Eliza Madrigal: Am more interested to hear what you've been up to!
Bleu Oleander: always a mix of stuff!
Bleu Oleander: we had a wonderful artist studio visit yesterday
Bleu Oleander: the artist was at a crossroads
Bleu Oleander: which I think is a really interesting time for an artist
Bleu Oleander: she's been successful for a while
Bleu Oleander: so felt anxiety about changing her style
Bleu Oleander: and where to go with it
    Bleu Oleander: i've been there!
Eliza Madrigal: applicable in all of life
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Eliza Madrigal: what is her way of being with that?
    Bleu Oleander: change is hard

    --BELL--
Bleu Oleander: well, she's playing with a few ideas
Bleu Oleander: reading a lot of art criticism, which is interesting to me
    Eliza Madrigal: say more?
Bleu Oleander: I generally don't read that much art criticism
Bleu Oleander: I find it overworked most of the time
Bleu Oleander: she also teaches art
Eliza Madrigal: I would guess it becomes more interesting once one has a sense of their own taste first... but before that possibly full of traps
Bleu Oleander: so maybe more relevant to her
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: on another subject ...
Eliza Madrigal: when one has had a measure of success it seems harder to allow for change...

Bleu Oleander: came across this interesting online series
    Bleu Oleander: http://live.soundstrue.com/compassio...?component=bab

    Eliza Madrigal: click
    Bleu Oleander: monday nights
    Bleu Oleander: some great speakers
Bleu Oleander: can listen live or later
Bleu Oleander: we met Dan Siegel on one of our recent trips
    Eliza Madrigal: thank you
Eliza Madrigal: his is one of the only names I recognize there
Bleu Oleander: Richie Davidson is very interesting too
Bleu Oleander: have read his books
Bleu Oleander: intersection between neuroscience and meditation
Eliza Madrigal: it seems the one thing no one wants to give up about religion :)
Eliza Madrigal: I remember when meditation was a spooky idea... if brought up in a classroom, etc
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: "the emotional Life of your Brain" is his recent book
    Bleu Oleander: very good
Eliza Madrigal: meditation changes over time, with an individual, like art expression does
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Eliza Madrigal: one thing I've come to notice... and there can be moments of panic and plateau
Eliza Madrigal: did you read that one? emotional life?
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: it's about emotional styles
    Bleu Oleander: very interesting
Eliza Madrigal: emotion is so mysterious
Bleu Oleander: we have a salon coming up this week on emotions
    Eliza Madrigal: oh?
Bleu Oleander: really looking forward to it
Eliza Madrigal: I've been surprised to find that when I change practices, like, I've been chanting lately, that emotions come up strangely - suggests to me that they are mostly physioogical
Eliza Madrigal: and have a friend that, whenever he feels off, says "endorphins endorphins endorphins"
Bleu Oleander: physical changes in bodily states, yes
Bleu Oleander: oh heard a talk by an author about a new book
    Eliza Madrigal: heheh....
    Bleu Oleander: "Spark of Life"
    Eliza Madrigal: Nice title!
    Bleu Oleander: very interesting!
Bleu Oleander: I ordered it hehe
Eliza Madrigal: Finished the Jim Holt book...
    Bleu Oleander: oh great
Bleu Oleander: what did you think?
Eliza Madrigal: delighted by that one... giggled and cried and talked to it
    Bleu Oleander: me too!
Eliza Madrigal: appreciated so much the way he wove his own experiences and discoveries and settings into each encounter
Bleu Oleander: i've read it twice now
    Bleu Oleander: yes
    Eliza Madrigal: one 'critique'....
Eliza Madrigal: was that he used the "But is it..." line a few too many times, lol
    Bleu Oleander: haha yes
Eliza Madrigal: he draws you in and along and you are like 'yes yes..." then he says "But is it" dramtically
Eliza Madrigal: like a zen master "Is that so?"
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Eliza Madrigal: and he drinks a lot... hah
Bleu Oleander: ... when in Paris
    Bleu Oleander: haha
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Bleu Oleander: was at that cafe
    Eliza Madrigal: oohhh
    Bleu Oleander: so much history
    Bleu Oleander: right there
Eliza Madrigal: did you absorb the thoughts lingering out in the atmosphere?
    Bleu Oleander: very heavy atmosphere
    Bleu Oleander: full of thoughts
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

    --BELL--
Bleu Oleander: was thinking that we could mine Richard Davidson's book for possible themes ... he writes about emotional styles
    Bleu Oleander: resilience is one
    Bleu Oleander: interesting to discuss
Eliza Madrigal: resilience as an emotional state?
    Eliza Madrigal: interesting idea
Bleu Oleander: yes, how you recover from adversity
    Bleu Oleander: very emotional
    Bleu Oleander: another is outlook
    Bleu Oleander: positive emotions
Bleu Oleander: sensitivity to context is another
    Bleu Oleander: very interesting
Eliza Madrigal: *that* I am completely interested in
Bleu Oleander: social intuition ... another
Bleu Oleander: I think you would enjoy his book
Bleu Oleander: and he's the first speaking on monday for that online series
Eliza Madrigal: ah, will definitely watch that...
Eliza Madrigal: not sure I can add more on to the book pile right now
Eliza Madrigal: but one never knows ^^
    Bleu Oleander: know the feeling!

    Bleu Oleander: Regenises
    Bleu Oleander: synthetic biology
