The Guardian for this meeting was Storm Nordwind. The comments are by Storm Nordwind.

    Travelling in the heat .

    Dash Earthboy: hey Storm
    Storm Nordwind: Greetings Dash
Dash Earthboy: small crowd so far huh?
Storm Nordwind: I'll check my deodorant :)
    Dash Earthboy: more likely me
Dash Earthboy: spent the night in my car driver seat (trying to sleep upright) in horrible heat that had me drenched in sweat through the whole night
    Storm Nordwind: Good morning Susan
Dash Earthboy: that was in a hospital parking lot south of Louisville
    Dash Earthboy: hey susan
    iwandertoo Resident: hi storm, dash
Dash Earthboy: how's the move progressing?
iwandertoo Resident: house is on the market...weird to see it listed
Dash Earthboy: i know that feeling :(
iwandertoo Resident: showing this weekend...enjoying a local hotel/motel stay
    Dash Earthboy: sounds nice :)
Storm Nordwind: Rare to have those two words in the same sentence: enjoying and motel
Dash Earthboy: how about hospital parking lot in horrible heat as an alternative?
iwandertoo Resident: making the best of it
Dash Earthboy: the drive up from Nashville yesterday was all in 100F heat too
Storm Nordwind: These temperatures are all new to me. As is so much here.
Dash Earthboy: i started getting sunburned while driving on Monday on way to Birmingham despite cloud cover
Storm Nordwind: I get most sunburn in winter now.
    Dash Earthboy: :)
Storm Nordwind: My avatar does not seem to get a tan though in Second Life
Dash Earthboy: well, hopefully people who wonder about my situation will have a little more current news now
    Storm Nordwind nods

    Library.

Dash Earthboy: i'm in a library and was able to plug in my laptop after the battery died
Dash Earthboy: week battery to start with and this heat kills 'em even faster
Storm Nordwind: Libraries can be good places. When I was young they were often stuffy. I think you can even get coffee in some libraries now.
Storm Nordwind: Been here two years though, and still haven't joined the local libraries! Guess I get most of my info on the net.
Dash Earthboy: when I tried Nashville in 2009, joining the libary was first thing I did after getting local address to use
Dash Earthboy: had to have my host vouch for me
Dash Earthboy: i was her live-in healthcare aide
    --BELL--
Storm Nordwind remembers his first public library experiences in 1960, when the check-out system used microfilm!
Dash Earthboy: after Birmingham failed miserably on me, I tried Nashville again because just before leaving Georgia Monday morning I had recieved email invite from one of my writer's group members there in Nashville
Dash Earthboy: that helped me choose to turn north rather than south to New Orleans or continuing straight west into Korel's area
    Storm Nordwind: Korel's area is?
Dash Earthboy: yes, Storm I also remember microfilm and microfiche
    Dash Earthboy: Korel in Oklahoma
Storm Nordwind: Ah... thank you. My memory is so bad!
Storm Nordwind: Your memory is the second thing that goes as you get older. :)
Dash Earthboy: my memory is hurting from the heat right now, but cooling off in the library and getting back here is helping :)
    Storm Nordwind smiles

    Travelling in the heat.

Dash Earthboy: traveling the way I am is much more difficult than a simple walkabout
Dash Earthboy: i have to find shade for the parked car or else keepi it moving
Dash Earthboy: in 80F weather, interior (no a/c) is normally around 120
Storm Nordwind: And you are not in naturally forested country I suspect for shade
Dash Earthboy: and in 90F weather it hits 130
Dash Earthboy: which is not good for music instruments nor computer
Dash Earthboy: amazing how in this area the drought and development have got rid of so many big trees
    Storm Nordwind: yes
Dash Earthboy: even in rest areas the little things are only 20 ft tall
    Dash Earthboy: scrawny
    Dash Earthboy: no shade
Dash Earthboy: and they just haven't really planted them with shade in mind
Storm Nordwind: I'm surprised at the diversity of weather in the US this year. There are still patches of snow on the mountains here - I'm told that's very rare for it being nearly August.
Dash Earthboy: wish i was there
Dash Earthboy: i'm kinda on my way toward northwest
Storm Nordwind: Much cooler up there I suspect. Still very hot where I am.

    Cartwheels and other animations.

    Storm Nordwind: Welcome back Susan!
    iwandertoo Resident: ty, Storm
Storm Nordwind is reminded to incorporate a wider range of available poses and animations in our pavilion cushions :)
    iwandertoo Resident: :)
iwandertoo Resident: one to look at the stars
Storm Nordwind: What a great idea - thank you for that!
    iwandertoo Resident: :)
    --BELL--
Storm Nordwind: Making animations is something I've not done in SL, until only recently when I've done several. Then I thought how restricted these are. And I thought I'd do something about it... but only after the next Theater performances!
    iwandertoo Resident: :)
iwandertoo Resident: i had a friend here who walked about cartwheeling
    Storm Nordwind: haha!
iwandertoo Resident: brought a huge smile to my face...life is like this
    Storm Nordwind: yes!
Storm Nordwind: We all need lighter moments. :)
iwandertoo Resident: it matched her sense of life
Storm Nordwind: Mr. Nordwind here has had the same look and animations for 5 years. Matches his laziness!
iwandertoo Resident: i think she is the only person (so far) that in a physical sense really explores SL. I see it now in the theatre the PaB folks are putting together...but she did it as part of who she is - not a performance
    iwandertoo Resident: laziness?
Storm Nordwind: Yes - though exploring in the theater can help bring the discovery of who people are. It is a rare soul who has no barriers between who thet are and what they express.
iwandertoo Resident: yes...true. they are something
Storm Nordwind: For example, I saw in the continuing Art as Being project a development of expression since its inception. People gain confidence. They give themselves permission to take risks in this supportive environment
iwandertoo Resident: yes, very much so. what i love about PaB...freedom
iwandertoo Resident: there are thoughts i hear here that i'm not certain i would bump into in RL. the otherside of this...just exposure with active mindedness.
Storm Nordwind: Yes! There are several things going on I suspect. For one thing, perhaps like attracts like. And people take courage to express what they would not elsewhere.

    Hearing repeats.

Dash Earthboy: interesting...i'm hearing many repeats here from thoughts presented to me in RL
Dash Earthboy: much of the Zen and Eastern philosophy is what I heard in the 70s
Dash Earthboy: only the faces have changed :)
Storm Nordwind: Perhaps you are fortunate Dash! For some I'm sure it is a refreshing interlude from a rather humdrum RL environment.
    Dash Earthboy: no doubt :)
Dash Earthboy: as for freedom to express, online groups, like MSN groups provided that in the 90s
iwandertoo Resident: i think the difference here is - i can ask, "why so", "how did you arrive at this", etc. and no one is insulted...they may respond with a full explanation or simply, "I don't know exactly - working through it". It's the process - seeing / hearing this process that fosters
Storm Nordwind: A great summary - yes!
iwandertoo Resident: a constant attunement to asking questions of oneself and others
Dash Earthboy: ummm, Susan you seem to have missed sessions where people were insulted
Storm Nordwind: The difference is with the freedom to express is that so many of the other 70s groups or 90s MSN forums had people who were mostly in output mode. They knew what they wanted to think and were less open and supportive than I find here.
Dash Earthboy: how fortunate for you, susan
    --BELL--
    Dash Earthboy: can't agree Storm
Dash Earthboy: i found the same kind of meditative, supportive, outspoken, outrageous, etc participants in MSN and the RL Eastern philosophy groups in the 70s
iwandertoo Resident: I think i have, Dash. Only, given a step back I think there is no ill will...just poorly stated words. I have not seen in the regulars any intent to do harm.
Dash Earthboy: good hedge there Storm: "in the regulars" :)
    Dash Earthboy: hey mila
    iwandertoo Resident: waves
    Storm Nordwind: Hi Mila :)
    milakel Resident: hi :)
    milakel Resident: stormy :)
milakel Resident: right, 7 am - storm is here :)
    Storm Nordwind smiles and nods
Storm Nordwind: It's my job :)
iwandertoo Resident: (waves quietly...best to everyone)
milakel Resident: what? to come to pab? :)
    Storm Nordwind: Bye Susan!
    milakel Resident: susie :)
    Dash Earthboy: bye susan

    A wannabe social site.

milakel Resident: btw, is anyone on google+?
Dash Earthboy: mila you can check the log about my current status...visiting now from library in Louisville, KY to escape heat for awhile
    Dash Earthboy: google+ rejected me
    milakel Resident: rejected? :)
    Dash Earthboy: yes
Storm Nordwind: Remind me what google+ is
    milakel Resident: how?
milakel Resident: storm, a sort of facebook killer from google :)
    Dash Earthboy: limited offering, mila
    milakel Resident: ah
Storm Nordwind: It can't kill what I've eschewed! :)
    milakel Resident: :)
milakel Resident: well, i joined, looked around and forgot about it
milakel Resident: it seems to me like a new google wave
Storm Nordwind: What is it? Son of orkut?
milakel Resident: google can't get the social part right :)
milakel Resident: um... it's the previous "big social change" attempt from google
Storm Nordwind: + makes it seem like a poorly thought out non-integrated add-on!
milakel Resident: they have new prefixes now +mila :)
milakel Resident: as in @mila of twitter :)
    Storm Nordwind sighs
milakel Resident: i guess they want to be both at once - twitter and facebook :)
Storm Nordwind: Google would perhaps learn from SL, that successful social ventures grow from the ground up, and are not imposed top-down.
    milakel Resident: i guess not
Dash Earthboy: *wishes he could find some helpful people on his quest for new community
milakel Resident: at least this time they didn't advertise google+ as "the next big thing that will change your life"
milakel Resident: that bit they learned
milakel Resident: we're here, dash :)
Storm Nordwind: Google are unashamed data-whores. That's their reason-to-be. Scarcely an attractive prospect for people I suspect!
    milakel Resident: heh
milakel Resident: they also push for the single identity on the net liek facebook
Dash Earthboy: mila, I'm in a Louisville, KY library prepping to head toward St. Louis next
milakel Resident: no nicknames, no multiple profiles
Dash Earthboy: have about exhausted my welcome here at the library
    milakel Resident: ky... hmm :)
Dash Earthboy: so i've been multitasking like crazy during this session
Dash Earthboy: and hoping somebody knows somebody in the direction I'm going :)
milakel Resident: it's ok dash, glad to have you here, even partly :)
milakel Resident: post a message to the group
    --BELL--

    Time to go.

Dash Earthboy: the sun has come around the only shade I could find and is now baking my music instruments so I'll have to get the car moving again and head on down the road...haven't found a friend in Louisville...the 29 life secrets guy not withstanding
Storm Nordwind: Travel well Dash. Go rescue your instruments. :)
    Dash Earthboy: will do....bye y'all
    Storm Nordwind waves
milakel Resident: finding a friend isn't easy
milakel Resident: and you dont' really find one
milakel Resident: you... happen to make them, i guess
Storm Nordwind: Yes. They happen if and when they happen.
    milakel Resident: :)
Storm Nordwind: Many acquaintances can yield not a single true friend. But that's good :)
milakel Resident: oh in yoru case, you redefine your meaning of a friend :)
Storm Nordwind: I do? How so? :)
milakel Resident: i refer to your 40+ realization
    Storm Nordwind: Ah!
    milakel Resident: ;)
Storm Nordwind: Seems a long time ago!
    milakel Resident: hehe
milakel Resident: sting redefined sex in his 40s :)
Storm Nordwind: I'm not sure that isn't too much information! ;)
milakel Resident: said something like it is so much better after 40
Storm Nordwind: Everything's better after the kids have left home! ;)
    milakel Resident: hehe
    milakel Resident: oh well
    milakel Resident: guess i'll go
milakel Resident: you stay here and enjoy the fishes
Storm Nordwind: Take care. Good to see you :)
    milakel Resident: :)
