    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Bruce
    Wol Euler: hello invisibles
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Wol
Bruce Mowbray: Hello, one and all.
Tara Lacrima: hi Wol (this is sharon (sophiasharon))
    Qt Core: hi bruce
Santoshima Resident: helllo Bruce and Wol
    Wol Euler: ah, hello :)
Tara Lacrima: Hi Bruce, didn't see you arrive
Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Sharon! Good to see you again!
Tara Lacrima: good to see you too :))

Bruce Mowbray: Did you folks hear that Dave Brubeck died today?
    Wol Euler: oh no
    Wol Euler: I hadn't heard.
    Bruce Mowbray: Yes.
    Qt Core: yes
Bruce Mowbray: He was an icon of my youth.
    Santoshima Resident: no hadn't
    Wol Euler nods.
    Santoshima Resident: yes
    Wol Euler sighs.
Bruce Mowbray: "Take Five" Blue Rondo a la Turk"
    Bruce Mowbray also sighs.
Bruce Mowbray: I was fortunate enough to see his quartet perform live in 1959.
    Wol Euler: wow :)
Wol Euler was one year old.
Bruce Mowbray: a memory that will last through my entire life.
Santoshima Resident: yeah, same age for me
    Wol Euler: brb
Bruce Mowbray: It was at Purdue University in Indiana, USA ...
    Bruce Mowbray: August 1959 ...
    Bruce Mowbray: amazing.

    — BELL —

Bruce Mowbray: I also saw Odetta perform there ...
    Santoshima Resident: great!
Bruce Mowbray: Here is an excellent link — includes both "Take Five" and "Rondo a la Turk"

    Bruce Mowbray: http://todayentertainment.today.com/...ead-at-91?lite

Bruce Mowbray: I can't tell you the rising of energy in me that comes when I listen to this stuff.
    Tara Lacrima: :)
Santoshima Resident: oh THAT's Take Five ... love that piece
Bruce Mowbray: and this is an amazing performance of it, san.
    Bruce Mowbray: simply amazing.
    Santoshima Resident: yes, agreed

Bruce Mowbray: Tomorrow would have been Brubeck's 92nd birthday.
    Wol Euler nods.
    Catrinamonblue Resident: lovely music
    Wol Euler listens and smiles

Bruce Mowbray: Hmmmm. The "reason" Brubeck was at that university was that there was a conference of Methodist youth there ...
Bruce Mowbray: and he was getting into composing jazz worship services.
Bruce Mowbray: and he performed one for us there.
Bruce Mowbray: I was utterly astounded ...
    Santoshima Resident: :)
Bruce Mowbray: and went back to my small town in Iowa, with the "message" about jazz in worship!
    Bruce Mowbray: HA HA HA!
    Tara Lacrima: :D
Bruce Mowbray: needless to say .......
    Bruce Mowbray: [enough]
    Wol Euler smiles.

Wol Euler: do you know the Church of Coltrane in San Francisco?
Tara Lacrima is thinks it is never enough from you :)

Bruce Mowbray: please say more, Wol.
Santoshima Resident: from the webpage: "I think the majority of musicians are interested in truth, you know—they’ve got to be because a musical thing is a truth. If you play and make a statement, a musical statement, and it’s a valid statement, that’s a truth right there in itself, you know. If you play something phony you know that’s phony. All musicians are striving to get as near perfection as they can get. That’s truth there, you know. So in order to play those kind of things, to play truth, you’ve got to live with as much truth as you possibly can, you know. `St. John Coltrane"

    Santoshima Resident: http://www.coltranechurch.org/

    Bruce Mowbray: ahhhh! Thank you!
Wol Euler: John Coltrane, he of "A love supreme"
Wol Euler: (I've never been there, I only heard of it because the SF retreatists visited it two years ago)
Bruce Mowbray ponders "clarity" and the authenticity of valid music ... and the Art as Being project.
    Wol Euler ponders "invalid music"
Bruce Mowbray: " All musicians are striving to get as near perfection as they can get. That’s truth there, you know. So in order to play those kind of things, to play truth, you’ve got to live with as much truth as you possibly can, you know."
Bruce Mowbray: I feel that Brubeck actually reached that.
Bruce Mowbray: and that he shared it with us.

    — BELL —

    Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Kori.
    Korel Laloix: Osiyo
    Santoshima Resident: hi Korel :)
    Catrinamonblue Resident: HI Korel
    Tara Lacrima: Hi Korel
    Qt Core: Hi Korel
    Wol Euler: hello korel
Korel Laloix: What did I miss?

Bruce Mowbray: I am really surprised by the upsurge of emotion about Brubeck's death — in my typist.
Wol Euler: we're all having feels about the death of Dave Brubeck
    Korel Laloix: Brubeck?
Bruce Mowbray: Dave Brubeck — a jazz pianist.
    Korel Laloix: Will look up.
Bruce Mowbray: Died today, one day short of his 92nd birthday, Kori ...
Bruce Mowbray: (I have send Kori a link.)
    Bruce Mowbray: sent*
    Korel Laloix: Thanks you.
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-) yw!

    Korel Laloix: brb

Bruce Mowbray: I saw him perform when I was still in high school.
Wol Euler: you might not know the name, but you will know the songs :) they are a part of the background noise of our culture
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, Wol, they are iconic "noises." ;-)))))
Wol Euler: iconic is a good word, es
    Wol Euler: *yes

Qt Core: i have to go, bye all
Wol Euler: bye qc, take care
    Tara Lacrima: bye Qt :)
Santoshima Resident: oh, bye QT ~ GTSY ~ take care
    Catrinamonblue Resident: Bye Qt

Korel Laloix: Not sure in my culture though ... will look him up when I get home.
Bruce Mowbray ponders, also, the iconic nature of Buddy Holly's music -- Buddy Holly and the Crickets performed in my home town in Iowa only two days before the plane crashed - also 1959.
Korel Laloix: I at least know that name.
Bruce Mowbray: at the Laramar Ballroom, Fort Dodge, Iowa ... December 1959 ... Some of my friends went to see him, but I was not allowed to, because rock and roll was forbidden.
    Wol Euler: o.O
    Santoshima Resident: oh
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-0000
    Bruce Mowbray: "The early days!"
    Korel Laloix: 1959 ... hmm ... I was –27
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
    Santoshima Resident: young, kori
    Bruce Mowbray: I was 17.
    Wol Euler: hehehehhe
    Tara Lacrima: hehe Korel

Santoshima Resident: what musis was allowed, bruce?
Korel Laloix: I have seen some fairly horrific concerts ..... but none that were really really memorable in a good way.
Bruce Mowbray: Oh, Bach, Mozart, and that sort of thing — and of course, Lawence WelK and the lovely champagne ladies.
    Bruce Mowbray: Lawrence Welk*
Korel Laloix is looking up lawrence welk
Bruce Mowbray: who were nice, I guess ... and are still on the TV over here.
    Santoshima Resident: champagne ladies?
Santoshima Resident: they hung around with LW?
Santoshima Resident: or they had their own gig?
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, the (uh) lovely (uh) chanpagne (uh) ladies (uh) --- to quote Lawrence...
    Santoshima Resident: oh right :)

    — BELL —

    Bruce Mowbray: You remember!
Korel Laloix: About the only antique music I like is Pink FLoyd.
    Wol Euler laughs.
    Wol Euler: oh dear
    Tara Lacrima: antique?
Bruce Mowbray: Pink Floyd is already antique????
Wol Euler: I mean, yes, I love PF, I grew up listening to that :)
    Korel Laloix: Well, 7os right?
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
    Tara Lacrima: me too
    Wol Euler: "antique"
Korel Laloix: So that is 30 years old.
    Santoshima Resident: sorta
Bruce Mowbray: Actually, Pink Floyd is now called Brit Floyd....
    Korel Laloix: Sorry ...
    Wol Euler nods.
    Tara Lacrima: laughs
Korel Laloix retracts the antique word
    Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: actually you are right, though, they are getting old
    Tara Lacrima: :D
Bruce Mowbray: If any of you saw the movie "Zambriski Point," Pink Floyd played the background music for that ... Back in 1970.

Wol Euler: I still listen to a lot of music from that time
Bruce Mowbray: (so, yes, I suppose they could be considered an antique.)
Wol Euler: Roxy Music's "For your pleasure" is 40 this year.
Wol Euler: Brian Eno's first albums are coming up on 40 too
Tara Lacrima: I guess cars that old are considered classic, but I don't think about that much
Tara Lacrima: I prefer classic :)
Korel Laloix looks up some more ...

    Wol Euler: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in-lPkcIC8M

    Bruce Mowbray: http://dvd.netflix.com/Movie/Zabrisk...l&trkid=222336

Korel Laloix: Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno
Bruce Mowbray regards himself as an antique's antique.
Korel Laloix: A fun name at least.
Korel Laloix: Great name for a cat.
    Santoshima Resident: :)
Tara Lacrima: heh. yelling that around at dinner time
Santoshima Resident: most topics roll back to cats eventually
    Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Korel Laloix: Well, they are the center of the universe.
Korel Laloix: Or at least think so'
    Wol Euler smiles.

Korel Laloix: Will look up the youtube stuff when I get home.
    Korel Laloix: Thanks though.
Korel Laloix: Are we clear enough on clarity to be done with it?

Bruce Mowbray: When I was in undergraduate school - 1963 - I had a cat named Cervetus. I believed that Cervetus THOUGHT the cosmos into existence ... and kept it in existence ... but one day I returned from the college and found that he'd been run over. And the universe still was there ... Or was it?

Catrinamonblue Resident: gtg thanks for all the music, loved it :)
    Korel Laloix: Ciao
Tara Lacrima: am I dreaming you, or you dreaming me
    Bruce Mowbray: me too, Cat.
    Korel Laloix: Or both.
    Tara Lacrima: bye Korel
    Santoshima Resident: bye Cat,
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
    Wol Euler: bye cat
    Tara Lacrima: bye catrina

Santoshima Resident: universe of Cervetus ... lovely
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-) yes.
Korel Laloix: A good band name.
Bruce Mowbray: The original Cervetus was burned at the stake in Geneva, actually.
Bruce Mowbray: (by Calvin, I believe....)
Bruce Mowbray: [look that up in your Funk and Wagnals....]
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Tara Lacrima: heh
Tara Lacrima: now that is classic too
Bruce Mowbray: That was for those of you who still remember LAUGH IN....
Wol Euler: I do, but not that bit.
Santoshima Resident: vaguely ... mostly goldie hawn
    Santoshima Resident: and uh
    Santoshima Resident: the phone lady

    Korel Laloix: http://www.banneroftruth.org/pages/a...detail.php?457

Korel Laloix looks up Laugh IN

    — BELL —

    Wol Euler laughs and snorts
    Santoshima Resident: :))
    Wol Euler: Mr. Veeedle.
    Santoshima Resident: right

Bruce Mowbray: ahhh! It's Servetus — I misspelled his name.
    Bruce Mowbray: (poor cat!)
Bruce Mowbray: and on June 17th, 1552, the sentence of death, namely, "to be burned alive, at a slow fire, till his body he reduced to a cinder, " was passed upon him by the Inquisition.
Korel Laloix: Amazing how effed up people are.
Bruce Mowbray: But he actually escaped from prison ... and they only burned an effigy, apparently.
    Santoshima Resident: good
    Wol Euler nods.
Bruce Mowbray: Whew! WHAT a relief!
Tara Lacrima: huh, an effigy, how weird
Bruce Mowbray: and to think that all these years I thought my cat had been named after a martyr of the faith.

Bruce Mowbray: alas.... Tis time for me to attend to gustatory matter. . . May all be CLOEAR [ editor note: he meant "Clear", see below ] and happy [ editor note: likely he meant ":)" ]     !
Wol Euler: bye bruce, bon appetit
    Tara Lacrima: bye Bruce :)
Santoshima Resident: :) bye Bruce ~ charmed to see you
    Bruce Mowbray: Thank you all!
Tara Lacrima: I need to go as well, nice to see you aLL
    Korel Laloix: Ciao
    Santoshima Resident: bye Tara !
    Santoshima Resident: bruce hello!
Wol Euler: bye tara, nice to meet you
Santoshima Resident: Tara is Sharan Sophia, Wol

Bruce Mowbray: ooops. I'm just neurotic enough to return to correct that typo ... should have typed: CLEAR ...
Bruce Mowbray: bye for now, then.
    Wol Euler: I know :)
Wol Euler: but the alt is new to me :)
    Santoshima Resident: oh
Korel Laloix: That is an OK neurosies to have.
    Santoshima Resident: will correct, bruce
    Korel Laloix: Good editing.
Santoshima Resident: i mostly focus on adjusting ellipses
Korel Laloix: cofusing sounds like fun though
    Korel Laloix smiles
Wol Euler thinks of cosplay :)
    Korel Laloix: cosplay?
    Santoshima Resident: "costume play"
Wol Euler: like roleplay games in costume in RL
Wol Euler: people spend huge amounts of time and effort to make costumes
Wol Euler: typically of anime or sci-fi or cartoon or gaming characters
Santoshima Resident: yeah, not dissimilar to what we all do — wear costumes —
    Wol Euler smiles.
Korel Laloix: Erin has this complete startreck outfit she wears for haloween.
    Wol Euler grins.
Korel Laloix: Just can't get into that stuff.

Santoshima Resident: bye for now > skate > inventory filing > then one last class ~ good to see you both
Wol Euler: bye san, take care

    Korel Laloix: ciao
Korel Laloix: We scared them all off.
    Wol Euler grins.
Korel Laloix: Oh well.. back to that RL thing.
    Korel Laloix: Take care... smiles
Wol Euler: bye korel, take care
    Korel Laloix: cia bella
    Wol Euler waves.
