The Guardian for this mostly sparse and quiet session was Storm Nordwind. The comments are by Storm Nordwind.

Please note: The comments of Susan (iwandertoo) did not appear in the log, as presumably she was too far from the logger. So I have overwritten logger output with my own private log.

    Update on living and working.

    Dash (dash.earthboy): hey Storm
Storm Nordwind: Hi Dash. How are you?

Dash (dash.earthboy): condo is in Laporte
    Dash (dash.earthboy): loving Laporte
Storm Nordwind: Oh well. It's a lot closer than I used to commute in England
Storm Nordwind: Once upon a time in England I commuted 70 miles in each direction, for 4 years!
Storm Nordwind: And it was normal to take 100 minutes travel time to work. Seems crazy in retrospect!

    Susan and Samúð arrive.

Storm Nordwind: /me waves to Susan and Sam
Dash (dash.earthboy): hey Sam & SusanSusan Sorensson (iwandertoo): waves
Samúð (oo0oo): Hi Storm.. Dash, Susan
Storm Nordwind: We've been pretty much quiet here so far, apart from greetings, so the floor is open if any topic occurs to you! :)
    Samúð (oo0oo): /me nods

Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): /me walks a lot
Storm Nordwind: I was used to doing that in the UK, but less so here with much higher summer temperatures.
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): glaad u have the temp back

    Choosing a place to live.

Storm Nordwind: I have moved around so much in my life - more than 40 so-called "permanent" addresses - that it's been easy not to get attached to one place over another. I still notice and appreciate the differences though. There has been much beauty in most of the places I've been fortunate to stay in, and here is no exception. :)

Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): that's wonderful, storm
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): I have yet to choose a place to live...
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): circumstances have dictated where I am...looking forward to making that decision
Storm Nordwind: Perhaps it is not yet time for you to do so. Or perhaps you have not get found a place that feels right.
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): nods...the bvi felt like home
Storm Nordwind: But I sympathize with circumstances... I had to move with family and jobs so many times.
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): nyc feels like a short-term home

Home is where the heart is.

Storm Nordwind: They say "Home is where the heart is". I guess that means different things to different people. For some it might mean where they feel right. To others, it might mean simply where their loved one(s) is/are.
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): nods
Storm Nordwind: And for still others, it might simply mean being at peace with yourself, wherever you are geographically.
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): as a primary very much so

    A sticky song.

Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): "...and the things were too young to know..."
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): song, 'book of love' ... peter gabriel

Storm Nordwind: Thanks for that. Never heard that song before. :))
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): yw
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): I have been humming it for a long while
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): along with another song...
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): how things stick
Storm Nordwind: Does it have a special meaning for you? Or is it just a "sticky" song? :)
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): always :)
Storm Nordwind: Sorry - Firestorm just crashed on me. Back now :)
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): wb

    Ars Longa Vita Brevis.

Storm Nordwind: I sometimes whether whether I should play and write songs and music again... but "Ars Longa Vita Brevis"
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): I will take a look tonight...or a listen
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): :)
Storm Nordwind: Ah that was just a quote - The Art is big, but life is short
    Storm Nordwind: Hippocrates i believe
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): I read it as long live brevity
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): haha
    Storm Nordwind: hehe!
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): ty...would have been searching for a song
Storm Nordwind: Oh there is a song - 1960s, by The Nice - but I suspect you wouldn't want that. :)
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): why so?
Storm Nordwind: The singing is a little - hmm, poor. But instrumentally it's wonderful, if you like the mix of rock and classical Keith Emerson used to do.

(Judge for yourself - for example here and here!)

    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): keith emerson?
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): emerson palmer lake...wonders
Storm Nordwind: Virtuoso rock keyboard player
Storm Nordwind: The Nice was his band before ELP
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): know very little about music
Storm Nordwind: The full Hippocrates quote is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ars_longa,_vita_brevis
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): do no harm...

    Upside of the downside.

Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): downside of mobiles is one can't remain in chat and search
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): *downside of this app

Storm Nordwind: /Hmm... I'm no expert on mobile apps as I'm usually in one place and have no need.
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): upside of the downside is I revisit the logs
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): :)
    Storm Nordwind: haha! yes :)
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): rethink...wonder...process...hear something new in the words not seen before...integrate...debate...smile...
Storm Nordwind: Yes. I often find that when posting logs. However, I'm careful not to comment after the fact. Just a personal rule... as it wouldn't give people a chance to respond live.
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): understand
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): waves...thank you for this

Samúð (oo0oo): I think it is very considerate to think of others in a way that allows them to have a say in what affects them.
Storm Nordwind: Well it's something I try for. Not sure I always succeed! But I appeciate it in my own life when that consideration is (or is not) shown to me. :)
Samúð (oo0oo): notion of "fairness" and there being more points of view to consider
Samúð (oo0oo): and I also appreciate this
Storm Nordwind: And very often, I find it is simpler to do act this way. Much less contrived. An advantage of my being lazy, perhaps! ;-)

    Walking in others' shoes.

Samúð (oo0oo): watched some videos from a slam poetry event hosted at the White House (USA) by president Obama and first lady Obama. One couple offered a performance about "walking in others' shoes' and using words effectively. Concluded by saying... the more we can imagine ourselves in their shoes...

    Samúð (oo0oo): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Dwk7Swz2tA
    Storm Nordwind: /me watches
Storm Nordwind: Love it! Thank you for that. If only their audience was a wider political audience!
Samúð (oo0oo): /me smiles... well it's up on YouTube so...
Storm Nordwind: And even before we learn to put ourselves in someone else's shoes, I suspect we have to learn to listen before we talk. :)
    Samúð (oo0oo): sorry
    Samúð (oo0oo): afk
Storm Nordwind: /me apologizes but he must go. Bye!
Storm Nordwind's PaB Listener: No longer recording. Have a nice day. :)
