Saving One's Self

Lucinda Lavender: I was just sitting adjusting my face a bit...ever since being a cat I have had some differences that needed thinking about...
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Wol Euler: interesting statement :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes
Lucinda Lavender: I guess I have never known how to save myself very sell
Lucinda Lavender: well
Eliza Madrigal: and another :)
Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: would you care to talk about that feeling? how the cat changed it for you?
Lucinda Lavender: sure...I liked being cat...
Lucinda Lavender: and it was pretty simple as an experience...but going back to a human avi was not consistent with who I was before being a cat...
Wol Euler: ah!
Eliza Madrigal: that makes sense
Lucinda Lavender: I looked sadder and skinnier
Wol Euler: so being a cat was a real change to your identification with the avatar
Wol Euler nods.
Lucinda Lavender: nodding
Eliza Madrigal: good time to make adjustments... before taking a hosting picture for the board (nice additions yesterday too!)
Wol Euler smiles.
Lucinda Lavender: I would love to put a picture up..how does one do that?
Wol Euler: you don't :) just take a snapshot of yourself using the half-shell that Bleu set up, behind the board
Wol Euler: mail it to her
Wol Euler: she puts the title (your name) on it and posts it on your spot
Lucinda Lavender: ok:)how does one place it in an email...is it in this world or the next?
Wol Euler: wehn you take a snapshot here, you have the choice of where to save it: your inventory or your disk.
Wol Euler: save to disk and then use outside-of-SL email to send it to her
Lucinda Lavender: ok
Eliza Madrigal: also, as a practical matter one of the best things I learned to do this year, was to save entire outfits including skins and shapes, etc
Wol Euler: definitely!
Wol Euler: saves lots of time
Lucinda Lavender: well I would love to know too...
Wol Euler: I have a folder in "body parts" called "standard wol"
Eliza Madrigal: yes, and you can include different AOs and such if you're into details
Wol Euler: everything that I always use (shape, skin, hair, eyes) is in there
Lucinda Lavender: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, that's a good idea
Wol Euler: so when I want to get back to normal me after being a cat, I just put on that one folder
Wol Euler: tada!
Lucinda Lavender: standard wol :))
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Lucinda Lavender: great...in body parts huh:)
Wol Euler: well, has to go somehwere, and that is always up at the top of the list :)
Eliza Madrigal: Would you like to save what you are in now Luci? Can walk you through
Lucinda Lavender: great. to save do we push save as?
Eliza Madrigal: There is a "my outfits" folder it will save to generally, but I like the idea of having a standard model to access
Eliza Madrigal: When you are editing appearance there is a "save outfit" option
Lucinda Lavender: well not quite yet...I need a rounder face yet
Eliza Madrigal: and you can name it what you like "ie Lucinda for the beach" :)
Lucinda Lavender: ok...I will try this one.
Lucinda Lavender: I think I have already saved it as "hue girl"
Eliza Madrigal: ohh
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Alfred Kelberry: hi
Wol Euler: boxy
Eliza Madrigal: Hue are you? Hue, me?
Alfred Kelberry: 3 cute lovely girls
Eliza Madrigal: :) Hi Boxy
Alfred Kelberry: this must be friday
Wol Euler grins.
Lucinda Lavender: :))
Eliza Madrigal: Did you both see the Brain Pickings article about David Byrne's book?
Lucinda Lavender: I did!
Lucinda Lavender: have not read it yet tho...
Wol Euler: not yet
Eliza Madrigal: all about context... wonderful
Alfred Kelberry: who is david byrne?
Lucinda Lavender: Hi Boxy:)
Eliza Madrigal: http://www.brainpickings.org/index.p...w-music-works/
Wol Euler: O.O
Wol Euler: good god.
Eliza Madrigal: o.O
Wol Euler: that's like asking who Putin is.
Lucinda Lavender: he is a musician, artist...was in the Talking HEads...
Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: I guess it#s a generational thing.
Lucinda Lavender: takes me back to before having children:)
Alfred Kelberry: ah, talking heads. yes, sounds familiar.

Up comes a dream during the pause

Eliza Madrigal: Hi San
Wol Euler: hello san
Lucinda Lavender: HI San:)
Santoshima Resident: hi :))
Alfred Kelberry: if they were as famous as the beatles or pink floyd, i'd know him, i guess :)
Lucinda Lavender: during the pause I thought back to this morning's dream...
Eliza Madrigal listens
Lucinda Lavender: finding a bathroom on the playground...if there is one it will have to be cleaned... and checked each time we leave the playground...I tell this to some very tall people who also work in the building.
Lucinda Lavender: maybe it will be more work...was the thought. How it got there I do not know
Alfred Kelberry: kids playground?
Lucinda Lavender: yes at school where I work
Lucinda Lavender: working overtime in the dream perhaps
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Alfred Kelberry: ask for a raise
Lucinda Lavender: :)))
Eliza Madrigal: everything needs maintenance
Lucinda Lavender: yes...
Alfred Kelberry: there's a new movie about a teacher who is trying to change the system
Alfred Kelberry: trailer looks good
Santoshima Resident: more dealing with basice functions, luci
Lucinda Lavender: sounds interesting...yes San
Santoshima Resident: bsice = basic
Wol Euler: basics are important, especially with kids
Santoshima Resident: yup
Wol Euler: does that mirror your recent RL in any way, perhaps?
Lucinda Lavender: well there have been changes on the playground and there are more places to hide...they took a tube slide apart and made hidy holes ...
Lucinda Lavender: children do need to play at being alone I guess
Lucinda Lavender: some mirroring yes
Eliza Madrigal: :) we all need to play at being alone
Lucinda Lavender: and we teachers have to scan the environment before leaving...
Wol Euler nods.
Alfred Kelberry: luci, was it a local decision or some psych board evaluation assigned the change?
Lucinda Lavender: no child left behind...:)
Eliza Madrigal: counting heads
Wol Euler: heheheh
Santoshima Resident: brb, cat demanding food
Lucinda Lavender: well I think it was decided by the school on the first floor...we are on the sceond...and they consult the national Association for the Education of Young Child guidelines
Alfred Kelberry: nice
Lucinda Lavender: they wanted to take out the swings!
Wol Euler: O.O
Eliza Madrigal: :(
Alfred Kelberry: dangerous equipment?
Lucinda Lavender: it takes to much 1 on 1 time!
Eliza Madrigal: that is so sad
Alfred Kelberry: hmm
Lucinda Lavender: yep...
Wol Euler: absurd.
Lucinda Lavender: they have left them for us tho
Lucinda Lavender: I know...
Alfred Kelberry: maybe there were fights for the swings? :)
Lucinda Lavender: don't take the swings I thought!!
Wol Euler: what kind of 1 on 1 time do swings require? Don't kids just swing on them?
Eliza Madrigal: we had 'awful' toys in my childhood playgrounds and yes there were some major accidents but hm... gets kinda crazy
Eliza Madrigal: awful meaning really fun :)
Lucinda Lavender: well kids ask to be pushed and the end up knocking down the little ones that wander into the territory
Wol Euler: look, kids will hav accidents unless you strap them down in bed 24/7 -- and if you do that they will die too
Eliza Madrigal: metal slides in 90 degree weather
Wol Euler: O.O
Wol Euler: well, yes, I remember how hot they got
Lucinda Lavender: yikes yes
Eliza Madrigal: :) sandboxes... oh my the petri dish
Lucinda Lavender: :))
Eliza Madrigal: :) but metal slides are more fun than plastic ones when sprinklers are on
Eliza Madrigal: alas
Lucinda Lavender: guidelines are good and not always fun to maintain
Eliza Madrigal: no sprinklers allowed I'm sure
--BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: I have an appointment this morning so need to pop away , thanks much
Wol Euler: bye eliza, take care
Alfred Kelberry: be good
Santoshima Resident: bye
Alfred Kelberry: appoint well
Lucinda Lavender: bye Eliza...godd day to you...
Eliza Madrigal: tc, bye for now
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Alfred Kelberry: ah, nice warm cushion!
Wol Euler smiles.
Lucinda Lavender: I :))
Alfred Kelberry: i see your two other pics are gone, woly
Wol Euler: eh?
Alfred Kelberry: sat and sun
Wol Euler: oh, why did she do that?
Alfred Kelberry: guess she waits for other poses :)
Wol Euler nods.
Alfred Kelberry: storm's gaze is not very friendly there :)
Lucinda Lavender: thinking back to how it felt when I first came here...wondering if anyone else can remember how it felt when they first came...
Santoshima Resident: yes, can remember very well
Wol Euler: hello korel
Lucinda Lavender: Hi Korel:)
Alfred Kelberry: i thought this group is very suspicious :)
Alfred Kelberry: kori girl!
Santoshima Resident: hi korel :)
Wol Euler: yea, but you still do think that, boxy.
Alfred Kelberry: somewhat
Korel Laloix: Heya
Lucinda Lavender: Heya
Lucinda Lavender: the experience of look around
Lucinda Lavender: looking
Lucinda Lavender: looking at the other people
Lucinda Lavender: imagination engaged
Alfred Kelberry: i saw how pema was recruiting people for some new group and from what i gathered it was a spiritual new age kind of thing :)
Lucinda Lavender: In second life was it?
Alfred Kelberry: i did open myself for a new experience though after the pheno workshop came up
Wol Euler: he means this group :) new to him
Alfred Kelberry: luci, yes
Santoshima Resident: came here looking for a friend who had gone missing in rl
Lucinda Lavender: ah I get it..
Santoshima Resident: had never heard of PaB before
Santoshima Resident: nor sl
Santoshima Resident: it was weird
Wol Euler: O.O wow, san.
Lucinda Lavender: gosh San...
Santoshima Resident: it's been very fascinating
Santoshima Resident: and have learned a lot
Santoshima Resident: decideonmentd to use this envir
Wol Euler: what happened? did they turn up?
Alfred Kelberry: then i got friendly with people, learned a lot about buddhist traditions, it wasn't all that bad, so i tagged along :)
Santoshima Resident: as a place to learn
Santoshima Resident: yes, wol
Wol Euler: good
Santoshima Resident: { garbled sentence above: "decided to use this environement as a place to learn"}
Lucinda Lavender: nodding...
Lucinda Lavender: a very interesting place to learn...
Lucinda Lavender: Almost time for me to go...
Korel Laloix: SL in general has been very formative to me.
Alfred Kelberry: yes
Alfred Kelberry: 8 am
Lucinda Lavender: good day to all.
Korel Laloix: And PaB has been very educational.
Korel Laloix: Ciao.
Wol Euler: bye luci, take care
Santoshima Resident: bye,luci
Lucinda Lavender: thanks all... all of you:)
--BELL--

Alfred Kelberry: kori, yes. i met quite extraordinary people here.
Alfred Kelberry: most of them had quit sl a while ago
Korel Laloix: And as I have mentioned, I have been in SL a quarter of my life.
Wol Euler: still an amazing statement :)
Alfred Kelberry: kori, you doze it well
Korel Laloix: doze?
Alfred Kelberry: balance sl and rl
Korel Laloix: Well I mostly do SL when a captive audience at work really.
Korel Laloix: But thank you.
Wol Euler: I've got anohter ten years before I can say that, korel :)
Korel Laloix smiles
Alfred Kelberry: by that time we'll all wear google glasses and be in sl on the go :)
Korel Laloix: It has been a whild ride for sure.
Korel Laloix: Looking back at the person I was when I joined is like looking at cartoon character almost.. so akwarnd and messy.
Wol Euler smiles.
Alfred Kelberry: kori, anything exciting to share from the lectures?
Korel Laloix: Not really at the moment.
Korel Laloix: More into theory this smester than current events.
Santoshima Resident: please excuse me ~ bye and thanks!
Korel Laloix: ciao.
Wol Euler: bye san
Korel Laloix: back in a bit.. work

And on to various forms of currency

Alfred Kelberry: woly, not sure if i showed this to you
Alfred Kelberry: do you recognize these? http://up.keep.se/ca.jpg
Wol Euler: I remember the bottom one, certainly, that was during my childhood
Alfred Kelberry: cool :)
Wol Euler: that stylized maple leaf of green triangles was for the celebration of Confederation in 1967
Alfred Kelberry: oh, it looked to me like a david's star :)
Wol Euler: nah
Wol Euler: it only has five peaks
Wol Euler: and a stem
Alfred Kelberry: different cultural patterns, i guess :)
Alfred Kelberry: can you pay with them these days?
Wol Euler: no, the $1 notes were withdrawn a few years ago
Wol Euler: lowest denomination as a paper note now is 4
Wol Euler: *5
--BELL--

Wol Euler: and in fact they are plastic not paper
Alfred Kelberry: oh yes, i like plastic bills
Alfred Kelberry: more durable and fancy
Alfred Kelberry: i'd rather use nfc for payments
Wol Euler: what's that?
Alfred Kelberry: it's when you pay with a phone
Alfred Kelberry: near field communication
Alfred Kelberry: they want to install those on the subway
Wol Euler: hmmmm
Wol Euler: you have a great deal of trust in the phone company, and hte people who wrote your phone#s software
Alfred Kelberry: same goes to online payment :)
Alfred Kelberry: or banks for that matter
Wol Euler: yes, but different
Wol Euler: when I get money from the cash machine, I can count it
Wol Euler: it doesn't disappear from my pocket without my hand moving it
Alfred Kelberry: yes, but increasingly more payments are virtual
Alfred Kelberry: i think cash will take up a minuscule percent in the future
--BELL--

Alfred Kelberry: well
Alfred Kelberry: i'm off now
Alfred Kelberry: you rest well
Wol Euler: take care, boxy
Alfred Kelberry: no more work
Wol Euler: see you later
Alfred Kelberry: :)
