Wol Euler: the first was judged last week, we didn't get through to the second round
Wol Euler: the second will be judged next month (I think)
Korel Laloix: Well good luck on that then.

Wol Euler: on the whole it's probably for the best
Wol Euler: it's okay to gamble a few weeks' work on a competition entry, but the second stage is a fresh second competition.
Wol Euler: we talked about that and both felt that our experience of 2-stage competitions is that the second stage feels like a rip-off
Wol Euler: losing after 3 weeks is ok, losing after six hurts
Wol Euler: (there is a certain amount of sour grapes in this, yes :)
Korel Laloix: WEll I hope you are at least learning something.
Wol Euler: yes, we did
Wol Euler: seeing the display of all entries made it quite clear why we lost
Wol Euler: no, wait, I'm an idiot.
Wol Euler: put it downto jetlag and lack of coffee
Wol Euler: both have been judged, both lost

Wol Euler: we haven't yet seen the results of the second, to figure out why we lost that
Wol Euler: I was going to say, before I figured it out, that the first one (single-stage) was lost because we stayed too close to the brief
Korel Laloix: OH OK.

Wol Euler: we followed the brief exactly, and produced a very small and compact building = cheap(er) to build
Wol Euler: but it was also a maze of small rooms. Unclear, unsystematic. The winners were all much larger than our project = more expensive, but the extra space allowed them to make clear and easily understood systems
