Tara Lacrima: working a lot. Selling my house. Moving. My sister had a baby.

Tara Lacrima: lots of things and absolutely nothing

Tara Lacrima: started yoga, stopped yoga, started taking painting classes, stopped because im terrible at it :D

Aphrodite Macbain: in SL I have set up house in a ndew 18th century sim off the coast of Naples and run a cafe there!!

Aphrodite Macbain: In RL I've been learning Italian and how to do botanical illustrations

Aphrodite Macbain: coffee get togethers are at 11AM slt saturdays
Aphrodite Macbain: we all dress up in 18th c clothing and talk about the events of the day (or century)

Calvino Rabeni: they started out very subtly
Calvino Rabeni: so it was jazz, with just a tiny hint of the melodies in the background

Calvino Rabeni: and hours later, it had slowly grown
Calvino Rabeni: sort of like dawn

Calvino Rabeni: the lights turning on so gradually, you don't sense an immediate change
Calvino Rabeni: the familiar "seasonal" music about snow, fires, wintery themes
stevenaia Michinaga: like the frog in the water as the temperature rises
Paradise Tennant: what do the holidays mean to you two ?
stevenaia Michinaga: a very sad comedy
Calvino Rabeni: good question
Calvino Rabeni: to me it means, a recognition of the sociality of indoor life when the climate is cold and dark
stevenaia Michinaga: many people rushing around out of a need to please others with presents, usually spending to much, lots of stress, but in the end, a moment of happiness
Calvino Rabeni: nods
Calvino Rabeni: it's a bit like coffee .. why is it that Seattle is a coffee center of the world, with so many coffee houses, and why coffee
Paradise Tennant: to me it is a series of binding rituals I do every year with family and friends :)) you could take snapshots .. and they would look mostly the same :))
Paradise Tennant: less skiing now but mostly the same faces .. the same rituals :))
Calvino Rabeni: part of the answer is, dark wet rainy climate ... it's needed to get people out of their caves, to ward off S.A.D.
Paradise Tennant: like you are going through life together and this is the moment you realize it

Calvino Rabeni: I understand about the rituals .. had one for thanks giving, and it felt just like the year before
Calvino Rabeni: in fact I could not remember whether I'd done the same on the christmas holiday too :)
Calvino Rabeni: but it didn't create a unique marker for memory
Paradise Tennant: yes I do the same parites every year .. now I am thinking about it .. maybe should mix it up a bit .. a least new shoes and new dress :))
Calvino Rabeni: I sort of think one of the functions of ritual is to do that

Calvino Rabeni: they get differentiated by things like .. so and so's new boyfriend, or, the bird was dropped on the floor
Paradise Tennant: i love it when the bird gets dropped on the floor or someone uptips the salad and we quickly stuff it all back in the bowl :))

Calvino Rabeni: Last year it was to bring additional "spirits" in liquid form
Calvino Rabeni: and a game book, which didn't get used

Paradise Tennant: funny was caught on broken down tain on new eve afternoon once in minus 40 degree weather incredibly cold

Paradise Tennant: just trees and straight track

Paradise Tennant: remember standing and listening .. really listening

Paradise Tennant: when we did make it to civilization .. it was so welcome.. we were so cold .. the hot chocolate was like heaven
