    [12:59] Korel Laloix: Heya
    [13:00] Wol Euler: osiya
    [13:00] Korel Laloix smiles
    [13:00] Wol Euler grins.
[13:00] Wol Euler: having a nice sunday?
[13:01] Korel Laloix: Been a hectic week, so getting back on top of the homework and fighting a migrain I think.
[13:01] Korel Laloix: Howa bout you?
[13:01] Wol Euler: yay and boo
[13:01] Korel Laloix: Think I am catching it early.
[13:01] Korel Laloix: So things shoudl be good.
[13:02] Korel Laloix: Just need to give my brain a rest for a while as well.
[13:02] Korel Laloix: What you been up to?
[13:03] Wol Euler: yesterday off, today at work again

[13:03] Wol Euler: eight days to go, and if we avoid being idiots, it might work out
[13:03] Korel Laloix: If?.. smiles I have confidence in you.
[13:03] Korel Laloix: It if doe work out..... what will that mean for you?
[13:05] Wol Euler: well, we will hand *something* in on the 18th no matter what happens
[13:05] Wol Euler: "working out" in this case means that I might avoid 17 hour days.
[13:05] Wol Euler: which I#d really like to do if possible
[13:05] Korel Laloix: That would be a nice result... smiles
    [13:05] Wol Euler grins.
    [13:05] Wol Euler: yeah
[13:06] Korel Laloix: I am sooo looking foroward to the holidays... I do need a break.

    [13:06] Wol Euler: hello bruce
[13:06] Wol Euler: back in a sec, there's a draft coming in somewhere
    [13:07] Korel Laloix: ok
    [13:09] Korel Laloix: Heya
[13:10] Korel Laloix: That was a fun dance.
[13:10] Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Kori and Wol.
    [13:10] Wol Euler: back
[13:11] Bruce Mowbray: I am experiencing more lag today than I have for weeks. . .
[13:11] Wol Euler: glad it's not just me :)
[13:11] Korel Laloix: No lag at all for me... go figure.
[13:11] Korel Laloix: It has been bad recently thought.
    [13:11] Wol Euler: heh

[13:12] Bruce Mowbray wonders how many minutes it would take for a snowball to fly from here to Wol.
[13:12] Korel Laloix: Give it a try.
[13:12] Korel Laloix: All this snow around is depressing.
[13:12] Korel Laloix: That is fun.
    [13:12] Wol Euler: ow
[13:13] Bruce Mowbray: Hmmm. Not as slow as I thought.
[13:13] Bruce Mowbray: Can't throw snowballs without snow, Kori.
    [13:14] Korel Laloix: Sounds reasonable.
[13:14] Korel Laloix: But if we have to outlaw snow, so be it.
[13:14] Korel Laloix: Come on global warming.
[13:15] Bruce Mowbray: Cool, Wol! That was the first time I've seen someone else throwing a snowball.... (especially during a drop. . . or is that my lag, again?)
[13:16] Korel Laloix: YOu can sit on teh snowballs for a second.

[13:17] Wol Euler: the thing about them is that they go forever in a straight line, until they hit somebody or try to enter a parcel where you don't have rezzing rights :)
[13:17] Bruce Mowbray: I probably could sit on them -- they stop at several points in space before hitting the target.
[13:18] Korel Laloix: Silly things about SL.

[13:18] Wol Euler: [13:15] Second Life: Can't move object 'Snowball' to { 97.2121, 0.275491, 176.182 } in region Hangeul because your objects are not allowed on this parcel.

[13:18] Bruce Mowbray: Hmmm, that gives me an idea, Wol.
[13:18] Korel Laloix: That scares me for sure.
[13:19] Bruce Mowbray: Whoa! I just thre three of them and hit the museum of sacred art!
[13:19] Bruce Mowbray wonders what would happen if I fired off some snowballs at the train....
[13:20] Korel Laloix: Can you shoot one straight up?
[13:20] Bruce Mowbray: I will try that, Kori.
[13:20] Korel Laloix: Fun to find things out.
[13:21] Wol Euler: yes, they go forever (until they run out of sky at around 5000 metres)
[13:21] Bruce Mowbray: I just did that, Wol. Really cool!
[13:21] Bruce Mowbray: I aimed them over the Molecule Theater . . . whoooosh!
[13:22] Korel Laloix: So how many will have to throw to get all this snow out of the pagota?.... smiles
    [13:23] Wol Euler: heheheh
[13:23] Korel Laloix: At least it is not snwoing here.
    [13:24] Wol Euler: O.O
    [13:24] Wol Euler: what .... ?
    [13:24] Bruce Mowbray: Oh yeah?!
[13:24] Korel Laloix: That is just sooooooo not cool.
[13:25] Korel Laloix: Interesting choice of decoration.
[13:26] Korel Laloix: Strange feeling, have a final tomororw, and feel like I should be studying.
[13:26] Bruce Mowbray: Now you kinow what it feels like to be in Ohio in the wintertime.
    [13:26] Bruce Mowbray: know*
[13:26] Korel Laloix: But not sure I can cram anything else in my brain.
[13:26] Wol Euler: but you aren't studying :)
[13:26] Wol Euler: in that case, it may well be a bad idea to try
[13:27] Korel Laloix: I just have to get a 55 percent on the test to keep my A.
[13:27] Wol Euler: do you think you understand the subject?
[13:27] Korel Laloix: Very much so..
[13:27] Wol Euler: well, then let it go :)
    [13:27] Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
[13:27] Korel Laloix: That is just what I decided.
[13:27] Korel Laloix: The one on Thursday is about the same low stress.

[13:27] Wol Euler: if you have an A so far, and think you understand, then you will get your 55% by writing your name atop the page :)
    [13:27] Korel Laloix: Probably right.
[13:28] Wol Euler: get lots of sleep will do you more good IMHO
    [13:28] Korel Laloix: I agree.
[13:28] Bruce Mowbray: I suggest more tequilla.
[13:29] Korel Laloix: More of a wino or spiked hot chocolate mood though.
[13:29] Bruce Mowbray: Good of you to claim this session for Aph, Wol.
    [13:29] Wol Euler smiles modestly.
    [13:31] Bruce Mowbray: :)
    [13:32] Wol Euler: helllo zon
    [13:32] Zon Kwan: heya
    [13:32] Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Zon.
    [13:33] Zon Kwan: heyyyyy
    [13:33] Zon Kwan: throws back
    [13:34] Korel Laloix: brb
    [13:34] Wol Euler: ok
[13:36] Bruce Mowbray: Did I scare Zon away?
[13:36] Bruce Mowbray: and Kori, too?
    [13:37] Wol Euler: heheh
[13:37] Wol Euler: too much snow
    [13:37] Bruce Mowbray: Yeah.
[13:37] Bruce Mowbray: and not enough tequilla.

[13:39] Bruce Mowbray: "Preparation...." I guess Kori and Zon weren't prepared for this much snow.
[13:39] Bruce Mowbray: Didn't pack their snowshoes and snow plows.
[13:39] Wol Euler: they've gone off to prepare for tomorrow
    [13:40] Bruce Mowbray: Ahhhh!
[13:40] Wol Euler: which is actually an odd thing to do, if you think about it
[13:40] Bruce Mowbray: yeah, I've wasted a whole lot of my life preparing for "tomorrow..."
[13:40] Bruce Mowbray: but it never gets here.
[13:40] Wol Euler: based on ... what exactly? yesterday?
[13:41] Wol Euler: "it rained yesterady so I'll take an umbrella"
[13:41] Bruce Mowbray: tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in its petty pace from day to day....
[13:41] Wol Euler: unil the last sy.llable of recorded time
    [13:41] Wol Euler smiles.
    [13:41] Bruce Mowbray: ;-)

[13:41] Bruce Mowbray: I watched The Tempest last night.
    [13:42] Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Zen!
    [13:42] Wol Euler: hello zen
[13:42] Zen Arado: Hi Wol, Bruce
[13:42] Wol Euler: we're doing shakespeare and snowballs )
    [13:42] Wol Euler: :)
[13:42] Zen Arado: just watching a program about Aid
[13:42] Bruce Mowbray: please say more, Zen.
    [13:43] Bruce Mowbray: about AIDS?
[13:43] Zen Arado: history of aid to Biafra, Cambodia etc
[13:43] Bruce Mowbray: kk.. about aid.
[13:43] Zen Arado: now up to Geldof :)
    [13:43] Wol Euler smiles.
[13:43] Wol Euler: Sir Bob of that ilk.
[13:44] Zen Arado: lots of exagerration about starvation in Cambodia
[13:44] Zen Arado: wonder about it all
[13:45] Zen Arado: if it really helps in the long run
    [13:46] Zen Arado: http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/c...049198.article

[13:46] Wol Euler: I think it can help greatly if done properly
[13:46] Wol Euler: but it can also be a total waste of time and money
[13:47] Wol Euler: many building projects fail because there's no provision for maintenance, for example
    [13:47] Zen Arado: http://www.theartsdesk.com/tv/give-me-money-bbc-four

[13:47] Wol Euler: there have been a few TED talks recently about aid failures
    [13:47] Zen Arado: oh?
[13:48] Bruce Mowbray: yes, in Haiti, for example.

[13:48] Wol Euler: governments like to spend a few hundred million on a single big project (which looks good, but then fails because of a lack of screwdrivers)

[13:48] Wol Euler: whereas what was needed was maybe 100 doses of 200 dollars localy distributed

[13:48] Zen Arado: lots of money gets diverted for guns
    [13:48] Wol Euler: that too
[13:49] Zen Arado: or into corrupt politicians pockets
[13:49] Bruce Mowbray: How would you feel about giving money directly to someone not involved with the government, then? Like Sean Penn in Haiti?
[13:50] Bruce Mowbray: He has lived there ever since the earthquake... and has been rebuilding...
    [13:50] Zen Arado: not sure
[13:50] Zen Arado: aid creates dependency
[13:50] Wol Euler: again, depends how it's done
[13:50] Zen Arado: always a problem with any kind of help

[13:50] Wol Euler: you might consider the Grameen Bank (sp?) model
    [13:51] Wol Euler: microloans
[13:51] Wol Euler: local problems, local solutions, local workforce

[13:51] Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I have made several of those.... and it appears to be working out very well.
[13:52] Zen Arado: most don't actually know what really goes on
[13:52] Zen Arado: only what we are told
[13:52] Wol Euler: actually, I remember an interview with Sir Bob (before he was knighted), as Live Aid was starting to ramp up
[13:52] Wol Euler: he talked about how people would walk up to him in the street in London and push ten pound notes into his hand
    [13:52] Zen Arado: mmm
[13:52] Wol Euler: and he said that to be the object of that kind of trust was actually frightening

[13:52] Bruce Mowbray: I also like the concept of giving to heifer.com for Cristmas (or other) gifts.... You can give chickens, bee hives, cows, etc...
[13:53] Zen Arado: better than money I guess

[13:53] Zen Arado: the world is a complicated place
    [13:53] Wol Euler nods.
[13:53] Bruce Mowbray: sorry -- actually that should have been heifer.org
    [13:54] Zen Arado: np
    [13:54] Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
[13:54] Bruce Mowbray: You've given one heifer. . . . you given them all?
[13:54] Zen Arado: wasn't thinking of donating:)
    [13:54] Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
[13:55] Bruce Mowbray: If you re-consider, may I suggest the Bruce-in-Need Fund?
    [13:55] Zen Arado: heh
[13:55] Zen Arado: could do worse
    [13:55] Wol Euler grins.
[13:55] Zen Arado: I know you would be wise with money

[13:56] Bruce Mowbray: (and I hope everyone understand that was suppossed to be a JOKE!!! -- Do NOT send money to Bruce! He'll spend it all on snow.)
[13:56] Zen Arado: he I know Bruce
    [13:56] Zen Arado: :)
[13:57] Zen Arado: perhaps best not to meddle in other countries
[13:57] Zen Arado: it's like poking a stick into a complicated mechanism
[13:58] Zen Arado: and saying.well we only trying to help'
[13:58] Wol Euler: if it is clearly meddling, then one should not meddle
    [13:58] Wol Euler: IMHO
[13:58] Wol Euler: but some problems should be addressed
[13:58] Zen Arado: that's the problem
    [13:58] Wol Euler smiles.
[13:59] Wol Euler: so perhaps one encourages local action by local actors
[13:59] Wol Euler: rather than imposing a post-colonialist "we know better" vision

[13:59] Bruce Mowbray: I need to shove off now. . . I have a church service to attend at the top of the hour.
[13:59] Wol Euler: oh, time for Bertram
[13:59] Zen Arado: sometimes think so many of Africa's problems were caused by the British
[13:59] Wol Euler: bye bruce, take care
[14:00] Bruce Mowbray: Yes, Bert's meditation is also about to happen.
