2012.09.11 19:00 - Troubling Compassion

The Guardian for this meeting was Eos Amaterasu. The comments are by Eos Amaterasu.

    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
    stevenaia Michinaga: Greetings
    Eos Amaterasu: ~~

Eos Amaterasu: Is there a theme for this week?
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Bert
    Bertrum Resident: hi everyone
stevenaia Michinaga: none, unless we decide otherwise
    stevenaia Michinaga: hi Bert
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Eliza Madrigal: There was none chosen, no, although on Bleu's potential host board she posted the sample "compassion"
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bertrum
stevenaia Michinaga: host board? was that in the email?
Eliza Madrigal: well she did display a sample of it at the pavilion too, though see it didn't stay
stevenaia Michinaga: I really liked what she sent, hope if finds a permenant home
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: (there is a picture in that session)
Eos Amaterasu: complete with mug shots
    Eliza Madrigal laughs
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, I love that it's a week.... any and every week
Eos Amaterasu: feels like a month
stevenaia Michinaga: any idea why it came down?
Eliza Madrigal: it likely is being tweaked :)
stevenaia Michinaga: tweaking is also timeless
Eliza Madrigal: it wasn't interactive yet, and I think Bleu was asking for Storm's input on blending or playing in with pavilion architecture
Eos Amaterasu: Yes, good idea (to not be tacky) - the pavilion has class
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: true, it will become a permanent yet every changing feature
Eos Amaterasu: simple and comprehensible layout (the board)
Eliza Madrigal: yes... like so few things in life :)
    Eos Amaterasu listens
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
    Eliza Madrigal listens too
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

Eos Amaterasu: Re compassion, I think of something you once said, Eliza
Eos Amaterasu: that compassion does not mean not causing trouble (paraphrasing)
Eos Amaterasu: my own take on that is that it comes out of being able to be with what is really happening with oneself, the good/bad/ugly, not imagining an ideal state in oneself (to be achieved)
    Eos Amaterasu: that's realer compassion
    stevenaia Michinaga: https://wiki.playasbeing.org/Chat_Logs/2011/12/2011.12.05_19%3a00_-_give_up_idea_of_not_causing_trouble_(while_also_letting_go_of_causing_harm)
Eliza Madrigal: thanks for that, Eos, yes... there is a parallel maybe to learning to sit/meditate and trying to stop thoughts... smooth everything out, at first
    Eos Amaterasu: yes
Eos Amaterasu: letting chaos have its own intelligence
Eos Amaterasu: in upcoming pause: no smoothing out?

    --BELL--

    Eliza Madrigal: nice pause
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi San
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi San
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods, hi San
    Santoshima Resident: hi
stevenaia Michinaga: was listening to a program on the mind, it was saying the brain at rest, pausing, was just as active as when it is "actively" thinking about something, it was just doing "something else"
stevenaia Michinaga: housekeeping... or something, but always busy... perhaps busy letting go :)
Eos Amaterasu: our cells are splitting DNA strands at jet engine speeds
Eliza Madrigal: and then there is the 'junk' around the DNA that is also doing 'something'
Bertrum Resident: dark matter and dark energy:)
Eos Amaterasu: constantly rezzing our world
Eos Amaterasu: from micro to macro
Eliza Madrigal: maybe where 'presence' comes in.... from blind fields
    stevenaia Michinaga: blind fields?
Eliza Madrigal: bit of license on my part... spot seemed too small
Eliza Madrigal: Eos, btw, it was you :) : Eos Amaterasu: so in a sense give up idea of not causing trouble (while also letting go of causing harm)
Eos Amaterasu: but you also made some comment about realizing that in context of relatives or friends....
    Eliza Madrigal: ah, true
Eos Amaterasu: that probably needs some greater love that goes beyond wanting oneself to feel good, and beyond wanting other to (merely) feel good
    Eliza Madrigal: *
Eos Amaterasu: more cosmic in sense of much greater than "you", "me"

    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: not suppressing trouble (or even benefit?) that comes up may also be distinct from looking for it
Eos Amaterasu: (these seem to be the shortest 90 seconds ever.... :-)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eos Amaterasu: also has quality of not protecting yourself so much, so you're willing to jump in (possibly into trouble :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: been thinking about the word harm/trouble related to compassion, does lack if intention to cause harm render any harm you may inadvertently cause, excuseable?
stevenaia Michinaga: (as seens by the person who felt harmed?.
    stevenaia Michinaga: )
Eos Amaterasu: harm and trouble are not the same thing
stevenaia Michinaga: it was what my past 90 seconds came up with
Eos Amaterasu: I think this presupposes intention to not cause harm
stevenaia Michinaga: nods, that was an assumption
Eos Amaterasu: but also a practice of uncovering knowing ignoring of what is really going on, and what you're really intending
Eliza Madrigal: it is an interesting question ... sometimes apologies for unintentions or limited-sight intentions may be in order
stevenaia Michinaga: sometimes simply dis-agreeing can cause trouble
Eos Amaterasu: I think one "saving grace" is that if you make a move forward, and are not attached to trouble/no-trouble, then you're open to the feedback of the world
Eos Amaterasu: ie, the result of your action itself is not the final thing (result as you imagined it)
Eos Amaterasu: but making a move starts a dialog
    Eliza Madrigal: interesting
Eos Amaterasu: it's not important to be right
stevenaia Michinaga: the world is a complex place, actually it might be simple w/o humans
Eos Amaterasu: ie, openness is more profound than rightness
Santoshima Resident: "you can be right, or you can be happy" quoting a friend
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I have a friend who often "needs" to be right, and they usually are, but many times the world either does not cares or disagrees, would love if they took your words to heart
stevenaia Michinaga: both "Eos Amaterasu: it's not important to be right" and San's
Eliza Madrigal: we may be right in the moment and wrong in a larger context and neither of those ultimately true anyway
Bertrum Resident: Do you all know the Cat Stevens lyrics for "trouble"?
    Santoshima Resident: hmmm
    Eos Amaterasu: no
    Santoshima Resident: not sure
Santoshima Resident: was thinking os Sean Colvin
Bertrum Resident: Trouble Oh trouble set me free I have seen your face And it's too much too much for me Trouble Oh trouble can't you see You're eating my heart away And there's nothing much left of me I've drunk your wine You have made your world mine So won't you be fair So won't you be fair I don't want no more of you So won't you be kind to me Just let me go where I'll have to go there Trouble Oh trouble move away I have seen your face And it's too much for me today Trouble Oh trouble can't you see You have made me a wreck Now won't you leave me in my misery I've seen your eyes And I can see death's disguise Hangin' on me Hangin' on me I'm beat, I'm torn Shattered and tossed and worn Too shocking to see Too shocking to see Trouble Oh trouble move from me I have paid my debt Now won't you leave me in my misery Trouble Oh trouble please be kind I don't want no fight And I haven't got a lot of time
    Santoshima Resident: shawn
Santoshima Resident: can you hum it?
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9qkn7OlbM8
Eliza Madrigal: ty Stevenaia and Bertrum :)

Eliza Madrigal: :) haven't seen it... yet
Eos Amaterasu: trouble could be stirring up sleeping dogs
Santoshima Resident: 1971, something like that
Eos Amaterasu: saw the movie a long time ago - worth watching, I recall
    Santoshima Resident: yes, worth seeking
Eos Amaterasu: sleeping dogs which active ignoring is letting lie
