stevenaia Michigana filled for for Rowan Marsala this evening.  The comments are stevenaia's.  Rowan will be taking my session on Wednesday.  Tonight's session was rather quiet. Our minds were lost or elsewhere  for most of the hour.

We had a visitor who did not speak but became part of the conversation, I referred to him as "Xxxxx" in the text since he did not agree to be quoted.

    Adelene Dawner: Hi Steve :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: evening
stevenaia Michinaga: I;ll be taking Rowan's place tonight as Goc as she is not feelong well
    Adelene Dawner: ok
stevenaia Michinaga: is it just us?
stevenaia Michinaga: I;m still rezzing a bit
Adelene Dawner: give it a few minutes, but yes, for now it is.
    stevenaia Michinaga: thx
Adelene Dawner: ...red. And glowy. Can't we do better than red and glowy? Didn't I talk to Wol about that?
stevenaia Michinaga: well considering the programing side of things seems to be a far cry from creating an object of physical beauty for some, it;s understandable as a start
Adelene Dawner: Agreed. But black is a much more neutral color and why does it glow?
stevenaia Michinaga: but I have also know some programmers who are very creative and even musicl
stevenaia Michinaga: hmm, it;s jsut a res pyrimid to me, no glow
    Adelene Dawner checks... "yup, glowy."
stevenaia Michinaga: well it is twisty and red, now that I;m up close and put on my glasses, I don;t mins it cept for the sharp point on top
    Adelene Dawner: mmhmm.
Adelene Dawner: Someone will build the script a nicer home eventually, I'm sure.
Adelene Dawner: (Yes, I'm picky ^.^)
stevenaia Michinaga: not picky, jsut refined
    Adelene Dawner chuckles.
stevenaia Michinaga: looking forward to our encounter in Princeton
    Adelene Dawner: Yes ^.^
stevenaia Michinaga: should be interesting fro all
    Adelene Dawner: mmhmm
Adelene Dawner: I can't believe it's just two weeks away. That hasn't really registered yet.
stevenaia Michinaga: is there anyw ay to detach that ball that forms when you type, that on a stand would make a possible recorder form
    Adelene Dawner: hmmm, good idea
Adelene Dawner: This ball is from Grendel's - I can modify it but not give it to anyone else. But it wouldn't be especially hard to make something similar.
    Adelene Dawner: Hiya Pros
    Prosper Telling: evening
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Prosper
Prosper Telling: Hi... what are the little numbers? Looked blood pressure (if you were seriously stroking)
stevenaia Michinaga: some sort of autorecording tag, I assume the script is in beta
Prosper Telling: Nevermind, recorder listerning device
    Prosper Telling: yeah, that
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, it needs a balloon of something to announce its existence
    Prosper Telling: learning something everyday
stevenaia Michinaga: seems it will only work around guardians, so any impromtu meetings won;t be recorded w/o activation
    stevenaia Michinaga: scratching head
stevenaia Michinaga: But I know little of such things
stevenaia Michinaga: just what I read
Adelene Dawner: I"m not sure what Wol settled on but we'd talked about using some combination of guardian presence and time, for regular activation, and it'd have to be touched by a guardian to record any meetings that happened at odd times.
    Prosper Telling: brb
stevenaia Michinaga: have you been here before?
stevenaia Michinaga: hello Xxxxx., I didn;t see you there from my view
stevenaia Michinaga: Xxxxx.? are you here?
    Adelene Dawner: guess not
stevenaia Michinaga: lol, have you met him before?
    Adelene Dawner: nope
Adelene Dawner notes the /b/ armband...
stevenaia Michinaga: didn't see him/her arrive
stevenaia Michinaga: and what is /b/?
Adelene Dawner: um, how to explain...
    stevenaia Michinaga: computerese?
Adelene Dawner: an, um, 'cultural' part of the internet. in a 'the internet is for porn' sense, only worse.
    Adelene Dawner: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4chan#.2Fb.2F
stevenaia Michinaga: hmmm, lovely, is that similar to the book on the table
Adelene Dawner: Not really, though the two groups probably overlap and wouldn't particularly conflict.
stevenaia Michinaga: I tried reading it but I think it;s not ment for reading through :)
Adelene Dawner: Discordianism seems to be a little bit more thoughtful/intelectual.
Adelene Dawner: No, it's meant for reading ^.^
    Adelene Dawner: http://www.principiadiscordia.com/
    stevenaia Michinaga: welcome back Prosper
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Corvi
    Prosper Telling: thanx
Prosper Telling: glad to be all here finally
stevenaia Michinaga: we were just enjoying a quiet evening
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: mmm
Adelene Dawner has been educating Steve on internet culture... and is a bit disturbed at how much she knows on that subject.
stevenaia Michinaga: happy you can illuminate me
Adelene Dawner: Some things aren't worth knowing, I think.
Prosper Telling: I'm not suprised... you have a lot of useful nuggets stuck in there as well
    Corvuscorva Nightfire smiles.
Adelene Dawner: true, a willingness to wade through muck does lead to finding lots of interesting things. Muck's still muck, though.
Prosper Telling: Ain't that where the lotus has its roots or something?
Adelene Dawner chuckles. "Wired said something like that about 4chan in a moderately-recent article."
    Prosper Telling: 4chan?
    Adelene Dawner: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4chan
Prosper Telling: opening the link... this could take awhile.
Prosper Telling: SL is screwy tonight. First I crashed. Now stevenaia is suddenly ruthed on my screen. Lag is bad.
stevenaia Michinaga: eek, it;s been a while since that happened
    Adelene Dawner: :(
stevenaia Michinaga: sometimes a change of atire helps...does it?
Prosper Telling: You make a fugly girl, as do I.
stevenaia Michinaga: aww, perhaps in a past life I was
Prosper Telling: No doubt we were charming then.
    Corvuscorva Nightfire laughs.
Corvuscorva Nightfire: You are both charming now.
    stevenaia Michinaga: ...smile
Prosper Telling: thanx... I can blush now :-)
    Corvuscorva Nightfire laughs.
Prosper Telling: well I hate to run but my map is flashing red which means another crash is near
Adelene Dawner: I'm mostly not here - there's this rationalist blog that I read that's been very interesting recently, but it's hard to follow (I simply don't have the background) and I'm trying to catch up on it.
    Adelene Dawner: byt Pros
    Adelene Dawner: *bye
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: bye, pros.
    stevenaia Michinaga: night all
    Adelene Dawner: cya Steve
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: Night, Steve
    stevenaia Michinaga: wb Xxxxx
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: hiya, Xxxxx.
    Corvuscorva Nightfire: and bye.
stevenaia Michinaga: I don;t know if you;ve been here before but we record these sessions, do you mind if we note that you were here?

Just to be clear, the Master is presently red and glowy <i>while recording</i> because I discovered in testing that people forget that it is recording, even with the balls and numbers! I have no interest in designing the object and encourage anyone else to do better. (The numbers are for debugging, and will disappear eventually.)<br /><br />

Recording does rely on the presence of at least one guardian (person named in a notecard in the Master, wearing hte group tag is not necessary). The Master goes into "ready" mode automatically 10 minutes before the start of regular sessions, begins recording as soon as a guardian arrives, and stops when the last guardian leaves the meeting. "Leaving" is defined as TPing out or moving more than 15 metres from the Master.<br /><br />

Recording can be started (and stopped) manually at any time by a guardian clicking on it; note however that stopping and restarting creates a second session, i.e. there is no "pause" button.<br /><br />

The Listeners follow their target person up to 15 metres away from the Master; beyond that they will derezz ending that person's participation in the session. People returning to the table will receive a new Listener.<br /><br />

One weak point has arisen following the rolling restarts. In the case that the region (Rieul) is restarted, the Listeners will not be shut down but will simply stop, meaning that the last few blocks of conversation might be lost. If the region receives a "restart" warning during a session, a guardian MUST click on the Master and formally stop the session to ensure that all conversation up to that point is recorded.
