Wol Euler was guardian for this session.

    Wol Euler: hello catrina
    Catrinamonblue Resident: hi
    Wol Euler: timezone-appropriate greetings :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: having a tough time sleeping tonight/this morning :(
    Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: always nice to see you here, wahtever the reason

    --BELL--

Wol Euler: is that a clove of garlic on your necklace?
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes a gift from Druth
    Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: so many vampires in SL since those books came out
Catrinamonblue Resident: I haven't personally encountered any but you can never be too safe :)
    Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: I bump into them fairly often, because I wear goth-y clothes when in human form
Wol Euler: the AVid store is one of their unofficial headquarters
Catrinamonblue Resident: been thinking hard on the nature of love and relationships in SL vs RL. How it seems in SL there is a safety net in the fact of being once removed from the relationship, are expectations in such a relationship different than if the same relationship were to take place in RL.
Wol Euler: I think there can be, yes
Wol Euler: it's clear that this is a place for experiment and play
Wol Euler: disclosure: I'm not actually a cat in RL :)
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
    Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: but it can go the other way too
    Wol Euler: hello san
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hello San
    Santoshima Resident: hello wol
    Santoshima Resident: hello cat
Wol Euler: my best friends in SL met here and moved together in RL, they married three years ago
Wol Euler: we had a great big RL party, gathered as many of their SL friends as could attend
    Catrinamonblue Resident: That's awesome
Wol Euler: the crossover was interesting :)
Wol Euler: it revealed a lot about how much filtering the brain does, choosing for you who to notice and who not
Wol Euler leans across and rubs San's stubbly head, and smiles
    Santoshima Resident: hey!
    Santoshima Resident: tickles
    Wol Euler: feels nice
    Santoshima Resident: yup
Wol Euler: you two are up late, or very early
Catrinamonblue Resident: it's 4 am here couldn't sleep anymore
Santoshima Resident: both, i'd guess ... was watching a movie
    Santoshima Resident: now wide awake
    Wol Euler nods
Santoshima Resident: thanks for the hot beverage, wol
Wol Euler: this is what I take when I'm up too early
    Santoshima Resident: excellent
    Catrinamonblue Resident: mmmm thanks
Wol Euler: calms me down and I go back to bed
Santoshima Resident: this is a very large mug ... a kind of chocolet trough
Wol Euler: everything is larger in SL
    Santoshima Resident: true
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)

    --BELL--

Wol Euler: I've discovered something very beautiful
Santoshima Resident: what is that wol?
Wol Euler: Gracie Kendall is an oil painter in RL, maker of swirly colourful abstracts
Wol Euler: like prettier and curvier Pollocks
Santoshima Resident: mhh, that name is familiar
Wol Euler: and she's made a 3d model of one of her paintings, or perhap all of them
Wol Euler: which you can fly around in
    Wol Euler: it's wonderful
Santoshima Resident: i think i have seen that
    Catrinamonblue Resident: sounds interesting
Wol Euler: if you land on the roof, there is a poseball which basically takes you on a slow random looping tour through the space
Wol Euler: I spent forty minutes there the other day :)
Santoshima Resident: is there in it the rabbit from Alice in wonderland, and some erotic Japanese woodblocks in the mix
Wol Euler: very beautiful, very calming
Wol Euler: there's a bit of everything
    Santoshima Resident: yeah
    Santoshima Resident: it is great
Wol Euler: cartoons and flowers and sprawls and streaks
    Santoshima Resident: right
Wol Euler: Ce n'est pas une peinture
    Santoshima Resident: hehe
Wol Euler: is the title, it's on a LEA sim
Santoshima Resident: yes, very nicely done, Gracie!
    Santoshima Resident: hi Xir!
    Wol Euler: hello xir
Santoshima Resident: did you skate from your studio?
Xirana Oximoxi: hello San, Wol, Cat :)
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Xir
    Wol Euler: hello kerry
Xirana Oximoxi: hehe...no...I've come with tp:))
    Xirana Oximoxi: more more quick
    Santoshima Resident: hello Kerry
    Wol Euler nods.
    Catrinamonblue Resident: hi
    KerryOki Resident: hello
    Xirana Oximoxi: hello Kerry
Wol Euler: oh, one week old :) welcome to SL
    KerryOki Resident: thank you
Wol Euler: have you been here before?
    KerryOki Resident: yes
KerryOki Resident: but no one here before
Wol Euler: okay, so you haven't attended a session here before
    KerryOki Resident: nopes
Wol Euler: I'll give you a notecard about the group, and a short intro in IM, so we don't disturb the others
    KerryOki Resident: we excorcsing demons?
Santoshima Resident: ok, may a ask a brief tech question?
Santoshima Resident: a poll of sort?
Santoshima Resident: not as exootic as an excorism
Santoshima Resident: who here uses a direct wire connection to use sl?
Santoshima Resident: and who uses wireless?
Santoshima Resident: curious minds want to know
Wol Euler: I'm on ethernet (wire)
    Santoshima Resident: ok
Catrinamonblue Resident: wireless to a modem
    Wol Euler: wireless is slower
Wol Euler: at least for me
Xirana Oximoxi: I am nearly sure I will not be able to answer:)) ..but Wol ...
Santoshima Resident: yes, i learned that today
Santoshima Resident: great lag with wireless
Santoshima Resident: ok, that's the quiz.
    Santoshima Resident: next
    Wol Euler smiles
Santoshima Resident: will fish out an ethernet cable in the morning
Wol Euler: as long as you have a reasonably permanent place for the computer, wired is better
Xirana Oximoxi: I use a wirelless connexion now....and have not noticed difference...

    --BELL--

Catrinamonblue Resident: I'm too far from my modem to be wired but I haven't encountered too many problems
Wol Euler: wow, hello hana, haven't seen you here in ages
    Hana Furlough: hello wul!
    Hana Furlough: hello others, too!
    Santoshima Resident: hallo Hana :)
    Wol Euler: how's the poetry?
    Xirana Oximoxi: hello Hana! :)
Hana Furlough: it goes! i'm actually on a research trip to one of the sites
    Wol Euler: nice
Wol Euler: what does that mean, actually?
Wol Euler: visiting a place that somebody wrote about?
Hana Furlough: yep, where poems were composed
    Hana Furlough: and written about
    Wol Euler: interesting
Wol Euler: I think most poems in English and German were written at home, on a desk, with a fire in the chimney and a dog sleeping behind the chair :)
Wol Euler: were japanese poems written "in the field" like a nature painter?
    Hana Furlough: haha sounds good
Hana Furlough: sometimes, often though they were written as though they were in the field
Hana Furlough: and often as part of a social gathering
    Wol Euler listens.
Hana Furlough: there were poetry contests, but also poems composed after dharma talks
Hana Furlough: under the cherry blossoms, too
    KerryOki Resident: yawns
Wol Euler hands Kerry a cup of coffee, and a guide to polite behaviour
Santoshima Resident: more pillows tto the south of the pavilion, Kerry
Hana Furlough: how's everyone doing tonight?
    KerryOki Resident: real Hana
    Wol Euler: mellow :)
    KerryOki Resident: well
    Santoshima Resident: well thanks, Hana
Wol Euler: having a day off between projects
Hana Furlough: nice! how will you spend it?
Wol Euler: reading, grocery shopping, a walk around town :)
    Hana Furlough: sounds relaxing
    Santoshima Resident: it does
Catrinamonblue Resident: what book are you reading?
Xirana Oximoxi: paitnign, reading... chatting... :)
Wol Euler: Régis Debray "Against Venice"
Wol Euler: a polemic of sorts, he prefers Naples to Venice and thinks we should too
Wol Euler: because Venice is too beautiful
Wol Euler: and people like it too much
    Santoshima Resident: that's a problem?
Hana Furlough: and that's why he argues against it?
Wol Euler: for philosophers, that is a problem, yes
Wol Euler: "if it's easy to like, then it is not really good"
    Hana Furlough: wow
    Wol Euler: yeah
Santoshima Resident: hmm, don't get that
Hana Furlough: what does he like better about naples?
Wol Euler: well, it's like when you were 12 years old and discovering music for yourself
Wol Euler: you found a band that nobody else had heard of, and you were pleased with yourself for discovering them
    Hana Furlough: : )
Wol Euler: and in a way it pleased you that only you and maybe one or two other people understood them
Wol Euler: because you'd had to struggle to understand them, and to like them
Wol Euler: but then the band became popular, and everybody started to like them
Wol Euler: and you felt a bit cheated, because these latecomers weren't struggling like you did
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Santoshima Resident: good analogy
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
    Hana Furlough: yes!
KerryOki Resident: wheres the stripper poles?
Wol Euler: in the stripper club, kerry
Wol Euler: use the Search feature
    Santoshima Resident: over yonder
Wol Euler: that is what botheres Debray, people can enjoy Venice without having to think about what's good about it
KerryOki Resident: santo can i ask you something?

    --BELL--

    Santoshima Resident: no
    KerryOki Resident: hana?
    KerryOki Resident: guess not
    KerryOki Resident: wol?
Wol Euler: [01:45] Play as Being 15 minute bell: Conversations here are recorded when ON AIR. Please see http://wiki.playasbeing.org/ [01:45] Play as Being 15 minute bell: Please observe 90 seconds of silence.
    Santoshima Resident: { shh }

    Wol Euler: now :)
    Santoshima Resident: :)
    KerryOki Resident: oops
    KerryOki Resident: soz
    Wol Euler: no worries
Hana Furlough: what did you want to ask us?
KerryOki Resident: anyways santo you all in to meditating
    KerryOki Resident: right?
Xirana Oximoxi: I am not :)
    Santoshima Resident: uh
    Wol Euler chuckles.
KerryOki Resident: well when u deep in trance
    KerryOki Resident: what u see?
    Santoshima Resident: d
    Santoshima Resident: uh
Santoshima Resident: well, i might not be the right person to ask that
Wol Euler: I don't actually do trances
Santoshima Resident: maybe someone welse could tackle it?
Xirana Oximoxi: whaen I get in trance I see you:)
Santoshima Resident: trances aren't my thing either
    KerryOki Resident: is upper level
Wol Euler: on retreats sometimes we do visualization exercises
KerryOki Resident: i talking deep deep down in the zone
    KerryOki Resident: beyond thought
Wol Euler: well, good :) what do you see?
    KerryOki Resident: beyond colours
    KerryOki Resident: beyond time
Santoshima Resident: i see a little cat, sleeping on a cushion nearby
    KerryOki Resident: ok makes sense
Santoshima Resident: and i must make hasste to do the same
    Santoshima Resident: g'night all
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Hana Furlough: night, san!
Wol Euler: godnight, san, sleep well
    Catrinamonblue Resident: night
    Santoshima Resident: cheers dears
    Xirana Oximoxi: bye San..good night:)
    Xirana Oximoxi: I also go...have a nice day/night all:)
Wol Euler: bye xir, enjoy the day
    Catrinamonblue Resident: bye Xir :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: ty, you too:)
    Hana Furlough: bye, xirana!
    Wol Euler: paint well
Wol Euler: hana, I've been meaning to ask whether being surrounded by Zen (and Shinto) has an effect
Wol Euler: my memory of Kyoto is that it is full of temples, at least one on every block, no matter how small
    Hana Furlough: ahh yes
Wol Euler: are you aware of that ambience?
    Hana Furlough: for sure
Wol Euler: (not sure what i am really asking :)
    Hana Furlough: it's so ingrained
Hana Furlough: i really appreciate that about kyoto
    Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: I noticed the casualness of worship at the Shinto temples
    Hana Furlough: for sure
    Wol Euler: the not-special, not-separated-off-from-life
Wol Euler: I saw people with bags of groceries would turn aside and walk into a temple, clap and ring the bell, then pick up their bags and walk on
Hana Furlough: interestingly, a lot of japanese people will say they're not religious but do indeed go to shrines and temples and worship there if they need something or are in the neighborhood
    Hana Furlough: yes!
Wol Euler: just while on their way home
Hana Furlough: one of my friends was in nara very early in the morning and she said she say people stop off at the temple on their way to work
KerryOki Resident: Zen Buddhism never did it for me
Hana Furlough: can i ask what it didn't do?
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Wol Euler: brb
KerryOki Resident: never scratched my itch
Hana Furlough: well, it's just one of many forms, many ways, buddhist or otherwise
Hana Furlough: maybe that's why it didn't resonate with you?
KerryOki Resident: i respect everyones path
KerryOki Resident: but just take a look at japan
KerryOki Resident: kiddie porn capital of the world!
    KerryOki Resident: filth everywhere
    Wol Euler: back
Wol Euler: and wondering where that came from
    Hana Furlough: um ok
Catrinamonblue Resident: that's a rather broad generalization that doesn't apply to everyone there.
KerryOki Resident: buying stained panties from vendo machines

    --BELL--

Wol Euler: one could make pretty good arguments against christianity from the behavour of many americans, kerry
Wol Euler: jeffrey dahlmer, for example
Hana Furlough: not to change the subject, but would you mind sharing with us what does scratch your itch, kerry?
Wol Euler: yes, that might be a more fruitful avenue
    Wol Euler listens.
    KerryOki Resident: solemn suffering
Hana Furlough: can you say more about that?
    Wol Euler listens for details.
    Catrinamonblue Resident: listens
KerryOki Resident: let me talk about fools
KerryOki Resident: you know a fool
KerryOki Resident: maybe walk up to you on the street
KerryOki Resident: all smelly and stuttering
KerryOki Resident: Mr spare a dollar?
    KerryOki Resident: he asks
    KerryOki Resident: what you do?
Wol Euler: I don't know, kerry, what do you do?
KerryOki Resident: normally i would kick him up the ass!
KerryOki Resident: you silly fool go away!
KerryOki Resident: but now i know different
KerryOki Resident: that fool is smarter then me and you put together
    Wol Euler raises an eyebrow.
Hana Furlough: can you say why that is?
KerryOki Resident: think about it everyone
KerryOki Resident: this fool walks around all day and night
KerryOki Resident: people look at him
KerryOki Resident: give him bad thoughts
KerryOki Resident: make fun of him
KerryOki Resident: is he not growing his xinxing?
    Wol Euler: what is "xinxing"?
    KerryOki Resident: mind nature
KerryOki Resident: he is becoming immune
Hana Furlough: oh i thought you were referencing a district in taiwan
Hana Furlough: i don't think most destitute people are engaging in spiritual practice
    Catrinamonblue Resident: http://www.falundafa.org/book/eng/flg_3.htm
Catrinamonblue Resident: is this what you are talking about?
    KerryOki Resident: yes
Wol Euler: sounds pretty buddhist to me :)
Wol Euler: or were you objecting to the Zen variety only?
KerryOki Resident: buddhist with an edge
KerryOki Resident: u a practioner Catrina?
Catrinamonblue Resident: no just good with google:)
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Hana Furlough: : )
KerryOki Resident: what is your spiritual path?
Wol Euler reads back and nods to Hana.
Wol Euler: I don't think the homeless guy who lives behind the carwash chose that as a spiritual path
Wol Euler: there may well be some who do, granted, but I suspect that it is a minority
Catrinamonblue Resident: no path really just looking at everything around me and appreciating the beauty of creation :)
    Hana Furlough: : )
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
    KerryOki Resident: ofcourse he did
    Wol Euler raises an eyebrow.
Wol Euler: and you know this ... how?
KerryOki Resident: we all agree on reincarnation, right?
    Wol Euler: no
    Wol Euler: but continue
    Wol Euler listens.

    --BELL--

KerryOki Resident: so his many lives he did bad things
    KerryOki Resident: kept falling lower
KerryOki Resident: as a form of mercy towards him
KerryOki Resident: he gets born as a fool
KerryOki Resident: is that not a gift?
Hana Furlough: sorry, but i think that explanation is a little too simplistic
    Wol Euler agrees
Wol Euler: and a bit too self-interested
    Catrinamonblue Resident: nods
KerryOki Resident: whats the golden rule in Christianity?
Wol Euler: "god / fate / karma put him there, so I am free to look away and not help him"
    KerryOki Resident: too simplistic
KerryOki Resident: yes karma let him suffer
    KerryOki Resident: but
Wol Euler: and lets you off the hook
KerryOki Resident: thats where u wrong
    Wol Euler listens.
KerryOki Resident: because the fool will step on your path in a clumsy way
KerryOki Resident: so in your mind you might curse him a little
KerryOki Resident: so aren't you transfering his bad karma to you?
KerryOki Resident: lil at a time
Catrinamonblue Resident: night/ morning all, thanks for the chat :) going to go back to bed :)
    Hana Furlough: good night!
Wol Euler: bye catrina, sleep well
Hana Furlough: there's a famous monk who once said, causes and conditions of things are very hard to understand
Hana Furlough: that seems right to me
KerryOki Resident: now imagine this fool on the streets of a busy city street
KerryOki Resident: he interacts with thousands of souls every day
KerryOki Resident: is he not getting cleaned
    KerryOki Resident: ?
Wol Euler: I don't know. Is he?
Wol Euler: not by meeting people who kick him up the ass, I would guess
Hana Furlough: isn't this just making bad karma for everyone, if you want to look at it that way?
KerryOki Resident: but why look at it that way?
Wol Euler: okay, let's ask the question directly. What do you do, Kerry, you personally, to improve his karma and yours?
KerryOki Resident: i give him his fun
KerryOki Resident: he might want to waste my time
KerryOki Resident: he might want to make me laugh
KerryOki Resident: he might want a dollar of me
    KerryOki Resident: i give it
KerryOki Resident: then i walk away
KerryOki Resident: he got something matearially off me
    Wol Euler: very good.
KerryOki Resident: but nothing that matters
    KerryOki Resident: i instead gained
KerryOki Resident: anyways now I go get drunk.
    Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: take care of your karma, kerry
    Hana Furlough: later, kerry!
Wol Euler: well, that was unusual
    Hana Furlough: um yeah
Wol Euler: I wonder what he was trying to sell ...
Wol Euler: I suspect we will find out next time
Hana Furlough: yeah, i was wondering that too
Hana Furlough: we shall have to stay tuned
    Wol Euler: yeah
Hana Furlough: well, i should let you start your day
Hana Furlough: enjoy your down time
Hana Furlough: it was great chatting!
    Wol Euler: likewise
Wol Euler: lovely to see you again
Wol Euler: reminds me of Kyoto :)
    Hana Furlough: haha me too!
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Hana Furlough: ttys!
    Wol Euler: bye for now
