2012.07.10 19:00 - that other maybe thing

The Guardian for this meeting was Eos Amaterasu. The comments are by Eos Amaterasu.

    Eos Amaterasu: HI Eliza, Samuo
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Eos, Samúð
oO0Oo Resident: Hi Eden , Eos, Eliza
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Eden :)
    Eos Amaterasu: Oh, there's Eden!
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Eden
    Eden Haiku: Hi :-)
Eliza Madrigal: Checking in from the mountains?
    Eden Haiku: Yep :-)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

Eos Amaterasu: Topic, Week 1 -
application of spiritual practices in real life
(e.g. vipassana in dharma is a way to calm down our thoughts and increase awareness of self. its rl application is lessen stress, normalize breathing, settle down.
another example is feng shui, which is a play on energies in a closed system. in rl its manifestation is in keeping the house tidy and uncluttered :)

Eos Amaterasu: This topic was suggested by boxy
    Eos Amaterasu: (is that right?)_
    Eliza Madrigal: yep ;-)

oO0Oo Resident: "one can develop as many techniques as they like while continually dropping self-importance…" ~ Eliza Seemed an inspired application approach. ..
Eos Amaterasu: so continually dropping self importance is one way of spirituality meeting RL moments?
    oO0Oo Resident: could be pervasive
Eliza Madrigal: ah, that came out of a conversation where Zen and I were discussing whether 'techniques' are an obstacle to mindfulness I think
    oO0Oo Resident waves to Storm
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Storm
    Storm Nordwind: Hi everyone
    Eden Haiku: hi Storm;-)

Eliza Madrigal: so to me techniques weren't the point but rather where one is coming from... what context I guess
oO0Oo Resident: I might have included the full quote: "Eliza Madrigal: I have a slightly different view of 'not adding techniques' (in meditation particularly) which is that one can develop as many techniques as they like while continually dropping self-importance… Like, when in the presence of a great 'teacher' there usually isn't much 'teachiness' left… suppose art may be similar... talent playing itself and the technique is there but invisible or assimilated..."
Eden Haiku: Spiritual practices in daily life is as varied as practitioners are I suppose...
Eliza Madrigal nods.. some like bells and whistles :)
oO0Oo Resident: Where there are subjects involved.. seems to make sense, there will be tremendous variability..
Eden Haiku: some like free flowing changing practices
Eos Amaterasu: scarlet begonias tucked into their curls
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
oO0Oo Resident: Not like other girls.. other girls..
Eden Haiku: ah ah Eos :-) Billie Holiday's gardenia tucked in her jazzy hair :-)
oO0Oo Resident: me feels sally in the air
Eos Amaterasu: so practice meets RL through technique(s), but is practice for no technique....
    oO0Oo Resident: Stev :)
    Eos Amaterasu: hi stevenaia
    Eden Haiku: Hi Steve!
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Stevenaia
    stevenaia Michinaga: Hi Eden
    stevenaia Michinaga: ltns

Eos Amaterasu: should we have practice meet RL in the upcoming 90 seconds lab/party session?
    Eden Haiku: Yes!
    oO0Oo Resident: Okay !

    --BELL--

    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eos Amaterasu: Topic - application of spiritual practices in real life
Storm Nordwind: I think I'm at a loss to talk about the application of spiritual practice in real life. It seems to me that that separates the two things. And for me they are just one thing. Daily life is just spiritual practice for me and I think I'd find it most unnatural for the two not to be the same.
Eliza Madrigal: I think it can be sort of interesting to see where, in the course of a day, one sees themselves 'practicing'... catching view
stevenaia Michinaga: in that vane, what isn't spiritual in RL?
stevenaia Michinaga: something you can't turn on and off
Eos Amaterasu: Yes, the little formal sessions, even 9 or 90 seconds, are like rehearsal for when in RL, so you catch yourself in RL
Eos Amaterasu: and then catch yourself playing at practice
Eos Amaterasu: and then give up :-)
Samúð (oo0oo): meeting the mystery.. the quandry of being

    again.. human
    everything threshholding
    simple.. complex.. noticings

a breath, a thing that holds water.. skin, shakiness, having heart..

Eden Haiku: Being with what is, transparent and real is quite a challenge.
Eos Amaterasu: whatever seems most solid is the challenge
    Eliza Madrigal: lovely, Samúð
    Eden Haiku: how so Eos?
    Eliza Madrigal listens
    Eos Amaterasu: challenges transparency
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi San
    oO0Oo Resident: certainty implies solidity?
    stevenaia Michinaga: waves to San
Eos Amaterasu: only beyond certainty is beyond moving
    oO0Oo Resident: sure?
    Eden Haiku: hehe
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
    Eos Amaterasu is moved
Eden Haiku: Blowing a kiss to Eos :-)
oO0Oo Resident: kiss in the air
Eos Amaterasu: what is the "spirituality" aspect of any of this? what does that term bring to the table?
    Eden Haiku: Sighs
Eos Amaterasu feels suspension of mutual breath
Eden Haiku: We are spirits aren't we?
Eden Haiku: Incarnated beings of light.
Eden Haiku: Trapped into dark tunnels sometimes but yet...

Eos Amaterasu: So if spirituality and real life are one, is there any point to any formal spiritual practices?
Eos Amaterasu: Like Storm, what's with this Kuanyin dude (or dudette)?
Storm Nordwind: That depends on your practice
oO0Oo Resident: . This by Korel recently felt to describe how I feel often about PaB pavilion.. in that it can *be* felt as alive with "that other maybe thing": Korel Laloix: Things that are normally inanimate are animate if they have a spiritual function.
Eliza Madrigal: not everyone crosses over SL/RL either... so suppose there may be an integration analogy of sorts
    Eos Amaterasu: ¿
Eos Amaterasu: that's a nice definition of animate (but it punts to spiritual)
    Eliza Madrigal: animation... movement... flow...
oO0Oo Resident: "other maybe thing" = whatever ones sense of "spirituality"/"contemplation" etc
Eos Amaterasu: like house vs home, the latter being animate
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Eos Amaterasu: this pavilion has that other maybe thing
    Eos Amaterasu: blowing through it

    --BELL--

Storm Nordwind goes to the kitchen to release the bread
    oO0Oo Resident: Baniac !
Eos Amaterasu: (can feel the bread's sigh of relief)
    oO0Oo Resident: ;)
Eos Amaterasu: sometimes your arm is reached out to the shiny door handle which reflects the pavilion back
Eos Amaterasu: just for a .9 second pause
    Eden Haiku: Beautiful !
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
Eos Amaterasu is trying to respond to boxy's question
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eos Amaterasu: there's an aspect of spirituality being a discipline you have about yourself and your own perceptions
Eos Amaterasu: and you bring that to every perception in your life
Eos Amaterasu: and eventually vice versa - who's zoomin' who?
    Eliza Madrigal: permeating perceptual field
Eden Haiku: You are reading my mind Eliza:-)
Eliza Madrigal: :) higgs affectations perhaps
    Eden Haiku: hihi
Eos Amaterasu: oh no, the god droplet!
    Eliza Madrigal laughs
    Eden Haiku: drips drips
Storm Nordwind: Drop all concepts of god
Storm Nordwind: It only gives you Mass anyway
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
    Eliza Madrigal: hah
    Eden Haiku: ;-)
    oO0Oo Resident: :)
Eliza Madrigal empties her koan knapsack
    Eden Haiku: Looking...
Eos Amaterasu: and doesn't find anything
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Storm Nordwind: Then what is the actualization of Zen?
    Eden Haiku: Or everything
    Storm Nordwind: cue...
Eos Amaterasu: in every detail nothing can be found
Storm Nordwind supplies the following URL for confused readers: http://www.101zenstories.com/index.php?story=12
    Eos Amaterasu: very nice
Eos Amaterasu: dialectic shows the Way
Eliza Madrigal: yes very nice... also the fourth wall break between SL and wiki (laughs)

    --BELL--

Eos Amaterasu is mystified by "fourth wall break..."
Eliza Madrigal: Speaking directly to or otherwise acknowledging the audience through the camera in a film or television program, or through this imaginary wall in a play, is referred to as "breaking the fourth wall" and is considered a technique of metafiction, as it deconstructs the boundaries normally set up by works of fiction
    Eliza Madrigal: (wiki)
Eden Haiku: Sorry, I have to leave. Goodnight everyone.
Eliza Madrigal: Night Eden, lovely to see you always
    Eos Amaterasu: bonne nuit, Eden
    Storm Nordwind: Goodnight Eden
    stevenaia Michinaga: ight Eden
    stevenaia Michinaga: n

Storm Nordwind: Eliza refers to my addressing potential readers of the Wiki
    Eliza Madrigal: yes :)
    oO0Oo Resident: Bye Eden
Storm Nordwind: dropping the fourth wall
    Storm Nordwind: integration in action
    Samúð (oo0oo): .

    Mountain air
    settles invisible feather dress
    wheaten hair stirs

    the far side condenses
    is that larsony?

    seriously.. applying self
    what is left?

    sunrise lilac darkmatter
    aimless tendril

    ronin song
    sat
    is
    fied

Eos Amaterasu: swing the sack over your shoulder and continue on your way.
oO0Oo Resident: how shiny the door handle
    stevenaia Michinaga: night all :)
    Eos Amaterasu: 'night stevenaia
    oO0Oo Resident: night Stev
    Storm Nordwind waves
    Eliza Madrigal: Night (quiet) Stevenaia

Eos Amaterasu: if we talk about "that" we tend to mythologize it
Eos Amaterasu: but we can talk about "this", because we do this personally
Eos Amaterasu: so "this" could be a non-theoretical spirituality
Eos Amaterasu: how you attend to yourself and your attention
Eos Amaterasu: and then you find "this" in "that"
Eos Amaterasu: so you can make up your own mythology
Eos Amaterasu: which makes sense cause it's connected to "this"
Eos Amaterasu: "this" is you own cultivated little box(y)

    Eliza Madrigal: _/ \_

    --BELL--

Eos Amaterasu: thank you, sam and storm and eliza

    Eos Amaterasu: Cheers!

Eliza, Thank you. I feel it *is* nice when originally formatted things like poems or character decorations can be preserved. I appreciate your doing that so much. While here I popped in a last line that I introduced after returning from a crash.
