and then everything is alive.

Now I will count to twelve
and you keep quiet and I'll go.

-from Full Woman, Fleshly Apple, Hot Moon Translated by Stephen Mitchell

    [19:12] Paradise Tennant:

    Quiet Night Thoughts
    by Li Bai

The moonlight glistens in front of my bed.

I thought it was the frost on the ground.
I lift my gaze to view the shimmering moon,
Then lower my head, and miss my homeland.

About the Poet Li Bai (701 - 762 AD) is one of China’s most famous poets. He lived during China’s golden age of poetry. He traveled widely and met many scholars and even briefly became an official poet for the emperor.

    [19:15] Paradise Tennant:
    The Lovely Night

Now I leave this little hut,
    Where my beloved lives,
    Walking now with veiled steps
    Through the shadowy leaves.

Luna shines through bush and oak,
    Zephyr proclaims her path,
And the birch trees bowing low
    Shed incense on her track.

    How beautiful the coolness
    Of this lovely summer night!
How the soul fills with happiness
In this true place of quiet!

I can scarcely grasp the bliss!
    Yet, Heaven, I would shun
    A thousand nights like this,
    If my darling granted one.

    - Goethe

    [19:20] Paradise Tennant:

quiet places...... open up your wings, and fly to me, you better watch the currents, and all the trash that love can bring.

open up heart and give it one last try, theres a river on this land, and plenty of air to breath.

open up your arms, and take hold of me, ill be the bed that you lay on, and the food that you eat.

open up your eyes, and dry those tears, ill be the lover who stays, and you my queen.

    - DAVID GERARDINO

    [19:21] Paradise Tennant:

I often seek a quiet place where weeping willows nod,
Where I can leave the world behind and seek the voice of God.

I dare not speak while I am there for this is holy ground,
And yet God hears my silent prayer and there’s no need for sound.

I feel the sun upon my face, the wind upon my hair,
And He who holds the stars in place renews my spirit there.

I hear the trickle of the stream, the buzzing of the bee,
And I’m awake throughout the dream that He reveals to me.

My senses let me know He’s there, unseen — yet face to face,

Bound by faith and love and prayer in my holy, quiet place.

    ~ Clay Harrison

    [19:22] Paradise Tennant:

    Quiet Place

I wish to escape the noisy world,
to go to a quiet place,
instead of hearing this electric whirled,
where we can talk face to face.

Whoever you are, be daring and bold,
the same goes for me let's agree,
to explore the street of old,
for that quiet place to flee.

Can't wait to meet whoever you are,
Until then I'll keep wishing on God's shining star.

    By Annie Laurie Gray

    [19:28] Paradise Tennant:

    A Quiet Place by Lovely

Whispering winds that echo's in my mind
    Stalking sea breezes Trees,
    tall trees towering above me
Manipulating my soul to be still very still

    In a Quiet place
I light two candles, one at a time
Standing between them both hoping to find
    A quiet place
Where I can indulge into complete style shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
A Quiet place, where there is no laughter
No pain, no smoke, no hard rain
    A quiet place, I'll sustain
    A quiet place, I'll proclaim
A quiet place, just for me
    A quiet place for eternity!
