The Guardian for this meeting was Bleu Oleander. The comments are by Bleu Oleander.
This time was my first time as host for the 7am Sunday session. The new PaB hosts board inspired me to volunteer to host a session. I was wondering if it would be a quiet time, but not soon after I arrived, friends began to show up for a fun conversation.
Bleu Oleander: hey Bert

Bleu Oleander: hey Eliza :)
florella12 Resident: oh okay
florella12 Resident: hi eliza :)
Eliza Madrigal smiles
Bleu Oleander: ella, "The basic idea of "Play as Being" is very simple. Once every fifteen minutes, you take a 9-second break. During that time you relax, and you free up your attention."
florella12 Resident: ohh ok
Bleu Oleander: We record these sessions and publish them on our website, http://wiki.playasbeing.org/. May we have your permission to include your SL name and your comments in the published log?
florella12 Resident: yes.but on what should i comment?
Eliza Madrigal: :)
florella12 Resident: i ahvent attended a meeting as of now
Bleu Oleander: you may comment whenever you like
florella12 Resident: okay
Bleu Oleander: we haven't isolated a topic this morning yet
Eliza Madrigal: rather than having a lot of structure we like to just begin where we begin, and keep up with one another across sessions
Bleu Oleander: hi San
Eliza Madrigal: Hi San
Santoshima Resident: hi Bleu, ELiza
Bertram Jacobus: hi san ! :-)
Santoshima Resident: Bertram and Ella

Eliza Madrigal: oh okay, Bert :)
Santoshima Resident: see ya
--BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: enjoy!
Bleu Oleander: ok great
florella12 Resident: see you :))
Bleu Oleander: bye ella :)
florella12 Resident: bye guys :)
Bleu Oleander waves
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bertrum
Bleu Oleander: hiya Bert
Bertrum Resident: hi everyone
Santoshima Resident: Hi Bertrum :)
Santoshima Resident: how is everyone?
Bleu Oleander: great, you?
Santoshima Resident: well thanks
Eliza Madrigal: thoughtful and fine
Eliza Madrigal: thanks
Bleu Oleander: what are your thoughts this morning?
Eliza Madrigal: I've been thinking about an appointment a few days ago, where I couldn't help noticing how much more randomness there is than purposefulness, in the course of, well in this case just a few hours... so many interruptions of purpose and yet the appointment was accomplished, which seemed almost miraculous
Eliza Madrigal: I may have brought this up already but for some reason it just stood out so strongly that I've been musing for days
Bleu Oleander: an appointment?
Eliza Madrigal: one of the things that was going on in the midst of this appt (simple hair appt) is that I was reading "Why is there something instead of nothing" :)
Eliza Madrigal: [title right?]
Bleu Oleander: by who?
Eliza Madrigal: Oh wait... no that isn't the title "Why Does the world exist" (?)
Bleu Oleander: oh yes
Bleu Oleander: Jim Holt
Eliza Madrigal: he couldn't title it the above... had already been used
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes
Bleu Oleander: wonderful book
Santoshima Resident: same theme, really
Eliza Madrigal nods
Bleu Oleander: quite a lot packed into it
Bertrum Resident: what was accomplished that impressed you?
Bleu Oleander: I love the first sentence ...
Eliza Madrigal: what was impressive was that anything was accomplished that was intended, in the face of all the interruptions and randomness that occurs when one is paying attention!
Bleu Oleander: "I vividly remember when the mystery of existence first swam into my ken.
Eliza Madrigal: mmmmm yes
Santoshima Resident: & when was that? (for the author)
Eliza Madrigal: he was very young... reading very lofty books.... around 13 Bleu?
Bleu Oleander: he says it was in the 1970's
Santoshima Resident: what is his recollection, not so much the date
Bleu Oleander: yes, high school I think
Santoshima Resident: or age
Santoshima Resident: his description of that experience
Bleu Oleander: began reading Sartre and Heidegger
Bertrum Resident: do you mean what was accomplished was the hair cutting? Am I being to literal? And that relates to the book?
Bleu Oleander: read the question, why is there something rather than nothing at all?
Santoshima Resident: not too literal Bertrrum, good question
Eliza Madrigal: :) well yes that is one string that was happening - hair cutting.
Eliza Madrigal: another was beginning a book, to finish/follow through with
Santoshima Resident: the tiel doesn't answer my question, Bleu
Santoshima Resident: title
Eliza Madrigal: a third was getting to know the new stylist a bit
Bleu Oleander: say your question again san?
Santoshima Resident: s'ok, eliza is speaking
Eliza Madrigal: all the while, each time she would walk across the room a million things would happen for both she and me and others in the room [done - answered Bert's question]
Eliza Madrigal listens :)
Bleu Oleander waves to Adams
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Adams :)
Adams Rubble: Hello everyone :)
Adams Rubble: nice sign
Bertrum Resident: So it's a combination of the random and the intentional that you were noticing.
Bertrum Resident: the complexity--as well.
Santoshima Resident: hello Adams :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes, while the author described the questions he was grappling with - unhinging questions, yes
Eliza Madrigal: was just astounded at how little predictability there is, when it can feel like there is so much
--BELL--
Santoshima Resident: can you relate that to an experience of "compassion" ?
Bleu Oleander: many random opportunities for compassion ... perhaps?
Eliza Madrigal: somehow the humility of it... of course this was just a snapshot in a life
Bleu Oleander: can't predict when compassion will show up or be summoned
Santoshima Resident: perhaps knowing the randomness
Santoshima Resident: and vulneability that we all live within
Alfred Kelberry: hi :)
Bleu Oleander waves to mp
Eliza Madrigal: I suppose I could have been impatient with all the interruptions if I was just there for 'my' haircut and thinking about 'my' time.... yes
Eliza Madrigal: yes, vulnerability, that's it
Alfred Kelberry: adams! rare guest :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Alfred :)
Adams Rubble: Hello Alfred :)
Santoshima Resident: hello alfred (aka mighty pirate) :)
Bleu Oleander: say more about vulnerability?
Santoshima Resident: open that up to everyone?
Santoshima Resident: here, i mean
Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: physical or emotional vulnerability?
Santoshima Resident: both, in all ways
Santoshima Resident: how tender are our lives
Bleu Oleander: yes
Santoshima Resident: and so short
Eliza Madrigal nods
Santoshima Resident: that everything changes and passes
Bleu Oleander: yet how full at the same time
Santoshima Resident: true for everyone and all creatures
Santoshima Resident: everything ithin the matrix of that
Santoshima Resident: w
Eliza Madrigal: mmm
Santoshima Resident: "randomness"
Bleu Oleander: complexity
Santoshima Resident: perhaps the knowing of that experience of "randomness" contains the ground for "compassion"
Santoshima Resident: imho
Santoshima Resident: over
Santoshima Resident: & out
Eliza Madrigal: lovely, ty San
Eliza Madrigal: a woman in a talk in SL last week said something like "there are 12 million miracles a second, all of them lost on your ego"
Bleu Oleander: what does that mean to you?
Bleu Oleander: hey mp :)
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Alfred Kelberry: did a quick visit to berty
Eliza Madrigal: it feels along the same lines.... that if wrapped up my agenda I may miss the awe and wonder
Santoshima Resident: “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” ― Albert Einstein
Eliza Madrigal: wonderful quote
Bertrum Resident: yes.
Bleu Oleander: yes, great quote
Adams Rubble: I don;t agree
Alfred Kelberry: this oatmeal of mine is a tasty miracle :)
Eliza Madrigal listens
Santoshima Resident: let's hear, Adams
Adams Rubble: I think there is a middle ground
Alfred Kelberry: ah, yes. balance.
Adams Rubble: that we go through life often unaware with periods of great awareness
Bleu Oleander: what do we mean by "miracle"?
Santoshima Resident: :) ok erase the quote
Adams Rubble: sorry
Adams Rubble: sorry
Adams Rubble: :)
Alfred Kelberry: i think albert implies a curiosity attitude towards the world
Santoshima Resident: but what youare saying is true, Adams
Adams Rubble: Nicde to remember we are surrounded by miracles
Eliza Madrigal: to relate it to the book, Jim Holt talked about the very tiny bit of matter that actually makes up our universe in comparison with 'nothing'
Adams Rubble: nice
Alfred Kelberry: who is jim holt?
--BELL--
Bleu Oleander: "why does the world exist?"
Bleu Oleander: great book mp
Bertrum Resident: I think the Einstein quote is spot on. And I think it ties together the feeling that Eliza was sharing.
Eliza Madrigal: http://www.charlierose.com/view/interview/12487 <--for later
Bleu Oleander: yes, we have no idea about what 96% of the universe is ...
Santoshima Resident: too tempting ....
Alfred Kelberry: eh, i'm so off the pab's recommended reading list :)
Adams Rubble: I need to run. Nice to see you all though briefly :)
Eliza Madrigal: I like Adams's point though.... part of what he was saying is that to him the universe seems mediocre and messy
Bleu Oleander: take care Adams
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Adams Rubble: bye for now :)
Eliza Madrigal: Nice to see you Adams
Santoshima Resident: so good to see you Adams ~ take care
Alfred Kelberry: adams, come more often please :)
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bertrum Resident: bye Adams
Alfred Kelberry: bleu, are you referring to dark matter?
Bertrum Resident: Adams' observation does not contradict the Einstein quote
Bleu Oleander: dark matter and dark energy
Eliza Madrigal nods
Eliza Madrigal: true
Eliza Madrigal: everything and nothing need each other :)
Bertrum Resident: how romantic:)
Eliza Madrigal: lol
Bleu Oleander: no evidence of nothing
Eliza Madrigal: well...:)
Eliza Madrigal: kids are waking....have to go, thanks for this fun morning
Bleu Oleander: take care Eliza
Bleu Oleander: ntsy
Alfred Kelberry: bleu, dark energy is what enables accelerated expansion, dark matter is that actual stuff that is missing in order for gravitational model to work
Bertrum Resident: bye Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: gtsy2 :D bye for now
Bleu Oleander: yes mp
Santoshima Resident: bye Eliza
Bleu Oleander: that's our current understanding
Alfred Kelberry: i remember how it started from 70%, now it's 96% :)
Alfred Kelberry: in any case, a lot of stuff unaccounted for
Bleu Oleander: 70% dark energy, 26% dark matter ... the rest is us and everything we see?
Bleu Oleander: we are finding so many more species of life on our own planet
Bleu Oleander: seems we don't know it yet either
Bleu Oleander waves to Korel
Alfred Kelberry: i'd like to see inconsistencies in our understanding of gravity
Korel Laloix: Heya... smiles
Alfred Kelberry: that would be an interesting twist
Alfred Kelberry: kori girl :)
Santoshima Resident: hey Korel
Bleu Oleander: gravity? who knows or has a good theory on that?
Santoshima Resident: fall down, go boom boom
Bleu Oleander: haha
Bleu Oleander: quantum gravity ... a real mental challenge to think about that
Korel Laloix: I was reading a rather strange article on Gravitaltion mathematics a cople of weekds back.
Alfred Kelberry: bleu, one guy in israel devised a variable gravity theory
Bleu Oleander: yes, many are trying
Santoshima Resident: Korel, what was it?
Alfred Kelberry: kori, why would you do that? :)
Korel Laloix: The guy was saying that it is mathematically impossible to determine if gravitation is an atractive force between object with mass... or a repulsion of objects with mass from vacuum.
Korel Laloix: It had statistical implications.
Alfred Kelberry: i hope the lhc findings will give us a clue
Alfred Kelberry: kori, what else did you read?
--BELL--
Bleu Oleander: thank you all for an interesting conversation, I must go ... take care all :)
Bertrum Resident: bye Bleu
Santoshima Resident: bye Bleu ~ lovely to see you
Bleu Oleander: bye bye :)
Korel Laloix: Was looking at some studies on toxin levels in homes buring biomass fuels vs fossile fuels.
Korel Laloix: Ciao
Alfred Kelberry: cool
Alfred Kelberry: ok, thank you for the company
Alfred Kelberry: i'm off
Korel Laloix: Well.. warm.. thats the point.. smiles
Korel Laloix: Ciao.
Santoshima Resident: bye Alfred take care
Santoshima Resident: i need to go as well ~ thanks for the conversation
Korel Laloix: Ciao.
Bertrum Resident: Bye everyone.
