Aphrodite Macbain: Yes. It's hard when I don't have a car
Aphrodite Macbain: My 87 yr old mother, plus brother and sister in law
    Sunshine Vayandar: oh kk
    Sunshine Vayandar: 87!
Aphrodite Macbain: I have to learn to slow down at go at her pace - physically and mentally
Sunshine Vayandar: how is your mom?
Sunshine Vayandar: it's like a different dimension
Aphrodite Macbain: not bad. she is prone to angina, panic attacks and motion sickness
Aphrodite Macbain: last night we had to leave a restaurant cause she couldn't stand the noise
    Sunshine Vayandar: oh kk
Sunshine Vayandar: hmm at 87 it can happen I suppose

Aphrodite Macbain: You have a couple of children, don't you?
    Sunshine Vayandar: yes ;)
    Sunshine Vayandar: and a puppy
Aphrodite Macbain: how do you juggle spending time with them and spending time in SL and RL?
    Sunshine Vayandar: no idea hehe
    Aphrodite Macbain: lol
Sunshine Vayandar: but I love SL
    Sunshine Vayandar: especially PaB
Aphrodite Macbain: Is it a form of respite from RL?
Sunshine Vayandar: and tomorrow something exciting is happening
Sunshine Vayandar: hmm where I live I can't share thoughts like I can here
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hello Susan
    iwandertoo Resident: waves :)

    iwandertoo Resident: ty
    iwandertoo Resident: hi Sun
    Sunshine Vayandar: very pretty ;)
    iwandertoo Resident: ty
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes. I have pared my avi down to very little so I can attend. I realized my hair was using most of the rendering costs

Sunshine Vayandar: ahh yes I saw in the google groups
Sunshine Vayandar: Woly explained it well
Aphrodite Macbain: astonising how much information a flexi haircut can use up
    Sunshine Vayandar: ah yes
Sunshine Vayandar: it's good to know
Aphrodite Macbain: Hence my rather drab appearance
Aphrodite Macbain: I notice you have changed your hair too Sun
Sunshine Vayandar: yes ;) today I am more like my RL version
    Sunshine Vayandar: ;)
    Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
Aphrodite Macbain: along with what you're wearing?!
    Sunshine Vayandar: nonooo
    Sunshine Vayandar: hehe
    Sunshine Vayandar: wait
    iwandertoo Resident: lol
Aphrodite Macbain: where do you find those lovely skirts Sun?
Sunshine Vayandar: hmm this one is zaara
    Aphrodite Macbain: zaara?
Aphrodite Macbain: is that a site?
Sunshine Vayandar: no let me get the LM ;)
    Aphrodite Macbain: Thanks!!
Aphrodite Macbain: How are you Susan?
    Aphrodite Macbain: Cool- thanks!
    Sunshine Vayandar: ;)
    iwandertoo Resident: ok, thanks
    Aphrodite Macbain: Busy day?
    iwandertoo Resident: cleaning house
iwandertoo Resident: preparing to stage it in a month or so to sell
    Aphrodite Macbain: spring cleaning?
Aphrodite Macbain: I'm trying to exchange my winter clothes to summer clothes and throwing things out in the process
    iwandertoo Resident: :)
iwandertoo Resident: tossing a lot of books today
Aphrodite Macbain: Amazing what we keep that we never use/wear/eat/read
    iwandertoo Resident: very true
Sunshine Vayandar: oh that one is actually from Arya
Sunshine Vayandar: but you can check both shops
Sunshine Vayandar: here it's winter brrrrr
    iwandertoo Resident: ty Sun
Aphrodite Macbain: Arya? Is that a shop too?
Sunshine Vayandar: yes it's the shop where I got that saree
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes, lovely
Sunshine Vayandar: she makes very nice things
    iwandertoo Resident: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: Wonder what is going to happen here tomorrow.
Sunshine Vayandar: hmm yes mysterious indeed ;)
Sunshine Vayandar: Bleu always comes up with interesting things
Aphrodite Macbain: A performance of some sort I would guess.
Sunshine Vayandar: hmm we will see
iwandertoo Resident: Sun knows, i believe
Aphrodite Macbain: I cant imagine anything being better that your group's performance during the birthday celebrations, Sun
Sunshine Vayandar: ah yes that was nice
Sunshine Vayandar: I haven't danced for a while
Sunshine Vayandar: but some performances are coming up soon
    Sunshine Vayandar: hi Zenji ;)
Aphrodite Macbain: It would nice if all Guardians could work on a performance together
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Zen
Sunshine Vayandar: all of us together?
    Zen Arado: Hi Folks :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes sun
    iwandertoo Resident: hi Zen
Sunshine Vayandar: we are wondering about the event tomorrow Zenji
Aphrodite Macbain: You're all dressed up today Zen
    Sunshine Vayandar: very elegant ;)
Zen Arado: it's an old freebie outfit
    Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
Sunshine Vayandar: looks nicely done ;)
Zen Arado: less scruffy than usual I guess
Aphrodite Macbain: "oh this old thing...just threw it on..."
    Zen Arado: yep
    Sunshine Vayandar: lol
    Zen Arado: :)
    iwandertoo Resident: :)
    Sunshine Vayandar: hehe
Sunshine Vayandar: what's news in Zen's world today?
    Zen Arado: hmmm
    Zen Arado: not much
    Sunshine Vayandar: relaxing day?

    Jammin'

Zen Arado: found a blues scale thing
    Zen Arado: was trying it
    Sunshine Vayandar: really
    Sunshine Vayandar: on the net?
    Zen Arado: yeh
    Zen Arado: http://www.freejamtracks.com/play-gu...-blues-01.html
Sunshine Vayandar: and how is it
    Aphrodite Macbain: playing yr guitar?
Zen Arado: it has jamming tracks too
    Sunshine Vayandar: ty ;)
Aphrodite Macbain: how do you use it?
    Sunshine Vayandar: hmm interesting
Zen Arado: you just play that scale
Zen Arado: and then improvise on it
    Aphrodite Macbain: on your guitar
    Zen Arado: yes
    Sunshine Vayandar: hmm sounds great
Aphrodite Macbain: I'm curious about the jamming tracks, how can you improvise something that is pre-written?
Zen Arado: it is just the basic notes
    Aphrodite Macbain: oh
Sunshine Vayandar: you combine them into melodies
Zen Arado: all music uses notes from a scale
Sunshine Vayandar: they are like lego
    Aphrodite Macbain: gotcha

    Finding and Comparing ARCS

Aphrodite Macbain: Has everyone checked their ARC yet to be prepared for tomorrow's event? "There's a couple of things that can help reduce lag: > * Reduce "ARC" - avatar rendering cost (and hence the load on > everyone's viewers). > * Reduce the number of attached scripts (and hence the load on the server).
Zen Arado: yeh mine is 472
    Aphrodite Macbain: Is that high?
    Zen Arado: don't know
    Zen Arado: it's green anyway
Sunshine Vayandar: no I think that's ok
Aphrodite Macbain: If it's in red, I think it is
Aphrodite Macbain: I changed my hair and cut the number in half!
    Sunshine Vayandar: I am red
Sunshine Vayandar: will have to do something
Sunshine Vayandar: wow you are 250 Aph
Aphrodite Macbain: check to see what happens if you remove your flexi things like hair and skirt
    Sunshine Vayandar: yes I will
Aphrodite Macbain: Seems like Bleu's planning for lots of people attending
Sunshine Vayandar: hmm yes lots of people booked
Zen Arado: mine isn't coming up now
Sunshine Vayandar: what do you mean Zenji?
    Sunshine Vayandar: your ARC?
Aphrodite Macbain: oh? Advanced/performance tools/show avatar rendering cots
Zen Arado: there was a green number above my head when I tried it last
    Zen Arado: yes
    Zen Arado: 472 it said
Zen Arado: yeh but it won't do it now
    Sunshine Vayandar: now it's 178
    Sunshine Vayandar: 183
Sunshine Vayandar: oh back to 178
    Zen Arado: that's low
    Sunshine Vayandar: yes
iwandertoo Resident: how do you see this?
    Zen Arado: depends what viewer
    Sunshine Vayandar: I have Imprudence
    iwandertoo Resident: phoenix
Sunshine Vayandar: it's in the advanced menu
    Zen Arado: don't know then
Aphrodite Macbain: It should be written above yr head. Sometimes you have to remove your name in order to see it
Zen Arado: but it's on the advanced menu
Zen Arado: ah I see it now
    Zen Arado: above my tag
Aphrodite Macbain: You can see avatar rendering costs here: > Viewer 1 (and Phoenix etc.): Advanced menu > Rendering > Info displays > > Avatar rendering cost Viewer 2: Advanced menu > Performance tools > > Show avatar rendering cost This puts the ARC over each avatar's head. > Green numbers are good. Yellow less so. Red is bad.
Sunshine Vayandar: for me it's Advanced -> Rendering -> INfo displays -> Avatar Rendering Cost
    iwandertoo Resident: 2870
    iwandertoo Resident: red
Aphrodite Macbain: bet it's your hair!!
    iwandertoo Resident: most probably, yes
Sunshine Vayandar: yes I have newbie hair now
Sunshine Vayandar: and I am green
    Sunshine Vayandar: ;)
Aphrodite Macbain: the flexi scripts are large
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes me too
Sunshine Vayandar: I went to a U2 concert
    Sunshine Vayandar: in SL
Sunshine Vayandar: we have to be naked ... almost ;)
Aphrodite Macbain: cute pony tail Sun
    Zen Arado: oh?
    Sunshine Vayandar: ty ;)
    iwandertoo Resident: 1020 yellow
Aphrodite Macbain: just back to basics
Sunshine Vayandar: the organizers told us to lower the ARC before the show
    Aphrodite Macbain: I'm 969 (green)
Sunshine Vayandar: colorful hair Susan ;)
Aphrodite Macbain: Wonder what it would be like if we were to have a limitation to our "rendering costs" in real life
    Sunshine Vayandar: ;)
Zen Arado: should others see your ARC?
Aphrodite Macbain: can you see mine?
    Sunshine Vayandar: I see everyone's
    Aphrodite Macbain: me too
    iwandertoo Resident: 807 yellow
Zen Arado: ah yes see them now
Aphrodite Macbain: we're all green except Susan. Tsk tsk Susan! :-)
    Sunshine Vayandar: hehe
    iwandertoo Resident: 198?
    Zen Arado: 2077
Sunshine Vayandar: yes now you are good ;)
Sunshine Vayandar: I see 183 for Susan
    Zen Arado: 1848 now
Aphrodite Macbain: we can all match hair styles
    Zen Arado: and yellow
iwandertoo Resident: sun, can you send that again?
    Sunshine Vayandar: strange Zenji
Sunshine Vayandar: I seem to see different numbers
    iwandertoo Resident: 309
    iwandertoo Resident: green
Sunshine Vayandar: I see 294 for Susan
Zen Arado: maybe your viewer counts them differently
Sunshine Vayandar: yes it seems so
Aphrodite Macbain: Susan's number is hidden under her name
Aphrodite Macbain: Sun could you send me that hair again. I can't seem to find it in my inventory
    Zen Arado: Sun's is 977
Sunshine Vayandar: I zoomed around a bit - then I could see
Sunshine Vayandar: no Zenji - mine is 454 ;)
iwandertoo Resident: what is mine now?
Aphrodite Macbain: it says 1005 Sun
    Aphrodite Macbain: 2113
    iwandertoo Resident: 2113?
    Zen Arado: Aphro is 969
    Aphrodite Macbain: in yellow
Sunshine Vayandar: I see 279 for Susan
    Aphrodite Macbain: oops
Zen Arado: heh we all get different readings
    Sunshine Vayandar: lol
    Aphrodite Macbain: how strange
iwandertoo Resident: can i wear my regular hair then...:(
    iwandertoo Resident: laughing
    Sunshine Vayandar: hehehe
Sunshine Vayandar: yes let's get back to our hair
Aphrodite Macbain: you should be in a green colour
    Sunshine Vayandar: ;p
Aphrodite Macbain: so as not to use up too much
Aphrodite Macbain: but you can wait until noon tomorrow
    Zen Arado: Hi Qt :)
    Sunshine Vayandar: hi Qt ;)
    Qt Core: hi all!
    Aphrodite Macbain: Salve Qt
    Zen Arado: wow 3972
Sunshine Vayandar: Qt is in trouble
    Qt Core: 3972 ?
    Zen Arado: yep
    Zen Arado: 4072 now
Aphrodite Macbain: we're checking our rendering cost numbers Qt
Sunshine Vayandar: he will be grounded
Sunshine Vayandar: no Qt is 2133
Qt Core: ohh, fast solution to that (Qt removes his hair)
    Sunshine Vayandar: lol
    Aphrodite Macbain: that helped immediately!
    Sunshine Vayandar: yes ;)
Aphrodite Macbain: you look nice bald Qt
Sunshine Vayandar: Qt knows the secret ;)
Zen Arado: sure did -- down to 144
Aphrodite Macbain: He's the lowest of all of us
    Sunshine Vayandar: yes
Zen Arado: we all have to be bald then
    Sunshine Vayandar: noooooooo
Aphrodite Macbain: (removes her hair) hmmm nice and cool
Qt Core: you know, i think i'm more attached to my sl hair than to my rl ones (when i'll lose the rl ones people will start to tell me to comb them)
    Qt Core: stop
    Aphrodite Macbain: hehe Qt
    Sunshine Vayandar: ;)
Zen Arado: he he you look like Samuo
Sunshine Vayandar: may be I should be a nun
Aphrodite Macbain: we could all change and look like Samuo!!
    Sunshine Vayandar: hehe yes
Aphrodite Macbain: makes me want to decorate my head with henna
Sunshine Vayandar: hmm good idea ;)
Aphrodite Macbain: would we become genderless?
Aphrodite Macbain: That may require more adjustments
    Sunshine Vayandar: genderless?
    Aphrodite Macbain: androgynous
Sunshine Vayandar: hmm I have to google that ;)
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hey Dash!
    Sunshine Vayandar: hi Dash ;)
Qt Core: you two are reminding me about llia from the forst star trek movie ;-)
    Zen Arado: Hi Dash
Aphrodite Macbain: don't know that one Qt
    Dash Earthboy: hey y'all
    Qt Core: http://images.google.com/search?hl=i...l0l211l211l2-1
    Aphrodite Macbain: ilia's lovely
Zen Arado: but even nicer with hair
    Aphrodite Macbain: How's the music?
    Dash Earthboy: me Aph?
    Sunshine Vayandar: thanks Qt
    Sunshine Vayandar: brb
Aphrodite Macbain: I went thru chemotherapy and was bald for 3 months. It was fun!
Aphrodite Macbain: ...not the chemo but the baldness..
Dash Earthboy: oh what fun :(
Zen Arado: a good way to think
    iwandertoo Resident: yes
Aphrodite Macbain: I painted my head with henna decorations
    Dash Earthboy: heheh
    Sunshine Vayandar: ;)
Aphrodite Macbain: and wore great headscarves
Dash Earthboy: covered the old egg huh?
Sunshine Vayandar: Aph is so nice ;))
Aphrodite Macbain: It's cold in Canada during the winter -needed those scarves!
    Dash Earthboy: yep
Sunshine Vayandar: I must go everyone see u tomorrow at the event
Aphrodite Macbain: my hats were too big!!
    Dash Earthboy: bye Sunshine
    Qt Core: bye sunshine
    Aphrodite Macbain: Bye
    Aphrodite Macbain: Bye! Sun. GTSY
    Zen Arado: bye Sun
    Sunshine Vayandar: niteniteee ;)
    iwandertoo Resident: waves
    Zen Arado: take care
    Sunshine Vayandar: ;)
    Aphrodite Macbain: poof
Dash Earthboy: seems like I was just here

Dash Earthboy: oh that's right...that's why i popped onto this seat
Dash Earthboy: up to about 2 hrs ago
    Dash Earthboy: lonnnng conversations

    A Hairy Debate

Qt Core: but i'm getting on my hair ;-)
Dash Earthboy: i've got a few minutes before A Prairie Home Companion comes on
Dash Earthboy: you're getting on your hair?
    Qt Core: unbald myself ;-)
Dash Earthboy: putting on your hair?
    Dash Earthboy: or growing it?
    Qt Core: putting on
    Dash Earthboy: ah, ok
Dash Earthboy: i'm due to cut mine again...overdue
Dash Earthboy: i last brought out the clippers 6 weeks ago
Dash Earthboy: didn't do a great job then either
Dash Earthboy: but my clipper set was a gift to save me money
Qt Core: i usually cut mine once a year, a year and half, so it is not such an investment
    Dash Earthboy: wow
Dash Earthboy: i'm not complaining mind you
Dash Earthboy: but mine really needs cut at least each 8 weeks
Qt Core: the cut your hair signal is when they start falling on my eyes too often when i'm reading on my bed ;-)
    Dash Earthboy: heheh
Dash Earthboy: that's when i cut my eyebrows
    Dash Earthboy: :)
    Qt Core: :)
Dash Earthboy: my hair is following my father's pattern rather than my maternal grandfather's
Dash Earthboy: i believe such things are passed through mother's genes, no?
    Qt Core: don't know
Dash Earthboy: my maternal grandfather had full head of white hair in his 90s when he passed
Dash Earthboy: my father lost most by time he passed at 70
Qt Core: mina have characteristic from both my parents
    Qt Core: mine
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: mine looks more like my dad's too
Dash Earthboy: fine Native American style hair
Qt Core: the white hair i'm starting getting are more from stress than from age
    Dash Earthboy: same here
Dash Earthboy: even hair loss is more stress than age for me
Qt Core: stop pulling them then ;-)
Dash Earthboy: my last marriage really did a number physically on me
Dash Earthboy: i only pull the ones from my nose :)
Dash Earthboy: ppl used to guess my age at more than 10 years younger prior to that marriage
Dash Earthboy: now they only guess 7 years younger
Qt Core: coming from another language hair is one of the weirdest words in english (especially for its almost always being plural thing)
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Qt Core: and for being used for head hair and beard hair and leg hair
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Qt Core: but every language has its mad word ;-)
    Dash Earthboy: sure
    --BELL--
Dash Earthboy: i guess i should really call my head hair a "mane" since I'm a Leo :)
Dash Earthboy: but what to call the beard then?
Dash Earthboy: duh... a beard of course!
    Qt Core: :)
Dash Earthboy: boy is my face red
Dash Earthboy: and it ain't sunburn either
Dash Earthboy: are you holding the record today?
    Qt Core: no
Dash Earthboy: hmmm...guess they just left it running then
Qt Core: yes, usually it stop itself when the last guardian leaves
Qt Core: only if needed/requested the goc stop it
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Qt Core: now all the web will know about our hairy debate
Dash Earthboy: what was the topic i missed?
Qt Core: don't know, i was here quite late, but at least for some time it was Blue's thing
    tomorrow
    Dash Earthboy: ah yes!
Dash Earthboy: well, this morning I arrived half way though and it was only Susan and Frenchie here
Dash Earthboy: and there was no topic
    Dash Earthboy: which is okay
Dash Earthboy: sometimes it's like that in jazz
    Dash Earthboy: :)
Qt Core: just waiting for music to happen
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: and then Korel came and we talked about social issues
Dash Earthboy: but Frenchie was gone by then
Dash Earthboy: she knows a lot about important social issues, especially women's issues, in the Middle East
Qt Core: i just heard about today Gay Pride in Rome, they say 1 million people ... and a free exhibition by :Lady Gaga
    Dash Earthboy: wowo
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: NYC had one a few weeks ago I think
Qt Core: if you go ask to police they will say no more than 10,000 ;-)
Dash Earthboy: oh and maybe here in Atlanta a short time ago too
Dash Earthboy: well, the police may be more accurate then?
Qt Core: more like to be ordered by government to downplay it
    Dash Earthboy: oh
Dash Earthboy: still stigma crap huh?
Dash Earthboy: when I was 18 I played in a gay bar with my sister and found out one of my fav middle school teachers was gay

    Vatican City

Qt Core: what you think... parliament here is less than 5km from vatican city ;-)
Dash Earthboy: a short time later I found out several of my close friends were gay
Dash Earthboy: then that my sister was bi
    Dash Earthboy: so...
Dash Earthboy: oh yah, the old Vatican City
Dash Earthboy: home of Paul's church
    Qt Core: Peter's too
    Dash Earthboy: naw
Dash Earthboy: Paul did that move just for politics
Dash Earthboy: Peter's remains around Jerusalem
Dash Earthboy: not much left of it tho
Qt Core: speaking about church and age, the last change of archbishop and pope were two of the first, think that made me feel "old"
    Dash Earthboy: awww
Dash Earthboy: not a great feeling for sure
Dash Earthboy: guess my working with senior citizens helps keep me feeling "young"
    Dash Earthboy: by comparison :)

    Ding dong door bells

Dash Earthboy: i heard your doorbell
Qt Core: more than bad was surprising hearing at mass when there is a prayer in favor of the bishop of the dioces (spelling ?) and the pope hearing two "stranger" names (i have no mic)
Dash Earthboy: wonder what that bell was then?
    Qt Core: yours ? :-)
    Dash Earthboy: not the time
Dash Earthboy: no i don't have a door bell
    Dash Earthboy: wind chimes yes
Dash Earthboy: but this was an electric bell sound
Dash Earthboy: rapid ding dong type
    Qt Core: sl glitch then
Dash Earthboy: the time bell here is more just a ding
Dash Earthboy: could be a glitch

    Tech talk

Dash Earthboy: this system crashed on me in this sim earlier
Dash Earthboy: that's why i ended up rezzing here like I did
Dash Earthboy: brought my whole system to a halt after Korel & I had struggled with lags and other glitches for over an hour
Dash Earthboy: it's a little cooler here today and we even had a sun shower earlier
Qt Core: i've always been quite lucky with whatever chatroom/im./sl itself i connect to
Dash Earthboy: but the weather service didn't lift the Code Orange alert early anyways
Dash Earthboy: well that's good Qt
Qt Core: a lot of water here all past week, with some heavy thundering too sometimes
Dash Earthboy: my equipment probably has much to do with my performance problems
Dash Earthboy: i wish i hadn't let the Circuit City guy talk me out of what I wanted when I bought this laptop
Dash Earthboy: he had to lie to really secure the con tho
Qt Core: form a certain point of view i'm a little sorry for him too
Dash Earthboy: i was gonna get an AMD64 w/Win64 Vista on it
Dash Earthboy: and the graphics chip SL prefers
Dash Earthboy: the guy talked me into this Intel-based HP model with only slightly faster CPUs and less memory for more money
Dash Earthboy: and more trouble as I had to drive 50 miles to even get it then
Dash Earthboy: the intel doesn't have the virtualization features i need in the hardware
Dash Earthboy: less memory hurts the whole virtualization process too
Dash Earthboy: and then SL hates the graphics
\Dash Earthboy: plus the guy promised Win 64 and it was only Win 32 on this machine
Qt Core: sorry but i agree with your doubts about a bad choice
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: he seemed so knowledgeable and sincere
Dash Earthboy: and he gave his word as "gold"
Dash Earthboy: typical of those i'm surrounded by here
Dash Earthboy: it's rooted in the culture...as my ex told me "everybody says what they think they need to to get what they want"
Dash Earthboy: but just don't try lying to her...that's the flipside...she's a control freak
Qt Core: well, sadly nowadays that seem to apply to most of our civilization (civilization ?)
    Dash Earthboy: i hear ya
Dash Earthboy: but i'm looking for where it's not so prevalent as here
Dash Earthboy: i've been in places where it wasn't acceptable, let alone "normal"
Qt Core: places where you haven't to constatly watch your back ? it would be nice
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: at least to have some friends who'll help watch it :)
Dash Earthboy: i haven't got that even in my own family

    A Prairie Home Companion

Dash Earthboy: it's getting close to A Prairie Home Companion showtime
Dash Earthboy: ever get it on your radio over there?
Qt Core: din't even know what it is
Dash Earthboy: oh? they even made a movie about it :)
Qt Core: and probably not aired around here ;-)
Dash Earthboy: it was a fairly popular movie...about 10 years ago I think
Dash Earthboy: I've listened to it since the late 70s
Dash Earthboy: used to get with friends in Chicago each Saturday night and have aparty during it
Dash Earthboy: good music and some jokes & skits...old fashioned radio show like Grand Ol Opry but not just country music
Qt Core: from the title i thought it was something about agriculture... wikipedia seem to disagree ;-)
    Dash Earthboy: heheh
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: Garrison Keelor is the host
Qt Core: but still not aired here in Italy ;-)
Dash Earthboy: he claims he'll retire soon and pass the reins to a young girl
Dash Earthboy: dang...sorry you miss it that way
Dash Earthboy: I used to listen over short wave radio a lot to keep up with other parts of the world
Dash Earthboy: i have a boombox that gets SW1 and SW2
Dash Earthboy: one of the miracles in my life happened in 1980
Dash Earthboy: close to Knoxville TN i listened to an FM station from Denver Co
Dash Earthboy: FM has a hard time going more than 100 miles let alone over 1000
Qt Core: maybe some good atmosphere reflection
    Dash Earthboy: sure
Dash Earthboy: must be close to midnight there?
    Qt Core: exactly midnight

    Saturday Night Live

Dash Earthboy: guess you don't get Saturday Night Live either huh?
    Dash Earthboy: the TV show?
Qt Core: no, and to add to it since a couple year some local tv try to have its own SNL, i don't even have the courage to try it (i read the name of the US one and surely they can't be up to them)
    Dash Earthboy: i hear ya
Dash Earthboy: i really like some of the comedians who've gone on from early SNL to make good movies
Dash Earthboy: and I really miss John Belushi
Dash Earthboy: I watch Jim in almost all his TV shows tho
Qt Core: he is way more famous for his music here than for his acting
    Dash Earthboy: John?
    Dash Earthboy: Blues Bros?
    Qt Core: yes,
    Dash Earthboy: heheh
Dash Earthboy: when i talked about Dan Akroyd earlier today here, some younger folks had no idea
    Dash Earthboy: Bill Murray
    Dash Earthboy: Chevy Chase
Qt Core: (to be honest i like more Akroyd style)
    Dash Earthboy: more than John's?
Qt Core: yes, serious quiet madness
    Dash Earthboy: ah!
Dash Earthboy: so like Chevy Chase too?
Qt Core: i've rarely seen him, not sure
Dash Earthboy: Chevy's in a comedy here on TV called "Community"
Dash Earthboy: about a community college
Dash Earthboy: how about Bill Murray?...Groundhog Day?
    Dash Earthboy: Scrooge?
    Qt Core: Ghostbusters
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: he gets all the romantic parts huh?
Qt Core: and mess it up ;-)
Dash Earthboy: part of his charm :)
Dash Earthboy: validation of "nobody's perfect" :)

    Gary Lewis & the Playboys

Qt Core: speaking about comedy, just a couple days ago i was thinking i should watch again some movie from one of the best from US, Jerry Lewis... even older
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: personally, I'll take Mickey over Jerry
Dash Earthboy: Rooney, not Mouse :)
Dash Earthboy: Did you like how Jerry's son played drums?
Qt Core: maybe better as an actor, but less funny
Dash Earthboy: "Who wants to buyyy this diamond ring?"
Qt Core: never knew there was one of Jerry's son playing druns
Qt Core: don't even know how many sons he have ;-)
Dash Earthboy: trying to remember his first name
Dash Earthboy: After "Diamond Ring" he only had like one more top 40
Dash Earthboy: but yah, he appeared on a show Jerry hosted
Dash Earthboy: now I got it: Gary Lewis & the Playboys
Qt Core: i was wandering about how many "son of..." we are starting to have in the show-biz, once it was not so glamorius so sons just went doing something else, especially as they parents were'n t getting so much money... i fear for the level of talent we are getting out of them
    Dash Earthboy: hmmm
Dash Earthboy: well Gary was in the 60s
Dash Earthboy: Carole King/Gerry Goffin's daughter Louise in the 70s
Dash Earthboy: Liza Minelli before that
Dash Earthboy: She's Judy Garland's daughter
Qt Core: yes, someone may get talent via DNA but not everyone
    Dash Earthboy: Julian Lennon
    Dash Earthboy: Jim Croce's son
    Dash Earthboy: bob dylan's son
Dash Earthboy: guess i'm more familiar with the lineage
    Qt Core: ;-)
Dash Earthboy: my own son hasn't touched a drum or guitar in long time...he's a mechanical engineer now, using the CAD I started teaching him at age 8
Qt Core: did he plan his sand castles on it ?
Dash Earthboy: started him helping me build furniture at 3, reengineer a metal swing/slide set at 5 and build a trailer with lights at 6
    Dash Earthboy: heheh
Dash Earthboy: his company makes ball bearings and similar round objects
Dash Earthboy: he's unhappy because he wants to go automotive engineering
Qt Core: may ask to Fiat, it is coming quite fast and hard on US ;-)
Dash Earthboy: i had him design his Pinebox Derby car for Tiger Scouts when he was 5 using Windows Paint
Dash Earthboy: he learned how to use its measuring features that way
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: i still remember the Fiat convertible my sister got for her 16th birthday
Dash Earthboy: i got a 4-yr old cargo van with orders to carry her around in it
    Dash Earthboy: like a chauffer
Dash Earthboy: and she got a brand new Fiat convertible
Dash Earthboy: not that my mother had anything against men....
Dash Earthboy: just she was kindda misanthropic
Dash Earthboy: oh and I had to pay for my van
Qt Core: you had to work, she had to find a nice husband, that car was a trap
    Dash Earthboy: yep
Dash Earthboy: the drugs she sold wasn't a good enough ticket for her husbands
    --BELL--
    Qt Core: !
    Dash Earthboy: yah
    Dash Earthboy: with mom's protection
Dash Earthboy: mom portrayed herself as Mother Mary, contributing 25% of our gross (when she forced me to work at age 14) to church, and that she was a victim of "bad men"
    Dash Earthboy: hyper-religious
Dash Earthboy: and her daughters could smoke, drink and swear and she'd deny it all
Dash Earthboy: but me? never good enough "just like your father" who she drove away from us when I was 14
Dash Earthboy: between my upbringing and my social work, people who put women on pedastals as being better than men make my stomach turn
Qt Core: i hope you used that van to drive far away as soon you could
Dash Earthboy: actually very similar to that
Dash Earthboy: two weeks after graduating high school I was over 1000 miles away in Utah at age 17
Dash Earthboy: celebrated my 18th birthday in my own off-campus apartment
Dash Earthboy: worked three paying jobs to pay out-of-state tuition and all my own expenses and still helped my mother and did social work in Utah
Dash Earthboy: i spread myself thin most of my life
Dash Earthboy: in addition to those jobs, i was a Meals On Wheels companion volunteer, peer counselor and did a ministry at the state juvenile prison
Qt Core: were you by then used to being overworked by your mother request ?
    Dash Earthboy: yes
    Dash Earthboy: always
Dash Earthboy: she had groomed me for that abuse from a very tender age
Dash Earthboy: and I had fought some of it since I was 6

    The wearing of glasses

Dash Earthboy: when she tried to force me to wear bifocals in the first grade
Dash Earthboy: the same eye doctor blinded my sisters with his practice of over-corrective lenses
Dash Earthboy: i "lost" about 6 pr of glasses in first and second grade because they were giving me headaches
Dash Earthboy: my mother tried to get the school to force me to wear them at all times
Qt Core: as i've sported glasses myself since i was 6 or seven all i can say is... !!
    Dash Earthboy: i saved myself
Dash Earthboy: and i've saved my son
    --BELL--
Dash Earthboy: he and I are the only ones on either side of his birth families who can drive without glasses
Dash Earthboy: the only ones out of about 50 close relatives
Dash Earthboy: including his cousin whose father doesn't need glasses
Dash Earthboy: but the cousin does, thanks to my older sister
Qt Core: you know you are widening the crisis of the glass industries, right ? :-)
Dash Earthboy: hopefully combatting bad medicine
    Dash Earthboy: :)
Qt Core: for several years my (public) eye- doctor it wasn't wise to up my lenses just for the small gain i could have,... he conceded a few months ago as i told him i was going to have my glasses remade even with the old prescription
    Qt Core: *told me
Dash Earthboy: Guy Noire: Private Eye
    Dash Earthboy: on APHC
Qt Core: then when i went with the new glasses with my other eye-doctor (i have more than one issue with them) she told me my new glasses were good, and i can really say i feel good with them
Qt Core: being in front of a monitor for many ours a day my sight maybe the only aspect of my health i really follow
    Dash Earthboy: heheh
    Dash Earthboy: i understand
Qt Core: out of curiosity, how is common there laser surgery to correct eyesight and related issues ? (i'm asking as you seem to have a lot of relatives with eyesight issues)
Dash Earthboy: my older sis had laer surgery almost 10 years ago
Dash Earthboy: helped for less than two years after initial problems
Dash Earthboy: now she's bad as ever
Dash Earthboy: it's promoted pretty heavy over here
Dash Earthboy: the premise of how the laser is used bums me out
Dash Earthboy: it they could re-sculpt the focal parts, i'd be more for it
Dash Earthboy: i certainly think it's okay for cataracts
Dash Earthboy: when the eyes are deteriorating from masses
Dash Earthboy: i don't mind you chatting through the bells :)
Qt Core: i have at least 5 people i know having their eyesight laser corrected (age between 19 and 35) and all af them are very happy with it, getting even 11/10 of eyesight now
Dash Earthboy: or we could switch to IM if you'd prefer
Dash Earthboy: sounds like they're getting good work done on them
Qt Core: np, as you were the one writing more personal things it's your choice, even to ask the goc to remove something if you wish
Dash Earthboy: the experience of those I know, even outside the family, is not so good
Qt Core: the only bad experience i've seen... is on my mother with her double cataract, not the laser therapy itself but some follow up cleaning ruined her sight a lot
Dash Earthboy: typically I've heard "it's a whole new world!!!" for 1-2 years and then phhhttt
Dash Earthboy: but again, for cataracts and similar, I say "why not do it?"
Dash Earthboy: for my macular degeneration, it won't help
Dash Earthboy: and that, like my hair loss, is from stress
Dash Earthboy: i have practiced every Zen thing I can find to keep the stress from damaging me
Dash Earthboy: yoga and aerobic exercises
    Dash Earthboy: meditation
Dash Earthboy: writing and music and art
Qt Core: and sl too ;-)
Dash Earthboy: but somethings just can't be avoided i guess
Dash Earthboy: yes SL has helped some too
Dash Earthboy: especially like here at PaB
Dash Earthboy: but I've yet to find counselors in at the counseling sites i've visited on SL
Dash Earthboy: wonder what Bruce is up to?
Dash Earthboy: he just came inworld
Dash Earthboy: maybe checking the log?
Qt Core: bired to rest ?
    Qt Core: bired
    Qt Core: bored
    Qt Core: got it ;-)
    Dash Earthboy: heheh

    More technotalk

Dash Earthboy: this time last weekend i had been without internet for 5 hrs
Dash Earthboy: that meant no phone, no TV, no movies, no SL...
Qt Core: that would mean only no internet and no land phone, but i would start to scream after much less ;-) even when i don't use it i love the idea of having all the web one click away
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Dash Earthboy: it hurt some bank business i had to attend to at particular times
Dash Earthboy: and of course, no email nor Facebook
Qt Core: (i want a wifi and 4G antenna in my skull... and a good firewall between that and my brain ;-)
    Dash Earthboy: heheh
Dash Earthboy: that could help you stay outta trouble huh?
Dash Earthboy: i'm just wired here at the house
Dash Earthboy: my son has 3G wifi at his apartment
Dash Earthboy: i can't imagine speeds near 3000K like that
Dash Earthboy: i'm using 600kps right now
    Dash Earthboy: paying for 768kps
Dash Earthboy: but AT&T says "NO...anything from 256kps up to 768kps"
Dash Earthboy: last time I had this service level (up to 768ksp) they provided me 700+ normally
Dash Earthboy: but this time they've lost interest in customer satisfaction
Qt Core: i have quite a pricey subscription but both the speed and the service are quite good, had tech coming out on saturday and sunday when needed, quite a feat around here
    Dash Earthboy: sounds wonderful
Dash Earthboy: imagine me trying to download whole linux distros and virtual machines
Qt Core: but it seems that don't want more of my money, i've asked infos for an upgrade six months ago and no answer
    Dash Earthboy: wow
Qt Core: well, i was doubting my need for that and now i will not call them again
Qt Core: after all what you would use for a 100Mb connection ? ;-)
Dash Earthboy: maybe some sites I could keep up all the time
Qt Core: keeping a local copy of google after buying some tons of hard disks ;-)
    Dash Earthboy: wow
Dash Earthboy: my programming tact from the beginning has been to not reinvent the wheel
Qt Core: to be honest i don't need such speed (yet), it is/was more for the nerd/geek points
Dash Earthboy: about 7 years ago a friend wanted to set up a server in here in my care
Dash Earthboy: but he made no promises on what content and ads would be
Dash Earthboy: so i didn't get into that situation
Dash Earthboy: you use Linux, right?
Qt Core: not now but yes
Dash Earthboy: yah, i'm in it now...everything around me...especially jobs, is Microsoft
Dash Earthboy: but I think Linus fulfilled the original Unix intent
Qt Core: at the office i'm usually on windows, but connected to linux servers for most of the time
    Dash Earthboy: heheh
Dash Earthboy: do your bosses know that?
Qt Core: i hope so, we develop on/for linuc
Dash Earthboy: most management here things the world is made of Windows
Dash Earthboy: develop for linux from Windows domain? hmmmm
Qt Core: weall love (weell, i love, others just survive) Vi ;-)
Qt Core: almost no development happen locally on windows
    Dash Earthboy: i hear ya
    --BELL--
Dash Earthboy: sadly most of my paying work here in this area for over 15 years has been on Windows only
Qt Core: (i even substitute notepad with Vim on all the pc i have to work on)
    Dash Earthboy: cool
Dash Earthboy: i used Vi alot while consulting for AT&T on the programming I did on their 3B2s
Dash Earthboy: but when I got my own Unix, 386ix, I got away from it
Dash Earthboy: Xerox promoted another editor/IDE
Dash Earthboy: that Unix was eventually bought by/incorporated into Solaris
Dash Earthboy: so I've migrated to NetBeans and gedit for most of that now
    Dash Earthboy: and herrre's Brucie!
    Qt Core: Hi Bruce
Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Qt and Dash.
Bruce Mowbray: Unusual hour to be at the pavilion, no?
Dash Earthboy: just having a chat while I listen to A Prairie Home Companion
    Bruce Mowbray: Oh cool.
Dash Earthboy: Qt doesn't get it there
Qt Core: and you are quite early for the 7pm session ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: I was getting rid of all of my possible lag-causing stuff (fish, facelight, etc.) and thought I'd come over for a look-see.
    Dash Earthboy: ah yes
Qt Core: i just like to hear the birds
    Dash Earthboy: poor Blub
Dash Earthboy: i'm listening to the news from Lake Wobegone
Bruce Mowbray: LOVE that show. Well, I'm going to be moving on. . . .
Qt Core: usually hair takes a lot of prim and rendering cost
    Qt Core: *take
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Qt Core: (i could lose some 98% of my rendering cost becoming bald)
Dash Earthboy: getting your strength back some Bruce?
Bruce Mowbray: The energy seems to be conming back a bit more every day, but I need to be careful with it -- I have a tendencecy to want to do more than I actually can do.
Dash Earthboy: Or, Qt, you could go like Rhi?
Bruce Mowbray: My best to Guy Noir and the Buttermilk Bisquit crew.
Bruce Mowbray: You guys have a good night.
Dash Earthboy: yah Bruce y'gotta keep a steady pace on that
    Dash Earthboy: you too Bruce
    Bruce Mowbray: bye for now.
    Qt Core: bye Bruce
    Dash Earthboy: bye
Dash Earthboy: well this is probably good time for working on rez issues and such
Dash Earthboy: i haven't really spent so much time on SL past few weeks as I have yesterday and today alone
Qt Core: sometimes happen, to me especially just after deciding to soend less time in it
Dash Earthboy: i'll be getting off soon to free up bandwidth for Hulu watching
Dash Earthboy: that's free movies & tv here in US
Dash Earthboy: and they have paid plans too
Dash Earthboy: i put movie rez on lowest speed and get halfway decent results
Qt Core: there is no cable tv in italy, only in past 15 years satellite paid channels and we just switched all air tv to digital, a lot of useless new channel and some paid too
Dash Earthboy: at individual TV network sites, it's no choice below 360 kps
Dash Earthboy: i hear ya Qt
Qt Core: main tv channels are free, just with a lot of ad
Dash Earthboy: for short time here I had cheapest cable within 100 miles and got about 30 channels for $13/mo
Dash Earthboy: i got to watch a Chicago station I liked and some other stuff like that
Dash Earthboy: but no MTV or VH1 or other premium channels
Dash Earthboy: Hulu is putting more and more movie and TV in their premium paid plans only
    --BELL--
Dash Earthboy: i do miss being able to do paid work on any kind of programming: Win or Lin
Qt Core: in my first years of programming i didn't undersand why they paid me fo having so much fun
Dash Earthboy: Starting to use Lazarus and FreePascal to supplement my Delphi skills
Dash Earthboy: i hear ya Qt
Dash Earthboy: to me, programming is another form of creative writing
Dash Earthboy: i like to write
Qt Core: i don't write but i agree
Dash Earthboy: programming lets my writing "come to life"
Dash Earthboy: more directly than multi-media
Dash Earthboy: i think I'm gonna take the last 10 minutes of APHC to wash dishes while listening and fixing supper
Dash Earthboy: really nice to have our chat here tonight
Dash Earthboy: do you plan to stay up much longer?
Qt Core: same here bar the supper ;-)
    Dash Earthboy: yah
Qt Core: just a few minutes
    Dash Earthboy: cool
Dash Earthboy: hope you sleep well
    Qt Core: me too ;-)
    Qt Core: enjoy your supper
Dash Earthboy: catch ya later...or - as they say here in the South -- ciao
    Qt Core: ;-) ciao
