Wol Euler was guardian for this session.

    Bartram Fenstalker: I apologize
    Bartram Fenstalker: I am disoriented
    Wol Euler: for what?
    Wol Euler: ah :)
    Wol Euler: no worries
    Wol Euler: hello bartram, boxy
Wol Euler: have you been here before?
    Alfred Kelberry: woly! :)
    Alfred Kelberry: hi, bart
Bartram Fenstalker: Wol, I am Arch in another person
Wol Euler: oh, right, I know who you are now :)
    Alfred Kelberry: archy :)
Wol Euler: I thought I'd seen your av before
    Bartram Fenstalker: Or, I suppose
    Alfred Kelberry: you're late, woly
Bartram Fenstalker: In an another animal than the human one
Alfred Kelberry: i've been here since 12
Wol Euler: no, you were early. The session begins at 1.
Wol Euler: what you do before htat is your own business
    Alfred Kelberry: :P
    Wol Euler nods to Bartram
Alfred Kelberry: all formal and pokey :)
    Alfred Kelberry: *pokes woly*
Bartram Fenstalker: get a room, kids
    Wol Euler chuckles.
    Alfred Kelberry: *pokes archy*
    Bartram Fenstalker: This new interface
Alfred Kelberry: do you guys know the av named "flea habilis"?
Bartram Fenstalker: combined with braking my glasses
    Wol Euler: oh dear :(
Alfred Kelberry: ouch, breaking glasses is annoying
Bartram Fenstalker: Make it difficult to be independent
    Alfred Kelberry: done that
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
Alfred Kelberry: since then i have 2 pairs :)
Wol Euler: my sympathy, bartram, that really is a great inconvenience
Bartram Fenstalker: I had 4 pairs, broke them all when my abilities declined
    Wol Euler nods.
    Alfred Kelberry: oh my
Wol Euler: it's easily done, a moment of inattention ...
Alfred Kelberry: i fixed mine a thousands of times
Alfred Kelberry: but i like the frame, so... not giving it up :)
    Bartram Fenstalker: Oh,, yes
Bartram Fenstalker: they can often be fixed
Bartram Fenstalker: There does come a point in time, however
Bartram Fenstalker: when fixing is no longer an option
    Wol Euler nods.
    Alfred Kelberry: heh, true
Alfred Kelberry: i'm getting close to that
Alfred Kelberry: i've been told not once to get a new frame by the technicians :)
Bartram Fenstalker: Chester says hello....well he would if he were not spaced out cheese......but Nimbus says hello from the beyond
Wol Euler smiles broadly. Hello Nimbus, hello Chester. Happy cheesedreams.
    Alfred Kelberry: squeaky clean boots
    Alfred Kelberry: cheese? oh yes
Alfred Kelberry: is nimbus cheese related too?
    Bartram Fenstalker: yes, mr. box
Bartram Fenstalker: Nim learned to eat cheese
    Bartram Fenstalker: from sky
    Alfred Kelberry: heh
    Wol Euler: heheh
Bartram Fenstalker: Sky was the first cat
Alfred Kelberry: me likes these: http://www.ray-ban.com/_repository/_...0_430/2034.png
Alfred Kelberry: won't fit me though :/
    Wol Euler: wow, retro chic
    Alfred Kelberry: yep
    Bartram Fenstalker: UMMM
    Bartram Fenstalker: retro?
Alfred Kelberry: my ray-ban is ages old
    Alfred Kelberry: needs replacement
Bartram Fenstalker: some of us are still alive
Wol Euler: I meant the glasses, not hte person :)
Alfred Kelberry: but you live in the future, archy :)
Bartram Fenstalker: Koi live to 250 yrs, I here
Wol Euler: well, don't we all? Look at what we are doing, then get out your smartphone with videoconferencing and look at it

    --BELL--

    Bartram Fenstalker: Yes
    Bartram Fenstalker: I do
Alfred Kelberry: *remembers "you sit in the chair. in the sky!" :)
    Bartram Fenstalker: past lives
    Bartram Fenstalker: not always clear
    Alfred Kelberry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk
Bartram Fenstalker: The most difficult thing about belief, at least for those of us who analyze
Bartram Fenstalker: It that there are things that exist
    Bartram Fenstalker: beyond
Wol Euler: "how quickly the world owes [us] something" <- true
    Alfred Kelberry: yea :)
Wol Euler: great clip, boxy, tyvm
    Alfred Kelberry: welcome :)
Bartram Fenstalker: This will seem, if if comes from my hand, not real........stelll it is what seemeto be real to me
Bartram Fenstalker: The are no debts in the beyoun
Alfred Kelberry: that rotary thing, btw. i forgot, but i used it :)
Alfred Kelberry: although, it feels like it didn't happen
Alfred Kelberry: it feels so ancient
    Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: people were more patient then. The agreed convention was to let the phone ring ten times before you hung up. Today, in Germany, it seeems to be four.
Wol Euler: because the phone is assumed to be in your pocket, if you don't answer before the fourth ring it's because you have chosen not to
Alfred Kelberry: heh, and it's true. whenever reception goes off on subway or whatnot and i can't load a page, i go "bullshit" :)
    Wol Euler: yep :)
    Alfred Kelberry: 10 times! wow
Alfred Kelberry: i actually hang up on 3
Wol Euler: there you are :)
Alfred Kelberry: unless i really need the call
Bartram Fenstalker: Very Alice of you, Wol..."there you are"
    Alfred Kelberry: woly is alice
    Alfred Kelberry: cutely cute
    Alfred Kelberry: and adventurous
    Wol Euler smiles.
Bartram Fenstalker: Get a room kids
    Bartram Fenstalker: just kidding
Alfred Kelberry: it's nice here in the nature :)
Bartram Fenstalker: My parrokeets (in rl)) are doing their chirping thing
Alfred Kelberry: in sl as well
Bartram Fenstalker: Chester seems to be hidden
Bartram Fenstalker: Which means he wishes to do his own thing
    Wol Euler nods.
Bartram Fenstalker: Untile he wishes me to obey him
    Bartram Fenstalker: cats, who knew/
    Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: I like the independence of cats. Dogs are so cringingly dependent

    --BELL--

Alfred Kelberry: me likes loyalty of dogs
Wol Euler: well, I suppose you could see it that way
Alfred Kelberry: cats seem to never care. as long as they have a bowl of milk.
Wol Euler: oh no, cats do care, they show love too. but they know when they've had enough of it
Bartram Fenstalker: Are either of you going to retreats this coming year (2012)
    Alfred Kelberry: i'd like to
Wol Euler: I hope to, if at all possible
Alfred Kelberry: i think you could do the spain trip, woly
Wol Euler: sure, if it happens
Bartram Fenstalker: The sharing of information,, intellectual, emotional, and whatever
    Wol Euler nods.
    Bartram Fenstalker: is useful
Alfred Kelberry: have you read my suggestion on 2 retreats?
    Wol Euler: and enjoyable
    Wol Euler: no, not yet
Alfred Kelberry: it's in the retreats group
    Alfred Kelberry: sam :)
Wol Euler: haven't checked non-work e-mail in a few days
Alfred Kelberry: aww, and i was sending you tender haikus :)
    Wol Euler: awwwwww
    oO0Oo Resident: Alf :), Wol :), Bartram :)
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
    Wol Euler: hello Samúð
Wol Euler: nice to see you again, in this lovely form
    Bartram Fenstalker: Hello O
Wol Euler: erm, not that your other isn't lovely too :)
oO0Oo Resident: Thinking of changing my name to bertrem ;)
Alfred Kelberry: i think it's taken
Wol Euler: we can run through all the options: Bürtrüm
oO0Oo Resident: Bartram, Bertram, Bertrum, and Bertrem... lol
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
    Wol Euler: hundreds of combinations
    Wol Euler: bértrâm
Bartram Fenstalker: Not so many ppl who would be to be O or )
    Bartram Fenstalker: 0
oO0Oo Resident: wouldn't wish my life or names on anyone :)
    Wol Euler: awwwww :(
    Alfred Kelberry: mmm, yogurt
    oO0Oo Resident: interesting topics tonight?
Wol Euler: http://xkcd.com/864/ <- about living in the future, finally found it :)
Bartram Fenstalker: Agree, my life is mine.....my task is to be who I am
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Alfred Kelberry: sadly, no video call
Wol Euler: true, arch, that is our common task/goal/desire/hope
Bartram Fenstalker: One chooses what one wishes, Mr. Boxy
Alfred Kelberry: or been told to wish
    Wol Euler nods.
Bartram Fenstalker: We are an iland of choosing in a sea of already decided,
    Alfred Kelberry: ipab :)
Wol Euler: what a great expression, bartram, taht will be the title
Bartram Fenstalker: Namaste and Blessings, Wol
    Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: you too, dear bart
    Bartram Fenstalker: nods
    Bartram Fenstalker: Still

    --BELL--

Bartram Fenstalker: I wish to recapture
    Bartram Fenstalker: my original form
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
    Wol Euler smiles.
Bartram Fenstalker: So I must go
Wol Euler: okay, bye for now
    oO0Oo Resident: :) bfn
    Bartram Fenstalker: love u folks
Wol Euler: sam, I love your sunglasses :)
Wol Euler: the escher image is perfect :)
    oO0Oo Resident: .·´`·.·✿
    oO0Oo Resident: <3
    oO0Oo Resident: ✿·.·´`·
    oO0Oo Resident: .·´ ¸.·*¨) ¸.·*¨)
    oO0Oo Resident: (¸.·´ (¸.*´ ¸.·´
    oO0Oo Resident: `·-*¤ ♥
    oO0Oo Resident:
oO0Oo Resident: thanks Wol. Meant to thank you again for making the glasses template for me. Am amazed actually at how quickly you whipped them up. I enjoy decorating them.
    Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: my pleasure, glad you enjoy
Wol Euler: I'd noticed you playing with the surface textures
Wol Euler: how are you today?
oO0Oo Resident: have been thinking about 'reflections' in considering an ice sculpture, and Escher comes to mind as someone who reflected on reflections.
    Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: indeed he did, among other things
oO0Oo Resident: and alll the senses of 'reflections' too.. and I am fine.. feeling calm and happy at the moment .. thanks Wol.. hope you and Boxy OK too..
Wol Euler: I'm pretty well, cheerful and mellow
    Wol Euler: weekend off!
    oO0Oo Resident: nice
Wol Euler: boxy seems to be absent again
oO0Oo Resident: 'Angry Birds" from your XKCD link reminded me of a graphic... trying to find it..
oO0Oo Resident: Here it is: http://is.gd/ASGbew
    Wol Euler: wow :)
Wol Euler: nearly 1% of ads displayed get a response? That sounds actually a bit high.
Wol Euler: but whatever ... :)
    Alfred Kelberry: hi :)
Alfred Kelberry: um, i'll go lay down and read for a bit
    Alfred Kelberry: then shopping
Wol Euler: bye boxy, read well
    Wol Euler: see ya later
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
    oO0Oo Resident: Bye Boxy :)
Alfred Kelberry: you be godo girls
    Alfred Kelberry: go do
    Alfred Kelberry: good
    Wol Euler: heheh
Wol Euler: I shall be godo
    Wol Euler: just for you
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
oO0Oo Resident: can we be g-go girls?
    Wol Euler: yes! heheh
    oO0Oo Resident: go-go?
    Alfred Kelberry: carry on :)
Wol Euler: I have the outfit for it :)
Wol Euler: well several suitable outfits actually

    --BELL--

oO0Oo Resident: "I've got a head for business and a body for sin" Melanie griffith as Tess McGill [Working Girl]
Wol Euler: indeed :) great film
oO0Oo Resident: :) Nice Outfit go go Wol :)
    Wol Euler smiles.
oO0Oo Resident: wow! wish we could embed video in the wiki
Wol Euler: we probably can ... at the very least, as an external link to Flickr or whatever

oO0Oo Resident: is there a built in video recorder in your viewer?

Wol Euler: no, you need 3rd party software for that
Wol Euler: I have it, downloaded and installed, but never got around to trying it out
oO0Oo Resident: I think Kirsten's viewer had a recorder, but last I checked... development had stopped on that viewer...
Wol Euler: yes, sadly, she has given up
oO0Oo Resident: Well, her partner has fallen ill, and she has dedicated her time there, which is commendable, and completely understandable.
Wol Euler: oh, was that it. Yes, fully understandable; the obviuos and right decision
oO0Oo Resident: yay! [Reader invited to imagine Wol dancing caberet in amazing outfit replete with feathery wings]
Wol Euler: I'm starting up the video recorder software :) no time like the present :)
    oO0Oo Resident: :))))
    oO0Oo Resident: KirstenLee's announcement from Sept. 8th: http://is.gd/Rkiyua
oO0Oo Resident is tempted to snap a garter, but uses restraint..
    Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: well, that was utterly futile :-/
oO0Oo Resident: not from this point of view :)
Wol Euler: I'll have to do some research about that
    Wol Euler: heheheheh <3
oO0Oo Resident: Which software are you trialling?
Wol Euler: oh the dancing was fine :) but I cannot recommend Xfire as a machinima-grabber

    --BELL--

Wol Euler: well, that worked :)
Wol Euler: quality is lousy, but that is probably just a question of configuration
Wol Euler: let me post that on flickr so you can see ...
oO0Oo Resident: "if at first you don't succeed..."... yay
    oO0Oo Resident: kk
oO0Oo Resident: amazing this can be done
    Wol Euler: wow, 58 megabytes
    Wol Euler: loading ...
Wol Euler: not going to leave that up for long, so I will take the URL out of the log.
Wol Euler: have to do a *lot* of setup to get that working well
Wol Euler: hide the complete UI, turn off nametags and grouptags
Wol Euler: reduce the size of the window ...
Wol Euler: no wonder people use separate, special, viewers for making machinima and photos
Wol Euler: hate to have to turn all that on /off over and again
oO0Oo Resident: nods... learning curve, and practice.. but seems a very fulfilling Art form in the end. Would like to try some sometime.
Wol Euler: well, the software I am using is called WeGame, and it's really easy to use badly & simply :)
Wol Euler: just define a hotkey to start/stop recording, and off you go
Wol Euler: using it *well* is probably another matter :)
oO0Oo Resident: PaBers or anybody considering video screen captuing for Machinima, might find this comparison of software helpful at wikipedia, as it covers different OS platforms: http://is.gd/JxSqNa Also this is a very worthwhile article: Checklist of criteria for selecting a screencasting tool: http://is.gd/5J9fJO
    Wol Euler: aha, ty :)
    oO0Oo Resident: yw :)
oO0Oo Resident wonders about Flickr link.. Still uploading?
    Wol Euler: still uploading :)
    Wol Euler: 58 Mb :)
    oO0Oo Resident: kk... :)

    --BELL--

oO0Oo Resident: can I ask you Wol? um..
    Wol Euler: sure :)
oO0Oo Resident: Well, I joined a smattering of groups lately, just to see... and am getting way too many group notices. When I go into the Group Profile and uncheck "Receive Group Notices", and save, well, I still get them. Anyway to manage this?
    Wol Euler: I fear not
Wol Euler: what you are getting is group IM, not notices as such
Wol Euler: notices would appear as blue dialogs in the top right
    Wol Euler: special announcements etc
Wol Euler: as far as I know the only way to keep yourself from getting group IM is to leave the group

This possibly not true, depending which viewer you use. Firestorm can be configured to also ignore group IMS for those groups where you ignore notices. In Preferences, on the "Firestorm" tab, on the "Chat" sub-tab, on the "General" sub-sub-tab, enable the option "When 'Receive group notices' is disabled, disable group chat as well".

oO0Oo Resident: ah... that makes sense .. sure
oO0Oo Resident: OK.. Thanks Wol :)
Wol Euler: (upload appears to be hanging at 99% ,...)
oO0Oo Resident: We are the 99%.. We.. are .. the 99%
    Wol Euler: heheheh
Wol Euler: upload complete, now says "being processed"
    Wol Euler: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2404970...in/photostream
    oO0Oo Resident: clicking
oO0Oo Resident: Nice! I like the panning effect. And wow 58 Mb for how many seconds?
Wol Euler: yep, it's really intensive
    oO0Oo Resident: 29 seconds
Wol Euler: but that could be halved by reducing the screen to a square
Wol Euler: so 2mb per second, as a rule of thumb
oO0Oo Resident: Yes, probably a way to capture the application window only?
oO0Oo Resident: and then .. are there codec choices and sound quality settings?
Wol Euler: all that (probably) yes
Wol Euler: have to play around quite a lot to get results like Bleu does
oO0Oo Resident: I imaging a joystick would be very helpful in making Machinima.. but much to look into and learn there. Hope Bleu does well in this contest coming up.
    Wol Euler: agreed :)
Wol Euler: she has done well so far, deservedly
oO0Oo Resident: There is something equivalent to a $US 1000 prize I believe for the winner. Don't quote me on that though ;)
    Wol Euler: oooh
    Wol Euler: worth winning :)
Wol Euler: plus fame and glory, of course

    --BELL--

    oO0Oo Resident: http://is.gd/j0yyEH
Wol Euler: actually I retract my endorsement of WeGame. It has no "quit" command, and also no apparent way to log me out of their webspace
    oO0Oo Resident: :)
oO0Oo Resident wonders when WoW will merge with SL ;)
Wol Euler: ain't gonna happen :) the worlds are too far apart
    oO0Oo Resident: :)
Wol Euler: different purposes, that would be like asking when an orange will merge with a toenail clipper
oO0Oo Resident: flying car? and I think that citrus toenail clipper just made it to the app store :)
    Wol Euler: ha :)
    Wol Euler chuckles.
Wol Euler: actually, did you see that TED talk about flying cars recently?
Wol Euler: after decades of researchers getting nowhere while trying to make cars that fly,
Wol Euler: an american team has succeeded in making a plane that you can drive :)

    --BELL--

Wol Euler: it has US road- and airworthiness certificates and is about to go into production
oO0Oo Resident: Interesting... will look for the TED talk
Wol Euler: it was fairly recent, not more than a month ago
oO0Oo Resident: I have never played WoW, but hear that the team relationships can be very tight, and was impressed by comments that Joi Ito made in a video about his own involvement. He said deep trust forms between the people on teams.
    Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: I'm not that deeply into the game, I haven't yet reached level 85, but I have already seen that starting to happen
Wol Euler: you spend a lot of time with your guildies, watching their backs while they watch yours
oO0Oo Resident: Does one advance levels as a guild? or as an individual?
    Wol Euler: both
Wol Euler: guilds advance in competition with other guilds, through the achievements of their members
Wol Euler: that brings advantages to the members, like a slightly higher typical amount of money looted, or faster travelling
Wol Euler: as an individual you advance through the levels, gaining new abilities and improving others
Wol Euler: enabling you to enter new areas of the world
Wol Euler: for instance you go from running everywhere, to getting a first mount (horse, say) at level 20, then a faster one at level 40, then faster again at level 60, then flying at level 80
oO0Oo Resident: It strikes me, not knowing the game, that it could be a kind of model, a forerunner, of future social networks, that use bottom up leadership, and reward cooperation, and in many ways, side-step top down leadership strategies.
Wol Euler: yep, very much so
Wol Euler: there is already research being done on incorporating game-play style of teamwork into office work
Wol Euler: making the upward career path, and what you need to do to move along it, explicit and open
Wol Euler: first reports are encouraging :) people like it, it seems to be understandable and to motivate people
    oO0Oo Resident: yes
    oO0Oo Resident: grassrootsish
    Wol Euler: heheheh
oO0Oo Resident: and distributed and collective power
oO0Oo Resident: and ability to carry on agendas over time, with long term vision
    Wol Euler: yep
Wol Euler: people work really hard at games like WoW

    --BELL--

Wol Euler: I've listened in the team voice channel as a guild was raiding (fighting against a very high-level boss in a dungeon instance)
Wol Euler: it was choreographed like a dance routine
    oO0Oo Resident: :)
oO0Oo Resident: Do you know about the voice Client/server Mumble/Murmer?
Wol Euler: yes, I used mumble in that guild
oO0Oo Resident: :) Meant to be very good... low latency etc
Wol Euler: vaguely like skype for loosely-connected groups :)
    Wol Euler: yep
Wol Euler: there are many ohters: teamspeak, v... what's the name? v-something
    oO0Oo Resident: Ventrilo
    Wol Euler: right! ty
oO0Oo Resident: Wonder if you can get this video Wol: http://is.gd/bKqMX4
    Wol Euler: interesting
    Wol Euler: (yes, it worked)
Wol Euler: I've never (yet) had any problem with lag in WoW
Wol Euler: unlike SL all of the data except people's locations in space and the results of combat is already on your computer
Wol Euler: uploads and downloads are minimal, an hour of playing WoW will typically only run about 25 Mb of data.
Wol Euler: SL is at least 20 times that, maybe 50 or more if you TP a lot
    oO0Oo Resident: wow :)
    oO0Oo Resident: 3rd life?
Wol Euler: on the other hand, the SL client is tiny, but installing WoW is a 6 gigabyte download
Wol Euler: with multi-hundred-MB upgrades every other month
oO0Oo Resident: What is the monetary model for WoW?
Wol Euler: free up to level 20, after that a monthly subscription
Wol Euler: if I remeber rightly it's around 25 Euros a month
Wol Euler: but to be honest I don't know :)
Wol Euler: I signed up, they take money, end of story
Wol Euler: there are then extra service fees
oO0Oo Resident: Wol.. I have something I'd like you to sign... ;)
Wol Euler: you can buy special mounts or pretty pets, which cost RL money
Wol Euler: renaming your character, or moving to another server so you can play with your friends, costs RL money

    --BELL--

At this point we moved into IM for over an hour.

oO0Oo Resident snorts and wipes a little drool from the corner of my mouth. Um.. I think we feel asleep Wol :)
    Wol Euler: whu? whaa?
Wol Euler rubs her eyes and looks around in surprise.
oO0Oo Resident lifts head from feathers
    Wol Euler smiles
    oO0Oo Resident: sure was cozy
    Wol Euler: warm too
    oO0Oo Resident: :)
Wol Euler: but it is time, yes, we've been here three hours :)
    oO0Oo Resident stretches and yawns
Wol Euler grins, reaches in under your arms and tickles you
oO0Oo Resident: hehehehehhe hey! hey! Not awake yet ::scowls with a grin:::
    Wol Euler: hehehe
Wol Euler: well, we both have shopping to do :) it was a great session, thank you Sam
oO0Oo Resident: No animals hurt during the making of this session, and minimal karma generated.. Thanks Wol. Good to see you as always. :)
    Wol Euler: heheheh
Wol Euler: some coffee beans had to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Wol Euler: but they did so gladly
    oO0Oo Resident: lol
    oO0Oo Resident: kk standing
Wol Euler: bye for now <3
