Alfred Kelberry: people talk about pulitzer for that explosion photograph
Xirana Oximoxi: I did not see it mighty:)
druth Vlodovic: you'd think people would have found better things to do than go about killing each other
druth Vlodovic: but I guess everyone needs a hobby
Xirana Oximoxi: what is it about?
Santoshima Resident: senseless killing
Alfred Kelberry: syrian war
Xirana Oximoxi: yes, I see...serious and sad subject

Santoshima Resident: grrr
Alfred Kelberry: san, actually, it's not that senseless. they fight for freedom, presumably.
Xirana Oximoxi: it was easy to solve..:))
druth Vlodovic: "too many hands makes for very interesting broth"
Santoshima Resident: killing is only senseless, boxy
Santoshima Resident: nomatter the "reason"
Alfred Kelberry: yes, fair enough
Alfred Kelberry: i'm at loss though as to how it can be solved peacefully at this point
Xirana Oximoxi: in my view, before killing nearly all the country and destroying all ...one must look for all other ways to understanding...and I know it's not easy at all
Xirana Oximoxi: hello Zen:)
Zen Arado: Hi all
Santoshima Resident: hello Zen :)
druth Vlodovic: iin the long term one of the great difficulties of using violence for political change is that those who thrive in such an environment tend to be the same type as caused the problems
druth Vlodovic: hey zen
Alfred Kelberry: this proposed pulitzer for this set of images is also a controversial matter
Alfred Kelberry: mr zen :)
Zen Arado: weird...I'm still getting perfect paradise stream here
Santoshima Resident: i noticed that also a day ago, leaving another sim
Santoshima Resident: sound stayed connected
Alfred Kelberry: afterglow of paradise :)
Xirana Oximoxi: it has been controversial long time ago too...a photograpehr took a picture that won the prize, and some time after he suicided...
Alfred Kelberry: oh, i did not hear this story
Santoshima Resident: images of what Xir?
Xirana Oximoxi: http://www.google.es/search?q=pulitz...w=1280&bih=685
Xirana Oximoxi: this images
Xirana Oximoxi: very sad
Alfred Kelberry: yea
--BELL--
Alfred Kelberry: "He was the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize for his photograph depicting the 1993 famine in Sudan. He committed suicide at the age of 33."
Xirana Oximoxi: it was at 1993...and I still have this image in my mind.... I wonder about the work of photographers when disaster, wars....
Alfred Kelberry: from his suicide note: "I am depressed ... without phone ... money for rent ... money for child support ... money for debts ... money!!! ... I am haunted by the vivid memories of killings and corpses and anger and pain ... of starving or wounded children, of trigger-happy madmen, often police, of killer executioners ... I have gone to join Ken [recently deceased colleague Ken Oosterbroek] if I am that lucky."
Xirana Oximoxi: I mean..if they don't take pictures.. we would not be aware of a lot of things happening
Alfred Kelberry: i take it the financial difficulties were the main reason
Alfred Kelberry: xiri, true
Santoshima Resident: PTSD
Santoshima Resident: likely
Xirana Oximoxi: yes...that's possible...but the image is impressive anyway
Xirana Oximoxi: ptsd?
Santoshima Resident: post traumatic stress disorder
Xirana Oximoxi: aha..thank you San :)
Santoshima Resident: yw
Alfred Kelberry: a common diagnosis for war veterans
Zen Arado: some things we see the mind can't take
Santoshima Resident: yes, true
Zen Arado: maybe our ignorance protects us
Xirana Oximoxi: sometimes I think that actually we live too informed...there have always been wars...but when it was at the other side of the world people was not aware of it...now we have information about all countries
druth Vlodovic: I remember a while ago being in a bad mood and wondering why people like horror so much
Alfred Kelberry: ms woly :)
Wol Euler: hello all
Zen Arado: we become numbed by TV pictures
druth Vlodovic: so I tried to watch some clips from saw
Santoshima Resident: hello Wol :)
Zen Arado: Hi Wol
druth Vlodovic: hey wol
Santoshima Resident: saw?
Xirana Oximoxi: hello Wol:)
Alfred Kelberry: xiri, good point
druth Vlodovic: can't imagine enjoying such images
Zen Arado: it's so diffeent to actually being there
Alfred Kelberry: not into horror, but enjoy a good thriller :)
Wol Euler: I can't stay long, I have an appointment at 8am
Santoshima Resident: nice you dropped by, Wol!
Xirana Oximoxi: nice you've come :)
Wol Euler: ty :)
Zen Arado: but maybe helpers become immune a bit too
Alfred Kelberry: *grabs woly's foot* NOT going :)
druth Vlodovic: gtsy though, have fun there
Zen Arado: like doctors have to distance themsleves
druth Vlodovic: they say surgeons and family doctors need different mindsets
Zen Arado: you just couldn't bear the burden of too much compassion maybe
Xirana Oximoxi: yes Zen, and plus we get used to see disasters and terrible images on tv.... we can still have dinner watching the news
Zen Arado: yes
druth Vlodovic: you wouldn't want a doctor who saw you dispassionately as a machine, or a surgeon who didn't
Zen Arado: good point Druth
druth Vlodovic: I wish they'd have a censored and uncensored version of the news
Zen Arado: which would you watch?
druth Vlodovic: I like to know that things are being known and recorded, but I don't always want to see
druth Vlodovic: I have a delicate stomach
Wol Euler: Norway did, there were two versions of the news website, with and without Breivik
Alfred Kelberry: zen, numbed by tv, it's very true. i look at those syrian reports and it's like watching a movie or something. you sit in the morning, sip your cup of tea, nice and cozy - and observe gun fire, screams, blood...
druth Vlodovic: how well does it work wol?
Zen Arado: we are so powerless to help
Wol Euler: I've no idea
Wol Euler: I don't know why it would not work perfectly
Wol Euler: the people who made that split also load the stories into the website
Zen Arado: it gives us the reality qwithout much means of helping istuation
Alfred Kelberry: i assume you're free to choose what source to read
Xirana Oximoxi: sorry...I must go quick,,,stormy again here...see you soon!! :)
Wol Euler: anyway, I must mmove on
Wol Euler: take care, enjoy the day
druth Vlodovic: well,we have not enough power to solve everything, this isn't the same as powerless, though it often feels like it
Santoshima Resident: bye Xir ~ gtsy
Santoshima Resident: and bye Wol
druth Vlodovic: once you accept feeling powerless...
druth Vlodovic: bye xir, wol
Zen Arado: feel like a drop in the ocean of suffering
Zen Arado: anyway byee
Santoshima Resident: bye Zen
Santoshima Resident: and bye all
Santoshima Resident: thank you
--BELL--
Alfred Kelberry: poof
Alfred Kelberry: be good and non suffering
druth Vlodovic: cya
