The Guardian for this meeting was Storm Nordwind. The comments are by Storm Nordwind.
Weather.
Storm Nordwind: Good morning Dash
Dash Earthboy: mornin' Storm :)
Storm Nordwind: How are you this fine morning?
Dash Earthboy: thinking of my weather RL vs this snow :) Are you enjoying snow there in RL?
Dash Earthboy: hey Eliza
Storm Nordwind: No not this morning. I'm just playing. It's 51 degrees here in RL and clear blue sky
Dash Earthboy: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Wow Snow! Hi Dash, was thinking about you... hope all is well this Thanksgiving day
Storm Nordwind: Good morning Eliza. Love the outfit!
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Storm! :) Thanks :))
Dash Earthboy: we have 9C here in RL but have had fireplace going last night and again this morning
Dash Earthboy: guess we're colder than you have Storm :)
Eliza Madrigal: It has these too, but the hat is a bit overboard. Wow, fireplace... so nice
Storm Nordwind: Nah - it's more or less the same around the city
Eliza Madrigal: hot here in Miami :) could go to the beach...
Dash Earthboy: in that outfit? LOL
Eliza Madrigal: heheh
Storm Nordwind: Just looking around the 20 weather stations within 5 miles of here and they range from 37 to 53. :)
Skating.
Storm Nordwind: But that outfit is going to look superb when you're skating around the Dome!
Eliza Madrigal: Oh Stevenia! Morning, speaking of superb Winter garb...
Storm Nordwind: Morning Steve
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, was getting a bit cold for a while, catching up to the season now
Eliza Madrigal: TY Storm... haven't peeked over there yet
stevenaia Michinaga: hi Dash, Eliza, Storm
Storm Nordwind: Nothing new there in the Dome until after this weekend Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: okay, will hold onto the ponies....
Storm Nordwind chuckles
stevenaia Michinaga: I'll be ready to skate
Storm Nordwind: yay!
Eliza Madrigal: :)
--BELL--
Passports.
Storm Nordwind: So what news dear friends? I'm afraid I have had to be out of world for the last two weeks.
Dash Earthboy: well, i'm back in GA
Eliza Madrigal thinks, listens for others....
stevenaia Michinaga: Can't imagine the email backup
Dash Earthboy: planning to liquidate my estate
Eliza Madrigal: to return to CO?
Dash Earthboy: nope
Eliza Madrigal: you seemed contented there
Dash Earthboy: trying to get passport...first in my this life
Eliza Madrigal: oh :)
stevenaia Michinaga: have you posted anything for sale online?
stevenaia Michinaga: even your home
Storm Nordwind remembers that my wife got her first passport when she met me!
Dash Earthboy: not so far....can be done in Second Life too?
stevenaia Michinaga: and estate
stevenaia Michinaga: hmmm, never thought of that
Dash Earthboy: oh, you meant Craig's , Stev?
Eliza Madrigal: :) Storm, I got my first passport to prepare to go to the first NS retreat..
stevenaia Michinaga: strange needing a passport to go to Canada now
Dash Earthboy: yah
Eliza Madrigal: yes it is
Eliza Madrigal: sigh
Dash Earthboy: amazing changes to me
Dash Earthboy: had only been in Canada 1-2 days before just over border near Detroit
Dash Earthboy: and now need passport for that? sheesh
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Storm Nordwind: Where will you travel to?
Dash Earthboy: hope to visit Europe :)
Dash Earthboy: friends offered to take me there in 70s
Dash Earthboy: probably should have gone then :\
Food.
Eliza Madrigal: (brb, checking the food... already the house smells yummy)
Storm Nordwind was recently rereading Bill Bryson's funny travelogue "Neither here nor there" about his visit to Europe.
Dash Earthboy: i'll be making pancakes soon...nothing too fancy today
Dash Earthboy: turkey pot pie for my visitor :)
Storm Nordwind will be resting from cooking today - and letting friends do it all!
Dash Earthboy: but i'll make nice squash/potato/apple casserole to go with that :)
Dash Earthboy: good to have friends like that, Storm :)
Dash Earthboy: left roomies in CO w/$800 of groceries to play with
stevenaia Michinaga: We will travel with a cooked turkey today to relatives
Dash Earthboy: even some from Schwan's
Storm Nordwind: o_O that's a lot of groceries Dash!
Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: left their freezers, pantry and cupboards packed full of good nutrition :)
Dash Earthboy: 3 whole organic/free-range chickens for instance
stevenaia Michinaga: things like that don't travel well
Dash Earthboy: :)
Eliza Madrigal: very nice Dash, reading
--BELL--
Dash Earthboy: and bison, shrimp, turkey, veggies, sweet potatoes, ice cream, pies, just a huge variety for hundreds of meals :)
Storm Nordwind: Will your old friends know what to do with it all? :)
Dash Earthboy: oh, yah
Dash Earthboy: fem used shrimp in gumbo already before I left
Dash Earthboy: just a little of that shrimp I mean
Dash Earthboy: but I'm eating well here too
Dash Earthboy: we polished off a key lime pie in just 2 days :)
Eliza Madrigal: took 2 days? a disgrace... hehe....
Dash Earthboy: just 2 ppl
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Dash Earthboy: yah
Storm Nordwind: You must have been distracted
stevenaia Michinaga: Will try not to overeat today
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: how do you think that'll go, Stevenia?
stevenaia Michinaga: wearing loose clothing
Dash Earthboy: one thing, roomies & visitor here all like good coffee too so i provide much of that
Eliza Madrigal: :) for preparing not to overeat...hm..... what a plan
Dash Earthboy: what is "overeating"?
Dash Earthboy: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Nice to have pleasant company around, that's the main thing
Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: much to be thankful for
"Life is nothing if you're not obsessed."
Storm Nordwind wonders about having 'too much' of a good thing
Eliza Madrigal: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I'm told that it is a cultural definition
Eliza Madrigal: 'he who lives within his means suffers from a lack of imagination' Oscar Wilde....
stevenaia Michinaga: and depends on the size of the plate
Storm Nordwind: and the pocket no doubt
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Dash Earthboy: :)
Eliza Madrigal: resources are meant to play together... so indulgent meal good to pair with long walk perhaps....
Eliza Madrigal: lots of laughter
Storm Nordwind chuckles
Eliza Madrigal: I say this, but it will be very simple here today... small meal, kids off the the movies later...
Dash Earthboy: movies here :)
Storm Nordwind remembers a favorite quote that, years ago, used to be his email sig: "Life is nothing if you're not obsessed"
Eliza Madrigal: :))) like that
Dash Earthboy: and maybe some music
Storm Nordwind: (Eliza, it's from the John Waters 1998 movie "Pecker")
Eliza Madrigal: I noticed over the last year, that trying to be more organized and manage time, for instance with 'less journaling' had a cost overall, in creativity... certain obsessions or even compulsions may have their reasons :)
Eliza Madrigal googles
stevenaia Michinaga: The classic with Chritina Richie
Time management.
Storm Nordwind: I used to teach so-called Time Management, and the first thing I taught was that you can't manage time! ;)
Dash Earthboy: i'm still getting calls from former customers about how the company I worked for did them wrong
Eliza Madrigal: :)) I think one finds this out by trying to....
stevenaia Michinaga: an intersting way to get into time discussion Storm, you manage time, or it manages you?
Eliza Madrigal: lots of time management systems... maybe all with the wrong end of the stick
Dash Earthboy: company had us use personal cell phone numbers for contact and then fired most of us on Oct 5
Storm Nordwind: Neither Stevie. You can manage the events but not the time itself.
Dash Earthboy: now they're discontinuing the ISP/phone service we marketed
stevenaia Michinaga: aren't all events inevitable?
Eliza Madrigal: interesting angle
Storm Nordwind: How do you mean Steve?
Dash Earthboy: inevitable events, all?
--BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: looking ahead the 90 seconds comes at the 1/4 hour no matter what you do about it, no matter how you plan, isn't it true with everything?
Dash Earthboy: i think not
Storm Nordwind: I could stop it in an instant :)
Eliza Madrigal: 'life is what happens while you're busy making other plans' you mean, Stevie?
stevenaia Michinaga: and only you :)
Eliza Madrigal: but if you weren't 'here' it wouldn't happen
Dash Earthboy: just my journey back here had events that were determined by where I was and when, based on my choices
Eliza Madrigal: (for you)
stevenaia Michinaga: nice about the future, inevitable, but unknown
Eliza Madrigal: more and more I find time relational
stevenaia Michinaga: relational to what?
Eliza Madrigal: company I may be in, perception of the fullness or emptiness of the day, tht sort of thing
Dash Earthboy: *cutting coupon from key lime pie box...
Values and priorities.
Storm Nordwind: From a conventional point of view, many people are at the behest of other people's intent.
Storm Nordwind: Effectively they can end up being used by other people.
Storm Nordwind: So I taught them how to analyse their personal values in depth.
Storm Nordwind: Then I taught them how to set life priorities according to those values.
Storm Nordwind: As a result they were able to manage their own time instead of being indirectly managed by others.
Eliza Madrigal: mmm
Dash Earthboy: how does that work in traffic jams, Storm?
Eliza Madrigal: have you ever had 'no time' but then you find a new obsession then all of a sudden there is 'more' ?
Eliza Madrigal: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: traffic jam, lifes way of saying slow down and enjoy
Storm Nordwind: Indeed, Elize - flexibility and looking at oneself regularly and reappraising is key
Storm Nordwind: Then my life is one large traffic jam Steve - for isn't that the only way to be?
Eliza Madrigal nods... have made a lot of 'plans' that then mock me
stevenaia Michinaga: yes storm, that is very nice
Dash Earthboy: point being, time is indirectly managed by others in traffic jam :)
stevenaia Michinaga: who/waht manages the "Jam"
Eliza Madrigal: time in a traffic jam is different for a free runner
Storm Nordwind: Traffic jams are fleeting. If they were not, I'd get out and walk! :)
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: what I found with the journaling is that I integrate things that way, so by cutting it down, I cut down the flow a bit... something like that
Eliza Madrigal: traffic jams seem an apt metaphor!
stevenaia Michinaga: speaking with which, I ahve a traffic jam of dishes at the sink
Storm Nordwind: haha!
Eliza Madrigal giggles
stevenaia Michinaga: see you all soon
Storm Nordwind waves
Eliza Madrigal: Bye for now, enjoy
Dash Earthboy: bye Eliza
Dash Earthboy: bye Stev
Dash Earthboy: bye Storm
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Dash
Dash Earthboy: pax et bonum, y'all :)
Storm Nordwind waves
What makes one's heart sing.
Storm Nordwind: It sounds like journaling is an important exercise for you Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: It is, very much so Storm...
Eliza Madrigal: but if felt indulgent for a while
Eliza Madrigal: because it takes a certain amount of 'time' usually
Storm Nordwind: Yes
Eliza Madrigal: which I 'thought' I might put elsewhere
Eliza Madrigal: being so literal :)
Storm Nordwind: Again, values > priorities > actions
Storm Nordwind: So if journaling is important, you can allow space for it
Eliza Madrigal: indeed, values before priorities.... what makes one's heart sing?
Storm Nordwind: Yes! very much so :)
Storm Nordwind thanks Eliza for the title of this session :))
Eliza Madrigal: :)) ((((Storm))))))
Eliza Madrigal: Nice to say Happy Thanksgiving
Storm Nordwind: Thank you - yes - and to you and yours too. :))
Eliza Madrigal: thanks so much, love to dear one
Storm Nordwind: Take care my friend. Journey well :))
Eliza Madrigal: :)) and you too
Eliza Madrigal: ty

Storm Nordwind notes the similarity between "journey" and "journal"
