Zen Arado: Just musing..I know we like the feel of these mechanical writing implements and paraphernalia we use – I even get a thrill from seeing words magically appear as I voice type them… but.. Isn’t the plain bottom line fact of this, we have thoughts in our heads that we have to transfer to paper or other media? We want to capture the elusive thoughts, make a static physical representation of something we have dreamed up in our imagination, something preservable though static; and tangible; that others can see and appreciate or discuss. So anything physical and elaborate acts as an impediment to the flow of thoughts onto the page surely? For reading, paper seems to be becoming obsolete as more opt for Kindles and other ebook readers. I use voice typing but I was wondering this morning if ‘thought recognition’ will be here soon? I have seen people control cursors using thoughts only. And don’t we subvocalise a lot when we write? I notice that I do. A language of thought. Wouldn’t it save a lot of time if we didn’t have to use any kind of physical apparatus, if we could bypass even the physical operation of speech? A kind of mediumless message?
