Ten guardians were present for this week's session: : Agatha Macbeth : Bleu Oleander : Eliza Madrigal : Eos Amaterasu : Maxine Walden : Pema Pera : Qt Core : Yakuzza Lethecus : Zen Arado : doug Sosa
To Eliza, this was an 'unsual and interesting' guardian session. We explored boundaries and harmonies of nature and development, of 'kami' and 'humanity', of PaB and real life. By the end we had our hard-hats on, and Bleu had designed us hammers. :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey maxine
Maxine Walden: hi, Yaku
Maxine Walden: hi, Eliza of the beautiful forest green gown
Maxine Walden: hi, Pema
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey pema, doug
Yakuzza Lethecus: hmm
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Maxine :)), Hi Ya, Pema, Doug ... trying out various cushions to see which seems best today. haha...
Pema Pera: good morning (had difficulty getting into SL)
Eliza Madrigal: guess the seat next to maxine is saved :)
Agatha Macbeth: Hello everybody
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Agatha :))
Eliza Madrigal: Hey, Blue
doug Sosa: :)
Maxine Walden: hi, Agatha
Agatha Macbeth: Hi Liz :))
Bleu Oleander: hey everyone!
Agatha Macbeth: Nice dress
Eliza Madrigal: smiles. Thank you :)
Eliza Madrigal: waves to Zen and Eos then pops away for a second....
Zen Arado: Hi all:)
Maxine Walden: hi, bleu, doug
doug Sosa: hi
Pema Pera: waves to everybody
Eos Amaterasu: ~ ~ ~Maxine Walden: (Eos? waves?)
Eos Amaterasu: yes :-)
Maxine Walden: haha, very nice!
Bleu Oleander: nice waves!
Eos Amaterasu: or else raises many eyebrows
Pema Pera: _-_-_-_-_
Maxine Walden: hmm, ? Pema, another version of waves or wave functions?
Maxine Walden: or Morse code for something?
Agatha Macbeth: Tsunami?
Pema Pera: ____|
Pema Pera: (as tsunami)
Eos Amaterasu: yikes!
Maxine Walden: ah...big wave!
Agatha Macbeth: YepPema Pera: does anybody have a topic for today that they would like to discuss?
Pema Pera: picturing an ocean without any waves . . . .
Agatha Macbeth: Or tsunamis
Bleu Oleander: calm early morning ocean
Pema Pera: `pacific'
doug Sosa: i wonder if the heat beat came from waves in our ocen going days as fsh and such.
Pema Pera: /me trying to parse doug . . . .
Zen Arado: tries not to create any waves.....
Maxine Walden: heart beat, doug?
doug Sosa: sorry, our ocean..
Eos Amaterasu: pacific beats in the heat....
doug Sosa: the heart is a relay for amplifying the waves that pulsed through us.
doug Sosa: We habe no good words (that i can recall) for the nexus of nature and human nature.
Eos Amaterasu: kami?
doug Sosa: source for kami?
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Qt :)
Qt Core: hi all
Agatha Macbeth: Hello QT :)
Eos Amaterasu: spirit in nature, manifesting to human
Zen Arado: thought it was indifference :)
Bleu Oleander: hi Qt
Zen Arado: hi Qt
Eos Amaterasu: being as nature being as human
Zen Arado: lack of environmental awareness
Zen Arado: sometning to be expoited
Eos Amaterasu: sensory numbness to natural arising
Zen Arado: to be dominated
Maxine Walden: ah, sounds as if different perspectives about the same term? Oh, maybe not...
Zen Arado: to serve human ends only
Zen Arado: seems the reality of it to me
Zen Arado: unfortunately
Eos Amaterasu: doug Sosa: We have no good words (that i can recall) for the nexus of nature and human nature
Eos Amaterasu: so there's the dom side
Eos Amaterasu: and the care side
Zen Arado: male/female perspectives?
Agatha Macbeth: ??
Zen Arado: about the environment?
Pema Pera: a sense of ecology may be connected with a shift from having to being -- inter-being
Pema Pera: having puts a barrier
Pema Pera: between who has what
Zen Arado: yes - respect and cooperation
Zen Arado: empathy
Zen Arado: for Mother Earth
Zen Arado: like children growing up and learning to take care of their parent
Zen Arado: am I talking nonsense?
Eliza Madrigal: thinking of recent theme sessions and 'Being ground", as well as TSK as showing there is nothing missing.... settledness amidst waves
doug Sosa: the tide of thoughts has taken us a bit away from the question: words that "name" the place where nature and human nature are interfused.
Qt Core: sometimes i think that even a more plain, even ruder approach may work, just a cost/benefit and risk assesment one
Maxine Walden: ah, doug, and yet to try to find a 'word' may foreclose the creative meanderings it seems to me
Zen Arado: we are intertwined with nature whether we want to be or not
Zen Arado: problem is we tried to distance ourselves?
Eos Amaterasu: I was referring to idea / practice of "kami" in the Japanese tradition as possibly a "best practice" in relating nature to self, self to nature
Zen Arado: could you elaborate Eos?
Eos Amaterasu: Pema might know more about that
Bleu Oleander: Eos, could you elaborate
Pema Pera: listening to Eos :)
Eos Amaterasu: My understanding of kami is that it is somewhat the spirit or presence of place, or of a living part of nature
Eos Amaterasu: and the intersection of "that" with "me" somewhat transcends the difference
Agatha Macbeth: I thought kami means God?
Pema Pera: yes, that too
Eos Amaterasu: ie, it's also "me" inseparate from "it" aat the moment
Agatha Macbeth: Or is that Kamui?
Pema Pera: God or spirit, none of the translations cover the word
Eos Amaterasu: Kamui?
Pema Pera: no, God is kami
Agatha Macbeth: Right
Pema Pera: but not the kind of God that we are used to :)Eos Amaterasu: In the european tradition forest clearings often had that effect
Qt Core: maybe just Nature with capital N would be a good translation :-)
Pema Pera: as for Doug's question of nature and human nature meeting, Japanese houses are designed that way, traditionally, to let nature and culture flow over into each other, seemlessly
Agatha Macbeth: Which is a good thing
Eos Amaterasu: a clearing : a sudden opening
Bleu Oleander: need more architects that understand that idea Pema
Agatha Macbeth grins
Pema Pera: hopefully ecologically aware architecture is moving in that directionZen Arado: "In the ancient animistic religions, kami were understood as simply the divine forces of nature. Worshippers in ancient Japan revered creations of nature which exhibited a particular beauty and power such as waterfalls, mountains, boulders, animals, trees, grasses and even rice paddies. They strongly believed the spirits or resident kami deserved respect."
doug Sosa: interesting how the architecht's piece of square paper gets filld with the house, and there is no room left for garden.
Pema Pera: (as for kami, Haku in the movie Spirited Away was a river kami, a river spirit that got lost because the river got dammed)
Eos Amaterasu: Re Doug's question, I think having a personal relationship to "kami" (by whatever word) in that sense, that makes a difference to your life, is key
Eos Amaterasu: if it doesn't make a difference to how you behave, it's just art externalized
Bleu Oleander: art?
Eos Amaterasu: Therefore an intimate Play as Being art?
Eos Amaterasu: Ie, "kami" turned into just an aesthetic is tragic
Eliza Madrigal: sees Bleu's wheels turning....
Bleu Oleander: ha!
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Maxine Walden: elements of our conversations spark each of us in unique ways...
Zen Arado: it's a bit like te 'wabi sabi' idea
Eos Amaterasu: grunts, ah, not wasabi
Eliza Madrigal: :)))
Bleu Oleander: Eos, could you elaborate on your line: "kami" turned into just an aesthetic is tragic
Eos Amaterasu: Just that my sense is that an experience of kami is also an experience of your being coming from that kami, or not separate from its presence, which has "deep ecological" significance
Eos Amaterasu: without that, simply as an "aesthetic" of external appreciation, where your self remains an observer, it loses its guts
Bleu Oleander: ah, ty
Eliza Madrigal: Interesting phrase... loses its guts...
Agatha Macbeth: Drops its guts?
Agatha Macbeth: :p
Agatha Macbeth: Meep Meep ;P :p:P :p :P
Eos Amaterasu: remembers that there's a kami shrine at Windhorse Farm (where August RL retreat will be)
Eos Amaterasu: ciao
Eos Amaterasu: What would a "Play as Being" house look like?
Pema Pera: interesting question!
Pema Pera: a mansion with many rooms . . . .
Eliza Madrigal: what a great question :)
Maxine Walden: ...open to the elements of nature...internal as well as external elements...
Qt Core: several small patios with seating for peaceful conversation
Bleu Oleander: it would look like nature
doug Sosa: wat to do about the rain?
Zen Arado: like a fairy castle :)
Bleu Oleander: it would have dropped it's walls and roof
Maxine Walden: and yet having the sheltering capacity to protect from the harsher elements
Eos Amaterasu: cozy in winter
doug Sosa: mosquitos?
Maxine Walden: and perhaps with beauty such as to shelter from the internal winters we can all dip into
Eos Amaterasu: A parrot that cries "drop! drop!"
Qt Core: something in between elfish and hobbit architecture ;-)
Eos Amaterasu: nicely said, Maxine!
Pema Pera: "drop until you stop"
Zen Arado: and very impermanent
Eos Amaterasu: a parrot that does that every 15 minutes!
Zen Arado: and always changing
Zen Arado: morphing into something else
doug Sosa: drop until you float
Pema Pera: where would it be located?
Bleu Oleander: in the universe
Eos Amaterasu: nestled in the arms of a mountain
Eliza Madrigal: lots of meandering paths with hidden gardens and sculptures...
Eliza Madrigal: giggles @ Bleu
Eos Amaterasu: (Mt Ever-rest :-)
Zen Arado: we could have retreats there
Maxine Walden: in a temperate climate...
Eliza Madrigal: smiles widely at Eos!
Bleu Oleander: in Scottsdale
Zen Arado: meditation rooms
Eos Amaterasu: didn't Frank Lloyd Wright build such houses in Arizona?
Bleu Oleander: right Eos
Bleu Oleander: tried anyway
Pema Pera: the most temperate climate I know of is Northern California
Pema Pera: near the coast
doug Sosa: rght where i live. russian river.
Eos Amaterasu: ah, doug's house!
Pema Pera: yeah!
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Qt Core: what about tuscan hills, a refurbished ancient farmhouse to have even roots in time ?
Pema Pera: move over, Doug!
doug Sosa: yes lets rebuild it :)
Pema Pera: or let it grow!
Bleu Oleander: yes Qt
Pema Pera: organically, with side rooms
Eos Amaterasu: yummy, Qt!
Maxine Walden: Puget Sound in Washington is another temperate locale
doug Sosa: building code won't permit it :(
Pema Pera: perhaps we can dig, like moles . . . .
doug Sosa: Yes we have some moles that can show us how :)
Eliza Madrigal: says goodbye to manicures...
Zen Arado: yes more environmentally friendly
Bleu Oleander: :)
Bleu Oleander: a working retreat
Zen Arado: build it in SL
Pema Pera: very temperate climate there . . .
Eos Amaterasu: go there when it rains
Zen Arado: yep
Bleu Oleander: I think we have
doug Sosa: sl is like heavem, the fruti does not fall fromthe trees, nor can one eat thereof.
Eliza Madrigal: a creative pab house building retreat.... we'll be covered in plaster .. will have "PaB" hammers that bleu will design....
Bleu Oleander: ha!
Pema Pera: Oleander's Hammer
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bleu Oleander: hehe
Bleu Oleander: .... thinks about that .....
Eliza Madrigal: uh oh...
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pema Pera: imagining a winged hammer . . . .
Bleu Oleander: :)
Bleu Oleander: w/ a logo
Zen Arado: would love to see something ...not professionally built
Zen Arado: but crazy design
Pema Pera: will wear a hard hat permanently
Eliza Madrigal: hahaha
Bleu Oleander: makes note to design PaB hard hat
Zen Arado: bilt from individual whims
Pema Pera: hahaha
doug Sosa: if only we had the moeny to take an old part of palo alto and rebuild it PaB
Pema Pera: a tiara, Bleu?
Bleu Oleander: of course
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: I've got to get going in just a moment, but thanks for this unusual and interesting session. :)
Pema Pera: visualizes a PaB bank robbery . . . .
Maxine Walden: ? Pema
Pema Pera: from having to not having
Qt Core: bye eliza
Maxine Walden: thanks, Eliza
Pema Pera: [8:57] doug Sosa: if only we had the moeny to take an old part of palo alto and rebuild it PaB
Agatha Macbeth: Bye Liz :)
Pema Pera: bye Eliza!
Bleu Oleander: bye Eliza
Maxine Walden: oh, giving it all away, a reverse bank robbery
Pema Pera: well, giving it to us :-)
Eliza Madrigal: smiles @ Maxine
Eos Amaterasu: Bye, E!
Eliza Madrigal: waves :)) bfn
Bleu Oleander: I need to slip away as well ...
Zen Arado: gtg too
Zen Arado: bye all
Maxine Walden: me as well
Bleu Oleander: and get to work on PaB hard hat!
Maxine Walden: see you all later
doug Sosa: slipping away...
Agatha Macbeth: Bye everybody
Eos Amaterasu: Bye everyone: inspiring session!
Yakuzza Lethecus: take care everyone
