The Guardian for this meeting was Zen Arado. The comments are by Zen Arado. Present were Eliza Madrigal, Miralee Munro, Morgano Bravin, Santoshima Resident, Storm Nordwind, Susan Sorrensen and myself

    Video screen information:

    Zen Arado: Hi Miralee :)
    Miralee Munro: Hello Zen.
Zen Arado: I come over all official now :)
    Miralee Munro: Hi Eliza
    Zen Arado: Hi Eliza :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Zen and Mira :)
Eliza Madrigal: Miralee .. so cloudy
    Miralee Munro: Again?
Zen Arado: I see Storm online Mira
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Storm :)
Zen Arado: yes ..just a cloud Mira
    Storm Nordwind: Hello everyone
Miralee Munro: I am just going to give up with looking to other people, the way I look on my screen
    Miralee Munro: Hello Storm
    Zen Arado: Hi Storm:)
Eliza Madrigal: :) seems wise Mira
Zen Arado: Mira was aking me about getting a large video screen Storm
    Storm Nordwind: Oh?
Zen Arado: you know a good place?
Miralee Munro: We have someone who wants to screen something on Perfect Paradise that they have on You Tube
Storm Nordwind: Ah yes. We have exactly that in the Molecule theater
Storm Nordwind: I got ours from Icarus
Zen Arado: I told her where I got mine but you might know somewhere better
Miralee Munro: But once you have the screen, what else do you need to do Storm?
Miralee Munro: Just put the link to the You Tube clip on to the video line in ABOUT LAND?
Storm Nordwind: Well they come with instructions, but it includes deeding it to the group (if it's on group owned land).
    Miralee Munro: Okay ....
    Miralee Munro: can do that.
Storm Nordwind: You drive the video spec from the screens console
    Miralee Munro: the video spec?
Storm Nordwind: I use a master console that only someone with permissions can operate. And the main screen is just a "repeater" that other people can see but can't control.
    Miralee Munro: Okay ...
Miralee Munro: so everyone watches the same thing at the same time?
Storm Nordwind: There's a reason for that. The system will give access to all sorts, including porn!
Storm Nordwind: Yes and no Miralee. The will watch the same thing, but it's impossible to sync it to them watching it at the same time (unlike music streaming)
Zen Arado: yeh I told Mira that
Zen Arado: usually find ppl can't see it
Zen Arado: or takes longer to get started
Miralee Munro: Okay ... thanks ... that gives me something to work with.
Storm Nordwind: I have a landmark somewhere, I'll get it for you.
Zen Arado: my system is Icarus too
Zen Arado: but from a video hire place
Zen Arado: it's nice to watch films with others
Storm Nordwind: Yes, I don't go from them. I don't want the rental service. And I don't want to give anyone else access to my account
Miralee Munro: Thank you both for all that ... that really helps.
Storm Nordwind: Just sent you a landmark
    Miralee Munro: Great.
Zen Arado: I don't give any acess to my account
    Miralee Munro: Thanks.
Zen Arado: just pay 140 L$ or so perfilm
Zen Arado: can buy for 200 L$ I think
Zen Arado: must do that in future
    Miralee Munro: Hello iwander
    Zen Arado: Hi Susan
Miralee Munro: Thanks for giving me that time to go through that.
Storm Nordwind: I got the more expensive system for the theater by the way. That allows the screen to be separately rezzed and derezzed. The cheaper one is more restrictive. IIRC I paid around L$1350
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Susan :)
Zen Arado: Kodo, Sun and I used to watch films
    Storm Nordwind waves to Susan
Zen Arado: we could have a pab film night
Storm Nordwind: yes. A film noght has certainly been suggested.
    Storm Nordwind: *night
Zen Arado: what could we show though?
    Zen Arado: you ok Eliza?
Storm Nordwind: Well I was was thinking more about timezone synchronization. Long shows are good when it's your evening, but perhaps less so if it's your midday. :)
Miralee Munro: That's the perennial issue isn't it?
    Zen Arado: yes
Miralee Munro: Trying to correlate time zones so that it's moderately convenient for most people.
Eliza Madrigal: yes okay Zen, thanks :)
Storm Nordwind: Which is why most Molecule Theater shows start at noon SLT. (Except shows for Japanese audiences which start at 6am.)
    Zen Arado: good Eliza :)
Zen Arado: there are some good You Tube videos too
Zen Arado: could have a little commitee to decide
Zen Arado: but maybe too much work
Miralee Munro: There are some environmental films which could prompt some discussions ....
Zen Arado: have enough to do already
Miralee Munro: like 'Home' or "Food Inc" or "The Power of Community - How Cuba Survived Peak Oil"
Zen Arado: yeh we watched one about the cruel treatment of dolphins
    Miralee Munro: The Cove
    Zen Arado: yes
Storm Nordwind: By the way, who ever has claimed the log today might need to graft in Susan's comments. I don't thing the logger gives out listeners at her distance from the pool and I can't see a listener next to her.
    Storm Nordwind: *think
Zen Arado: up to you Susan (Susan said she didn't want comments noted so I didn't add them)
Miralee Munro: I love how films take us on a journey
    Miralee Munro: like books
    Zen Arado: yes
Miralee Munro: stories are great vehicles for taking us to another place and time.
Zen Arado: Kodo takes me to arthouse type films in RL
Storm Nordwind: I often prefer to explore rather than be taken on someone else's ride. :)
Zen Arado: I usually don't understand them :)
Miralee Munro: What do you explore Storm?
Zen Arado: yeh but he gives me a lift in his car
Zen Arado: otherwise I don't get there
Storm Nordwind: Well, for example, you might get to a point in a story or movie and want to say "Stop - or pause - I'd like to get out and explore the scenery and characters a little more right now."
    Miralee Munro: lol
Miralee Munro: You're made for DVD then, Storm?
Miralee Munro: or living in SL?

We moved from video hardware to films and painting:

Storm Nordwind: My whole life is an exploration, whichever avatar I use. :)
Miralee Munro: I find that when I'm checking out something on the internet, I try to camera in closer to get a better look.
Zen Arado: maybe moviemakers expect you to watch at the pace they decided though?
Storm Nordwind: Yes they do Zen. It makes them money! ;)
Miralee Munro: It's like a piece of music ... it's presented in the way they feel it.
    Zen Arado: :)
Zen Arado: yeh that's what I was getting at Mira
Miralee Munro: What a cynic Storm!
Storm Nordwind: Unlike a piece of artwork where it's less successful if the artist is trying to get you to interpret it in their way, rather allowing you to find your own way
Zen Arado: loike you wouldn't pause a Beethoven symphony and replay from the beginning?
Zen Arado: I find no one really looks at my paintings closely
Miralee Munro: How does a piece of artwork get you to interpret it in any other way, other than the way YOU see it?
Zen Arado: maybe that is a learned skill
Miralee Munro: I'm not very good at doing anything the way someone else tells me how to do it ...
Storm Nordwind: The artist can constrain you in many ways, through form, substance, eben titles. Piece like that have more limited shelf life. If they don't do that, you find yourse;f revisiting the piece time and again, unlike the more constrained pieces.
Zen Arado: I studied some art history and they teach you (or give you pointers) for appreciating art
Miralee Munro: I hated art history!
Miralee Munro: It was my worst grade in the media course I did.
    Miralee Munro: I passed,
    Miralee Munro: but just.
Zen Arado: I remember PreRaphaelite art that had a whole moral tale in the painting
    Zen Arado: Hi Santo :)
    Storm Nordwind waves
Santoshima Resident: hi zen storm eliza, susan ~
Zen Arado: some of it can a bit pompous I found
Storm Nordwind: Exactly so. Unless you want that pompous message at that particular time, you won't listen to it. A more ambiguous message gets more listening (viewing) time from more people overall. (But the preRaphaelites also had their paymasters who wanted certain messages!)
Miralee Munro: Storm, it sounds like you like to have a high level of control in your life.
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Santo, really cute look :)
Storm Nordwind: Not really Miralee. Quite the opposite in fact. I just shrug off the controls of other people!
Zen Arado: yes nice red hair too
    Miralee Munro: Oh, okay.
Santoshima Resident: uhm, i aim to be presentable
Santoshima Resident: what are you folks talking about?
Zen Arado: art history and appreciation atm
    Santoshima Resident: hmm
Zen Arado: sometimes ppl see things in my paintings I didn't realize was there
Miralee Munro: and once the've pointed it out, what happens then Zen?
Storm Nordwind: How do you react to that Zen?
Zen Arado: I had a great session here one time just showing some paintings to Sam and a couple of others one at a time
Eliza Madrigal: that happens in photos as well... like the little frogs in the lotus picture. They weren't there until they appeared in the camera :)
Eliza Madrigal: (from nova scotia retreat)
Zen Arado: I was really pleased :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Zen Arado: perhaps something in our subconscious is putting in things your conscious mind isn't aware of
Storm Nordwind: The experience of art takes place within the perceiver. So when people find new things I take it as a compliment that they've found new richness.
    Zen Arado: yes :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Miralee Munro: Will you all please excuse me? I get a bit antsy if I'm away from the island too long .... I think I really am becoming a recluse.
    Miralee Munro smiles
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
    Miralee Munro: Adieu for now.
    Miralee Munro: XXXXXX
    Storm Nordwind waves
    Zen Arado: np Mira
Zen Arado: thanks for coming :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Bye Mira
    Santoshima Resident: bye miralee
Zen Arado: art is a two way process
Zen Arado: BTW tell me if you want me to take my paintings from the theater Storm
Storm Nordwind: Ah yes... they're OK for now. Perhaps when we have a new production and a new artist!
Santoshima Resident: how does one get to the theatre by solo balloon? i'd like to see those paintings
    Zen Arado: what about Xirana?
Zen Arado: she has a an exhibition at a place in SL
    Zen Arado: Hi Morgano
    Santoshima Resident: hello morgano
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi morgano :))
Zen Arado: have you been here before Morgano?
Eliza Madrigal: Morgano has a friend's onigokko tail in her back pocket
morgano Bravin: Hi folks,,yes zen ty
    Zen Arado: ok fine
    Eliza Madrigal grins
    morgano Bravin: :))
Storm Nordwind: Santo - walk about 80m due north of where you're sitting now, and you'll see a small flashing box on the ground to your left. There's a balloon above it. Touch the balloon once, and once again. :)
    Santoshima Resident: ok, thanks storm
Santoshima Resident: eliza: what does that mean: about onigokko ...
    Storm Nordwind: uh oh!
    Santoshima Resident: oh, never mind
    Santoshima Resident: then
Eliza Madrigal: some of the onigokkos are invisible.. and some show a cute little tail...
    Zen Arado: onigokko
    Santoshima Resident: oh
    Zen Arado: stop
Eliza Madrigal: there is a friend Mick who used to come here a lot;... he is one of the few who keep the visible tail...
    Zen Arado: hmm lost mine
Eliza Madrigal: he and Lia I think :)
Zen Arado: wonder what happened to Mick ...sigh
Eliza Madrigal: do you have an oni Santo?
    Santoshima Resident: yes
    Eliza Madrigal: K :)
    Santoshima Resident: ty
Storm Nordwind thinks Mick is currently travelling
    Eliza Madrigal nods
morgano Bravin: I am sure Mick has finnished his travels and is back at work again.
Zen Arado: haven't seen him for months
morgano Bravin: He will be back I am sure

SL and the time it takes from our lives:

Zen Arado: do you think some get tired of SL and leave after a while?
Eliza Madrigal: I think SL requires a break sometimes
Zen Arado: I notice this happening
morgano Bravin: I suspect some do and others just need time out
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Zen Arado: is ratioing a good idea?
morgano Bravin: I am more suprised that so many can commit so much time to sl
    Zen Arado: rationing
Zen Arado: yeh I am retired so could spend all day and night in here if I want
Zen Arado: but how much is healthy?
Storm Nordwind: Talented polymaths often need to split their time over many many activities , and often do it in large "lumps" rather that more evenly.
    Storm Nordwind: *than
Eliza Madrigal: yes for me it seems impossible to formula-ize
Eliza Madrigal: there are waves of depth/shallowness and intensity/focus of time
Storm Nordwind: Recreation allows re-creation :)
Zen Arado: don't know about being a talented polymath but SL curtails other activities for me
Eliza Madrigal: there is just a difference in attention... at one point I was involved in many focused discussions and that is a different energy
Zen Arado: I could be painting in RL atm

    Work or Play?

Storm Nordwind: Maybe you're playing now instead of working, Zen? "All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy." :)
morgano Bravin: for me, if I am going to abstain from regular duties, ie housework etc, then SL is an active form of relaxation
Eliza Madrigal: :) sometimes dishes are a good break from SL
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
Zen Arado: yes but all play and no work?
    Santoshima Resident: :)
    Zen Arado: :)
Eliza Madrigal: SL is lots of different things, is the thing...
Zen Arado: work/play not much different for me
Storm Nordwind: Ah - that might be a short term view Zen. Over the long term, maybe you have and will work.
Zen Arado: just one is more disciplined perhaps
Zen Arado: work = doing things I don't like too much
    Eliza Madrigal: heheh
    Zen Arado: :)
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
    Zen Arado: un-nods :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
Zen Arado: I was never fortunate to really like the jobs I did
morgano Bravin: I have a joke ..'violence on multi story car parks is wrong on so many levels'
    Storm Nordwind groans
Eliza Madrigal rolls eyes, but laughs too
    Zen Arado: :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes or at least pleasure @ Susan :)
Eliza Madrigal: even mundane tasks have pleasure in them somewhere
Storm Nordwind wonders whether morgano thinks we've come here to play pool. ;)
morgano Bravin: I prefer 'its essential to find in your work a form of play' :))
Zen Arado: what if you are not good at your job?
Santoshima Resident: bye everyone ~ (heading to "work" ~ enjoy the day ! thank you
Zen Arado: or have a nasty boss?
    Storm Nordwind: Bye for now!
    morgano Bravin: bye Santo
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Santo, enjoy the day
    Zen Arado: bye Sant :)
morgano Bravin: I have to go, sorry..thanks for the chat
Eliza Madrigal: bye morgano, be well
    morgano Bravin: take care
Zen Arado: I seem to know ppl like that...barely coping with their job and getting threatened by superiors
    Storm Nordwind: Bye!
    Zen Arado: bye Morgano
Eliza Madrigal: ah, I need to get going as well...
    Zen Arado: kk
    Zen Arado: bye liza
Eliza Madrigal: nice to see you all, thanks Zen
    Zen Arado: bye Storm
    Storm Nordwind waves
