[19:01] Korel Laloix: How was yoru weekend?
[19:01] Aphrodite Macbain: Busy! I was in a performance that played twice. I'm a little tired
[19:01] Aphrodite Macbain: an 18th century play called the Marriage of Figaro
[19:02] Aphrodite Macbain: It was nice. a whole bucn from here attended/
[19:02] Aphrodite Macbain: How was your weekend?
    [19:03] Aphrodite Macbain: Heya Cal
[19:05] Calvino Rabeni: Heya hiya Aphrodite, Korel, stevenaia :)
[19:05] Korel Laloix: COolness.. that sounds fun.
    [19:06] Aphrodite Macbain: Coolness?
    [19:06] Korel Laloix: The perforance.
[19:06] Aphrodite Macbain: Where is Stevenaia
    [19:06] Korel Laloix: Sonds fun.
[19:06] Korel Laloix: Back to RL.. take care all.
    [19:07] Calvino Rabeni: Bye Korel
[19:07] Aphrodite Macbain: Ah. Yes. Bye Kori

[19:07] Aphrodite Macbain: Sorry you missed the peformance Cal - I think you might have enjoyed it
[19:08] Calvino Rabeni: What did I miss?
[19:08] Aphrodite Macbain: You know what I'm referring to? The Marriage of Figaro? I sent out a couple of emails on it
[19:09] Aphrodite Macbain: I was in a play in a Sim called Melioria - 18th century
[19:09] Aphrodite Macbain: The Mozart operawasbased on the story
[19:10] Calvino Rabeni: Would have liked to see it ... how ws it to get into it?
[19:11] Aphrodite Macbain: how ws it to get into it? =?

[19:12] Calvino Rabeni: What was it like to be a RL person learning to act a play role in second life?

[19:12] Aphrodite Macbain: :-) nice question
[19:13] Aphrodite Macbain: The main difference was that I didn't need to memorize and speak lines (they wee spoken by professional actors) , I had to mamorize all my moves and gestures
    [19:13] Aphrodite Macbain: memorize
    [19:13] Aphrodite Macbain: instead.
[19:14] Aphrodite Macbain: And it is very difficult to translate subtle expressions and movement using the current technology of SL
[19:15] Aphrodite Macbain: It was almost like Greek drama where all expressions have to be exaggerated
[19:16] Aphrodite Macbain: and it requires some pretty dextrous finger action!
[19:16] Aphrodite Macbain: There were 6 actors
[19:16] Aphrodite Macbain: we all had stage fright
[19:17] Aphrodite Macbain: The audience was very appreicative
[19:17] Aphrodite Macbain: (around 30 each time)
[19:17] Aphrodite Macbain: and I was exhausted afterwards.
[19:17] Aphrodite Macbain: I'll sleep well tonight
[19:18] Calvino Rabeni: Exhausted from .. stress?
    [19:18] Aphrodite Macbain: yes

[19:18] Calvino Rabeni: I'm trying to imagine the finger action ... how that would translate to avatar control ... Did you have a gesture library for the play?
[19:18] Aphrodite Macbain: I think so. I am always worried I'll loose controle, not be able to see, freeze, loose my hair/clothes/animations
[19:18] Aphrodite Macbain: walk into furniture, peeeople, fall off the stage
    [19:19] Calvino Rabeni: :)
[19:19] Aphrodite Macbain: which I did 2ce in rehearsals!
[19:19] Aphrodite Macbain: But the troupe was wonderful
[19:19] Aphrodite Macbain: and we all sort of bonded during that time

[19:19] Calvino Rabeni: it sounds like there are some skillful moves that are unique to the medium
    [19:20] Aphrodite Macbain: Yes absolutely
[19:20] Aphrodite Macbain: Thank god for some gfestures that are available: I'll show you
[19:20] Calvino Rabeni: trying to imagine what they are
[19:20] Calvino Rabeni: ah i see
    [19:21] Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
    [19:21] Calvino Rabeni: thanks1
    [19:21] Calvino Rabeni: !
[19:21] Aphrodite Macbain: A narrow repertoire
[19:21] Calvino Rabeni: what was the most interesting or engaging thing about it for you and the other actors?
    [19:22] Aphrodite Macbain: Hmm
[19:22] Aphrodite Macbain: I cant speak for anyone else
[19:23] Aphrodite Macbain: But it is amazing how the FEELINGS of the story come across. That I think was mainly due to the writing of Beaumarchais
[19:23] Aphrodite Macbain: He is gvery eloquent
    [19:23] Aphrodite Macbain: very

[19:24] Aphrodite Macbain: He was mainly critiquing the aristocrats of the day and their abuses.
    [19:25] Calvino Rabeni: nods
[19:25] Aphrodite Macbain: The sopty cventred around an old right of the senior (droit du seigneur) to bed the brides of his underling before the wedding day
[19:25] Aphrodite Macbain: Like they were part of the harvet
    [19:25] Aphrodite Macbain: harvest
[19:26] Aphrodite Macbain: " a certain gothic right"
[19:26] Calvino Rabeni: I think that figured into the movie Braveheart too
[19:26] Aphrodite Macbain: yes - and in a few others like Camelot
    [19:26] Aphrodite Macbain: Extraordinary.
[19:27] Aphrodite Macbain: The play was banned in the French court of Versailles
[19:27] Aphrodite Macbain: An Australian woman wrote the adaptation and directed the play. She was wonderful and hel dus together
[19:28] Aphrodite Macbain: Ever performed in SL?
[19:28] Calvino Rabeni: the actors had created a sound track ?
    [19:28] Aphrodite Macbain: yes
[19:28] Calvino Rabeni: for this event?
    [19:28] Aphrodite Macbain: yes
[19:28] Aphrodite Macbain: and costmes were designed
    [19:28] Aphrodite Macbain: Beautiful ones
[19:29] Aphrodite Macbain: I had two! My regular dress and my marriage dress
    [19:29] Aphrodite Macbain: Exquisite
[19:29] Calvino Rabeni: it's a creative work under some difficult circumstances

[19:29] Aphrodite Macbain: So if i get married in SL I'll have something to wear!!
[19:30] Calvino Rabeni: the director made the choice to take this on in spite of the difficulties?
[19:30] Aphrodite Macbain: yes. I suppose each work prsents its own challenges
    [19:30] Aphrodite Macbain: yes.
[19:31] Aphrodite Macbain: We rehearsed for almost 2 months 3x a week!
[19:31] Calvino Rabeni: that is a lot ...
[19:32] Calvino Rabeni: was it recorded in some way?
[19:32] Aphrodite Macbain: yes, it was videotaped
    [19:32] Calvino Rabeni: that's good :)
[19:33] Aphrodite Macbain: someone came to 2 rehearsals and the two performances. So she will edit it and make it available.
[19:33] Aphrodite Macbain: How does one record an event in SL \? Is there a function I'm not aware of?
[19:34] Calvino Rabeni: I don't know ... i think bleu does such things?
[19:34] Aphrodite Macbain: Yes. I just wonderd how. What hardware and software..
[19:34] Calvino Rabeni: maybe a special viewer
    [19:35] Aphrodite Macbain: perhaps.
[19:35] Aphrodite Macbain: What have you been up to? Are you visiting your old friend?
[19:35] Calvino Rabeni: Yes I am
[19:35] Aphrodite Macbain: Do you stay in his house?
    [19:35] Calvino Rabeni: nods
[19:36] Calvino Rabeni: it is a bit hot
[19:36] Aphrodite Macbain: Oh? Not hot here..
[19:36] Aphrodite Macbain: as long as you can sleep
[19:36] Aphrodite Macbain: and get out and go for walks
[19:37] Aphrodite Macbain: Can he join you on your walks?

[19:37] Calvino Rabeni: the canyons are shaded
[19:37] Calvino Rabeni: and a bit of the cool breeze
[19:37] Aphrodite Macbain: off the ocean?
[19:37] Calvino Rabeni: he can manage fire foads, but trails are iffy
[19:38] Calvino Rabeni: no, I think the breezes come down from the high mountains
[19:38] Aphrodite Macbain: nods. Probably needs a walking stick
[19:38] Calvino Rabeni: there is still a bit of snow up there
[19:38] Aphrodite Macbain: Oh so you are quite high
[19:38] Calvino Rabeni: :) nah ,,, walking stick = "cane" .. that's for old people!
    [19:38] Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
[19:39] Calvino Rabeni: The elevation is 2000 to 7500 (feet)
[19:39] Calvino Rabeni: HI Santo :)
[19:39] Santoshima Resident: hello Cal and Aph
    [19:39] Aphrodite Macbain: Hey San!
[19:40] Santoshima Resident: where are you talking about?
[19:40] Aphrodite Macbain: wow. you are living at a high elevation.
[19:40] Calvino Rabeni: It is southern oregon USA
    [19:40] Santoshima Resident: oh
    [19:40] Santoshima Resident: mountains?
[19:41] Calvino Rabeni: yes, and a bit arid too
[19:41] Aphrodite Macbain: Part of the Cascadia Range
    [19:41] Santoshima Resident: i see
[19:41] Aphrodite Macbain: How doyou know this guy Cal?

[19:42] Calvino Rabeni: Originally from the Go club in about '98 ... and that from a neighbor
[19:43] Calvino Rabeni: I hardly know anyone here any more ... it would be nice to have a few able-bodied friends
    [19:43] Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
[19:45] Calvino Rabeni: for example, there are lots of mtn roads, and sometimes there is a load of trash dumped ... one time I collected it and took it to the transfer station .. but this time it's too heavy to manage without two sets of arms
[19:46] Aphrodite Macbain: nothing better than walking and talking with a friend..... maybe you can put up a notice asking for help
    [19:46] Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Lucinda
[19:46] Santoshima Resident: hi Luci :)
[19:47] Calvino Rabeni: I can do the walk and talk with mobile phone, but they can't help pick up the garbage :)
    [19:47] Aphrodite Macbain: :-(
[19:47] Santoshima Resident: community brigade would be good
    [19:47] Santoshima Resident: for such
[19:47] Aphrodite Macbain: Yes. Is there a "community"?
    [19:47] Calvino Rabeni: Hi Cinda
[19:48] Santoshima Resident: dunno, is it an isolated place?
[19:48] Lucinda Lavender: Aph, Cal. San
    [19:48] Santoshima Resident: hello lucinda
[19:48] Calvino Rabeni: There's a group that does wood for the poor .. volunteers .. one of them might be interested in cleanup work

[19:48] Lucinda Lavender: I tried to attend todays performance and kept getting bumped off:(
[19:48] Aphrodite Macbain: and have some friends
[19:49] Santoshima Resident: guess it's the community who put the trash there in the first place
    [19:49] Aphrodite Macbain: really!!!
    [19:49] Santoshima Resident: some of
[19:49] Aphrodite Macbain: wow. The sim must have been full
[19:49] Lucinda Lavender: yes aph 4 times
[19:49] Aphrodite Macbain: They are making a video of it
    [19:49] Lucinda Lavender: great...
    [19:49] Aphrodite Macbain: I'm sorry!
[19:50] Aphrodite Macbain: The gang was there...all in the front row :-)
[19:50] Lucinda Lavender: hope to hear more about it sometime
[19:50] Aphrodite Macbain: San was there.
[19:50] Lucinda Lavender: what has your topic been this eve?
[19:50] Aphrodite Macbain: She can give you an audience member's perspective.
[19:50] Aphrodite Macbain: The play and Cal's situation in S Oregon
[19:51] Aphrodite Macbain: nothing scientific and nothing objective
    [19:51] Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
    [19:51] Lucinda Lavender: ah

[19:51] Calvino Rabeni: How have the "theme discussions" been going around here lately? I haven't been able to keep up to date
[19:51] Lucinda Lavender: Cal has a situation?
[19:52] Aphrodite Macbain: yes. the theme has been around applying science to PAB - what doesa PABLAB look like. Hard to summarize. There have been a lot of emails too
    [19:52] Calvino Rabeni: hmm :)
    [19:52] Aphrodite Macbain: Interesting reading

[19:53] Calvino Rabeni: If we were to guess at the motivation for that inquiry, what might it be?
[19:53] Aphrodite Macbain: I feel a bit of a dummy in all this since I dont know the language of science
[19:53] Lucinda Lavender: Same here Aph but you had been doing a great job!
[19:54] Santoshima Resident: which inquiry, Cal? the theme session inquiry?
    [19:54] Calvino Rabeni: yes :)
[19:54] Aphrodite Macbain: hmm. thanks Cinda. I hope it will make it easier for others to speak

    [19:54] Santoshima Resident: motivation 1
[19:54] Santoshima Resident: connection to group
    [19:54] Santoshima Resident: motivation 2
[19:54] Santoshima Resident: connection to Pema
    [19:54] Santoshima Resident: motivation 3
    [19:55] Santoshima Resident: ...
    [19:55] Santoshima Resident: anyone else
    [19:55] Santoshima Resident: go ahead
    [19:55] Aphrodite Macbain: motivation 4
    [19:55] Santoshima Resident: #3
    [19:55] Santoshima Resident: is open
[19:55] Santoshima Resident: not sure what the motivation might be
[19:55] Calvino Rabeni likes lists .. smiles
[19:55] Aphrodite Macbain: Boxy's frustration with discussions being vague and impractical
    [19:55] Santoshima Resident: not
    [19:56] Santoshima Resident: something else
    [19:56] Aphrodite Macbain: ?

[19:56] Aphrodite Macbain: He seems to want to apply the scientific method which Pema is calling into question
[19:57] Calvino Rabeni: so a motivation is to help boxy fit in, or to try to arrange a smoother consensus
[19:57] Aphrodite Macbain: I think different things motivate different people
[19:57] Aphrodite Macbain: It is nice to have a serious debate-it refreshes thngs.

[19:58] Aphrodite Macbain: But occasionally it can become antagonistic and polarizing

[19:58] Calvino Rabeni: I'd guess there were 40 people or so,each with maybe 4-6 main motivations
    [19:58] Aphrodite Macbain: perhaps
[19:58] Calvino Rabeni: but with a lot of overlap
[19:58] Calvino Rabeni: that would be a great theme session :)
[19:58] Aphrodite Macbain: I am not sure if there as many as 40 people
[19:59] Calvino Rabeni: which is .. why do I care / why do we care
    [19:59] Aphrodite Macbain: yes..
[19:59] Aphrodite Macbain: why do we careabout Pab continuing to be vital you mean?

[19:59] Calvino Rabeni: i meant specifically about that theme discussion
    [20:00] Aphrodite Macbain: ah,
[20:01] Aphrodite Macbain: I'm not sure if we ever get to the truth -
[20:02] Santoshima Resident: i missed some ... crashed
[20:02] Aphrodite Macbain: it seems to me to be more about flexing our brain muscles

[20:02] Santoshima Resident: there is a direct split in approach between the two views
    [20:02] Santoshima Resident: subjective/objective
[20:03] Lucinda Lavender: it does seem complicated

[20:03] Calvino Rabeni: The theme seems pretty ambitious ..there are some symbolic hopes of hooking up two really different systems of thought, perhaps with the idea of getting a super-system of extraordinary potency :)
    [20:04] Santoshima Resident: :) gadzooks
    [20:04] Calvino Rabeni: yikes :)
[20:05] Aphrodite Macbain: you said it!
[20:05] Calvino Rabeni: or maybe "can't we all just get along" is also in there somehow too

[20:05] Aphrodite Macbain: Bleu seems to be keeping things on track. She's wonderful
    [20:05] Calvino Rabeni: I noticed
[20:06] Aphrodite Macbain: She is very articulate and has an ability to synthesize well
    [20:06] Calvino Rabeni nods'
[20:07] Aphrodite Macbain: I am going to take my body to the couch and lie down now.
    [20:07] Lucinda Lavender: luci smiles
[20:07] Calvino Rabeni: Good idea !
[20:07] Aphrodite Macbain: read the emails- they are good: druth, Storm, Bleu, moi and Pema have mainly been talking

[20:08] Calvino Rabeni: I need to get on too ... good to see you all :)
[20:08] Santoshima Resident: when is the next one, Aph?
    [20:08] Santoshima Resident: night everyone
[20:08] Lucinda Lavender: glad to see you all...
[20:08] Aphrodite Macbain: Bye everyone. See 2/3 of youtomorrow morning!
    [20:08] Aphrodite Macbain: Byeee Luci
    [20:08] Lucinda Lavender: byeee
[20:08] Calvino Rabeni: Good night :)
[20:08] Lucinda Lavender: tell me more about your show later?
[20:09] Lucinda Lavender: I will hope for that...
